Well we might as well start a thread for this, with so much activity lately we don't want it clogging up the other threads.

Tender drawings have been sent out to the sub trades for final pricing, and demolition/excavation is set to begin late April, pending final approval from Ivanhoe/Cambridge. Construction is expected to last just under two years, and top out is expected in summer of 2010, with substantial completion late 2010 early 2011.

Metrotower III

- 5 levels of U/G parking
- 25 levels of office space
- 425 000 sq ft of office space
- aiming for Leed certified Gold status
- 356' 4" from F2 lobby to top of mechanical penthouse
- 374' 11" from ground level loading bay to top of mechanical penthouse

Finally the elusive Metrotower III! Looks good, but a bit out of place. If it was going to be so close to I and II they should've maintained visual consistency. The style is good but the building appears beefy. It would be a lot nicer if it was a bit further away but I guess there was no room for that.I wonder what it'll look like from Brentwood or Burnaby Mountain.

You would see the flat side, which will look so similar to everything else... except for the needle

it would be nice if they could have put it in the ne corner by the bay to front onto kingsway

just to give more of a downtown feel to kingsway

I would prefer it higher than the other two--perhaps at least 35 floors--to add some drama!

^^If it is up to me, I would make it 200m, just tall enough to piss those downtown dwellers off, if you know what I mean. :D

is there some economy of scale that works for 100m buildings? I dunno what the height restrictions are for Burnaby, but it's strange how tower 3 is exactly the same height as the other two... one would think they'd at least try to distinguish it by an extra 5-10 stories?

^^ It reminds me of the Exchange district in Winnipeg, the three tallest buildings are almost the same height.

I agree - it begins to look a bit monotonous. I'm told that the challenge in Winnipeg is the limitation of building on a floodplain. I'm told that they can not build any higher in Winnipeg without considerable added expense and that it is not cost-effective. Anyone know of the validity of this statement?

I do like the Canwest building though - much more attractive than the Richardson and Trizec building.

they can not build any higher in Winnipeg ...

May be one of the reasons is its airport is too close to downtown?

What is with Office towers erecting outside the DT core?
BTW, what occupy those towers? What company?

Obviously construction has slowed to a crawl but apparently it isn't going to be capped and construction should continue.
