I must say this will be a great landmark for Warsaw. Lots of tourists will be suprized and shocked to see this kind of modern building in Warsaw, when they arrive to the city.

Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport has again become a big building site. PPL has commissioned a Polish and Spanish building consortium Ferrovial Agroman, Budimex and Estudio Lamela to construct a modern air passenger terminal with a capacity of 6.5 million travelers annually. Construction work will take 2 years. Together with the now operating Terminal 1, the overall capacity will be 10 million passengers.
The terminal extension will be accompanied by an infrastructure project near the airport. The project will provide a new road connection with the city centre, Puławska street and the A2 motorway. A train feeding line leading to the airport is also planned.

i'm not saying its the best if it was they wouldn't be building a new one, please show me this thread :) but for god sake look at Belgrade's airport its a pure socialism :)the one like in belgrade is now we closed in late 80ties, it looked almost the same but it was orange :)

is there any other airport in warsaw? because the one they mentioned i think was not named frederic chupain.

belgrade airport is also being expanded but they will not change its exterior because it represents the time it was built.

there are even rocket murals inside but they are now saved and not overpainted.

yes there is the old terminal but it was closed long time ago, if you are interested what it looked like here are some photos http://www.lotnisko-chopina.pl/katalog/galeria/en/galeria.php , BTW why do they want to live exterior of Belgrade's airport it looks old and not nice, well its kind of strange explanation that it represents time it was built, airports should be modern not only inside, its not a trainstation

well they changed the glass and painted it. what are they supposed to do? i agree that it should look like this. warsaw airport also doesnt have very nice design (box) but it is still good i guess. the design is not important that much.

p.s.which other cities have big intl airport in poland?

Some do, some don't. I personally don't like it, wish it had been blown up in 1989.

Rondo in Polish means roundabout, Rondo 1 is located near the ONZ (United Nations) roundabout. Why is it 1 ? Well Skanska will build a complex nearby called Rondo City and there is no more space for any more buildings there, Im guessing it's purely a marketing thing.

Rondo 1 has a chance becomming the best skyscraper of Warsaw, we just have to see how the cladding will look like, it's usually what makes the building look good or bad. but I love it as it looks in the rendering.

P.S. 194m seems to be with that spire/antenna on the roof, the real height is 164m (to the roof)

I don't know what exactly has been going on, but I think they chose the French company with it's least experimental proposal. Personally, I think this is a good choice, though if it is not chosen, I think the Belgian proposal (with the glass columns) would be much better than the trite proposal by the Hungarians.

It seems as though its been a long time and I have yet to see anything substancial. I know that there are problems with PKP and who owns the land and that is delying things, but that does not mean designs cannot be made. BWT where does the land ownership matter stand?

in 1993 there was only Palace, Mariott, Intraco, Intraco2, Forum hotel and a Blue Tower, now there are many more skyscrapers (3 U/C)

There are two conceptions now. One is betwwen Lodz and Warsaw but second is north from warsaw. This airport is to be build after 2010 and it will cost bilions of euros. The purpose of this airport is to be a HUB and it will have capacity of 30 milions people per year(now Warsaw's Okecie have 5 milions).

Look at the new shopping centres, hotels, high rises, amusement parks, airports, the list goes on, Warsaw is probobly developing into the fastest developed country in Eastern Europe, but that's up against some stiff competition.

Jacek
January 9th, 2005, 07:04 AM
Actually the capacity of the new airport (transatlantic hub) near Warsaw is projected at 75-80 million people. It will cost between 2.5 to 3.5 billion euros. Decision concering its location will be made in March, construction should start around 2008-2010.

wow really!!!!! :eek2:

where did you find this information? Also, can you give us some more information about the airport, Im not really sure I understand what you mean by (transatlantic hub). I heard that flights to India would stop over in Warsaw b/c it cuts 3 hours off the flying time.

I can't wait for this sucker to be built. Its gonna be a monster. and that means bling bling.

Yes, it's Polish design. They will be built in Nowy Sacz near Krakow.

Unfortunatelly they'll be running on old rails... But generally this project it's an excellent idea because the first line will be running to Jozefow, where I'm living now :D

It's not completely new design, it's only modernisation of old suburban trains ;) They were designed and will be constructed by "Zaklady Naprawcze Taboru Kolejowego" - Railroad Rolling-stock Reparation Plants
