Crawf - you're the dickhead.

By way of back-tracking you make out that everyone has 'misinterpreted' your comments, but it's pretty clear what you're saying.
I have no insecurities at all about what's happening in Docklands - the biggest and most exciting urban renewal project in the country....I just find it rich that you use the word 'embarassing' to describe it. If anything it reeks of your insecurity and jealousy that it's not happening in Adelaide and is not likely to in our lifetime.
Coming from overseas does not make me an expert...but it gives me an insight as to how these new precincts and developments compare with what's happening on a similar scale elsewhere, and in my opinion Docklands is up there with the best of what I've seen. And I do have a life...a bloody nice one - but thanks for your concern!
When Adelaide attempts something of a similar scale to Docklands then we'll see how embarassed Melbourne is of it's pathetic attempt to develop it's urban wasteland.

Actually your comments say alot. Dont worry about your insecurities, you obviously have other issues to deal with.
As for who the d*** head is, I think even the Melbourne forumers will agree that you win that hands down, given your complete over reaction.

Crawf, Docklands is far from an embarrassing project, it is easily one of the most ambitious ever undertaken in Australia, and the project has certainly come a long way with projects such as Telstra Dome (Docklands Stadium back then) and the recently undertaken Southern Cross Station, even if there's still quite a bit of land left to redevelop.

The Port Adelaide redevelopment is significant in size, but there are many urban renewal projects like the Docklands that still easily cover costs and size many times that of the Port Adelaide one. Adelaide may not be moving at the pace of Melbourne, but to make a claim that is going nowhere is a statement that should've been thrown out a few years ago.

Melbourne being 4 times larger than Adelaide is NOT the reason why Melbourne is managing to move faster. Brisbane is less than half of Melbourne's size and yet it's absolute growth is basically on par with Melbourne's.

there actually is some truth behind crawf's arguments it may surprise you.

my sister's friend was involved with the building of many of the highrises at docklands and worked closely with some of the architects, planners and designers also. he told us that many corners were cut, and these buildings were built so poorly and so quickly that they wont last very long before they start to crack, and will possibly need to be renovated within 25years.

from an design point of view, some of these buildings are quite stunning and modern in appearence, but as for structurally, as many people have already said, time will tell

anyway, stop arguing, what does it achieve? im sure crawf never meant to have a go at melb./docklands
