Hong Kong Forum Trip - BUDAPEST

Seems like an annual tradition that several of us from the Hong Kong forum get together in London and fly off somewhere. I happened to be in town for one of these trips in 2007 to Budapest.

1. Arriving in Budapest by rail ... although a short ride from the airport, I didn't expect how rustic Eastern Europe still is - Nyugati pályaudvar.

3. Hopefully more of this awaits.

4. The subways run deep underground. These trains look quite retro, and the doors get quite ruthless when they close with a loud bang. Keep your fingers away.

5. We started walking around the Pest side. Strangely, the streets were quiet.

7. The beautiful Parliament building sits next to the river.

19. Some other monumental neighbours ...

22. I actually don't recall taking a tram while in Budapest.

28. Soon after we left the Parliament area, the streets got even more deserted. There didn't seem to be any street-level retail at all, which we thought was a bit strange considering this is the city centre.

33. I didn't mind so much about the serenity, though.

nice one cheers!
the areas where u mention the streets being quiet, is in the general downtown area but is mainly occupied by government and public authorities offices, and residential buildings, thats why theres not much retail there. later photos on your site show more of downtown. not hong kong type of crowded of course :)

Great photos, hkskyline, as usual from you.:applause: I'd love to stoll those streets again.:( The area behind the Parliament is my favourite area in Budapest, especially at dusk, when it's really, really quiet. To me it's the second best moody area I visited, after the one immediately to the East of Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris.

Your photgraphs are great. Actually the city itself is very beautiful.
