motul November 7th, 2003, 05:26 PM awesome....i love germany, thats why im learning german, cause i want to go live there some day :)
Martin S November 9th, 2003, 01:07 AM Next spring we will have direct flights from Liverpool to Berlin. I'm looking forward to going there again.
I went to the site of the Potsdamer Platz in 1987 and all that remained of it was a huge levelled area between the two sides of the Berlin Wall. Now it looks to be once again the Crossroads of Europe.
Anagorn February 11th, 2004, 03:08 PM Rise and Shine lovely Berlin!

Great pictures
Anagorn February 11th, 2004, 03:29 PM I´m not sure actually.
Is it supposed to be in Arkaden (Potsdamer Platz shopping mall) ?
Maybe some of the Berliners here might know?
Nick February 11th, 2004, 03:55 PM Yeah
I loved it.
The shopping center was very new at the time.A real contrast to the bullet holes left from World War II in and around the surrounding buildings
Necker February 11th, 2004, 04:20 PM WOW!!! cool buildings.
sam88 February 12th, 2004, 03:25 PM Does someone has large pics of the Sony Center(inside)

Here you can see an aspect I like VERY much about the Potsdamer Platz. Alle the great modern buildings are one thing, but the relatively small streets (what's the oppositve of wide? ah narrow I guess) make the whole area sooo urban. It's WONDERFUL to walk around there, having these big buildings to your left and right (and of course some highrises which you can't see on the first photo).
I see it very much here in the USA, where the city-planners most of the time didn't think a lot and areas are cut into pieces by the big streets. That's not the case at the Potsdamer Platz!
I respect the architects a lot for their acomplishment, creating such an urban area out of nothing. (there was lots of critism in the newspapers in the beginning, that the area won't be lively, well go there and you'll see).
Anagorn February 12th, 2004, 08:54 PM Again, those pics are quite old but I definitely
understand what you´re saying and I agree
since I´ve been there myself!
Potsdamer Platz is quite unique!

Anagorn February 13th, 2004, 10:07 AM Berlin is quite unique because it has three city centers:
Alexander Platz (City East)
Breitscheid Platz (City West)
Potsdamer Platz (Smack in the middle in between them!)
Wunderschön!

Anagorn March 4th, 2004, 04:10 PM I´m afraid I can´t see those pics! :?
vigo80 March 4th, 2004, 04:13 PM Potsdamer is beautiful and the project is something Berlin be can very proud of. The only thing I don't like about is that there is no real neighborhood feeling in the area because it is so new and there aren't any residential areas bordering it. But it is definetely a cool project and the city is growing around it, eliminating the empty patches that once surrounded the area.
Berlin would be a cool place for me to live if it weren't one of the poorest cities in Germany, but that will change eventually I hope. Either way it is always fun to visit there.
Anagorn March 4th, 2004, 08:23 PM Well, Stresemann Strasse leads right into Potsdamer Platz from Kreuzberg and
has lots of residentials as well as Leipziger Strasse which will be even
more connected to the area when Leipziger Platz is complete.

cello1974 April 5th, 2004, 09:25 PM I lived one year in Berlin. The thing I least liked was the mostly empty faceless Potsdamer Platz! Berlion has much more to offer. Potsdamer Platz is too sterile. My opinion, I know that many people like it. But even many Berliners don't like it! :)
Anagorn April 6th, 2004, 01:10 PM Well, it will be a lot more lively and non-sterile
when its completely finished in a few years!
