Leaders gather to discuss urban issues in Asia
12 August 2008

HONOLULU (AP) - Metropolitan leaders and experts from a variety of Asian and U.S. cities have gathered at the East-West Center in Honolulu this week for a seminar on critical urbanization issues facing Asia's cities.

"Urban Transformation in Asia: Policy Implications of Decentralization" will examine current trends and implications of rapid urbanization of Asian cities.

A systems-wide approach -- political, economic and social -- is being used at the seminar that runs through Wednesday. There's a special focus on issues of urban governance.

Among those attending are the mayors of Kathmandu, Nepal, and Quezon City, the Philippines.

There are also officials and experts from Indonesia, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and India, as well as Los Angeles and New York.

Not much in terms of details but there is an outline of topics discussed.

I haven't gone through the press releases. Perhaps there's more there.
