CULWULLA November 1st, 2003, 11:34 AM As part of the forum 'clean up" and maintenance we have to keep large threads to under 500 posts . These large ones tend to cause a bit of hassle. Anyway the "part 1" is now closed but obviously you can still view it.
cheers

climbing_crane November 1st, 2003, 01:04 PM Sweet. Well I will kickstart this thread with some pics I took today. I'm no great photographer, I just snap what I see. My photos always amaze me. That's why I love photography.
Anyway for some reason I really like the first pic.

Believe me I don't stand there for hours on end waiting for the perfect shot.
I always seem to be in the right place at the right time when photography is concerned. I was just heading home from the rugby game when I took this. At the time I wanted it to be really dark so I could have a night pic of it. I was heading to the site and in my head it was wayyyy to light. But once I snapped away I just Knew it was a great shot.
finn November 1st, 2003, 03:19 PM Fan-freakin-tastic pics guys! Latitude is just looking better and better! :okay:
Muse, I especially love the detail shown in your first pic! The different glass types in the facade and the way blend together, plus the huge overhang - all looks great!
c_c - your second pic (the one SydneyDude liked) is brilliant! With World Tower appearing externally complete from that angle, plus Latitude's glorious glassy facade, its easy to imagine how excellent the World Square complex is gonna look when all done!
Thanks again for the pics guys! :D
chrisaus November 1st, 2003, 03:40 PM great shots guys, I really like the look of the tower!

Fabian November 1st, 2003, 09:43 PM The shot of E&Y from Darling Harbour in the World Tower thread is great as it shows the increasing dominance of the tower from the west!!! The fascade is looking quite incredible and cannot wait to meet the tower face to face next week as my reward for completing the HSC.:)

sensational muse! i love the shiny aluminium material used itn its desgn! im quite sure the last step which is missing from the upper levels (BMU) is actually going to be a darker cladding like the darkergrey paint work., but i might be wrong. This would "break up" the top area nicely!
Ive worked out latitide should reach the rear silver blades in that pic!!! with the 70m spire not much lower then lantern base!

CULWULLA November 5th, 2003, 11:50 PM spaz asked me to take a pic of latitude model from south to show impact on WT! heres a pic from Cleveland st . The 190m bulk of Latitude hides all but the top few floors of WT!

you can also see the Aspect coloured red at right. The spire is now 150m high. still awaiting final height though!
spazpecker November 6th, 2003, 12:30 AM Love your work Cul. Latitude is monstering the southern CBD almost to the same extent as WT !
I was at the Ent Cent last night for the Kings game and I needed almost every finger ( almost had to drop my dacks....;) ) to count the cranes visible from the mezzanine levels.

While waiting to cross George St yesterday to go to World Tower, I looked up at Latitude and noticed how huge this beast is when your close. Even looking at from the pool deck of World Tower says the same thing, I even had some trouble trying to squeeze it into one image, not to mention when grabbing shots from Liverpool St - I now have to turn the camera 90 degrees to squeeze it all in;)

This part of the podium is actually being marketed as 650 George which will contain boutique office space. It even comes with special parking , natural light and showers.
fro November 29th, 2003, 01:06 PM Awesome pics guys, especially Crane! Tops! All those pics! I loooooooove the human persepective you've got going there Crane, but it's not a spot on Fabian's. ;)
Yeah, interesting news about this boutique office space. 650 George. Sounds rather formal... should dramatically lift the standards of the surrounding area. Dramatically. Makes you wonder though. For pretty much my entire life, this building site has been just that, a biulding site. In 2 years time, it will be a vibrant, living, breathing area... with office workers, residents and business owners all giving this section fo the city LIFE.
How good is that.

Aussie Steve December 2nd, 2003, 02:30 AM All I can say is "WOW". Its an amazing building that is very similar to the 2 small officer towers at QV fronting Swanston St. This tower belongs in Melbourne as does GP. An excellent new office tower for the Sydney CBD.
CULWULLA December 3rd, 2003, 04:07 AM took some pix today and noticed 2 things!
1. has anyone noticed the dark glass which rises up the rear. Its really noticable up close.its the vertical panels beihind crane in this pic. I think it will give the large expanse of green glass a change.

Has anyone noticed the fire stairs which run up the front elevation. These will be the permanant fire escape stair case. all steel!! they will be wrapped in steel cladding which rises to 190m.
http://www.emporis.co.uk/files/transfer/6/2003/12/233056.jpg
We were briefed at work (at Ernst & Young) on Monday all about the internal layout of the tower and also those external stairs, for when we move in about this time next year!
We will occupy 20 floors of the tower (the top 20) from level 31 to 51, and the layout is very open plan, with a "club" on each level! I think in terms of "club" it will be a Qantas Lounge type set out with lounges, coffee machines, food, reading material etc. Anyway, each club will have a different theme, such as beach, nightclub etc., and will alternate between floors as being either a "large club" format or a "small club" format.
So basically, we will be able to move between the differently themed and sized clubs via this steel staircase, which will be encased in glass, giving amazing views! The idea is to get more interaction between the different divisions of the business by drawing people to the different clubs. Don't know if it will work, but sounds pretty excellent anyway! :D
CULWULLA December 10th, 2003, 03:55 AM what a fab idea with the stairs and interaction with other floors!
todays pic shows a CORE RISE IN PROGRESS!! note level35 is only half shown, this will be fully shown by end of day.
also the top of core box is NOW RL153M/500FT!!!!!!!

Muse December 10th, 2003, 07:48 AM So as far as cores and floors go, another 10 levels to go. Being a floor plate kinda guy myself rather than a core kinda guy, there will also be the crown level/s to go. Then the Aurora Place-type spire.
I'm still wondering what the huge bracing that is exposed on the northern side over 2 floors represents. Some huge mid-way plant/service area perhaps.
It will be interesting to see how the southern facade fares on the same levels. By the renders, the same floors are just cladded like the other office levels.
This tower is coitainly gunna look supoib on completion! :D
BTW I wish the developers would take down the plackards that run along both George and Goulburn Streets @ street level, showing the older and lower East render. The reason being is that they know a 23 level / 80m East is coming, although not finalised as yet.
climbing_crane December 10th, 2003, 09:10 AM I wonder if it's possible to sneak in at night and climb up those stairs.:)

muse the "huge bracing exposed up midway" are the 2 level midlevel plantrooms located at levels-25/26. this has become an even easier way for me to count levels as there are indicated in my elevation!

Is there any way of re-posting the elevation in this thread as it must be in one of the 500 posts of the OFFICIAL Latitude (Part 1) thread? The search function is still down :(.

CULWULLA December 18th, 2003, 06:00 AM took pix of huge latitude model today! very impressed!
did everyone know the southern face has light green glass while northern face is dark green!
the silver spire looks fab! also theres a white section in centre at top . I also now why the top 10m got through council even though its cuts thru sun plane. Its just a glass box with open top . this is where the cooling towers are!
plus got pix of new EAST
ill post pix later

Fabian December 18th, 2003, 07:24 AM One of the best models I've ever seen for any scraper!!!! The World Tower model is nothing when comapred to this. I don't think you can even see through that model, unlike this one.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid93/p1e06e8cac6914323c5f1ffcc15a09cb8/fa44f83e.jpg

CULWULLA December 18th, 2003, 10:34 AM i know the model maker and he is brilliant! he was there with model. The model was 1;200, nearly 5ft tall!
He said confidentially it was $60,000+! He asked me if i had seen a better model! i said nope! It had electrical fibre optics running through which apparently looks spectacular when turned on!
I couldnt help notice the similaritys with latitude and world tower.
The greens, the black glass, the white columns, it really is going to lok like one complex along with the EAST which should be a light green glass.
CC- the model was in council chambers and at tonights council for the retail complex part of site.
CULWULLA December 18th, 2003, 11:33 AM muse- as promised an elevation of Latitude viewed from eastern elevation.sorry bout pink ink but i keep tabs on all projects ,this is its current height in pink. note how the top plantroom protrudes through sun plane!! i found out today when i viewed large model that its an open top plantroom with glass walls (similar to Wt lantern but open top.). This is where the 5 cooling towers are located.

The floor plate is currently at 30lev ,so 14 more to go.
as for core ,its leve36, so 8 lev to go or 50m!
Fabian December 20th, 2003, 11:10 PM Good distance shots from CC. I had been ranting on for sometime about it not being tall nor impacting much on the skyline and now I don't have to say that anymore at all!!!! It's been the case for about a month now. It's actually looking great from a distance and I hope to inspect it from even further out in the not too distant future.
It's a shame I don't have the right camera to show it well enough.

Fabian December 24th, 2003, 10:02 AM I'm getting the images. From this angle you can recognise how bulky Latitude's floorplates actually are in comparison to other CBD scrapers, especially the very slim World Tower. The same goes for the south even though from where I live, it can be a bit difficult to notice with the naked eye:)

gazmo December 29th, 2003, 11:36 AM Be sure you have a tripod and a cable shutter release - the way I achieved the lighting was to open the shutter for over 10 seconds - hence all the ambient lighting illuminates the buildings.
See my posts in the World Tower thread for more of these night shots.

Fabian December 29th, 2003, 08:14 PM It's a nice see through of WT at sunrise but in that pic, but thats without the cladding. Even during the day, you can see right through.

gazmo December 29th, 2003, 11:02 PM Point taken - that's because of the columnless design - where all the weight is supported by the exterior columns (WTC's shell did the same thing).
BT will be very similar.
Just wait until the tennants partition the space, and make offices out of the space.... it won't stay see through once that happens.

I had to enlarge the image in photoshop as the windy weather made for taking pics very tough, even though I had a zoom which would make it very visible. Plus I do not know of any hosts that can let me host pix at a bigger size.

Lets clear a few things.Well, that's the gist of it. Clearer, not necessarily bigger. I would rather see clearer shots than bigger ones.
I'm sure you should be aware of the indicator that tells you when you're going 'over' into loosing clarity. Meaning that you're already zooming in on a zoomed-in image and that's @ the expense of loosing clarity. It's great for whacky out-of-it-devil-may-care party shots yet not for architectural detail.
There's the moiture-in-the-air factor too being summer and lots of bays between you and downtown Sydney i.e. heaps of evaporation that delicate world of the lens can pick up. Can see the moisture in CULS shot too. It can be seen with the ouwh-la-la naked eye even.
It would be more beneficial in taking it somewhere like Moore Park without distance and evaporation in between, albeit not as convenient yet with much more of the desired effect.
Go Latitude!! You biyuuuutiiiieeeeeeeyyyy!
Work proper apparently begins on Monday 5th Jan. We will be watching! (I'm having construction withdrawls).

Muse January 6th, 2004, 07:38 PM Now that we have dissected Fabian's pic, can we now (a request) move forward and get pics people of Latitude's construction back in full swing. Time to move on folks!!

Muse January 8th, 2004, 02:56 PM As Fabian's last pic post displays, levels 29 & 30 are now covered in mesh. The core is already rising dramatically...before you can say "Jack Robinson".

zulu69 January 9th, 2004, 05:09 AM Went past yesterday and this baby is starting to flex its muscles. It is dominating the area. Also the reflection of near by buildings add much needed glass. As cul says once meriton tower and ze rest are built, wall st here we come.!!!

You seem to be right but we may be seeing a core rise instead. I'm just not sure :? I chatted with Muse about it and he commented how quickly it has been progressing in the past week and a half.
http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v28/Fabian/Picture_068.jpg
gazmo January 14th, 2004, 11:01 AM That definately looks like a core reconfiguration/thinning to me.
If you notice the previous floor has 2 lift apertues, the level you can see just exposed has 1, and there's blank concrete where the other lift aperture was.
Also on the right side (George St?) side of the core you can see mesh exposed instead of a solid concrete core.... and you can see through and above the lift aperture on the right - ie, there's no core above it, even though the core box is at least 1 level above.
I think we're seeing the transition to a thinned down core with perhaps only 1 lift..

zulu69, if the glass cladding contains Potassium benzoate, why is that bad? We know it includes toxic chemicals, but whether outside or inside, nobody including the construction workers and the workers inside shoud be effected by it.

spazpecker January 20th, 2004, 01:46 AM Hey Cul how high is Latitude to roof as opposed to the 190m top of the lightbox ? 180m ?
The reason I ask is that from the inner west the actual roof line will very prominent - as opposed to the relitavely thin wedge of the 190m lightbox above it ( as seen from the east and westerly aspects) . The low RL of the site also means that the height you'd expect from a fully fledged 190m tower will be slightly diminished.
I'm not complaining though.

gazmo, heres a scale diagram ive drawn up to show relative comparison.
The heights ive shown are above sea level (RL). If you want heights above street you take 16m from World Towers RL's or 10m from Latitudes RL's.(there is a 6m height dif from Liverpool to Goulburn st)
Ive also shown current construction status of core/floor/glass.
and BMU plantroom which is to be built after crane is removed.
note- ive just noticed an error .the roof of latitude is Rl187m .its 177m above ground.

climbing_crane January 24th, 2004, 02:46 AM Yes I like those diagrams you show Culwulla. Good to see where it's at and how much to go.
gazmo January 25th, 2004, 05:59 AM Outstanding work Culwulla - thank you for investing the time to make the diagram.
It's now clear that Latitude does infact have some way to go and it's impact will only increase as a result!
My previous estimates have been based on my observation that when I looked at the model of Latitude, the 2-level plant room was exactly in the middle of the glassed in levels when counted from George Street (which is it's street address). There's 16 glass levels, 2 plant, then 16 glass level then plant. This count is the same when you view the tower from the north, but different from the south because of the fins that overhang the comercial building referred to as "688 George Street"
http://www.latitudetower.com.au/688george/building_description.htm
Also gotta say that the WT BMU room will help make the top of WT more balanced imho

BTW I passed the site yesterday on George, and on the southern/western aspect, the lower floors of the stairwell are already being cladded in glass. We anticipate the glass cladding for the stairwell will eventually go as high as the stairwell deems necessary. All good :okay:
My initial fear was the stairwell was going to be clad in some form of el-cheapo aluminium material. Yipppeee for glass cladding.

climbing_crane January 31st, 2004, 12:11 PM I liked the horizontal close-up better. How good is that glass under the fins looking. Complete. It wasn't like that last time I took a pic.

climbing_crane January 31st, 2004, 01:52 PM Thank you Richard and Flyin Higher'. This has got to be a first from you, a post in an Australian thread when you are just over in NZ. I figure it must of been a pretty special photo to get your attention. Thanks again, all these positive replies are really urging me on to choose a career I am deeply passionate about.

Actually, we have been informed at work that we will be moving into the E&Y Centre in October!
Muse January 31st, 2004, 05:37 PM Yes, and they're starting to clad the upper floors above the 2 mid-level plant floor metallic gratings. As seen in this pic by c_c:

Impact is becoming huge now from the outside of the city
Muse February 2nd, 2004, 09:05 PM Look at that bottleneck forming on the ANZAC!!
I like the photo at the top of this page. If you stand around The RSL on the opposite side of George, Latitude is already looking massive (and still with a way to go).

Fabian February 3rd, 2004, 04:59 AM There has been a core rise according to Cul's last pic.;) It's now at level 40.
climbing_crane February 3rd, 2004, 05:08 AM A genuine office Level 40 for me draws the line between an average scraper and a huge scraper. This one's big to state the obvious.

How much is that overhang?
aussieinsoho February 4th, 2004, 04:26 PM IMO this tower is the real beauty of all the towers U/C in Sydney...yum

I wholeheartedly agree.
BT comes a close second, then KENS.
But that overhang in the picture above, (is that yours Damien or C_C's?) really shows how classy Latitude is.
CULWULLA February 4th, 2004, 10:36 PM its a pity you wont actually see much of the over hang due to the 30m high podium.

climbing_crane February 4th, 2004, 11:22 PM Sorry to ask again but is there an address I can go and see that scale of Latitude.
ParraMan February 5th, 2004, 12:25 AM Maybe they can put some bars or....dare I say it, a foodcourt on top of the podium so we can all admire the overhang of this beauty :D
CULWULLA February 5th, 2004, 04:44 AM core rise! level 40! now 160m high.

Meanwhile work continues on the 650 George boutique development. It's all mesh which is making it hard to determine what level it's at. I've put it at level 4.
I'm not sure if it's already been posted but I've noticed the fire stairs are being cladded in glass, quite unusual but comes in well if there's a fire or some emergency in the tower.
SydneyDude February 5th, 2004, 10:09 AM This tower is lookin fantastic... Its hard to believe a Sydney architecture firm actually designed it, it looks very much like a building you'd see in Melbourne.
demanjo February 5th, 2004, 10:33 AM This is a bit off topic but oh well.
From the renderings and drawings that ive seen of Civic tower, it looks like the most ugly, out of date building ever, but in real life & in the picutres, it is actually not that bad!
It looks alot more professional and modern than i anticipated.
ParraMan February 5th, 2004, 07:44 PM Has anyone got pics of the fire stairs being cladded now? Sounds really bizzarre to be able to see people running down in an emergency.....

@demanjo- Civic Tower was designed in 1975 along with its base (Masonic Centre) its a beautifully elegant structure. Its the only one of type in Australia!
nice simple facade/shape ect
Sydguy1 February 6th, 2004, 10:35 AM Damn this building is looking sexy.Besides Ernst and Young who else will be calling LAtitude Home,if anyone else knows please do tell.Just Curious to know besides the Anchor tenants who else is filling up the space in Sydney's new Towers.

No, I'm not sure what other tenants will be moving in...but we have a large proportion of the tower (maybe 60-70%?), and we will be occupying all floors from level 30 up (it goes to level 55 I think), with the bottom 9 floors being the underground parking...so the lobby is level 10 (all kinda confusing).
Anyway, here's a diagram showing the part of the tower that we will not occupy, as highlighted by the red - so basically all levels above the red levels:

fro February 7th, 2004, 03:30 AM I have a good friend that's going to be moving into this tower. He works for Ernst & Young.
demanjo February 7th, 2004, 08:39 AM Wow
Love the rendering, gives you a nice shot of the entire building.
Love this one!

How unbelievably good is this tower looking? 10/10.
gazmo February 9th, 2004, 03:45 AM Wow, how smick do those stars look?
Looks like they have refined the design somewhat and gone for the black glass treatment instead for something clear that would have given it that red stripe up the side.
:okay:
