Stadium:
Euro 2012:
Kraków is a reserve city for the Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. Wisła Stadium is the planned venue in the city, its design will probably change to match all requirements set by UEFA for host stadiums. Final design is known on May 2008. Capacity of the stadium is now planned at at least 33,680.
South Stand:
Before this investment the place was empty with only some 500 temporary guest section existing. Construction on the site started in November 2004 with striker Maciej Żurawski digging the first shovel. First supporters entered it when it was half-finished section in August 2005, for the game against Panathinaikos in Champions League qualifiers. The total construction ended in July 2007. Unfortunately the E Stand became known for design errors. The construction company found over 100 errors of different kind, which became a big issue in the club's policy towards the city of Krakow.
North Stand:
Construction on this part of the stadium, which is similar to the South Stand was started in 2006 and is definitively finished June 30th 2008. It holds 5,690 seats which in Spring is will become the new official fanatic section. Especially for the supporters, the middle sections have a white star symbol created of blue, red and white seats. Cost at 35mln PLN.
Media Building:
A special building is for the media, to hold press conferences, player presentations, etc. It is located in the South-western corner of the stadium. Cost was estimated at some 12mln PLN. Construction was started on September 3rd 2007 and ended in mid-December 2007.

Kuvvaci August 19th, 2008, 05:56 PM I think Polish league will be very important league in the future...
berkshire royal August 19th, 2008, 09:01 PM ^^
It definitely has the potential. Poland’s economy is growing at a good rate and the population of Poland and the cities are of decent size, with this stadium boom that is going on at the moment there is definitely great potential for attracting investors and I’m guessing there could well be a huge increase in attendances. If this happens there is a very good chance of Polish clubs reaching higher standards on the European stage.
Kuvvaci August 19th, 2008, 09:04 PM I completely agree... Same thing will happen in Russia... maybe in my country too, but we are a little bit slow for now.
berkshire royal August 19th, 2008, 09:23 PM For me the Russian and Turkish leagues already have developed greatly over the last few years and will continue to do so. It is impressive seeing the success of the clubs over the last few years especially when you consider that it appears that many of clubs don’t have great infrastructure. I reckon over the next 10 years with the ever improving professionalism of clubs and ever growing economies I reckon that those two leagues will be amongst the biggest in Europe probably on a par with some of the strongest in Europe. I wouldn't be surprised if in the next few years a team from Russia or Turkey wins the Champions League. I reckon that Russia and Turkey are going to become much bigger but I also reckon that the leagues in Poland, Ukraine, Romania and Greece will also become stronger and more competitive over the next decade or so. I can’t wait to see how big and competitive the Champions League and UEFA Cup will be in 10 years time
Kuvvaci August 19th, 2008, 10:21 PM Russian and Turkish teams did good jobs recently and there are good investments. But our leagues are not enough yet, our infrasutructure is still weak and there are huge difference between some major clubs and the rest. I think, Premier League is number one. And La Liga, Serie A, Budesliga are bests leagues too. Portugese League and French League follows them. Turkish and Russian leagues are paralel now. There are important steps but totally not enough yet. Hopefully we have good stadium projects wich will the rise the level of the league up. Greece league is important with Athens teams and following their competition is very interesting. Polish league and Ukraine is coming. EURO 2012 will cause a football boom in both countries wich already have important potential.

wearethefuture August 22nd, 2008, 12:50 AM Why is there a need for fencing in between every section of seating? I can understand for an away stand, it would appear in the renders that all the new stands will have the same fencing as well.
AdrianSuvalkai August 23rd, 2008, 02:15 AM We do not know why this are. It is a architect idea. (Shit!) Fans hate that. You are right. These fences are very stupid ...

Today was signed agreement with the company Polimex-Mostostal (the same company is building the eastern tribune, so this company will complete construction of the stadium) for construction of the new west tribune of the stadium
PaulFCB March 27th, 2009, 03:03 PM I don't understand why Crakovia doesn't have a good stadium for Euro 2012, I mean it's the second biggest city in Poland, it's the most cultural city in this country, it has important football teams like Wisla but only a reserve stadium while cities la Gdansk, Wroclaw or Poznan you don't really hear about will have new ultra modern stadiums.
PiotrG March 27th, 2009, 03:19 PM Construction of this stadium began a few years ago, D podiums and E were left built. The first plan assumed 25k cap. After granting us the EURO 2012 a conception for the stadium to hold was changed 33k. The stadium will be better than the majority of objects on EURO 2008, but of him "originality" it is possible to thank you for the architect which has not a clue about the stadiums design. As well Cracow is also building the other stadium cap 15k for the second club "Cracovia" (this stadium is building for "Wisła Kraków")

PaulFCB March 27th, 2009, 03:33 PM Still, it looks weird Krakow will have 33k and a reserve stadium while a city la Gdansk will have over 40k the same for Wroclaw and Poznan. Especially that Gdansk and Wroclaw will have brand new stadiums. Just seems weird that maybe the most important football city in Poland won't have something as big or as modern as other less important cities.
I would have seen Krakow as the 2nd city rather then the reserve.
Black Label March 27th, 2009, 03:49 PM Gdansk is in 3city, take a look what is it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tricity,_Poland
In 3city, we have also two football teams in our major league(Arka Gdynia, Lechia Gdansk), with bigger frequency together than Cracow(Wisla&Cracovia). In Gdansk there is a full stadium (10 000) almost every match though a low place in table.
sądeczanin_pol March 27th, 2009, 04:50 PM Still, it looks weird Krakow will have 33k and a reserve stadium while a city la Gdansk will have over 40k the same for Wroclaw and Poznan. Firstly, division for "host cities" and "reserve cities" is out of date, now both Poland and Ukraine have 6 cities with the same chances to be a E2012 host city. Also UEFA can choose for example 6 polish cities + 2 ukrainian, 5 pl - 3 ukr, 3 pl - 5 ukr etc...so it`s big unknown which of these cities will get E2012 as a host :) Also Poznan, Wrocław and Gdansk are not less important cities for polish football, maybe you have such opinion because of quite good Wisla`s play in last seasons in european cups, but it`s not true. Poznan, Wroclaw and Gdansk have the same capabilities like Krakow, anyway look at Lech`s Poznan playstyle and scores in current UEFA Cup season, attendance, fan`s settings - it`s the best manageable polish club now. And to my mind Slask (Wroclaw) and Lechia (Gdansk) will go through similar way and we`ll have several clubs in good european level at least and really good league level.
likasz March 27th, 2009, 05:15 PM Cracow will have a 15,000-seater indoor arena for 100,000,000 USD so they haven't cash to build very big stadium.Maybe in the future when Wisla will have some success in European football somebody will build a bigger and more modern stands behind the goals like Südtribüne in Dortmund (my wish). But it is still a long way for it.
PaulFCB March 28th, 2009, 06:21 PM Firstly, division for "host cities" and "reserve cities" is out of date, now both Poland and Ukraine have 6 cities with the same chances to be a E2012 host city. Actually, the only thing I know about the last years Wisla's run is that the 3rd Qual. Round of the C.L. ( the first match on New Camp ). But I know they are very successful in you're Championship while about Zaglebie I know they have been relegated for game fixing or something like that, they played Steaua in the 2nd Preliminary Round and I saw anything else then a champion play over there especially that Steaua sucked itself.
So UEFA can actually Choose 6+2 for Poland? Well, I doubt that, but I'm sure it will still be 4+4 maybe with a hope that Warsaw can host the final on the brand new no-athletics track stadium ( Kiev's horrible with that track ).
Plus, when either Poland and Ukraine can build 6 stadiums why couldn't one of the afford 8 so they can host it on they're own?
PiotrG March 28th, 2009, 07:10 PM ^^
In order to organize EURO 2012 theoretically only 6 stadiums "elite class" are need , in it one cap 50k. EURO 2012 is however a collaborative project Poland-Ukraine, in addition these are Ukrainians suggested to organize it with Poland.
In Poland to 2012 will be 7 stadiums Elite Class:
- Warszawa Stadion Narodowy (55k+)
- Warszawa Stadion Legii (30k+)
- Gdańsk Baltic Arena (40k+)
- Wrocław Stadion Miejski (40k+)
- Kraków Stadion Wisły (30k+)
- Chorzów Stadion Śląski (55k+)
- Poznań Stadion Miejski (40k+)
maybe, new stadion in Zabrze (30k+) will be ready to 2012
but it is collaborative project Poland&Ukraine :)
now the option 4+4 is current
PaulFCB March 28th, 2009, 07:25 PM "Elite Class" that means ( untill 2012 cause since 2016 there are going to be 24 teams ) 1 over 50k ( 5 stars before ), 1 over 40k ( 4 stars before ) and other 4 stadiums of at least 30k. And even if its a collaborative project why couldn't they have tried it on they're own? These are 2 bigs countrys especially face to Ned&Bel and Swi&Aut and clearly the infrastructures of these country's are well under the previous 3 organizers. I would find it pretty difficult to drive between Gdanks and Donetk/Kharkov face to how short a Vienna-Basel or Amsterdam-Brussels. So for me on paper it looks like a collaboration but I don't find nothing wrong for a Romania-Czech Republic Euro or a Slovakia-Bulgaria in the conditions these countries even though not next to each other don't have bigger distances between the hosting cities.
Of course from 2016, the minimum number of stadiums will raise from 6 to 9 for a single hosting country.
And about the Euro, just in case I would like to make a visit it will 99% probably be Poland over Ukraine unless Odessa will host games, being quite close to me what city in Poland would be a better visit?
likasz March 29th, 2009, 10:56 AM It's not our fault that Ukraine is so far.Ask them to come closer with Odessa and Kharkiv:D.
Bandera March 30th, 2009, 06:30 AM Yeah its not our fault that Ukraine is larger then Poland, Romania, and Slovakia put together so deal with it! You dont want to come then dont come we will have bunch of other torrists coming in to see the games.
likasz March 30th, 2009, 10:02 AM I heard that the stadium in Dnipro has too small number of seats and UEFA told you to inscrease its capacity to atleast 30,000.Is it true?
Bandera March 31st, 2009, 08:43 AM ^^ What I heard is that they going to move some chairs and increase the capacity.
PaulFCB March 31st, 2009, 08:32 PM Yeah its not our fault that Ukraine is larger then Poland, Romania, and Slovakia put together so deal with it! You dont want to come then dont come we will have bunch of other torrists coming in to see the games.
Well Poland just remains a easier visit thanks to them being in the E.U. and not needing nothing else then my ID to visit. Ukraine has Odessa quite close and Kiev is maybe a city worth visiting apart from seeing a game face to other cities that will host in you're country.
Bandera April 1st, 2009, 09:05 AM ^^ Well Lviv is a nice city to visit, but its up to you!

will they move the pitch a lil bit more to this stand?
Otherwise huge distance
PiotrG April 15th, 2009, 09:33 PM Yes, pitch will be moved in the direction of the C podium, however the distance still will be considerable, podiums D and E (which are already ready) they built too wide.

Did anyone ever confirm that? This was speculations and early talk but nothing like that in the project from what I recall, I think there's nothing like that planned which leaves us with 16-17m between pitch and east stand, unfortunatelly.

michał_ June 4th, 2009, 02:58 AM Which other locations will they play? At Cracovia or Chorzow maybe?
In the licensing committee Wisla has suggested the Stadion Ludowy in Sosnowiec (7,5k capacity http://stadiony.net/stadium.php?s=605) or the Dialog Arena (16k, http://stadiony.net/project.php?p=137 for Champions League exclusively, not for Polish Ekstraklasa). Never, ever suggest for the club to play at Cracovia's ground :) btw, it's going to be torn down as well this summer hopefully, it's among the ugliest.
Cracovia June 4th, 2009, 03:03 AM Even if it was not being rebuilt, we would never let wisla play home games in our ground. We would build a wall or kill them all if neccessary ;)
Cracovia June 4th, 2009, 03:24 AM Also i would disagree with it being the Ugliest, it has a certain charm :)

There are no more reserved venues. The cities you have stated are definitely getting the games. In Ukraine, only Kyiv is on board. Lviv, Kharkiv and Donetsk still need to be approved. Krakow, much like Odessa and Dnipropetrivsk are out of the running. Meaning there is no chance of them hosting.

NMAISTER007 August 12th, 2009, 11:43 PM ^^ Okay just because that Ukraine are off track doesn't mean Platini will say no to Ukraine. We do not know what he will say. Maybe he will approve all the cities in Ukraine, maybe not. Its not like you went further in time to see what he said. We will find out on the 30th of November. But I have to say one thing, Poland will not be able to host the tournament alone, and they won't host it with Germany or any other country. Its Ukraine, or nothing but a failed Euro tournament for both countries.

Gurrajas October 21st, 2009, 02:12 AM When will they start with the roof on the east stand? And if they have, when will it become more "visible"?
Bartek Suchy October 21st, 2009, 08:38 AM It should start after finishing this small concrete "roof" for media. So as it is almost done I think we will see first parts of the roof in one week, maybe two.

Not much progress? I don't agree... is normal.
They are going to start construction of roof in end of november (East Stand). Inside the East Stand will be skyboxes, boardrooms, offices, restauration, club museum, magazines, shops, catering points etc.

People were moaning that the roof from the end stand would obstruct the view of the pitch. This picture so that clearly isn't the case.:)
Sponsor November 7th, 2009, 01:08 AM That was obvious it won't obstruct the view of the pitch but still makes uncomfortable view as it covers the opposite stand.
If I designed it, I'd left corners at 1 tier and start 2nd tier a bit further.
AdrianSuvalkai November 7th, 2009, 02:37 PM That was obvious it won't obstruct the view of the pitch but still makes uncomfortable view as it covers the opposite stand.

actually only Legia played [and will play] at home during whole construction process. for the long time the pitch of Lechs stadium was under concrete block [the cause was assembly of its ginormous roof].
I think the main cause in such cases is economics its harder hence more expensive to arrange contr. site so you wont damage the pitch.

Terminator Krzysztof June 25th, 2010, 05:06 PM Why is there a need for fencing in between every section of seating? I can understand for an away stand, it would appear in the renders that all the new stands will have the same fencing as well.
Its because Wisla Krakow fans are some of the most crazy and intense fans in football. The supporters are known as some of the most renowned and passionate fans in Poland, if not in Europe. There is usually great violence between the two local teams Wisla and Cracovia. But, The greatest rivalry in polish football is Betwwen Wisla Krakow and Legia Warsaw and usually has many gangs and police involved, so i mguessing the fences rae to seperate different groups from each other.

how true.

NO. No. No. To all of it. Do not listen to fairy tales like these. I mean, some of it is true, but NOT at football matches. The games of Wisla have barely any incidents, and I don't recall any major ones in recent years. The support isn't even abusive (for Polish standards).
The barriers between sections of home seating are unreasonable and have never been consulted with anyone apart from the police (and if you give them a chance to raise high fences, they don't say no). Supporters are consulting to remove them as the ones on the northern and eastern (single tiers) stands actually seriously obstruct views of people in the nearest seats. So no - no need for these that Terminator Krzysztof suggests.
And btw - Sercan - the final final final capacity of the stadium is 33 594 seats :)

NMAISTER007 August 15th, 2010, 11:20 PM This is a question to the people who live in Krakow (Or who know Krakow well), I will be visiting Krakow next month for 5 days and I was wondering if anybody could give me the street where the stadium is located, I just want to have a glance at it from the outside :)
Bartek Suchy August 15th, 2010, 11:46 PM Reymonta Street - full address is Reymonta 22. You can also walk "3 maja" street. It has nicer neighbourhood and you can see Cracovia stadium from there. Wisła Stadium is between these two streets. Reymonta is from the North, 3 maja is from the South. Hope I helped.

Every well-known club in Europe has those fans but surely with the number of hardcore Wisla fans, it shouldn't be an issue - why would there be any less of them?
kal323Ci August 16th, 2010, 03:16 PM A hardcore fan wasnt always a hardcore fan. The love has to start somewhere. So those Sunday fans, can become a "hardcore" fan one day. now it will be easier for people to go to games, bcause of the availability of tickets.
So many times I wanted to go to a game when I was in Krakow, but it was impossible to get decent tickets.

Good solution but it was originally meant to be one-tiered stadium with one two-tiered stand so there was no reason to make that roof higer. Then concept changed, side stands level got raised while end stands were already done.
michał_ November 4th, 2010, 07:19 AM Good solution but it was originally meant to be one-tiered stadium with one two-tiered stand so there was no reason to make that roof higer. Then concept changed, side stands level got raised while end stands were already done.
well, originally it was meant to be one-tiered all. Then cam the concept of one two-tiered stand and then the 2nd two-tiered opposite, with a few mutations in between.
But apart from that I have no idea why this disproportion got so much criticism from you guys. Having been there a few times now I think that they did the best they could (still, their abilities are somewhere around... crap) to save it from the misery they've put it in initially with the stands behind goals and the result is really decent.
Corner stands are indeed a bit of a mess, but still offering each spectator a good view (I actually think from what I've heard from people who watch games there that it's the best view one gets in this stadium).
And leveling the roof with the higher parts is simply not possible (or at least extremely expensive, as if this stadium's cost wasn't an outrage already). From what I know the construction of both end stands would have to be completely changed as the current roof and terraces themselves both lie on the same massive concrete pillars. Touching this would put Wisla in a position of plying in a building site for yet another decade. One is enough :)
Plus, you may always criticise so much more about this stadium :)
Cracovia November 6th, 2010, 04:54 AM If you knew about the architect you would be happy its standing at all still :)

Locke April 3rd, 2011, 08:51 PM Love it, shame this one isn't being used in Euro 2012, it has a bit of a British vibe to it but is quite unique from other stadia in Poland in it's angular boxy lines.
