as mentioned in previous posts PAL takes over Naga flights of airphilexpress (as well as all the other APX turboprop routes) effective APRIL 1,2011.

downside: rates will be more expensive. round trip will now be around PhP2,500.00, compared to promo rates offered by APX that are as low as PhP1,100.00, round trip.

GOODNEWS: Mabuhay Miles is back! Naga flights will earn miles (when they ceased to earn miles with the previous PR-APX codeshare agreement), beginning with 25% on the fiesta deal class (higher fare classifications earn 100% miles).

verified this with MabuhayMiles center yesterday.

I have just talked to Charisma (she came to my clinic) just few minutes ago, our travel agent here in Naga as I was getting a booking for me and my family for LA on April 12. We decided to fly PAL in favor of Northwest/Delta as my son's Yaya would not be able to go with as since she is 6 months pregnant. Her substitute does not have a US visa yet. We need to fly direct without stop- over.

She confirmed that indeed- PAL would be taking over all turbo props flights of AirPhil Express.

This was apparently done to ensure financial viability of smaller planes, with less passengers- paying higher fares.

So that would be goodbye to lower fares and the goodbye4 times weekly Naga- Cebu routes this year.:ohno:

Not only that, by allowing APX to operate an all airbus fleet, this will streamline and make their operations
more cost effective. As you know, they have a lot of catching up to do with 5j. By the way, lovely pics of ,Naga Airport, perhaps the only airport with commercial flights where you check-in at lower level, then board and depart on the upper level - without using the tube. I thought Baguio has the same scenario but they don't have commercial flights at this point , so I would say Naga is unique!

dios marhay na aga saimo, rodel- good morning! it's turboprop for WNP- Q400 which seats only around 70ish. WNP has a short runway; thus can't cater to A320. PAL and then Air Philippines used to fly a smaller jet, a 119-seater.

the present 2P/PR's Q4 is quite efficient. can fly MNLWNP/ vv in 30mins.

if PAL is sincere enough to fight with 5J, it should let APX deal w/ the destinations 2P is having now. No need to rehash and transfer to PAL. PAL should concentrate more in int'l routes. Leave Domestic to 2P.

that's right, litigs! this is why i prefer 2P turbprops to 5J's. when 2P had early AM flights to naga, its sked was about 10-15 mins later than 5J but 2P would arrive earlier at times.

the early morning flight of 2P in naga might resume this summer, the naga 2P office says (at the moment, 2P leaves MNL for WNP around 8:30am while 5J leaves around 6:40am). 5J resumes its 3rd flight in WNP on April 1, flying out of WNP at 5:30PM.

two late PM flights then out of WNP- 2P at 4:40PM.

Thats why these turboprops are so efficient because they can fly close to speed of older regional jets and at 30% less operating cost.

Cebu Pacific to Increase Manila - Naga Flights
Cebu Pacific is to increase the number of flights between Manila and Naga to four times daily starting 14 October 2011.

The airline currently operates a thrice daily ATR 72-500 service from Manila to Naga and vice versa.

The additional daily ATR 72-500 flight is set to depart Manila at 06:40 and arrive in Naga at 07:35. The extra return flight will depart Naga at 07:55 and arrive in Manila at 08:50.

Aside from Naga, CEB flies operates a thrice daily Airbus service from Manila to Legazpi, and a thrice weekly ATR 72-500 service from Cebu to Legazpi. It also flies four times weekly from Manila to Virac.

“CEB hopes to serve more passengers going to Camarines Sur (Naga) with our additional flights. This is a popular destination in the country, and we hope to give more opportunities for guests to experience its world-class events,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution, Candice Iyog.

IronMan 70.3 Philippines this coming 14 August 2011, and the 22nd Philippine Advertising Congress on 16-19 November 2011, are just some of the big events in Camarines Sur.

“CEB added Manila-Naga-Manila flights on August 12 and 15 for the IronMan event, and on November 16 and 20 for the Advertising Congress. We remain supportive of Camarines Sur’s efforts in stimulating trade and tourism to the province,” Iyog said.

CEB currently operates 10 Airbus A319, 15 Airbus A320 and 8 ATR-72 500 aircraft. By the end of 2011, CEB will be operating a fleet of 37 aircraft – with an average age of less than 3.5 years – one of the most modern aircraft fleets in the world. Between 2012 and 2021, Cebu Pacific will take delivery of 23 Airbus A320 and 30 Airbus A321neo aircraft orders, and 2 Airbus A320 aircraft on operating lease agreements. http://www.asiatraveltips.com/news11/88-CebuPacific.shtml

Understand Naga can only accommodate turboprops these days so I'm just curios how many aircraft stands does it have in the apron. Photos above shows the ATR parked parallel to the terminal but then there's also a slot in front of it, looks unique to me. Also my first time to see a huge rectangular white marking normally reserved for the runway as aiming point marker; so what's this doing at the tarmac?

Any upgrade of airports are all possible, otherwise they shouldnt be there in the first place. Whats really hampering the improvement is all politics or will power of government officials. No need to be technical about it, with philippine politics anything is possible...or strangely not possible.

This is just a desperate fantasy of mine, since most funds of dotc for bicol has all been directed to BIA or SLIA whatever, why not solicit fund from naguenios living in USA, I believed thats where mayor Bongat just came from. May seem far fetch...but who knows.

According to Google Maps, the PNR South Main Line is located pretty close to the airport. Would a direct train service between Naga and the airport make sense if there would be money for a spur line from the main line towards the airport?
