Rusenski Lom

Nature Park of Rusenski Lom is one of the ten nature parks of Bulgaria. It is situted along the canyon type valley of Rusenski Lom River - the last right feeder of the Danube. The Park has been announced protected area in 1970 and embraces a territory of 3408 hectares. The Park is recognized as an interesting and precious site of high aesthetic value preserving beautiful riverside terraces, meanders, high vertical rocks, areas of rich variety of species, caves, rock formations, historical monuments of national and international significance. The Park satisfies people's recreation needs and gives an opportunity for scientific and exploration activities.

On the territory of the park there are a number of beautiful villages, rock churches and monasteries (one of them are in the UNESCO world heritage list), one of the most beautiful caves in Bulgaria and the beautiful old medieval fortress of Cherven.

Due to its natural park status, touristic development is very limited in its core parts, however in the peripheral parts it's developing fast. In the villages in the park territory, no new buildings are allowed - you can build ones only on the place of old ones.

Basarbovo, practically something like a Ruse suburban district. It has a nice and very well preserved rock monastery, one of the few still functioning:

The village of Pisanec, its kinda out of focus but still a great place to visit. It has a very high bridge used by locals for bungee jumps :)

I just such places need a lot of advertising.

A few months ago I visited Meteora in Greece. Believe me, the monsteries there look quite new and "updated":lol:. Yes, the place is unique and by the time of their construction, doing this was a great achievement of engineering. However, the Bulgarian monasteries are much more authentic and preserved. We have much more to offer and what we need is advertising.

And these rocky monasteries and churches - they are incredible.
