The memorial park was nothing but a big rock the height of wtc 7, why would you want that?:? The freedom tower is Beautiful and 4 years after it's finsished i'm sure a lot of people that hate it will love it:D

^^ I believe that once the entire World Trade Center complex (along with other related projects) are complete, everyone shall see the new vision of Lower Manhattan come to life. :)

Freedom Tower is very pleasing to the eye but some people might still miss the old skyline.... looking toward the brooklyn bridge and seeing the twin towers. Hopefully people will grow to love the new World Trade Center Complex just like they did to the old WTC

I believe it is a matter of time.
The entire complex, along with surrounding developments all combined will create a new enhancement to the skyline.
No matter where the view, every single tower will contribute, in their own unique ways a better, more vibrant Lower Manhattan.

why such a stupid comparison?(always comparing shit to other countries...)
Both of them look nice, similar, but how could you say which one is better?

It's not about the countries, but the designs of the towers.
For example, on its own, the Shanghai tower looks awesome, but as a complex comprising all developments, the Freedom Tower has a much more substantial presence.

So was I.
But Lewis Epstein was too stubborn to quit leading his group down the wrong path.
Many of us deflected and formed our own opinions.
I think the new Freedom Tower looks like shit so by default my vote goes to the Shanghai building.
Pathetic excuse!

^^ NewYorkForever2016, I know you loved the original twin towers as much as everyone did, probably more since you have it as your iconic badge (avatar)!
Just glad to see someone with an opinion that makes sense!

Let me expand on my original sentiments although most may not agree with me.
I don't want the twin towers back for their architectural merit per se but the fact that they were a symbol of American economic might. The twin towers were grey, domineering, and imposing. It gave that image of "hey we're America the richest nation on earth you cocksuckers".
Then after the tragedy of 9/11 I immediately started wincing when these new artsy-fartsy proposals started coming in for the WTC site. Oooh it's 1776 feet tall. Oooh the sun will reflect inside on 9/11 at the exact moment when the first plane hit. LAME ASS BULLSHIT.
I first responded in haste but looking at the renderings again, the Freedom Tower just does nothing for me. It would probably look good in Las Vegas but for being on the WTC site it just doesn't move me. Fuck at least that Shanghai building has a distinct look with that box on top.
Anyways I'd love to debate this further but I'm getting ready to get the fuck outta here for the weekend. Happy Labor Day everybody!

^^ The Freedom Tower by itself looks uninspiring (it cheats to get to the height with a spire), but as a unified complex comprising supertalls, it looks outstanding (not imposing in the way the Twin Towers did).
I support the idea of more towers of various heights versus identical twins, but would have preferred for a more substantial height of 2,001 feet to show respect for the year of the attack of the original Twin Towers.

Even the Shanghai WFC will soon be trumped by a taller building nearby....making a supertall grouping like the WTC complex.

PS.....the trouble with making a building a signficant height in 'Feet' doesn't concider the likelyhood of imperial measurements to be obsolete in the future....years ago we erected a 150ft plagpole for our 150th birthday but now have metric system so people don't see the height as a figure of note.

I'm not, i just think what they are doing is "CHEAP" looking. They could have done better, especially with this project.
It looks somewhat like the Bank of America building.....
Will the building have a tourist view at the top?

Its like if you hate this building and i dont, its simple enough....its not your taste.
and Yes...i think its ugly.

Like you said, by itself, it's not very interesting, but as a part of the complex of surrounding super talls, it looks great!

A building is like an art piece... you can like it or not...
In my humble opinion SWFC is like a beautiful Dali painting, FT is like a Picasso, which I don't particulary like... Both are masterpieces, but it depend on us if we like them or not...

Well if you mean the observation deck, there isn't a plan for one outside but there is going to be one on the 102nd floor.

This thread here is irelevant.
Of course In a New York Thread, FT will win, just like in Shanghai thread SWFC would. (be sure a Russia Tower vs Chicao Spire on the russian forum, most people would choose RT)
How many people from asia really visit this thread. I guess a lot of the votes colected by SWFC are actually americans anti new WTC design.
As an European, SWFC get my vote.
WTC is a box with a spike on top (BoA Tower have a much more complex and original design). SWFC is an interestig design, and that hole make-it very unique.
Both towers look good.

I am a fan of both towers but I have to say in regards to the individual towers, the sheer elegance of SWFC wins it for me.
Although as a complex, this image is particularly impressive:

I used to love the SWFC but now that it is finished I find it a little underwhelming. Going to have to go with WTC1. I'm hoping the crown pans out as well as it looks in the renders. The antenna on the original was always one of my favorites.
