Capital Tower
Singapore, Singapore
HEIGHT: 254m/833 feet
FLOORS: 52 floors
COMPLETION: 2000
ARCHITECT: RSP Architects Planners & Engineers
Capital Tower was christened tonight just days after receiving one of the most prestigious prizes in local construction. Last Friday, Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) awarded the building with a "Best Buildable Design Award", and acknowledged Capital Tower as the "newest landmark in Singapore".
BCA also described Capital Tower and its building’s penthouse as a "well-known beacon on Singapore’s night skyline". The 52-storey building is the flagship and headquarters of CapitaLand, Southeast Asia’s largest listed property developer.
Located in the city-state’s financial district, Capital Tower is "home" to anchor tenants Government Investment Corporation (GIC) and JP Morgan Chase, as well as new economy titan Cisco Systems.
Capital Tower is the first of a new generation of wireless intelligent buildings and the first office building in Singapore outfitted to provide wireless local area network (LAN). Other intelligent features include screens in high-speed lifts providing live news and stock market updates, state-of-the-art carpark guidance system and a fully-integrated intelligent building management system.
More than 250 guests witnessed the launch celebrations this evening under a see-through marquee set up on the Urban Plaza in front of Capital Tower. The event was graced by Mr Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development. Guests were invited on a tour of the building and its facilities to experience first hand the vibrant "living communities" inside Capital Tower: a variety of retail and F&B outlets are offered inside, including Starbucks Coffee, Angie The Choice, Galerie Belvedere, Capital Garden Exchange, Hibiscus Florist, Kodak Photo Processing, Raffles Medical Clinic and a hair salon. The Spa located on the ninth floor offers spa packages and facilities including a gymnasium and a heated swimming pool. On the 52nd floor, the exclusive China Club Singapore will offer a premier dining experience to members as they enjoy the panoramic view offered by the surrounding 16-metre tall glass panels.

I didnt notice this building until I passed by it at 3 am. The city was dark but its colourful lighting was still turned on. The cool thing is that the colours at the top and the name change colour gradually every 10 seconds.
Been inside it..love the SMELL of new airconditioning!
2 shots I took showing the changing colours:

6.5/10 - this is, to me at least, an odd building - I like the handling of the glass and stone on the facade, which gives it a nice, sleek feel, and the tower has good, soaring height. But the way the tower curves is, to my eyes, anything but graceful, and the top section doesnt seem to fit with the rest of the building, as if it were an afterthought. I wonder how much tradtional Chinese or Asian forms have influenced this tower, though? The - what do you call it in this case - finial? crown? (it sure ain't a spire) - top, or whatever, looks a little bit like a Chinese house to me (am I correct here?), for instance. And this might say something about a bit of provincialism on my part, and the need to look at different architectural styles on their own terms.
Nice lighting at night, in any case.

I find it a little over-reaching as a whole, while each of it's parts work on their own. It's tough to see it as a unified building because so much is going on.
It's as if they had seperate design teams work on various sections w/o conferring with eachother and then pieced them together. One thing is for sure, it's unique!:D

Yup..it is occupied by the China Club..another exclusive outfit.

I'm glad I didn't get to visit Singapore until 2000. That way,
I was able to see Capital Tower in person. This is my
favorite high rise in Singapore, by far. I love how all the
different exteriors mix together. What an innovative building.
Also love the way the top changes color at night.
One of the best towers in the world.

it's weird and ugly and doesn't deserve the 6 that i gave it, except for at night time, you might give it about 7.5
But it's only 250 odd mmetres, which is nothing spectacular, and it is ugly as sin in the daylight. looks like it was designed by a 12 year old kid.

A lot is going on there, but it adds up to a pretty nice tower, if they went a little overboard on the design. Very futuristic looking, but so is everything else in singapore so it doesnt add that much to the skyline. Still a decent building.

On the negative side, it's fat and bulky, and the design looks a bit overdone - too many unnecessary lines, setbacks and other bits sticking out (including the top). On the plus side, it has a really nice smooth facade when seen up close, the curved shape isn't all that bad, and the lighting is very nice at night.

Wow, it's different. I appreciate its basic form but get distracted by all the extras. This could easily be a 10 IMO if a cpl things were different. I'd like to see it all black (or at least dark) and have the stone taken out from the facade along the sides leaving the mixed facade only on the front and back. Who's bright idea was it to include that horrible setback 2/3 the way up? I like the top and pretty much everything else about this scraper. This one could rock if they just didnt try so hard.

Usually I don't like ultra-modern towers, but this one really speaks to me:) Unusual to say the least, perhaps groundbreaking. Beautifully and tastefully lit at night!

The tower is a visual resemblance to the spire of a nearby Hindu temple. I took this in March, 2001:

myx, after reading your ratings so many times, I must say that you don't have a clue about what constitutes fine architecture and how to rate buildings consistently. you've got a pretty bad taste when it comes to buildings. no offense intended. I just think that you're embarrassing yourself with your ratings.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Facial,
I hope you're being facetious. or I'd think that you're talking about your "facial" instead of the building. hey about that good lighting thing, are the Sun, the clouds and the street lights particularly fond of this building?

aside from the top of the building......which imo does not relate very well to the rest of the tower, i think that it's great. but because of the top i'm deducting a couple of points. 6.5

It's allowed but not accurately reflected. -8 is the same as 3 or below.
-10 (negative 10) / 10.
