SarafIndian August 25th, 2008, 06:33 AM you live in Australia? cool photos
Sydney looks crowded and dense.
Yes kolkatausa. Currently I am in Sydney. I am with 4-yrs working visa. Working with an Indian software company for an Australian client.
Unlike other Aussie cities, it is dense, crowded. Though Melbourne is bit similar in terms of population, size but different from infrastructure perspective. Some example - Sydney has BRTS, Melbourne has not. Melbourne has tram but Sydney doesn’t (I heard they removed). I feel Melbourne(whole Victoria state) has better roads than Sydney(whole NSW state). Though Sydney rocks.
Cool images, Saraf:)
Thanks Man

OOPS! Whats this man...Is there some Carnival going on in Bondi Beach? or is it always like this???
 No, not in winter. But during summer (oct->mar) it is always like that(at least the wkends). Here people are just crazy about this beach.
ImBoredNow August 29th, 2008, 08:17 PM Tell the Aussies to look out for the UV rays.
One of the worst places to sunbath is Australia, because of the big hole on the O-Zone layer there.
Believe it or not some people sunbath everyday, even here in the states.
Looking at the beach picture, I can tell Australia gets really hot in the summer.
Sweet Pics though.
SarafIndian October 2nd, 2008, 07:52 AM From my last Melbourne trip. A city circle tram. Tramway system of Melbourne is just similar to Kolkata. Well, at least they look same :shifty:. I heard same British company set up both the system. Trams are very popular mode of public transport in Melbourne. And Melbourne probably has one of the best and most extensive tramway system in the world.

True. There is some public awareness campaign too. But they don't care actually.

Thanks Arijeet. This is my 2nd time trip to Bhutan. 1st time I was a kid. Bhutan is such a safe and peaceful country. It has a great economic potential. They are building awesome infrastructure through out the country by building many hydro power, excellent roads, hospitals, schools, colleges etc. Bhutan has excellent road connectivity. Healthcare and education are completely free in Bhutan. Govt even provides complete free treatment to its citizens to India and abroad for critical medical cases. Almost every Bhutanese speak English, Hindi and in many cases Bengali besides their own languages; yes, almost everyone from Kids to local cab driver. People are so friendly and helpful. I am proud that my country and my state share border with such a beautiful country.

Thanks a lot IU. That will be great if this thread helps your colleague. If any further information is required then PM me anytime. I was there for almost 19 days. I got "Darjeeling mail" from Sealdah to NJP(Siliguri). Then I took a private car to Jaigaon, Phontsholing(4 hours). Jaigaon is in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal but Phontsholing is a town in Bhutan. Well, Jaigaon and Phontsholing are actually you can say same town but spreading over two separate countries. Then I took a private taxi(Mahindra Bolero) from Phontsholing to Paro(3-5 hours depending on the waiting time in the middle because 4 laning work of these stretch going on). It’s a beautiful and adventures journey. I took flight from Paro to Kolkata while coming back(1 hour).

Thanks sidney. Last friday, satday I was there. A very nice place. Unlike digha, Mandarmoni hotels are expensive so there were not many people around. Heard that last saturday Digha had more than a lakh tourists ..
Regarding the photo, I have taken it around 4:30 pm. No post processing was done here, the brilliant weather and perfect sunlight make it nice. I have captured the below fishing boat at the same time..

thats freaking gorgeous.
I like that your snaps are a little underexposed.
the way I like them.
Just one thing though.
If you would make the border a little uniform it would make it more appealing

Last weekend we been through a crazy 2400 miles 4 days drive through the wilderness of California, Utah, Neveda and Arizona. Took few photos, will keep posting..
Nikon d300s, 50mm, Nikon polarizer
Entering Zion national Park..
This whole place is famous for its red color rock and red soil (not beacuse communists but because of the iron and "chemical locha" in the soil). So don't blame me if you guys feel angry seeing red every time..
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv214/SarafIndian3/DSC_1253.jpg
Red visitor center with little green.
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv214/SarafIndian3/DSC_1261.jpg
Tried to make less red and more blue(though I like more red). Low temperature white balance is the key..
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv214/SarafIndian3/DSC_1280.jpg
A little cute white cloud caught my attention. It was farther left side and was slowly moving towards right by the wind. I waited almost 10 min to capture it with the Red mountain peak to make the boring Red a bit interesting..
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv214/SarafIndian3/DSC_1290.jpg
Hope you guys will enjoy the show. :)

Zion National Park, Utah contd..
A big Red mountain through a tree. You have to focus the mountain and not the tree.
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv214/SarafIndian3/DSC_1294.jpg
A waterfall. This is the best shot I got of the "famous" waterfall :shifty:
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv214/SarafIndian3/DSC_1300.jpg
I found the lines craeted by the tree interesting(below photos). Sunset time. Ok, now some technical blah blah. This is very interesting how auto White Balance works...
In this photo I was a bit right where the Red mountain is less visible so the camera programs automatically set the WB to a lower temperature.
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv214/SarafIndian3/DSC_1303.jpg
Now I moved a bit left where the mountain red color is more visible and the camera set the WB to a relatively higher temperature automatically..
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv214/SarafIndian3/DSC_1305.jpg
Taken just after sunset. There was not enough light. Key: use your little camera flash

Interesting.. I wonder how film photographers control white balance in photos. Must be something to do with the type of film they use and the type of chemical used in post processing. In digital its so easy.

The day we headed to Arches National Park, the weather was crap. It was cloudy the sky was blank white. :ohno:
Entering Arches national Park, Utah..
Key to take this photo: You are in the middle of the road. So watch your back.

SarafIndian May 6th, 2011, 07:32 AM Nice pics there Saraf  Do you do post-processing of all the pics?
Thanks Nandan.
Yes, sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't. If I like a particular photo but feel that the photo lacks enough contrast, over exposed, under exposed etc then I do. Though I use very basic photo editing tools in photoshop or apple aperture 3. I mostly use:
1. Brightness/Contrast
2. Color Balance
4. Curves
5. Hue/Saturation
6. Channel Mixer(To make b/w)
As an example: In ref to the first pic of my prev post, I am posting the original jpg straight out(size reduced) of the camera:
http://i685.photobucket.com/albums/vv214/SarafIndian3/DSC_1392_1.jpg
I felt that the sky which is very important here was too white/blank. So I just used a simple curve control to make the whole thing a bit more dark. Which makes the overall photo dark but also makes the sky meaningful. Also, curve control creates red more red, green more green etc..
brilliant pics yet again Saraf
Thanks Sid..
Nice pics Saraf. How was the temperature like?
Simple, a photo is "warm" means it is more red/yellow. And a photo is "cool" means it is more blue/violet.
In physics perspective there is vast difference of frequencies between a red color and a violet color lights (electromagnetic signals). Anyway, I kept the camera White Balance to Auto bacaues I knew the subjects(prev post) are mostly Red so camera will automatically sets the WB to a warmer color. Most cheapest digital camera has WB control.
