Samrat January 2nd, 2009, 09:15 PM The Financial Express dated 01.01.2009
Kolkata: Riverbank Developers Pvt Ltd and Hiland are going to come up with a marina business-cum-leisure hotel and service apartments on the bank of river Hooghly at Batanagar by 2013.
Marina is a small harbour for small boats that are used for leisure. Sumit Dabriwala, managing director of Hiland, said single and twin engine boats, outboard motors and yachts will be parked and used for rides. There will be space for parking around 25 boats, he said.
Riverbank Developers has made a management contract with International Hotels Group, one of the world's largest hotel groups, for technical and management services.
"Around Rs 175 crore will be spent for constructing the hotel named Crown Plaza Hotels & Resorts. It would have 200 rooms and 75 service apartments and would be built on four acre," said Dabriwala.
Construction for the proposed hotel is slated to begin from next year, he said.
"The deal with the International Hotels Group is for 15 years after which it can be renewed. They would be providing technical and management services to Crown Plaza Hotels & Resorts," Dabriwala told reporters.
Riverbank Developers is under the United Credit Belani Group, which is a Kolkata-based company dealing in real estate.
The hotel is a part of the 15 million sqft Calcutta Riverside Project (a Bata and Hiland joint venture), which is an integrated township at Batanagar including residential complexes, malls, IT SEZ, golf courses, lakes apart from the hotel.
"The total cost of construction of the township would be around Rs 3,000 crore," Dabriwala said.
"In the first phase by 2011, we would be completing three residential complexes, first block of IT SEZ and employee housing for Bata," he said.

arijeetb March 13th, 2009, 08:16 PM A sports club by the river (http://www.telegraphindia.com/1090313/jsp/calcutta/story_10631540.jsp)
A 100,000sq ft sports club coming up on the Hooghly, a 20-minute drive from Taratala, is set to raise the clubbing bar.
The Rs 30-crore Calcutta Riverside Club, expected to be ready by 2011, is part of the 262-acre Calcutta Riverside integrated township in Batanagar and will apparently be the “largest composite private sports club in the country”. It will also be the only such facility attached to a golf course and a landscaped marina with docking and servicing facility for private boats and yachts.
“The club will of course boast an internationally benchmarked design and state-of-the-art features. But what will set it apart is that it’ll sit next to a five-star hotel, a nine-hole executive golf course with a driving range and a riverfront promenade,” says Sumit Dabriwala, the managing director of Riverbank Developers, the company developing the township.
Facilities will include a fully equipped gymnasium, library, theatre, two swimming pools, synthetic tennis courts, conference rooms, children’s play area, a bar and a health spa. It will also have bar games, darts, pool, squash, table tennis and badminton.
The club’s design is developed “to obtain dynamic spaces within the building”. Each level is connected visually providing a panoramic view of activities on other floors. The adjacent 9-hole, 1,785-yard, par-3 executive golf course is spread over 28 acres, with a clubhouse.
The developers are planning to tie up with coaches and sports personalities to operate coaching clinics for budding talent. “A sports club of this magnitude is a great idea to popularise sports among kids, many of whom are hooked to TV or video games,” says former Indian Davis Cup coach Akhtar Ali.
The marina will have jogging tracks, landscaped lawns, elaborately designed street furniture and light fixtures reminiscent of the cast-iron work of old Calcutta. To accentuate the river experience, F&B outlets, signature shops and galleries with a direct river view would come up on the promenade.

Kolkata riverside project on schedule: Realtor
Kolkata, Nov 6 : Realty firm Riverbank Developers, which is developing a 262-acre integrated township project along the Hooghly river in joint venture with Bata India, Friday said a detailed plan to upgrade social infrastructure in the area has been prepared.
"A comprehensive development plan to upgrade the overall infrastructure for Mahestala area has been prepared by urban planning institute CEPT University of Ahmedabad," Riverbank managing director Sumit Dabriwal said.
The statement comes after the West Bengal government raised doubts about the developmental works promised by Riverbank, which is investing Rs.3,000 crore for constructing the Calcutta Riverside township project.
Abdur Rezzak Mollah, the state's land and land reforms minister, had recently asked the company to spell out the steps it had taken to create social and public utility infrastructure.
"The company was supposed to construct roads, a hospital and a school on 89 acres as part of the township project. But we got reports they are not doing much in this regard. That is why I have sought information," Mollah told reporters recently.

Dear members, in their website, it is said that the residensial towers will be upto 125 meters tall. That means they will be taller than South City towers(109 meters tall, 35 floors). So, it can be guessed that the towers will be of 40 floors or above. What do you think??........

studdmanster February 26th, 2010, 01:32 PM ^^if we go by cnversn rates then 1 foot = 0.3048 m
so 1 floor = 3.048m
125m= 41 floors (aprox)
Samrat February 26th, 2010, 02:05 PM The height of the building depends upon the floor height and the number of the floors it has and it varies from building to building. It is not necessary that a building having lesser number of flloor is lower in height than the one having more floors.
for instance the North Star in Bangalore(30 flloor) is tallerer than the Choice Paradise(40 floors) in Kochi.
Normally floor height is more or less 10 feet but sometimes it may be 12, 13 or even 14 feet.
The tallest apartment building in Batanagar in question will be around 30 - 32 floors and not 40 floors:)
