The project was expected to cut through the varsity campus and pass through the new segment of Outer Ring Road extending from Nayandahalli junction. A senior official from the Bangalore Airport Rail Link (BARL) Ltd, the nodal agency for implementing the LRT project, said as per the detailed project report (DPR) being prepared, there was a suggestion to take the 31.3-km long LRT corridor between JP Nagar and Hebbal, through the Jnanabharthi campus. “However, we have decided to realign it through the new ORR, as a corridor through the campus will result in cutting of lot of trees,” the official said. C Jayaram, Director (Projects), BARL, confirmed that LRT won’t cut through the campus. He said the revised alignment extends from Nayandahalli junction to Nagarabhavi Circle and then towards Ambedkar College to reach the old ORR. The DPR for the project is expected to be ready by November, which will be submitted to the State government. LRT is proposed to be implemented for a total distance of 41.3 km in two corridors - from JP Nagar to Hebbal (31.3 km) and from Toll Gate on Magadi Road up to proposed Peripheral Ring Road (10 km) on Magadi Road. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 6,400 crore. An official from BARL said the alignment of LRT was in tune with the Comprehensive Traffic and Transportation Plan. The LRT intersects the Metro corridor and other mass rapid systems for better connectivity. Also, the LRT network was drawn up after a detailed analysis of the Comprehensive Development Plan 2015, traffic density and a field survey, he added. Once the LRT becomes a reality, the Nayandahalli junction will witness a infrastructure loop of its own with a convergence of multi-modal transport systems. The junction as of now has a railway line passing nearby and two flyovers next to it. A metro station is coming up at Nayandahalli as part of the Reach-2 corridor (Leprosy Hospital to Kengeri). The BARL officials said the LRT will intersect the Namma Metro at Nayandahalli station before proceeding further. “We believe the Nayandahalli junction will be a junction of possibilities in future and it will look more beautiful than the Hebbal flyover loop along Bellary Road,” said an official. source:http://www.deccanherald.com/content/285676/lrt-alignment-bypass-bangalore-varsity.html Ashwin R October 17th, 2012, 04:11 PM ^^ I feel metro would be more suitable for the JP Nagar-Hebbal route. Lots of people will be travelling along several stretches along that route in the future. With monorail, there will be lesser people per train which will run at a lesser speed. Also, there are not sharp turns (from JP Nagar to tumkur road atleast) for which monorail is essential. However, if at all metro comes in that route, the PLANNING will probably start by only 2020 or so in phase 3. On the other hand, monorail would have been completed by then, even if the approval comes by 2014. So there will be a mode of transport by 2020. Interesting to note that the Bannerghatta road route is not mentioned in the article. Perhaps it is scrapped off, rightly so!! strike2 October 17th, 2012, 05:39 PM ^^ Its not monorail..its LRT which is kind of like metro itself but has lesser carrying capacity Good that Bangalore is getting differnt modes of transport- Metro,LRT,BRTS,commuter rail and lets not forget namma BMTC  Bubba_305 January 21st, 2013, 11:10 AM What the status of Mono/LRT? I saw soil testing being done for the JP nagar to Hebbal route near Jedi mara and in JP nagar... That was several months ago. No news regarding this... I get tensed if things go silent. Don't want to see another HSRL... Mahesh Nanjunda January 21st, 2013, 11:32 AM ^^ I don't think it will happen.. Bubba_305 January 25th, 2013, 10:48 AM http://i.imgur.com/Je6Sl1D.jpg This was posted on the Metro thread. It needs to be on this as well... Same as the previous post here, but, the map's bigger :) Mahesh Nanjunda January 25th, 2013, 11:30 AM ^^ All these projects are likely to remain on paper.. Cosmicbliss January 25th, 2013, 05:03 PM Yup. Bangalore monorail is like making Mumbai Shanghai :) sixsigma1978 January 26th, 2013, 01:49 AM "Moves to the next level" Translated : "Moves from never going to happen to almost unlikely it's going to ever happen" Cygnus-X1 January 26th, 2013, 05:40 AM I'm not sure why there is so much pessimism re. light rail for bangalore. No doubt it has been slow, but this was more to do with unstable govt, burden of heavy costs for metro, questions on VGF, consultancy reports /studies & selection of LRT system in preference to monorail for ORR /west bangalore. Another reason for slow progress could be uncertainty about system selection - if west bangalore might need higher capacity metro or not to take care of future demand. Let's wait & watch - I'm sure something will come about since west bangalore cannot be left hanging, & hope this come about sooner than later! Bubba_305 February 18th, 2013, 10:26 AM I don't understand the advantage of LRT at some of the places in the map. The stretch of road in JP nagar, from Jedi Mara (Bannerghatta Rd Jn) to Sarakki (Kanakpura Rd Jn) is quite busy and is a 4 lane road. There is no way they can built light rail there without cutting off the trees on the whole road. Also, what's the plan for the cross roads cutting through this? And you have puttenhalli underpass... Not enough space there either. How are they planning on building an LRT in this stretch? vasanthr February 18th, 2013, 02:31 PM Looking at Mumbai Monorail's Progress - Bangalore is too slow in deciding the system itself. We had the proposal much earlier than when Mumbai decided to go for Monorail. 8 km stretch is under trial runs and it will be operational by August. 500 per monorail train is a decent figure. Also if you look at the pictures, the curves the Monorail is taking is amazing. Wish we can have many such routes operating as feeders to Metro probably originating from most of the localities. Western half of Bangalore need more such feeder Monorails linking the Purple line. If we have light rail on the ORR on the western half, which is like a freeway, accessibility and last mile connectivity will be a main issue. TWK90 February 18th, 2013, 02:49 PM 500 per monorail train is a decent figure. Also if you look at the pictures, the curves the Monorail is taking is amazing. What monorail lacks in capacity (that's why it is more suitable for feeder routes), it makes up for its performance on curves. Back in my country (Malaysia), generally, the speed of monorail train on such tight curves are between 40 and 50 km/h. mreccentric April 11th, 2013, 12:26 PM When's the work of monorail going to start in Bangalore? Is it being sanctioned? If so, what are the areas covered? ssiguy2 April 13th, 2013, 07:57 AM What monorail lacks in capacity (that's why it is more suitable for feeder routes), it makes up for its performance on curves. Back in my country (Malaysia), generally, the speed of monorail train on such tight curves are between 40 and 50 km/h. A monorail can easily have the same capacity as any Metro/subway system. One line of the Sao Paulo system will have capacity of a whopping 48,0000 pphpd...........way more than most Metros in the world. It has to do with the length of the stations and not the technology. The Chonguin monorail which is only 6 years old is already carrying 450,000 passengers a day with another extension to open later this year. The single Tokyo line carries over 200,000 passengers a day. In fact it is LRT that has limits. LRT if automated can have the same level of service but the trains are thinner than Metro/subway or standard heavy monorail so it takes longer trains and hence stations to get the same capacity. mreccentric June 3rd, 2013, 08:08 AM wouldn't it be useful if they connect MRTS to Yelahanka rather than Hebbal? It will be useful to connect to BIAL. hemanth1987 June 3rd, 2013, 10:57 AM When's the work of monorail going to start in Bangalore? Is it being sanctioned? If so, what are the areas covered?
