nice, but another one that should be allowed to be a little taller for the area, but moreso it's the one across the road that is being stunted.

It's all a bit familiar with a 15-level wall continually stretching along, like the upper part of Goulburn St in Surry Hills (which I like BTW, but others may find mediocre as far as streetscapes go).

I agree Lancelot - the Bates Smart proposed opposite is just a big splodge - it should be well rendered but another one of those in Sydney that look more like a podium for a 60-level building.

Having said that, this one is my fave out of all the littlies proposed around town.

Is this student accommodation, or is it office space? It looks like an office building but I've been told by a friend at Bates Smart it is student accommodation (at least I think it is this building they were referring to).

Surprised. Thought that COS won't improve anything without sandstone cladded lobby <kidding>. This colour scheme reminds me of that wavy building near Euro Tower.

Demolition appears to be complete from this angle:

The signs on the hoarding have a domain name (urbanset.com.au) that isn't even registered.

I think it should read http://urbanest.com.au. They are a student accommodation company. Their website says this project will be open by December 2010.

They've just completed a similarly structurally uninspiring building, jazzed up with a paint job, in Southbank, Brisbane.

So the crane is for the UTS redevelopment, not 91 Quay St. 91 Quay St may still be at demolition/site prep stage?

Probably some sort of pre-fab fibre-cement composite panel? Maybe with an aluminium powder-coated cladding? Looks like it was probably already in its finished state when it arrived on site, just needed installation.

This building reminds me of the really ugly tower at Carlton Crest (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=54450197&postcount=83) in Brisbane, except with a much better facade. Seems to be a pretty impressive pace for construction too - gone from nothing to a 15st building which is two thirds clad in less then six months!!

Fabian
July 23rd, 2010, 12:25 AM
It is interesting to note how this type of facade has come back into fashion. The coloured panels next to the windows certainly approve the appeal and look of the building.

An architectural feature should have been examined because it would have topped off the building perfectly.
