crane should turn up anyday now
LanceDriver August 26th, 2008, 12:20 PM what's this one?
CULWULLA August 26th, 2008, 12:28 PM i havent a render yet. i have model pic somewhere.
LanceDriver August 26th, 2008, 12:32 PM well i'm glad it at least made 18 storeys for that area. no special place to protect around there other than the grand culture of the central station precinct.
CULWULLA August 26th, 2008, 11:35 PM ive only found a section of this tower.(Hokin Design are architects) -Developers-Eastview.
i knew it had only 1 basement but forgot about the car stacker which goes down 16m below grd. this will take a while to dig.
Also its a mixed use tower, having first few floors as office use.

CULWULLA August 27th, 2008, 07:27 AM model pic.
stands out in this part of town.

LanceDriver August 27th, 2008, 07:53 AM yeah, but it would stand out even better if combined with that grey number and the slither in between and allowed to go as high as those on the other side of the rail line. you would think that area would be prime for the standard 150m jobs we get considering that it's already overshadowed by the higher buildings up the hill like amex. i don't see any parks or special open space to the bottom left to the bottom right of that model, ie, where winter shadowing would fall. maybe we do need to protect sun access to the rail line though?
papervagina August 27th, 2008, 08:21 AM I guess the just want a gradual reduction in height, Lance. There are terraces just off to the bottom left of the picture and every dog's favourite, Harmony Park, just off to the bottom right.
CULWULLA August 27th, 2008, 12:01 PM the original DA rose abruptly from cnr heritage bldg. it was knocked back.
now it has setbacks and step ins near top . so it repects the wentworth house.
it has a 55m height limit, not 150m. it only has small amount of FSR.
fro August 28th, 2008, 12:52 PM Off topic I know, but what the f**k is ever going to happen to that dodgy car park just to the west of this site over the train line. Every few months more boarding/hoarding goes up around it to keep the thing standing. It's such a bloody eyesore.
LanceDriver August 28th, 2008, 01:05 PM ^ i wonder the same thing???
Cariad August 29th, 2008, 02:43 AM Yes me too. I thought there were plans to renovate it? Thinking of car parks too, I am happy there is a DA in to upgrade the Domain car park ... hoorah!
CULWULLA August 29th, 2008, 03:22 AM i once did a model for a 120m tower at its northern end. not sure what happned to proposal.
CULWULLA November 10th, 2008, 12:32 AM i go past everyday by train.
lots happening.
always trucks coming or going.
probably still digging the deep 16m hole for the carstacker.

LanceDriver November 20th, 2008, 04:13 AM I just walked past the site on my lunchtime stroll and took a few shots. It's still a very active excavation site but it's almost impossible to get a good shot through the hoardings, mess and plastic sheeting...

CULWULLA November 20th, 2008, 04:18 AM thanks. youlll probably see more from rear lane. the car stacker pit would have taken heaps to dig. all going well.
Brizer November 20th, 2008, 06:51 AM It's name appears to be "Eastview".
LanceDriver November 20th, 2008, 07:10 AM i think they are the developers (see post #5 - i googled "eastview surry hills" and post #5 was the top hit!)
Brizer November 20th, 2008, 08:53 AM Quite true! Tah.
CULWULLA November 20th, 2008, 11:14 PM but eastview would be a good name. thats its view looking over surry hills.
Brizer November 21st, 2008, 12:38 AM Exactly my assumption when i spotted the name.
CULWULLA December 18th, 2008, 04:47 AM http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3034/3116576543_c061611288_o.jpg
CULWULLA March 2nd, 2009, 03:31 AM that are still friggen digging the car stack pit!
always see trucks leave laneway with dirt
surely they must be close to base.?
papervagina March 30th, 2009, 10:24 AM I have no idea if this is the current design, but here's a render (at last!) I found on the Project Architecture web site (http://www.projectarchitecture.com.au/).
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k160/papervagina/65-Wentworth.jpg
CULWULLA March 30th, 2009, 01:59 PM i think its old design? see red model. totally dif. it had to have setbacks ect.
papervagina March 30th, 2009, 02:17 PM Yeah, I noticed that after I posted (and also noticed that you'd said the architects are Hokin Design). In any case, I like the windows in the render above - I guess they're an attempt to relate to the nearby warehouses.

No real sign of action???
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/3552/dscf2225u.jpg
papervagina August 2nd, 2009, 12:05 PM Yeah, there only seem to be workers on site a few days a month; it almost seems like they're building it in their spare time. Weird.
papervagina August 3rd, 2009, 01:38 PM Here's a recent photo of the site by cardigan lane on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cardiganlane/3783975553/
There were actually workers on the site today, too!
CULWULLA August 27th, 2009, 05:44 AM the small bulldozer was stcuk in 1metre thick mud. so had to hire the black crane to retrieve. the 6storey deep car stack shaft is complete. i guess core shaft will have to start soon
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2422/3861218780_12e38106df_b.jpg
Cariad August 27th, 2009, 06:39 AM So what is being built? Is there a render?
CULWULLA August 27th, 2009, 01:16 PM still no render, just elevation and model.
Marco Polo August 27th, 2009, 03:55 PM good news though!!
lowey August 29th, 2009, 12:55 AM the small bulldozer was stcuk in 1metre thick mud. so had to hire the black crane to retrieve. the 6storey deep car stack shaft is complete. i guess core shaft will have to start soon

papervagina February 15th, 2010, 01:09 PM I have no idea about any progress (I no longer work in the area), but the agenda for Wednesday's Traffic Committee meeting includes an application for a works zone for this one. Could it be that they actually plan to do some construction?!
CULWULLA February 15th, 2010, 11:25 PM yes, i saw a concrete truck there last week. slowly getting back into it after a few months sleep.
CULWULLA May 23rd, 2010, 11:40 PM TOWER CRANE WAS PUT UP OVER WEEKEND.
finally . slowest project ever.
Brizer May 23rd, 2010, 11:43 PM Maybe it's just infill sculpture.
CULWULLA May 23rd, 2010, 11:44 PM haha
ParraMan May 27th, 2010, 01:06 AM Wow! Looks amazing there's a crane at last.... or is it there just in case the bulldozer gets stuck in the mud again and lift it out??
This site is a bit of a joke. Looking forward to seeing what shall one day appear here
CULWULLA May 31st, 2010, 06:35 AM these guys were deep in arguing

CULWULLA May 31st, 2010, 11:41 AM lol
munckei May 31st, 2010, 01:56 PM I think something food related would have started this argument.

Brizer August 17th, 2010, 05:59 AM Level 1 already?! Perhaps they should have a good lie down for another month or four now after such an herculean effort.
(Warning: sarcasm alert!)
CULWULLA October 12th, 2010, 05:23 AM 4th floor done.

papervagina October 12th, 2010, 01:21 PM Nahas have a larger and slightly higher quality render of this masterpiece on their site (http://www.nahas.com.au/):
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k160/papervagina/65-WentworthAve-Sydney.jpg
Expected completion is October 2011 (!), so don't expect the pace to pick up any time soon...

archiphile October 17th, 2011, 12:42 PM Pretty good but a shame that the part facing elizabeth st consists primarily of a blank wall. Imagine how much better it would look facing central. I know its a council requirement but I think there should a hell of a lot more flexability with this rule. The onus should be on potential developers of the adjoining buildings (especially as they are heritage and ideally would not be demolished) to come up with a solution ie to build tall on the opposite side of the lot, allowing for space in between, which would also reduce the wall effect along wentworth ave.
CULWULLA November 10th, 2011, 05:46 AM turned out ok

Cariad November 10th, 2011, 06:07 AM Surely they are going to fix that drain pipe!?
Sky_Is_The_Limit November 10th, 2011, 07:43 AM Of all the buildings represented in the NSW forum that are U/C, approved or proposed, this is the definition of bland...
Cariad November 10th, 2011, 07:47 AM It been done on the cheap and has certainly taken it's time!
Brizer November 10th, 2011, 08:12 AM So long to achieve something so ordinary. Tsk tsk tsk!
Myron November 12th, 2011, 04:20 AM Surely something will be built on either side of it now?? A blank wall facing outwards is not a good look...
Mornnb November 12th, 2011, 07:47 AM Of all the buildings represented in the NSW forum that are U/C, approved or proposed, this is the definition of bland...
At least it's not offensively bad.
BuildBigger November 13th, 2011, 09:05 AM Maybe it's nice on the inside?

Acrow Prop January 29th, 2012, 09:01 AM God help anyone who bought off the plan on this development. I walk past this job everyday and that crane has not moved in months. Its been locked off facing N/E with the chains still on it. Hands down has to be one of the slowest projects in construction history.
papervagina January 29th, 2012, 12:11 PM I'm not sure there was ever an opportunity to buy off the plan - it was half finished (assuming they actually finish it) before we even found a render.
Acrow Prop February 17th, 2012, 01:06 PM Woo Hoo crane has been removed. Only 14 months to practical completion. Hahaha
walexx February 18th, 2012, 10:18 AM If you think thats slow take a look at the Woollies site in Wolli Creek that Nahas is doing. Its been 18months now and still no end in sight.
Ive seen supermarkets go up in just a few months, but 18months with still no end in site (although to be fair a new DA has gone in for the fitout which is holding things up), its just a joke.
Even with the waiting for the new DA approval for fitout and signage, they are only just starting work on the carpark. They could have finished that ages ago which would give the workmen who will complete the fitout somewhere to park.
I sincerely hope this building in Wentworth Ave turns out better then it looks. Some of Nahas's stuff looks really nice, its a pity when you see such boring stuff come a promising developer. As for that down pipe, no comment :(.
Acrow Prop February 18th, 2012, 02:16 PM I don't believe Nahas will be around much longer. Slow progressing projects and major union issues are a bad sign. Their Matraville job had a huge picket line two weeks ago and the Wentworth ave job was picketed last year. Along with Kell and Rigby it shows how cut-throat and competitive Sydney has become. Survival of the fittest.
Fabian February 19th, 2012, 04:00 AM Woo Hoo crane has been removed. Only 14 months to practical completion. Hahaha
I saw that too this week. :) Doesn't look too bad.
ParraMan February 19th, 2012, 11:22 PM The front of the building, especially the podium section, suits the surrounding buildings. The big blank walls are of course a shame but necessary considering requirements. It is disturbing however that there are no windows on the side of the building near the top where it steps in, surely you could do something different than another blank wall there!?
P.nix5 February 23rd, 2013, 06:36 PM Scaffolding up about six floors on Wentwoth Avenue side.
Don't believe it? Neither did I, so I double checked ! (PS crane went over a year ago !)
papervagina February 24th, 2013, 08:35 AM They've actually started marketing the commercial space, so at least something is happening. The apartments must be uninhabitable or something.
