Ive been up the sky tower a few years ago, it only cost $15 which is the same as a cheap good lunch in auckland

the view is amazing, across the harbour to the north shore and also down the length of auckland

auckland is an amazing city full of great energy nowhere else in nz can compare

I went up the Skytower not long after it opened in 1997 and thought it was great and very good value for money. The views were great and luckily the november weather was great. I would love to come back some time in the near future.

the height is not that amazingly tall, obviously to build any taller would mean a different much more expensive design

I only wish Id gone to the very top viewing deck not just the main deck

Have read some past comments claiming that the Auckland Sky Tower isn't high enough:nuts: ah hello the Sky Tower was built high up on a rise above the harbor, so it already had a + 100 feet so when looking at it from some distance away i.e. say looking at it from across the harbor it looks enormous plus adding to the effect the surrounding office buildings are alot shorter...so the thing completely dominates the Auckland skyline, true all cities have something that we can all moan about but Auckland's Sky Tower is quite magnificent. Go Auckland:banana:

Quite garish in design in my opinion. The concrete base and tower lacks the simplicity it would need to be considered elegant, and the decks at the top are not correctly proportioned. I also find the lighting at night to be over the top and kitsch.

That said, it is located where such towers work best, smack in downtown, and on a hill as well which gives it a height boost. At street level, it is really quite horrible, but this is also due to the empty building sites around it and rather poor architecture and clutter of that particular area and street.

I'm sure many people like the bungy jumping from it, but I somehow also find that bizzare for a downtown city area. It just doesn't fit in for me.

Overall all, I find it lacks class. But I also think it is a positive attribute to Auckland's skyline.

forget bungy jumping off it.. you can now go for a walk around the outer most ring... sure they give you a safety line...

but damn... i've been up many of the world's supertalls and towers... very few of them let you go outdoors up there... let alone walk around on a 2 ft wide platform with no railing some distance out from the actual building.
