And Centurion Gate is the first of its kind in the world? Right...

Anyway, Cape Gate is a nicely situated mall. I go there quite often as their movies are comfortable and cheap, haha. I'm glad they're adding to the surrounding area.

If anyone is wondering which mall it is...

A 'lol' doesn't turn a silly comment into a joke. Allow me to demonstrate:

South Africa will never be ready for the world cup :bash: lol

If it has no meaning why say it at all?

If my sarcasm meter is correct...the inside is far nicer.

Now now children, lets behave! :)

I know this isn't the place (or right place) for this, but I had a conversation with someone about the inability to see emotions in text - such as sarcasm, humour or even anger. And it seems like I have just been proven!

I don't mean to offend anyone, just I have been researching this quite alot! Who agrees with me? Great posts guys! :D

LOL^^

forgive and forget:)

Oh, and btw, mine was a question which lets a ':bash: lol' sound better.
Yours was a statement, thus the ':bash: lol' did not sound like a funny remark.

If you say so  Generally the ":bash:" is avoided when trying to sound funny. But hey, by all means let the misconceptions continue! I've got nothing to lose.

:)

We should quote this and show it to the 'Coronia in Berea' thread:D
This is how differences should be sorted out:)

I actually prefer Cape Gate to the other bigger malls. Its very accessible, wide aisles , not too big and easy to get around. However, I do not agree witht eh extensions. They should move to the downtown areas, and bring life back to the central nodes.

^^ I have no problem with decentralised development at all, as long as it does not occur to the detriment of the CBD (downtown) area. In Cape Town, this is not a worry, thus I'm all for developments in Century City, CapeGate, Claremont and TygerValley... city's of Cape Town's size need some decentralised zones to serve the populous over a wide area; Whilst keeping the CBD healthy, keeping this major business/entertainment/cultural centre intact.

Node expansion is a good thing IMO, because who wants a littered, overcrowded CBD?
But it should be balanced...

^^expansion is good but something like canalwalk is bad because its 2 close to the cbd and hence detracts from the cbd something like tygervalley is fine as its further out

I don't think Canal Walk is bad. A mall of that size could not be built any closer, simply due to space issues. The traffic etc. it would cause will also not do any good. It's not really detracting people from the CBD at all, as the V&A is there. Canal Walk appeals more to suburban residents than tourists.

^^ High Street Shopping should be the focal point of our CBD. Super-Regional Shopping Centres are NEVER built next to or in a CBD, yes... "space issues!" But, I think pushing for more high street shopping and maybe a cool, big department store in the Cape Town CBD eventually would be awesome.

I think the only 2 big malls build in a cbd, are the Golden Acre and Parow Centre (which has undergone a major facelift). The city does not need anymore big malls. We need to turn back to high street shopping, and I believe towns are being turned around.

I was trying to say it would be better it wasnt buit at all thereby encouraging residents to use the city center which could rather have been impovered. ie high street shopping revitalised, chainstores moving headquaters into the cbd and imediate surrounds, redevelopment of golden acre and similar as top grade retail space. ie making the cbd the place to shop instead of locating a huge "second cbd" in a location which for most suburban residents is the same distance as the current cbd and hence drawing people out of the cbd
