For me, my largest region would be around 750,000 people and the largest city is close to 450,000 people.

If I remember before I went off to Uni (I haven't played SC4 since cause ive been so busy with the girls down here in Portsmouth - they wanna rock, so I rock em :D) - this means my immense city construction and individual cities has come to a halt for a few months.

I think my region was up to around 2,500,000+, with.....
-Another city of around 950,000+ people
-1 city with around 750,000 people
-Another around 350,000 people
Another at 300,000 people
-Some other cities with a few hundred thousand others

All are in the green - no cheats - all were extremely hard and long to build (ie they wernt grided unless for say old North of England terraced housing - but thats hap hazard griding), tons of suburbs - My largest city infact still has a lot of space for the nature reserves and some little isolated villages huddling the small valleys :) If you make a city of character = you will succeed. Well anyways - im off - u probably wont see me post in this part of the forum for some time, I aint bught Rush Hour and probably never will - Girls are much nicer than SC4 :D especially in lace :P

However, my crown jewel is a city using the smallest template with 110,000 people. If that same density were used with the largest template it would have 1.76 million people.

Mine is done as realistically as possible. No cheats have been used.

The population of my region is 410 000 peoples and my larger city is 210 000 poeples with the smallest surface. It is without commercials and industries because they are in two cities at side. The population commercials of one of these cities is 51 000. The other city has 41 000 industries population. :D :) :colgate: :D :D :D

My larger city is 230000 and my largest region is like 930000 , my computer crashes (or go hyper slow ) when the city surpasses 210000

The speed of the computer teends to be the limiting factor to most cities. My computer is new (thank goodness for my love of SC4!) so I do not get too many problems.

Recently got my region up to 1.35 million. Largest city is only about 250k, though it also has about 275k of commercial and 60k of industrial.


Sim City still suffers from the same thing that it has always suffered from. The cities ALWAYS look way too vertical and "dense" for thier given populations. Something about the scaling has never been right.

Jasonhouse, I would have to agree. There is no way a city with 20,000 peolple can get a comercial tower that has 1,500 people working in it (huge for SC4). Though, all of that helps my ego! ;)

I got an industrial city (small map) up to 3,000 today with all poor people in slum housing! :D

well, i imported a bunch of cities into my new Kansas City region (which already had several large cities already) and raised it from about 100,000 people in the region to over 410,000 people in the region, while renaming Kansas City to Independence (i am working on surrounding the biggest region, then calling it Kansas City)

Ive got around 380,000 in my largest city, and around 750k in my largest region.

I alwasy get bored of my cities before I finish them so that 380k is far from finished. My computer loads, saves, and plays the game so slow that it is tough for me to get the urge to play to often. Simply takes to long to do so little.

MEga's now a little over 2 million (2,014,000.) the region's over 3 million.

I've been working on the same region since the day SC4 was out. Sometimes it's been a long time between I've played and other times I play very often. Lukaly I recently got a new computer and the game runs very smooth in the highest possible resulution (with all details on high), even in the largest cities.

My region is a modified version of the London region. I use money cheats cause I just want to get my cities as cool as possible. All that waiting and saving money is not for me:-)

Biggets city: Westside - 773.339
Region population - 3.494.160

I have 4 cities in my region but only one with population. It has 250 000 peoples on an average surface. 2 others cities have 50 000 of industry jobs. 1 other city has 150 000 of commercials jobs. :D

All the times that I go in my commercial city, I am certain to have a skyscraper of 5 000 jobs. I then have fun to change type of architecture to make has city with many skyscrapers of different arcitecture. :D

Congratulation

I decided the othe day to load up SC4 and toy with all my cities. I now have one with a population of over 1,000,000 cities then range from 300,000(I think theirs only one of them) and then it jumps to...) 500,000-900,000. All done on a terrain made by myself with lots of river, lakes, hills and valleys - thus meaning a grid pattern is not always the best option. This is done all with the orginal SC4 (cant be arsed to go and buy Rush Hour, when i can go and spend it on booze with da ladies :D), no money cheats or other cheats or mods. ALL in the green (leave the simulation running for 50 years and I can easily get 3,000,000 in the bank for each city (only one has financial difficulty and thats the one one 300,000 - gonna sort that one out at a later date). Public and private transportation is EXTENSIVE, I have a massive motorway network that winds its way through my cities (I have a major junction with around 6 motorways). The major junction connects my industrial heart city (has around 600,000 industrial jobs), my first city (Edge City) has the highest number of commercial jobs of around 550,000. All other cities have large centres to - but these two cities are true "hubs". I also have a pretty effective inter-regional rail network (I even have mainline rail termini).

I could probably boost my 1,000,000 city up to 1.5m (there is supprisingly a LOT of medium density housing still around)

So from 5.0m to 5.5m is a possiblity over this weekend :D

I got the region up to 6.3 million yesterday. One city with a population now of 1.6 million (its the Stansted & Dunmow city). Dimbleby is now totally commercialised - ie no residential or industrial - it has currently 2,020,000 jobs (I'm boosting that by creating the other cities surrounding it - so that region picture is totally out of date and could probably get that figure up to 5,000,000).

To get the large maps - you need to edit your config.bmp (there are tutorials on simtropolis I believe on doing this - cause i cant be arsed to go through it all :P) which should be in your region folder. My region config.bmp is totally blue. You can change your region into a line, or whatever you want into whatever dimensions (remember the bigger your regions and the bigger the city tiles - THE SLOWER IT WILL BE).

before Rush Hour, Mega required 4 large international airports...then it was just one, and now the city's grown to need one large and one busy small one.

OH NO - I dont have a clue why but, I got my region up to 6.89 million and pop - the whole game fucks up - you cant click on anything! Ive reinstalled, but all the regions come up as massive black blocks that cant be clicked on, the region population is now -6.89 million, its jrky as hell - graphic + audio option windows crash the program!!!!!

Nick_taylor and Meffy, oh boy! You guys got competition from me now! :D I'm still at 5.25 million in my region with the largest city at 830k but growing fast. Heh, so much for building upwards straight away then leaving massive gaps and eventually filling them. :D My region fits nicely into about 18 cities.

Heh, I tried to make a whole commercial office city a while ago. It only got as far as 700k commercial office jobs tho before I had to add ppl in nearby to liven up that area of downtown. Buildings deteriorated to some extent after adding all those jobs and no people nearby.

My region is up past 5.3 million now.

550k is pretty good for a city pop. You're definetely quite far above the average sized city that any person can make IMO. 2.5 million for a region is also very good, as most people usually don't pass 2 million, let alone 1.5 million.

Most of you guys got it easy with building on the terrain. I'm challenged by several factors. Limited land to build on, having to constantly reclaim land in order to make more space. The second challenge are the mountains and hills which are around the sides of the city and in the middle of the islands, making it challenging building infrastructure to the opposite side.

One of my cities is a planning disaster!Poorly planned roads ,very small city blocks.Another has alot of abandoned buildings.Would post photos in say 4 hours time or so.

My largest city is only about 190 000pop.The whole region has almost 500 000.I have almost 14 cities linked together ,but some still not yet developed.I've only made provisions for them ,like a central highway ,some avenues ,water supply ,and at one city ,an airport.

One of my cities is a beauty.A modern themed city ,with monorail service ,plenty of parks & gardens.The city is situated on an island and occupies 4 city grid squares.It is rather hard to develope a city in several parts.So far ,I've only developed 2 out of the 4 grid squares.

The region is pretty much the same as when you first brought the game ,Maxisland.I've flattened some hills ,raised a mountain and increased the land area.But the shape is still mostly unchanged.

Yes it's been a bit quiet here lately.

I've also had some problem running the game since I got a new graphic card but that's solved now with a re-installation.

Yes I several small/medium cities, only 4 of the largest cities (they hog resources when they get big)
I think that they grow better/faster because they work with my large cities to fufill a demand (like alot of poor or really rich people in one small area or alot of commercial) Also most of my large cities take forever to build now cause they hog up so much proccessing power (I actually started to "cheat" with the large cities to try and make sure they are always on a growing cycle but even that doesn't help much, they get demand but are still slow to grow)

Anyway Here are two of my small cities. These two are probably my biggest, they are kinda an experiment (all commercial and almost all residential) all my other small cities are zoned medium comm or residential ussually.

This is currently my largest city in my still pretty small region. It has a population of 276,200 res, and 41,500 commercial. I dont think its too bad considering the lack of space with all the water, and its not done yet. I think i'll call this one roughly complete if it ever hits 300,000. For those that care about cheating, there has been no cheating here. I still have like 15 subway stations that need to be hooked up when i save more money.

I have a city boardering this one, also with a lot of water, but should be considerably larger.

I've only been playing for like a week, only in the 'Fairview' region. My largest city is 75.150 people
My largest region is 229.537 people
My second largest city is somewhere around 67.000 people

I got Sim City first in this week, so i've just started. I've been playing non stop for 20 hours now, and got some cities, the biggest on 101 000. But remember i have got the game for 2 days...;)

Got one up to 180,000 or so. :)

My city largest is New Hambourg, in the same region of New Frankfurt. He has 630 000 pop. in a medium size city.:D

My city finally reached 1 million people. Off to 1.5 million now.

Those are all medium-sized cities though.

I now have a system of planning a medium city that garanties a +250.000 population and a lot of commercial. If i don't forget I will post a picture (am at work now) I have like 10 of them. 1 has like 10 level 8 commercial buildings
It takes me 30min to build an city another 30 min to place al the offerings and than 2 hours to reach the 200.000 mark. (With money cheats that is)

PS: all my cities have higher $$wealth than $wealth

But my F#cking problem is that a falt occurs when opening the big cities. It dusn't load the transprotation things like roads , subway and rails. And after 1 or 2 years (simcity years) the roads are loaded but the rail and subway not.
And in the meanwhile like 50% of my people leave the city................

Does someone have the same problem or knows how to fix it?

This is a little off the topic, but how do you make a lot of money in SC4? I can never make much...I always have to use the cheat.

you milk your populace for all their worth...

one way is to develop a lot of dirty or manufacturing industrial, then tax the hell out of them.

or do something similar with commercial $$, but not tax them so hard, or tax the residential population once it becomes large and you want to cut back on their costs and still grow your city.

oh, and by coal power from a neighbor...they get the pollution, you get the cheap electricity.

It depends how fast your computer is... I can have a medium city build in half a hour an then after 2hours have a population of +/-200.000.

(I do use cheats)

I only have a 1GHz processor but I have a 128 an 256 Mb RAMstick and a very good GForce4 MX 64MB videocard. At fasted my months fly by as seconds (with he small and medium cities that is). With my bigger cities (+650.000) the speed isn't constant, one minute its going verry fast and the other minute its slow again.

I think my biggest city is about 27,000 at the moment, but can any of you tell me any tips on how to get population up quicker and how to get a decent commercial area/downtown. My largest city in my last region got upto the point where the first high rise residential was built and the downtown was full of midrises, but then everywhere just started abandonibg to the point where almost half the city was a derelict hell hole!, but I dont know why it did this?

If you still have the city you should look in your transportation buget and check if you have any road maintenance costs. If not your tranportation lines aren't loaded properly.

At startup my Large cities transportation lines aren't loaded properly , only after 2 or 3 simyears does the loading of the roads start. And before that happens almost half of my population split town.

If you have this problem, just wait 2 or 3 years and the roads will be loaded (the other transportation things wil not be loaded) and you can play again, with half of your original population that is.

About a week ago I started to build a city on the london region and eventually built a region thats got about 2.5 million people in it.. My largest city is 900,000 with 650,000 residents and 250,000 jobs. I am rather proud of it... but it looks all uneven so hopefully it will look like a masterpiece when finished.

Crickeys is this forum still going along? Do any of you remember my cities? I think I had like the 2nd or 3rd highest region of the members on these boards. I think if you go up to post # 52 I explained why I had a few problems. However I was going through my computer and deleting some old files and found this old jpeg: Its of my city the last time I actually took a pic of it: I got the region up to 6.89mn from the pic population. I didn't bother buying Rush Hour and so instead the red lines indicate my highways/motorways. If you look at my Industrial Heartland (Mountain Reach) - you can see my 'Spaghetti Junction' - 6 major road connections - traffic is bad as hell and its funny to watch a car drive aroun in circles :lol:

The expansion pack makes the game so much easier (it was easy before, but hey!!!). I am raking in the money, my largest problem - commute times have all but vanished, I've played 2hrs and already I'm up to 200,000 with 14mn in the bank!!!!!!!

Recently got my region up to 1.35 million. Largest city is only about 250k, though it also has about 275k of commercial and 60k of industrial.


Sim City still suffers from the same thing that it has always suffered from. The cities ALWAYS look way too vertical and "dense" for thier given populations. Something about the scaling has never been right.
very true... its surprising how a city of only about 100 000 can look to be as dense as uptown manhattan.

The biggest region I made has more than 6 million sims with the biggest city (several of them being very close in size) has about 1.5 million. No radical mods used.

The biggest region I've seen has more than 200 million sims, yes 200 000 000 sims. Made by someone from Simtropolis. I have a pic and ill host it if someone can tell me a website that can host large images for free (3MB)

is this for simcity 4 delux? i have had over 3 mill in the largest city, over 10 mill in the region "never made it over a few regions at a time.
in order to get the max out of your tile "footage", once you have over 50000 residents, check the style of buildings and thier population. watever buildings hold only 400 or 800 people demolish them. eventually a building with a higher capacity will be rebuilt. so if you have 100 buildings with max 800 people ( 80000 ) and they change to a max of 4000 each you will have a pop of 400000. some skyskrapers hold over 10k each (i think its some of the ones downloaded from sim city exchange. still the traffic and commute turns me off but i play every now and then.

3 million in a city wow, the highest had was about 2.6 million people in a 10 million resident metropolitan, and the nation had over 20 million people!!! Welcome to SSC by the way!!! The largest region I've ever seen had over 1,000,000,000!!!

My record so far is 520,000 people in a medium-sized city.

I just started playing the game again, and I've built about a quarter of the city up each time only to destroy it and start over to find the best way to do it. I have a little less than a quarter finished and have 450,000, the entire region about 530,000.

Forgot, I'm redoing it again, back down to 300,000. What seems to work on 3000 doesn't seem to work as well on this one.

I started back on it in the past week I have the city up to about 1,135,000 now. The region is about 1,239,000. This thing with the neighbors is new for me, I decided to make the smallest sized cities in area to be all industrial, not sure how effective it will be, I'm also thinking of adding a highway system through all the cities, again I'm not sure if it would help much. Also the hospitals are killing me, I can place 4 of them next to each other and it will say all 4 are overcrowded.

My largest city is Larna in Experimenta Region. it has 2.66 million sims with no super demand mods.

Very nice, really nice city, I am sure that so many avenues help you to avoid traffic problems. In my case I only have 8 avenues, 4 east-west and 4 north-south. I have made some cities with many avenues, and with single way roads, but sims don´t seam to like it or at least seam they like it more to have simple roads.

Here is my biggest city I named it Zeus and of course the region is called Olympus. The population is down a bit because I tried to spread the education more evenly. In the same area it hit 1,417,000+.

Ooh my commercial buildings are downloaded landmarks, but they have jobs so they function properly...you can get them of simtropolis.com :)

I start to build the region in 2003 and the it was finish and fully expandet in 2008 with 15.2 mio. but I continued to build on it until 2009.

But now : Chongqing 17 mio. :lol:

Umm, I don't know about money tree. But, you can download cash park from STEX like what I use. First go to STEX (Simtropolis Exchange), then type cash park on the search, and choose one of them. Note: you need to registered there before you can download it).

I rather to play as it is fair, but I don't have problems with money trees or parks, though I don't use them.

^I only need in when I built my airport for example. But when I play with my city I get like 300.000 every month. So that's no problem. But I do use the cheat Weaknesspays.

All I got is a new buildings, I dont have money tree, and all the extra stuff that help your city alot, just a few landmarks to make large cities more dense...

Build a totally industrial city beside your main city... then slowly remove the industrial areas in your main city as you grow the industrial city bigger.

But try to maybe leave ocean/sea areas for commercial and residential because they benefit from them.

It's been quite a while since I played this, here is my city at a population of 3,724,880. I still have room to build in it. I have to admit I don't get as much joy out of playing this game that I do the other sim city games. I mean I like to micro manage but this is ridiculous having to constantly go over every hospital and education building to adjust the funding is tiresome. School is holding 800 so I adjust for 900. Then later it's at 1,500 so I put it at 1,600, now an hour later it's back to 700.

The skyscraper will grow if the city has reached the stage 8 (stage 10 if you have cam). Or, download the plopable building at: STEX, BSCLEX, PLEX.
To make a new building, download Gmax and BAT.

thanx but that doesn't exactly answer my question,i downloaded the file for the buildings from the sim city 4 website and stuff but how do i insert them into the cities i make, i can build normal residential, commercial and industrial buildings and stuff and the default ones that come with the game eg. bank of china,cn tower, white house, hollywood sign and stuff but what about adding buildings, i downloaded the lever house model but i can't insert it into the game atm, how do i do it? my biggest city which is actually sustainable without any cheats ever being used in this city has aprox. 150000 people and $300000simoleons. how do i put the new buildings i download in? i'll post a pic of my cities soon but now i am going to go and create a new region with a few island based cities

Normally place the file into your plugin folder of simcity 4 in your documents.

Then it should be in landmark folder ingame...

Well that seems to be about the funding sliding on it's own. My problem is my school population keeps bobbing up and down, and I don't want to waste money putting 1,500 into a school holding 400, but if I go to 500 for funding the student population shoots up to 1,000. Back and forth back and forth. I waste so much time dealing with that junk.

As for my largest city the computer crashed and it's gone. To me trying to build a city of nothing but skyscrapers was tiring and it looked monotonous. So now I'm more interested in creating a blend, and the skyscrapers will only be in one area of the city, medium and low density, but especially medium, is what I'm after now,at least I'll be able to see things clearly instead of there being a wall of buildings and I see a sliver of street peeking out. I mean I already know I'm capable of building a city of 4 million in the large land area. I just need to install it and go to work again.

My largest city has about 1,502,653 people, while the rest of the region has something like 5,313,789 people thus making this region the largest i've ever made. most of the tiles are filled up but there are still lots that im still building on and i expect it to grow to about 7,500,000 people in total.

i find this very ironic cuz the facts of your city are similar to the facts of the LA metro region. LA city has like 3.8 million and the metropolitan statistical area is similar to the population of your region with12.8 million.

Here's my very first custom region that i abandonned about a year ago. I was still fairly new to sim city at the time, and didn't know what direction I wanted to take. I might try and breathe some life in to it one day, but i prefer my newer region much more.

My Largest City has 3,376,716 residents as of right now, and the growth is moderate, gaining about 5-10k residents a decade. It was originally a pretty nice un-grided city bu I got greedy with the numbers (population) rising so quickly that I eventually turned in into a grided city. The region has 13,458,137 residents, and the main city is named Charlotte (the city w/ 3 million residents), it has two cities outside of it w/ 1 million residents (both are on medium sized blocks w/ no water), but the Nation has a total of 5 cities w/ over a million residents:

Charlotte Metro Area cities that have over a million:
Charlotte: 3,376,716
New City: 1,072,585
South Charlotte: 1,037,572
note: Marin City: 741,820, part of Charlotte metro, w/ the potential to become a million person city
LA Metro Area:
Los Angeles County: 1,149,906

Boston Metro Area:
Boston 1,730,085


The Nation of Charlotte still has over 30 untouched/uncoiporated areas that will be developed, I want the population to reach 20 million at the very least.

mine is at 5.7 million. i have it as one regions but 2 countries tht hate each other. normania, 2.2 million people. new france, 2.5 million. normania has the largest city named auborn with 1.6 million people metro area. and 3 nukes have desroyed 3 cities.... 1 normanian city wilbur 120,00 metro.... 2 new france cities, yazoo city 33,000... and marianna 140,000.

Oh. You would upload them to an image host like ImageShack, Imgur, or Photobucket. But you've first got to convert them to .jpg files. At least, I'm pretty sure you do. Most forums I've been to don't like the .png file format for images because they have a larger file size.

And I meant Ctrl-Shift-S.

^^ ah just take a few print screen, paste them in paint, upload and post...very simple...

The USCN died a couple years back, like I said in the USCN application thread last night.

That is a very impressive region in terms of sheer size, though it looks like you're using a poorly done snow mod.

SC4Devotion has a fair bit of content on their LEX. In fact, that's the only place I go to get the NAM because that's where it gets released to first.

Well, it should be quite easy to access their LEX now that you're registered. You will have to enter your username and password every time you go to the LEX, but once it's set up, you should be able to access their LEX without problems.

If you had difficulty with the registration portion of their site, you should notify their administrator that their registration method is far more difficult than the registration methods for other sites are. I personally had very few issues registering there.

I can't wait for Simtropolis to be 100% again - it's been slow for me since its update a year ago, and I hadn't used it much because of that.

so my region finnaly hit 10.5 million.... then a nuke hit a new france city.... so a war started... they now occupy the top left city and the northern part of the city below... its now at 10.05 million. :( 3 nukes went off and destroyed military bases in normania... wilbur is occupied and half gone... its so depressed. any way they r now fighting over land and part of auborn, now at 3.4 million, is damaged ..... and i think im gonna invade the biggest suburb... so thats what is happenng in the new part of europe..... :( :( :( :(

:guns1:so the war progressed through san jose and reached northern gilbert in normania. the war finally ended after america announced the nuke was accidently dropped by them. so the region went down to 9.3 million but i rebuilt it to 11.1 million and now each country has a slightly diffrent border. auborn was invaded in the southwest corner (2nd richest area in the region). but the war stopped before it got to downtown which would cost millions to rebuild.:) now wilbur is twice as big..... so thats whats going on in south west europe.... :):):):):):)

so i rebuilt my nations a the populatio has finally hit 11.8 million!!!! some small towns have formed in new france and my citieshave gotten so clse to 1 million people metro populatio!!:):):):):)
