View Full Version : Lime Street Station - 2 lounges, 3 shops, information point, facilities etc
Mostly Lurking September 1st, 2008, 11:01 PM Work has now started on this project - as seen today walking through the station.
Work is starting on a £3.4m scheme to improve facilities for rail passengers using Liverpool's Lime Street station.
Two new passenger lounges, an information point, three shops and railway staff accommodation are being built in the Network Rail scheme.
The new facilities will be built on the old cab road between platforms seven and eight, which used to be used by Royal Mail vehicles and black cabs.

Anyone got any renders other than the one on the BBC website?

This information relates to a scheme that has already been completed.
kat2 September 2nd, 2008, 03:16 PM I know, *lol* the pdf does date september of last year, however the company that did that work is also going to do the new works too!

Babaloo September 2nd, 2008, 06:34 PM I hope thay are not glorified portacabins. I'm trying to imagine what can be done for that amount of money in that particular space.
Roo September 2nd, 2008, 07:49 PM The tower will be coming down beginning next week apparently, according to the forshaw workers on site. They are currently doing preparatory works throughout the night on the roof of the building.

Sounds good Roo (nice to see you BTW, haven't seen you around for a bit). It looks like La Machine is going to be this buildings swansong.
bmc9273 September 2nd, 2008, 08:48 PM No render, but there might be a bit more info here.

PS - I'll be working in it once completed!
T0M September 3rd, 2008, 04:38 PM Works already started, gives you an idea of the scale of the project. I think it's going to be great, anything is better than the few benches which currently serve as a waiting area..

Thanks Chris. Iv been a busy bee, but still always manage to find time to keep up with the times on SSC.
jayo September 3rd, 2008, 10:18 PM Any more pictures?
I'm eager too see what it will look like. :D
Will they clean up the roof?
Medici September 3rd, 2008, 10:23 PM I think if they demolished the ticket offices and moved them further down the station would look bigger, and then remove the retail units on the clock wall and knock the wall through taking the staion entrance into the old north Western Hotel then this would greatly improve Lime St.
Mostly Lurking September 4th, 2008, 02:40 PM I noticed yesterday that on platforms 1-6 the 'tv style' platforms monitors (as seen in the photo in post #9) had been replaced by the modern LED equvilent - so platforms 7-9 shoudl follow suit too.

I shamelessly ripped it out of the Network Rail press release (http://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/content/Detail.asp?ReleaseID=3873&NewsAreaID=2). And then shamelessly put it on my blog which I am also shamelessly plugging here:

Sorry about that overdose of shamelessness ;)
eyesparky February 14th, 2009, 11:22 PM Framework seems to be mostly in place.

gottago February 14th, 2009, 11:44 PM I know this is off-topic (a bit... well mostly) but how long has that Ladbrokes been in that tiny little space between the escalators and the (now temporarily closed) Lime St entrance? I couldn't believe it when I saw it; I wasn't aware there was enough space for a unit there!
And saw the new shops from the train the other day and they were indeed coming along very nicely.
Mostly Lurking February 15th, 2009, 12:21 AM I think Ladbrokes has been open for a week or so now at the most. It is where the ladies toilets used to be isn't it?
The travel centre is closed for refurbishment at the moment.
bmc9273 April 29th, 2009, 02:08 AM The info point *should* be opening today (Wednesday), the rest should be open early-mid June. No idea what retail units will be moving in though.

Mostly Lurking May 1st, 2009, 04:55 PM It did indeed open on Wednesday. I assume the old one is to be removed soon?
Unsure about the back of the building (which faces platform 8) - is it meant to look like it is unfinished bare metal?

It will probably be removed during the late May bank holiday weekend. I think the metal finish is more or less finished. There will be glass fences up both platforms 7 & 8, many of the stanchions are in place.

Irish Blood English Heart May 9th, 2011, 11:52 AM Thanks Howie, looking good.
gottago August 20th, 2012, 12:49 AM Not the most exciting of updates but a new Network Rail information desk is being finished off where the cash machines used to be. Not too different in style to other NR station desks. It features a Virgin Trains logo which have to be taken down as quickly as it has been put up.
No doubt that was riveting for each and every one of you.
