^^ i think printing is not a problem. We can use an Iron-on-transfer sheet and a color inkjet printer. What we need is a nice design. :)

Yes. Or maybe we will make it more futuristic like emphasizing on the upcoming mega projects. That is to remind us all that there's something big to expect in the future.:)

Welcome @nehpets16, we're hoping you'll keep us connected here. Eventhough you're in US but you'll play a big role for our discussion, on how? Kasi kaysa magfield trip ang mga official to get some ideas on the other side of the world, pwede na i-input mo dito ang mga ideas and innovation dyan na pwede or sa tingin mo na malaki ang pakinabang dito sa lupang hinirang natin. Is it okey, or just so very serious? :) :)

Northern Mindanao is located in the Northwestern part of the island of Mindanao. The region boasts of its strategic location as the the gateway to the entire island, making it an important link to the major markets of Cebu and Manila and a vital node in the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth Center. Northern Mindanao is comprised of five provinces, namely: Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte and eight cities: Cagayan de Oro, Malaybalay, Valencia, Gingoog, Oroquieta, Ozamis, Tangub and Iligan and 86 municipalities occupying a total land area of 14,033 square kilometers. The region is located outside the typhoon belt with rainfall distributed evenly throughout the year. The region's favorable climate is characteristically mild and cool, given the region's vegetation, natural springs and high elevation. The population of Northern Mindanao is estimated at 2.4 million. The languages spoken are Cebuano, Tagalog and English.

Resources

Northern Mindanao is blessed with bountiful and varied resources that include fertile agricultural lands, vast pastures and an extensive coastal stretch. Prime agricultural lands and fertile, cultivable areas for crop production cover more than 600,000 hectares. Corn, rice, sugarcane, pineapple, coconut and banana are the main crops. A 1,160 kilometers coastline makes fishing a major occupation for those living in the coastal areas.

Infrastructure and Utilities

Northern Mindanao has one of the country's best arterial road network connecting commercial, production and resource sites. The Cagayan de Oro Airport is the center of air transport in Northern Mindanao, while a secondary airport is based in Ozamis City. The CDO sea port in Cagayan de Oro, with excellent facilities and equipment for handling bulk cargo, has direct shipping routes to Japan, Malaysia, and Kaoshiung, Taiwan. International and domestic direct dial telephone service is available in key cities and municipalities. Mobile lines are also available. Two paging companies are also present in the region while numerous Internet providers offer international links to computer users.

Economy

Northern Mindanao is on a sustained growth path in all three sectors of the economy: agriculture, fishery and forestry, industry and services - stimulated by the generally favorable macro-economic environment, sustained investor confidence and political stability. The region's Gross Domestic Product was placed at PhP44 billion in 1998. Cumulative investments from1992 to 19996 reached PhP66.3 billion with an average growth of 27.45 percent and comprising of 47.4 percent of total investments in Mindanao. Japan accounts for the bulk of foreign equity investment, followed by theVirgin Islands, the United States and South Korea. The region exported an average of US$ 388 million worth of products over a three year period (1994-96), with the United States as the region's biggest market, followed by the Japan, Europe, Taiwan and South Korea.

The Cagayan- Iligan Corridor (CIC)

The Cagayan-Iligan Corridor lies on theNorthern Coast of Mindanao. The CIC is well positioned to rise to prominence because of its proximity to and comparative advantage intechnical, human, commercial and natural resources. Envisioned to be the trade center of the south, the CIC is now home to major enterprises in industry and agricultural and is the ideal location for investment in metals (engineering and metal working), construction and infrastructure, oleochemicals and basic chemicals, agriculture aquaculture and agro- forestry.

ARE U IN FAVOR THAT OUR CITY WILL HAVE ITS OWN CONG. DISTRICT?

para sakin i think it's tym that iligan will have its own cong. district, anyway na rich naman sto city ang required population of 280,000 (right now that total population of our city is 349,998.) and our city income is very high. dapat lang pud na mabulag ang iligan sa lanao del norte kay iligan is not part of lanao norte, iligan is a city na jud xa daan before pa na form ang municipalities sa lanao norte

yes i am in favor of putting up a LONE CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT here in ILIGAN CITY...it does not only give the city a REPRESENTATION in CONGRESS but also the projects that it entails are a big help to the city...CDO is already planning to have a 2nd CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT for its CITY...and it is time for us to have our own in ILIGAN...i hope VARF BELMONTE is true to his word that HE WILL ENDORSE THAT TO CONGRESS IF HE WINS...

Youre refering to Int'l Container terminal and LIA right? That i also dont know.. :)

anyway, there's an u/c Iligan-Bukidnon road. That shall cut the travel time to Western Mindanao for those coming from the south. A massive project indeed!
this ILIGAN-BUKIDNON road is jst yet a dream...i've been to BRGY. ROGONGON last year and i asked the HABAL2X drivers who went to the last part of the BRGY. boundary to BUKIDNON if the road to BUKIDNON is accessible now becoz of that project and they say ITS NOT ACCESSIBLE BY ANY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION NOT EVEN A SINGLE MOTORCYCLE...u have to walk by foot at the end of the rugged terrain...I HAVE SEEN THE ROAD and MOST OF IT ARE NOT CONCRETED YET OR PERHAPS PAVED...it is impossible for that road to succeed due to its MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN...i think CONG. BADELLES owns us an explanation coz he used to boast of that project before and when i saw it, i ddnt know that the road is that worse...

THATS WHY AT ONE TIME when the city inaugurated a certain SITIO LIMUNSUDAN in ROGONGON which is before TALAKAG, BUKIDNON my former work mate told me that they had to go around CDO to LUMBIA going to TALAKAG bcoz indeed the road from ILIGAN to BUKIDNON is NOT YET OPENLY CONNECTED...they say if it is accessible you would be able to go to SM CDO by that road...

hello,
yea, i do find a lot of things here that is quite applicable there and will be of help to everyone...
is anyone interested in a very good library sa iligan? one that is in a new building (architecturally good), well-lit, with computer kiosks, and a very wide range of resource materials for not only research but for entertainment as well (including CD's and videos)...
ingon-ana man gud ang mga libraries dinhi sa US,
and i was planning to (kanus-a kaha) if i'll have the resources (soon, hehe, i'm still 17) that i'm gona put up a library there...
yea, and i do believe it will help the city immensely...
dili ko ganahan ug library nga ngit-ngit ug hadlok tan-awon... hehe

Hi @nehpets16. It would be nice to see that kind of librabry here in Iligan someday. Although the concept is something new and different from the usual library you can find in the Philippines, I believe that it will definitely help the city immensely.

Anyway, it's our pleasure to keep our fellow iliganons here and abroad be updated regarding events or happenings in our city.

It's great to hear that there is a handful of Iliganons who are as proud or even prouder than I am as an Iliganon. I rarely meet an Iliganon who's proud of being one.

I noticed that the "regulars" of this thread are visually creative in describing, or say in "marketing" Iligan City as a tourist and investment destination. What you guys can possibly come up with in developing Iligan City's image into becoming one of the Philippines' top Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) destinations? I believe that Iligan City has the great potentials and I'd like to think that one day, a BPO company will soon decide to put up a call centre site in Iligan. If that company proves to be successful, I'm sure all other BPO companies will come to follow.

Dumaguete City, though is smaller and less urbanized than Iligan, has earned already a reputation as a potential BPO destination. To date, two of the pioneers in the BPO industry, TeleTech and SPI Technologies, have started their call centre operations in Dumaguete last year.

If a city like Dumaguete can earn such, I bet Iligan can handle the challenge too. What do you think guys?

In the call centre I work for, you will easily find or meet a teammate or even a seatmate who also hails from Iligan. Name a call centre in Cebu and I can name one or a couple of Iliganons affiliated with that company.

yes thats a nice notion from an iliganon from abroad and with your resources there, we can make that a dream come true in iligan city...i am also in with that idea coz i also like libraries and most of the libraries here are also dark and dull looking...i hope to see that kind of library here with such an open space and good natural lighting so it can make the library goers in with such knowledge when they come out of the building.

A certain 30 hectare National Steel Corp property (football field) has already been sited as Information Technology Park, as the city also wants to be an IT center. A representative from Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) also assured the City Government that the giant telecom company is willing to assist in the development of the city’s IT industry. However, the city must first provide the needed infrastructures and the business environment for the IT industry if it must move ahead in the competition to host IT industries like call centers, outsourcing and medical transcription among others. Unfortunately, I have no idea if this plan will push through.

Iligan City to hold Job Fair 2007

Iligan City (23 January) -- A two-day Job Fair will be conducted in Iligan for those seeking employment abroad, said Celso D. Fernando, supervising labor and employment officer of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), Iligan City.

Fernando said that no less than the city's chief executive, Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz, requested the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to scout for recruitment agencies for the Job Fair slated January 25-26, 2007 at the Iligan City Bus and Jeepney Terminal-North Bound, located in Tambo, this city.

Skilled workers and professionals of various categories-medical and non-medical courses here in the city and its neighboring cities of Manila, Davao and Cagayan de Oro have signified their intention to come to Iligan for this purpose, Fernando further said.

He recalled that for the year 2006, they were able to deploy 278 out of 314 job applicants for overseas employment through the Fair. Some 190 students were also enrolled to the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) during the previous year's summer season.

"As per our record last year, we have registered a total of 2,870 for overseas employment and 4,271 for local and 210 under SPES," Fernando said. (PIA-10)

Rafting in the rapids of Ma. Cristina Falls in Iligan City

The Cagayan de Oro White Water Rafting Inc. visited Iligan City early last year to explore the rapids of the majestic Maria Cristina Falls. This was in connection with their bid to host the 2007 World White Water Rafting Competition in Cagayan De Oro and possibly in Iligan City.

ABS-CBN expands network coverage

MORE in-depth stories and expanded coverage of Northern Mindanao are expected with the recent integration of TV Patrol Northern Mindanao that was launched at the station's Bulua office compound last Monday.

ABS-CBN news chief Adroel Alcober and the network's Mindanao cluster head Louis Benedict Bennett said the integration was initiated as early as last year but was only completed this year owing to technical preparations.

Sun.Star Network Online's 12th Asean Summit Watch

Local and national government officials along with representatives from the media, civil, and business sectors attended the launching.

Alcober explained that the integration means that the station's Northern Mindanao news program would be aired simultaneously in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

"With the integration, we can also expect reports from Butuan City and our correspondents from Caraga region, though Butuan has a separate news program. The move towards integration was based in part on cultural similarities between Cagayan de Oro and Iligan," Alcober said.

For his part, Bennett said the expansion only signifies that TV Patrol Network Northern Mindanao isn't merely confined to the communities it serves.

"The news program is not parochial or confined to (the local area) delivering community news...it is not competing locally but on an international level," Bennett said.

The two said an eventual integration with its Butuan station may be forthcoming but not in the near future.

The network covers the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan as well as the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Bukidnon and Camiguin and some parts of Zamboanga del Norte and Zambaonga del Sur.

The integrated TV Patrol Northern Mindanao is anchored by veteran journalists Alden Bacal and Conchita May Tanate.

Its Cagayan de Oro-Iligan reporters consist of Lorenzo Luzon, Shiela Joy Labrador, Maricel Butardo together with Iligan Senior Reporter Ronnie Enderes and Reporter Roxanne Arevalo. (Stephen Capillas)

The falls is deeply situated in the forest; accessible only by foot. A two-tiered falls with a sight so imposing to its surrounding. It is one of the highest waterfalls in the country. The lower cascade alone is higher than that of Maria Cristina Falls. It is located in the hinterland barangay of Rogongon near the border of Bukidnon.

Iligan City to hold Job Fair 2007
by Gladys @ 9:26 am. Filed under News

Iligan City — A two-day Job Fair will be conducted in Iligan for those seeking employment abroad, said Celso D. Fernando, supervising labor and employment officer of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), Iligan City.

Fernando said that no less than the city’s chief executive, Mayor Lawrence Ll.

Some 190 students were also enrolled to the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) during the previous year’s summer season.

“As per our record last year, we have registered a total of 2,870 for overseas employment and 4,271 for local and 210 under SPES,” Fernando said. (PIA-10)

Global Steel Philippines (SPV-AMC), Inc., the country's largest manufacturer of flat steel products, is shipping over 16,000 metric tons of cold rolled coils (CRC) and hot rolled coils (HRC) to Brazil for the first time.

In a statement, Global Steel managing director Lalit K. Sehgal said some 9,000 metric tons of CRC and 7,000 metric tons of HRC are currently being loaded to MV Sea Brilliance for immediate shipment to Brazil .

"Our exports to various markets worldwide including Indonesia, Italy, India, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, Dubai and now Brazil, is proof that Global Steel products are rapidly gaining worldwide acceptance," Sehgal said.

He attributed the increasing market confidence to the company's quality production standards, competitive pricing and use of state-of-the-art technology.

Commenting on the current market scenario, company spokesman Sangram Mohanty said steel demand is picking up in the US, European and Asean countries resulting in improvement of prices ranging from US $ 20 to US $ 40 per metric ton, which will yield better results for the company.

In light of the rising demand for Global Steel products both in the domestic and overseas market, the Iligan plant is poised to step up production capacity for the current year.

GSPI is the Philippines' largest steel manufacturer. It exports 70 percent of its production primarily to Asian nations.

Over 1,200 skilled committed Filipino workers are employed by the company in Iligan City, where its manufacturing plant is located.

Worldwide, Global Steel Holdings operates and manages over 14 million tons per annum of steel production capacity. (PNA)

The old Ubaldo Laya ancestral home in Pala-o, Iligan City. The old building, still as sturdy as ever, once housed the Iligan Museum, the city’s tourism office, and Bayanihan Research Center.

i guess there's still hope for the mindanao railway system. it's already in the senate(?) according to a presidential assistant who was interviewed by tv patrol northern mindanao.

I think house of representatives ang giingon.. Hearing that news ganiha, my hopes that this MRS will be built anytime soon fell.. It's still a bill.. It might take sometime before it'd be enacted as a law.. Then the damn implementation process.. :ohno: Im giving it another 20 years to be safe..:(

It's so frustrating.. TV Patrol NM reported in Oct2005 that all the agreements shall have been signed by Dec2005.. And after a year, here we are, waiting in vain..:(

^^I took the pics this morning when I visited the new office of the City Agriculturist in one of the buildings in the complex. I've observed that there are many idle buildings there e.g. bagsakan building, etc. Ngano wa man na nila gamita? sayang ang lugar. As you can see, the area has the potential to become a business district.
