BAKEKANG February 3rd, 2007, 10:37 PM It's about time nasad. Murag dugay na kaayo. Pila na ka adminstrations niagi la jud renovation ko nakita...to think naa ang seat sa city government sa buhanginan hill.
I do not see how would that help iligan. please expound that.
pasensya na if i kind of divert the issue to politics but election is fast approaching and we might not have known it but there far more iliganons who lurk on this thread than we actually know ..and you guys you could be their only source of news about the politics in the city.
I see not too many people like another badelles to sit in congress. why is that so?
g0Rs February 3rd, 2007, 11:06 PM ^^ true. daghan kayo lurkers. hehehe. it's been along time na ang buhanginan hill la niagi ug renovation. IMHO dili lang tungod kay tourist destination sya but many officials/ambassadors/VIPs/investors muadto ug city hall para magcourtesy call sa mayor. di ba mas maayo kung presentable ang place...:)
dili man siguro many people don't like another badelles to sit in congress. mga tawo naa lay doubts... una kay bag-o pa man gud si Nikki dayun taas nga position na dayun iya gi aim. ikaduha is political dynasty. wa na jud lain? (opinyon lang ni nako ha). anyway, i'm still undecided kung kinsa ako ivote to represent 1st district of ldn in congress. wa pa ko kabalo sa plataporma sa mga kandidato.

priority?...probably both widening the city's economic base (agri, industrial, commerce to maximize the potential of other sectors) and fiscal reforms to mitigate the vulnerability of the economy from external shocks (like the Asian financial crisis which lead to the closure of some industries in iligan).

- cleanliness (no why(s))
- more welfare programmes for the less fortunates and minorities
- More fiscal responsibility in city government to ensure the city provides services in a reasonable, cost-effective manner.

Alingatong February 7th, 2007, 01:13 AM UP, DOST forge pact to produce more microelectronics engineers
The government and some of the country’s top educational institutions have forged an agreement to produce more microelectronics engineers to further boost the electronics industry.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the University of the Philippines (UP) - Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on Friday signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with some of the country’s top technological schools "to address the immediate need" to sustain the country’s competitive edge in semiconductor and microelectronics.
In the MOA signed with De La Salle University, Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT), University of San Carlos in Cebu City, and Mindanao State University (MSU)-Iligan Institute of Technology, the agreement focused on strengthening the graduate programs and research activities of the schools to advance the country’s microelectronics industry.
"If we are going to produce the numbers needed by the industry, we have to get these institutions," Science Secretary Estrella Alabastro said.
Alabastro stressed the electronics industry comprised 80 percent of the country’s total exports, which provides jobs to about 300,000 Filipinos.
Under the agreement, the DOST will be providing more than P8.6 million in grant assistance to UP for the three-year implementation of the project "Developing Microelectronics Education — Phase 1 and 2."
Acknowledging UP’s important role in the development of semiconductor and microelectronics industry, the state university is tasked to transfer basic and advanced courses in microelectronics to four partner universities.
UP would also provide expertise through the conduct of short-term immersion programs of the member schools.
The DLSU, MIT, University of San Carlos, and the MSU-IIT, on the other hand, would "provide counter funding of not less than five percent of the total project cost, in cash or in kind."
School officials said the industry contributed about $27 billion worth of exports in the economy last year.

g0Rs February 7th, 2007, 01:38 PM UP, DOST forge pact to produce more microelectronics engineers
School officials said the industry contributed about $27 billion worth of exports in the economy last year.

ikra February 8th, 2007, 02:12 AM Gov’t may seek ODA for railway plan in Mindanao
Inquirer
Last updated 06:30am (Mla time) 02/08/2007
OFFICIAL development assistance (ODA) may be tapped for a plan to build a $540-million Mindanao Railway System, an official of the Department of Transportation and Communication said.
Saudi Arabia, South Korea and China have expressed interest in the project, said Guiling Mamondiong, undersecretary for railway.
“But if private companies would like to undertake the project, they are most welcome to submit proposals,” Mamondiong said.
The feasibility study will be submitted to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) this month, he said.
According information on the NEDA online project-monitoring site, the Mindanao Railway System will link the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan and the Phividec Industrial Estate, Metro Iligan Regional Agri-Industrial Center, Alwana Business Park, Ayala Light Industrial Park, and FCDO Business Park.
“Although it is not a medium-term project, the government wants to at least start important works as early as possible, even if project completion would be beyond 2010,” Mamondiong said.
He said Cagayan de Oro-Iligan was the only industrial corridor in Mindanao.
The rail project will address calls of investors to improve Mindanao transportation facilities. Riza T. Olchondra, with INQUIRER.net

Alingatong February 8th, 2007, 06:42 AM N. Mindanao importers pay P1.353 billion custom's taxes in '06
THE Bureau of Customs in Northern Mindanao reported a total collection of P1.3 billion in customs duties and taxes from 20 of the region's top importers.
Customs District Collector Roberto Sarmiento said the economic boom year for Filipinos has just started.
"Putting our fiscal house in order makes the Philippines shine in the eyes of our investors, breaks the shackles of the debt cycle and clears the way towards an economic homerun," Sarmiento said.
"With this, President Arroyo has commended our revenue collection team as well as the whole Cabinet down to the agency level for keeping faith with our goals to boost the public coffers, cut spending, and curb graft," he added.
The shrinking of the budget deficit to P62.2 billion, the lowest in eight years and the third year in a row, as well as, the increases in foreign investments and tax revenues are now being translated into social payback in terms of education, health services and infrastructure, among others, he also said.
Topping the list of these importers are Nestle Philippines, Inc., Global Steel International, Inc., Del Monte Phil., Inc., Pillsbury Milling Corp., Holcim/Alsons Phil. Inc., R.I. Chemical Corp., Petronas (PEPI), Pilipinas Shell, Ricor Mills, Steag State Power, Inc., Philippine Softwood Products, J.S. Unitrade Merchandise, Transway Sales, Mabuhay Vinyl Corp., Iligan Cement Corp., Cagayan Corn Products, Mindanao Container Port Corp., Taira Commercial Industries, Fiesta Brands, and Universal Robina Corp.
In an earlier report, Sarmiento said the region's top 20 exports, last year, totaled US287.283 million with Canned Pineapple Products valued at US$89.349 million topping the list, followed by Sintered Ore, US$53.811 million; Kalcol, US$20.027 million; Philippine Crude Coconut Oil, US$23.237 million and Everyday Milk Powder, US$14.461 million.
Farmin, US$14.461 million; Ordinary Portland Cement, US$11.475 million; Philippine Cane Sugar, US$9.905 million; Desiccated Coconut, US$8.708 million and Limestone Cement, US$6.009 million; KD Finished Wood Product, US$6.003 million; Falcata Lumber, US$4.770 million and Coconut Shell Charcoal, US$4.761 million; Fatty alcohol, US$4.569 million; Rubber Boots/Working Shoes, US$4.569 million; Cement Clinker in Bulk, US$ 3.454 million; Philippine Cane Molasses, US$2.860 million; Raw Cane Sugar, US$2.785 million; Silicon Metal, US$2.751 million and Refined Glycerine, US$2.515 million. I did not include the tourism since i was only given 4 years. It will take more than that to develop the industry. I had to prioritize what the city needs now. Yes. The rugged and mountainous topography of iligan is undoubtly one of its major advantages. It is endowed with natural resouces that could be developed into major attractions. However, the city will have to use a big chunk of its budget to develop the tourism industry especially on infrastructure spending. I can make a tourism infrastructure plan though (this is just my opinion)

20% Development Fund for this year amounting to Php. 103.94M was moved and was seconded for approval by members of the Council Development Council (CDC).
This development was achieved after the CDC Chairman, no less than City Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz, explained to the CDC members where the said funding possibly be used. The total CDC funding consisted of the Following: the Economic Development Fund is Php 5.75M, the Social Development Fund is Php 19.05M, the Infrastructure Development Fund is Php 54.14M , the Information and Communication Technology and knowledge Development Fund is Php 7.5M, the Environment Protection Fund is Php 4.657M, and the Macro and Local Administration Fund is Php 12.825M
The CDC would submit the 20% approved Development Fund to the Sangguniang Panglunsod so that it would be made into law to be implemented by the local goverment.
Mayor Cruz also made clear that he would make consultation with the different barangay captains so as to finalize the sheme on how to use the Php 1.5M equal sharing of the barangays.

Well, ok sad. Pero mas maayo ug mall naa diha aron mabibo sad nag samot nang dapita. There are office buildings na man sab duol diha. Aside from Pryce, naa pa man guihapon daghang bakante nga yuta labina paingon sa Brgy. Tambacan. Just like LKK sa CdO, gauna gyud ang mall, then follow na lang dayon ang ubang structures. (Opinion lang sad)
FrancisXavier February 9th, 2007, 10:47 AM oh i see..but dili unta dako kaayo nga mall..kay sayang jud ang yuta w/c is magamit for future development..

The top left photo (end of the river) is already Brgy. Tamabacan.
They can acquire the lot beside Pryce Business Park and build the mall there facing the national highway.
The location is good. Very Near sa Iligan River, Iligan Bay, National Highway and more less 1km away from the CBD.
