Alingatong February 21st, 2007, 05:42 AM I'm keeping my fingers crossed regarding the total reconstruction of the gov't site. Sad to say it really lags behind other major cities in terms of "UPDATED" data.
Don't you worry. Anytime soon you'll see a brand new iligan city official website. It's totally different from what we have now. I'm 100% sure about this because one of the webmasters is a friend of mine.
g0Rs February 21st, 2007, 05:57 AM Galing mo talaga @Alingatong. Ang dami mong connections. hehehe

This time, i see no reason why the city govt. can't maintain a far better, more accurate and updated website. They have now acquired a fast DSL internet connection and a new web server. The website will be maintained by a pool of talented people headed by a friend of mine under CAD-ICTC.
g0Rs February 21st, 2007, 09:16 AM ^^ that's good. yehey to that
suggest ko lang pala sa webmaster huwag mo na ilagay mukha ng mayor natin sa front page ng site katulad ng cebu official government websites. gawan mo nalang ng link exclusive para sa kanya. thanks
TONZI February 21st, 2007, 09:53 AM me too i also hope for a better and updated iligan city govt website...i used to visit there everyday and even now but all i see is the same news and info...

ikra February 21st, 2007, 04:40 PM whoooo.. salamat sa pics alingatong... i am really starting to love the new buildings.
Epays Letchon Manok/Simon's Internet Cafe looks very nice.. why? because of the brick wall texture... that makes it look really european. I wonder if the rest of the city businesses would start to have brick texture on its facades and then iligan would start to look european lol - modern nga lang.
also that building @ New commercial bldg. near Pala-o Public Market, ready for occupancy. It looks really good, not just another building with no taste at all.
Anybody know if the local government has plans on properly managing those messy wires? Preferably putting em underground?
g0Rs February 22nd, 2007, 12:49 AM ^^ haven't heard any plans yet.

Shipping agency apologizes for delayed trip
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
"WE APOLOGIZE for the inconvenience this has caused our passengers, and we thank them for their patience and understanding as the management extends its sincerest apologies to all the passengers inconvenienced by the unforeseen delay," the Aboitiz Transport Shipping (ATS) said in a statement.
Super Ferry 9, which was loaded with 517 passengers from Bacolod to Iligan was towed in the vicinity of Sipalay, in southern Negros to the Iloilo Port Tuesday morning after experiencing technical problems at about 8 nautical miles off Daog point, south west of Negros island at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.
A corporate statement from ATS-Manila said that the company immediately dispatched SF 1 from Zamboanga via Iloilo to assist SF 9.
As of press time, ATS said that SF 1 and SF 9 will arrive the Iloilo port 6 a.m. Wednesday instead of itsorginial schedule of 10 a.m. Tuesday.
But all passengers (composed of 492 adults and 25 minors) on board are safe and being attended to by 124 vessel crew who are updating the passengers of the situation on an hourly basis, and making sure that there is sufficient supply of food and resources.
ATS statement also said that Philippine Coast Guard Vessel 3502 was also dispatched to assist in the operation, even as a replacement vessel was already dispatched and expected to arrive Iloilo on Wednesday to bring the passengers to their destinations.

By: EAMayormita
CIO Press Release
February 21, 2007
The Iligan City Council was honored as “Best Sangguniang Panlungsod” for Highly-Urbanized City Category in the whole Region 10 for the year 2006. DILG City Director Meles Samporna confirmed Cagayan de Oro-based DILG-Region 10 Director and Regional Awards Committee Quirino Libunao’s message that evaluators saw how organized the Iligan City Council under Vice-Mayor Dy’s leadership is with its councilors in designated cubicles housed in its own legislative building. High impact resolutions and ordinances from regular sessions with a usual full attendance on deck gave the local Sangguniang Panlungsod an edge over the other contenders.
Evaluators for the regional category visited Iligan last February 1. DILG Iligan has submitted pertinent documents supporting the City Council’s nomination for the national level to the national evaluation committee on the 9th.
Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz proudly considers this distinction as another milestone for the City Government of Iligan being a standout among the note-worthy cities in the country.

g0Rs February 22nd, 2007, 10:47 PM RDC-10 declares winners of search for best LPMC
by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob
Cagayan de Oro City (22 February) -- Regional Director Myra V. Balandra of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in region 10 said she is confident the people will be enlightened on the economic situation of the country.
“Indeed, our economy has not only grown but is delivering a strong social payback to the people in terms of growing confidence, investments, jobs, food, infrastructure, health and education,” she said.
People should listen to the report of Pres. Arroyo on the economic performance of the Philippines, last year, to appreciate her efforts and acknowledge that the economy would have grown more, if the opposition simply piped down the political noise and the destabilization attempts, she also said.
Meanwhile, Balandra said the Regional Development Council of Northern Mindanao (RDC-10) through the Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) has conducted the Search for Outstanding Local Project Monitoring Committees (LPMC) among the region’s provinces, cities and municipalities whose mayors are presidents of the league of municipalities.
“Covering the period 2004-2006, the search was aimed at motivating the local chief executives (LCE) and local development councils (LDC) to facilitate project implementation, rationalize monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of programs and projects and heighten the advocacy on the use of M&E information for decision-making,” Balandra said.
A mechanism for M&E to ensure timely completion and delivery of programs and projects, the RPMES assists the LCE’s in making well-informed decisions for good governance, the adoption of which is part of the thrust of making institutions and people more effective, efficient and accountable to the public.
On the other hand, Balandra said the criteria of the search include the organization of the LPMC, capability building activities in consonance with the Regional Project M&E System, up-to-date reporting on the status of programs and projects, information dissemination on RPMES reports, non-government/people’s organization (NGO/PO) participation in monitoring activities and institutional arrangement for the operation of the RPMES.
Declared winners are Misamis Occidental and the cities of Gingoog and Iligan for provincial, component city and high-urbanized city categories, respectively. No winner, however, was cited in the municipal category.
Also cited are Lanao del Norte and Camiguin, 1st and 2nd runners-up, provincial category, Tangub and Malybalay Cities, 1st and 2nd runners-up, city category and Lopez Jaena, Misamis Occidental, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon and Bacolod, Lanao del Norte, 1st, 2nd and 3rd runners-up, respectively, municipal category, Balandra also said. NG to reimburse Landbank for cash advances to CARP
By MARIANNE GO
The Philippine Star
...The World Bank is one of Landbank’s foreign source for credit programs for countryside development.
This year, the Landbank is securing a new $100-million loan, approximately P4.8 billion, from the World Bank for Support for Strategic Local Development and Investment (S2LDI) which facilitates Local Government Units’ access to financing for strategic infrastructure investments.
The loan was approved in October last year and is scheduled for drawdown in March this year.
The LGU of Iligan is one of the beneficiaries of the World Bank loan.

Urban Development
The city's urban rehabilitation shall be patterned after a more compact urban development plan, i.e. a circumferential-type of development. This pattern creates a heirarchy of functions (and size) that distributes some of the activities from the central business district to the nodes (north and south growth areas) around them. These nodes shall be interconnected through a radial and circumferential road system. This design will foster a more efficient circulation system and corridor development.

MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology - Photos by Alingatong
MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology is an autonomous external campus of the Mindanao State University System. It received its charter on July 12, 1968 as provided for in Republic Act 5363.
The history of the Institute goes back to 1946 with the establishment of the Iligan High School (IHS). In 1956, the IHS was converted into the Lanao Technical School (LTS) under the Bureau of Vocational Education. In 1965, RA 4626 converted LTS into the Northern Mindanao Institute of Technology (NMIT). However, this law was not implemented. On July 12, 1968, RA No. 5363 integrated Lanao Technical School into the MSU System.
During the 62nd meeting of the MSU Board of Regents on March 12, 1975, the first comprehensive reorganizational plan for the Institute was approved under BOR Resolution No. 894, s. 1975. This plan made the Institute the first autonomous campus of the MSU System.
In the years that followed, MSU-IIT continually expanded and developed its academic programs. While doing so, it also enhanced research, infrastructure and cultural activities.

Suka Pinakurat: Iligan's top-selling hot stuff
Here's another new product made in Iligan that's sweeping the country by storm. The name is "Suka Pinakurat," a spicy vinegar made from pure fermented coconut nectar and spices germane to the farmlands of Iligan (in photo).
"Suka Pinakurat" is a product of Green Gold Gourmet, a homegrown food processing family business in Iligan. It was started in 2000 by Rene Jose Stuart del Rosario. Sales and distribution was handled by his wife Donna Stuart del Rosario. Being new in the market, this product initially experienced stiff resistance in having it displayed and sold in retail establishments. The quality of "Suka Pinakurat" however could not be denied. Satisfied customers soon spread the word and introduced it to friends, family and associates.
After four years the quality and product acceptability was able to define itself. Currently "Suka Pinakurat" and other products of Green Gold Gourmet are available all over Mindanao, Visayas and Metro Manila. Influence has not been limited to the Philippines though as its products have penetrated the padala market for Filipinos with relatives outside the country. Currently the business is being handled by the youngest son, Reinard Donn Stuart del Rosario. And its product manufacturing capability has been increased by the expansion of existing work areas and the creation of new and dedicated product lines

g0Rs February 23rd, 2007, 07:05 AM Proposed Metro Iligan Regional Infrastructure Development Project
The Philippine government is planning to accelerate the development of northern Mindanao by constructing industrial estates and improving infrastructures under "Cagayan De Oro - Iligan Corridor."
Metro Iligan Regional Agro-Industrial Center (MIRAIC), an industrial estate designated as national project by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and a core of the Corridor, will be constructed by private sector in the suburbs of the Municipality of Linamon, a neighboring Municipality of Iligan City, a capital of Lanao del Norte, and is expected to create jobs. In order to easily attract the foreign and domestic industries and to maximize its economic impact on the area, it is indispensable to urgently develop and improve off-site infrastructures, such as provincial roads, power plant and airport, concurrently with the development of MIRAIC.
On the other hand, the development of Lanao del Norte province is quite important with a view to sustaining stable peace and order situation in Mindanao. The province of Lanao del Norte belongs to Special Zone of Peace and Development (SZOPAD), a priority area for Mindanao development established under Southern Philippine Council for Peace and Development (SPCPD) as a fruit of the peace accord between the Philippine government and MNLF.
Metro Iligan Regional Infrastructure Development Project, worth P1.5 billion with the purpose of encouraging the investment in MIRAIC and promoting economic development in northern Mindanao, will improve the road network by paving and/or widening the existing provincial roads and assure stable power supply and reduce energy cost by constructing small-scale hydropower plant in the suburbs of MIRAIC. In addition, the Project contains training of the provincial government's staff and preparation of integrated area development plan and comprehensive land use plan for the area.
The loan proceeds will be used for concrete paving and/or widening of existing provincial roads (total extension: 54.4km), replacement of bridges (2 lanes, 15m wide), construction of small-scale run-off river type hydropower plant (11.9MW) and consulting services (e.g. detailed design, construction supervision).
The executing agency is the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte.

MILF broke poll gun ban: military
By Richel V. Umel
Lanao Correspondent
ILIGAN CITY -- While Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) members facilitated a peace advocacy in Barangay Rogongon of Iligan City, their bringing of firearms violated the Commission On Elections (Comelec) gun ban.
Colonel Reynard Ronnie Javier, commanding officer of the 103rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, said the MILF rebels were also visible in the roadside and vicinity of Barangay Pacalundo, Balo-i, Lanao del Norte Thursday morning.
A convoy of the Balikatan 2007 medical team was on its way to a medical mission in Pantao Ragat town.
Comelec Election Supervisor Joseph Hamilton Cuevas said no one is exempt from the Comelec gun ban and that police authorities should act on any violation.
Dr. Saf Dipatuan, spokesperson and caretaker of the Office of the Vice Chairman of Military Affairs of the MILF, said they did not violate the Comelec gun ban.
He said their people obtained clearance from the government-MILF panel and the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH).
As a recognized rebel group, MILF members could bring their firearms while wearing their official uniform, Dipatuan said.
The presence of MILF troops in Rogongon, who were escorted by police and Philippine Army personnel, was a gesture of an effective coordination, he added.
Dipatuan expressed his deepest gratitude to Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Cruz for providing five dump trucks that transported the MILF to Rogongon until they returned to their respective places.
The MILF is also scheduled to hold a peace advocacy forum in one of the barangays of Pantao Ragat and Balo-i towns this month and in March.

MILF conducts peace advocacy
Cagayan de Oro City (24 February) -- A peace advocacy program is presently being conducted in Iligan City and Lanao del Norte with participants from the local members of the Bangsa Moro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) and the civil communities of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
Brig. Gen. Edgardo M. Burrea, AFP, who chairs the Government Peace Negotiating Panel for the Talks with the MILF-Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (GRP-CCCH) has advised Col. Reynard Ronnie Y. Javier, Commanding Officer, 103rd Infrantry Brigade Philippine Army, and concerned Local Government Units (LGUs) of the BIAF-MILF 102nd Base Command’s intention to conduct the advocacy program.
Slated for February 18-26 at Barangay Rogonon, Iligan City and in Pantao Ragat town on February 26-28, the program will have participants coming from Pantao Ragat, Baloi and Tagoloan municipalities, explained Police Superintendent Virgilio Ranes, Philippine National Police (PNP) Iligan City Police Office Director.
According to Ranes, these undertakings seek to provide updates of the ongoing GRP-MILF peace talks and ceasefire agreement to MILF members and civilian communities as well as drum up popular support from all stakeholders particularly in the constituents of the 102nd Base Command, BIAF-MILF.
Ranes further said they had received instructions to allow the conduct of the activity and facilitate passage of the attendees to and from the venue. (PIA-Iligan)

The Pilot-Barangay Materials Recovery Facility which was formally launched last November 10, 2006 has been assessed as effective in its first three months of operation. The city’s Solid Waste Management Board Technical Working Committee disclosed that the Pilot-MRF has produced 182 kilograms of compost of which 150 kilograms have been sold. It has also sold 167 kilograms of recyclables to junk shops. MRF Project Manager Engr. Benjamin Quitos, Jr. disclosed that they have used the proceeds for the completion of some parts of the composting pens which have been recent additions to the original plan.
The City Solid Waste Management Board headed by Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz hopes that local barangays will soon start emulating the pilot-MRF in Zone 4, Barangay Del Carmen to help speed up the process of solving Iligan’s waste disposal problem.

yes, the city is already qualified for that and it was already raised during a session but our local CONGRESSMAN TIKBONG BADELLES didn't make a BILL proposing/enacting a LONE CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT for ILIGAN CITY and RE-DISTRICTING OF LANAO DEL NORTE citing SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHANGES in the province would entail bad outcome...I DON'T THINK SOCIO ECONOMICS was the reason...i think it's his political career that would get affected. TONZI February 24th, 2007, 02:48 PM the sanitary landfill should be next after the water rehabilitation so we can be a much cleaner city namn...and there should be an awareness to all ppl to segregate the biodegradable from the non-bio degradable materials...i think the MRF should be about putting stations in every BRGY. to where the GARBAGEs should be thrown so they will monitor who's not following the segregation and impose penalties to those who mixed the bio with the non bio...
g0Rs February 24th, 2007, 03:08 PM ^^ Hindi na matutuloy ang sanitary landfill kasi it's quite expensive. Ang plano ng city government is to put up small MRF stations in every barangay. thats not how it runs here in britain, as far as i can remember last elections not a single tv ad about the political parties, not a single poster in the streets... nada... nothing... zero... but for me the people still voted well enough to let the labour party win...
geez, we should stop that kind of culture... its just basically a waste of money for the electorals, waste of space, vandalism, on top of that its just all about fame then. There should be a party speech instead, televised and lets see how well they speak, how they cope up with pressure when thrown with questions, and see their abilities.
Posters dont say nothing at all.. its really taking the piss off me

Army, US troops wage war for people support
By Ryan Rosauro
Ozamiz correspondent
MUNAI, Lanao del Norte -- Philippine Army officials have acknowledged the important role of Balikatan's humanitarian relief component in winning the war against Moro rebels in another battle-front: the hearts and minds of their mass supporters.
Colonel Godofredo Paderanga, civil-military operations officer of the Army's 1st Infantry Division, admitted "we were wrong in waging war to achieve peace."
He added that "the guns and cannons were not the solution, but rather bringing socio-economic development to communities is more important to our mission."
Colonel Alvin Tiam Watt, commanding officer of the Army's 32nd Infantry Battalion, said the joint medical and dental civic action program (Medcap) is a big boost to the Army's efforts of winning the allegiance of locals into government authority.
Around 30 handgun-bearing US servicemen arrived here on Tuesday along with Filipino soldiers to man the humanitarian relief mission.
They provided minor surgery, dental care, medical and veterinary services.
An impoverished town of 10,000 people, Munai is the nerve center of the MILF in the province. It is home to a large concentration of relatives of Abdurahman Macapaar alias Commander Bravo, the controversial commander of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
Taking strides
Although located just 18 kilometers from the national highway, its poor road condition makes it remote and relatively isolated.
Munai Mayor Casan Maquiling, Al Hadj, said activities such as Medcap "bring government closer to the people" and hence wean them away from rebellion.
Maquiling said it is "highly likely" some MILF members were in town to enjoy the Medcap services.
He even suggested that a good number of clients could be relatives of Macapaar.
1st Lt. Elzhoor Jimlah, commander of an Army company stationed in Munai, acknowledged the role played by civil-military actions in advancing "to win the hearts and minds" of the Munai townsfolk.
Jimlah related that his unit's civic efforts are currently confined to initiating or supporting community undertakings like sports tournaments, due to limited resources.
But he said this has resulted to a village freed of MILF affectation. Previously, all the 26 barangays in the town are assessed to be MILF-influenced.
"We are patiently taking our strides; the goal cannot be attained overnight," quipped Jimlah, a former combatant of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) who was integrated into the Army in 2003.
The conduct of Balikatan 07's Medcap appears to follow the war pattern of 2000.
From Lanao del Norte as the first theater of war, the battles moved to other MILF strongholds in Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao.
The capture of Camp Bilal in Munai town led to a domino of MILF bases falling into government control including Camp Abubakar.
Today, the Medcap is first held in Lanao del Norte and then moves to Central Mindanao.
Jimlah hopes the holding of civic programs of such scale, though costlier, is sustained to also sustain their gains in shrinking the mass support base of the Moro rebellion.
A battle-scarred Army rank-and-file echoed the same thought in an invocation during the opening rites: ".may the US forces continue to help us financially and morally."

5 battle for Lanao Norte 1st district seat
By Lino Dela Cruz
Iligan Correspondent
ILIGAN CITY -- At least five candidates are vying for the congressional seat in the 1st District of Lanao del Norte for the May 2007 elections.
Lanao del Norte 1st District Representative Alipio Badelles, whose term expires on June 2007, has endorsed his daughter, lawyer Angelique Badelles, to replace him.
Angelique has taken her oath recently as chairwoman of the Kampi political party for the district.
Iligan City Councilor Vicente Belmonte, an oppositionist, has also expressed his plans to run for congressman in the district while lawyers Ver Quimco and Leo Zaragoza of the United Opposition have also expressed their intentions to seek the same post.
Meanwhile, Lanao del Norte Governor Imelda Dimaporo from the Lakas-CMD is also reportedly eyeing to run as representative of the Lanao del Norte 1st district.
Local political observers say the frontrunners in this coming congressional race are Badelles, Dimaporo, and Belmonte.
Although all of the candidates have not yet filed their respective certificates of candidacies, frequent sorties, "consultations," and visits to the city's 44 barangays and the seven towns of the 1st Congressional district in Lanao del Norte are now being held by these aspirants.
Meanwhile, in the 2nd District of Lanao del Norte, Marcos Abdulrahman Dimakuta Dimaporo, a brother of incumbent Representative Abdullah Dimaporo has already filed his certificate of candidacy. Representative Dimaporo is serving his second term as congressman.

Global Steel backs imminent tariff hike
By Ma. Elisa P. Osorio
The Philippine Star 02/26/2007
Global Steel Philippines Inc. (GSPI) the country’s largest steel manufacturer, said an increase in steel tariff will help develop the local industry and lessen dependence on imported steel.
"It is indeed ironic that imports continue to flood the local market on one hand, while Global Steel, which manufactures competitively priced, world-class steel products, is forced to export 70 percent of its production to its overseas customers," GSPI managing director Lalit Sehgal said in a statement.
Leaders of the steel industry, especially those in the galvanizing sector, have expressed concern that the impending increase in tariff rates of hot-rolled coils (HRC) and cold-rolled coils (CRC) as provided under Executive Order 375 will lead to higher prices of construction materials.
Manufacturers, specifically those in the iron and steel industry, explained that raw materials for the manufacture of reinforcing bars and roofing sheets such as billets, HRC, CRC and zinc are basically imported.
This means an increase in the prices of the imported raw materials, a direct result of EO 375 which more than doubles the tariff to seven percent from three percent, will result in higher domestic prices of construction materials.
The steel industry’s flat products sector likewise expressed concern on the implementation of the tariff hike as it will unduly penalize producers and burden end-users.
However GSPI, the firm who took over National Steel Corp. (NSC) in Iligan, has petitioned the government for tariff protection.
"Importers who allege that the implementation of EO 375 will lead to price hike of HRC and CRC are deliberately misleading the public," Sehgal said. "This baseless claim is being done only to discredit the viability of serious large-scale steel producers, and encourages import or trading businesses, regardless of domestic supply and capability, undermining the country’s long-term development priorities and requirements."
GSPI also claimed there is a need to recalibrate the existing tariff from three percent to seven percent for HRC and CRC.
"International prices and demand determine domestic prices, and any tariff increase serves to protect the country from the influx of low-quality steel products and threats to the continued viability of large steel manufacturers," Sangram Mohanty, GSPI head of corporate communications said.

MSU-IIT TEAM BEATS U.P. DILIMAN IN THE 4TH SIEMENS PLC PROGRAMMING CONTEST
Written by: Nancy N. Allen
Thursday, 22 February 2007
Another historic milestone for MSU-IIT took place on February 16, 2007 at the Jose Rizal University in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, when the MSU-IIT team composed of College of Engineering (BS ECE) students Roel F. Pantonial and Ruel B. Valencia, with SET coach Prof. Cesar S. Gabo grabbed the National Champion title at the 4th Siemens National Finals PLC Programming Contest. Awards for this victorious feat included a P 300,000.00 worth 5 units S7-200 PLC from Siemens for MSU-IIT as the winning school, P 25,000.00 for both the student winners, and a P 28,000.00 training package and a Siemens cell phone for the team coach.
Five prestigious schools competed for the event, yet U.P. Diliman, the two-time consecutive Champion for the 2004/2006 National Finals ranked only first runner-up, while the University of San Jose Recoletos, Cebu City, was second runner-up. Other participant schools included the University of the East, Bulacan State University, and the University of Perpetual Help-Laguna. The quizmaster for the event was the Siemens Training Manager of the Automation and Drive Division, Mr. Joselito Torres, who also assisted by Siemens PLC representatives Rod Go, Rey Atienza and Princess Caraan.
“This was a tough event for the MSU-IIT team,” says Prof Gabo, “considering they had to beat the two-time National Champion which was U.P. Diliman. But our students were far better in programming this time since they solved 3 programming questions out of 4, compared to U.P. which solved only 1.” The recent contest design consisted of 20 objective questions each worth 1 point and 4 programming questions each worth 5 points. Overall, MSU-IIT scored 25 points while U.P. got 20 points, a really quite narrow edge-over.
It should be noted that MSU-IIT has been the indefatigable Regional Champion for Mindanao since 2003 but in the National Finals, it had to climb its way up from 6th place in 2003, to 5th place in 2004, to 2nd place in 2006 and now in 2007, as first. Indeed, the time has come for MSU-IIT to be “first” in the National Finals round. A well deserved “first” now, and hopefully, it will stay that way for a long time.

Yes. It's true. :)
langyaw February 26th, 2007, 12:24 PM such an eyesore every post election because of all those candidates faces on the walls...
thats not how it runs here in britain, as far as i can remember last elections not a single tv ad about the political parties, not a single poster in the streets... nada... nothing... zero... but for me the people still voted well enough to let the labour party win...
geez, we should stop that kind of culture... its just basically a waste of money for the electorals, waste of space, vandalism, on top of that its just all about fame then. There should be a party speech instead, televised and lets see how well they speak, how they cope up with pressure when thrown with questions, and see their abilities.
Posters dont say nothing at all.. its really taking the piss off me

nehpets16 February 27th, 2007, 07:20 AM i have reasons to believe that Iligan City can afford a sports complex and other infrastructure projects of only it had the power to put a little tax such that it puts in some revenue to the city to spend on the project but isn't a burden to the people. If the city can collect even 100 pesos for every Iliganon, it can pay for its projects for the duration of 20 years... i mean, if the city will take the initiative, it can pay for its projects without relying on the national governement. that's what happens here in the US, local communities who wants to take on something huge can take initiatives because in the end, it is them who benefits. remember too that building such an infrastructure will host major events that means further revenue to the city which can then be used for other new projects. leasable space can also help pay for the project and shorten the loan length.
that's how taxes should be implemented. there should be a regional tax and then a national tax. (hati sila in a certain percentage--but the total tax amount should be equal to whatever we are paying as of the moment).
... to be continued ... tulog sa ko, klase pa ugma...

^^ i would love to see a sports complex built in Iligan. yes building such an infrastructure by hosting major events will mean further revenue for the city. The money will then be used for other new projects but IMHO the city gov't is not keen on building one (like Mindanao Civic Center) as of this time.
im not sure if the philippines has regional tax.

Zamboanga City to host 2007 PRISAA Games
Written by Rico Biliran / MindaNews
DAVAO CITY (Feb 23/MindaNews) – Zamboanga City will host the National Private School Athletic Association (PRISAA) Championship next year, bringing the games back to Western Mindanao after four years.
Western Mindanao PRISAA “accepted” the 2007 national games hosting after Davao Region PRISAA begged off, according to Davao Region PRISAA Athletic Manager Engr. Joaquin Sarabia.
“Many have wanted it to be held here in Davao but we don’t have a sports complex, “Sarabia said”.
Zamboanga City will host the national games of private schools for the third time. It hosted the games in 1993 and 2004. Lanao del Norte in Northern Mindanao was also among those considered to host the national games but many delegations expressed security concerns.
Lanao Del Norte has one of the best sports complex in the country equipped with world-class sports facilities. It has hosted the first Mindanao Friendship Games and Palarong Pambansa.
Games on tap in the PRISAA games include baseball, basketball, volleyball, swimming and track and field. Some 5, 000 athletes, coaches and officials from 17 regions across the country are expected to attend the annual sports event.

Arroyo empowers 16 Muslim sultans
MANILA - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has created a Lanao Advisory Council (LAC) that would empower the 16 Royal Sultanates in Mindanao to make recommendations on the promotion of peace and development in their area.
Arroyo issued Executive Order (EO) 602, which establishes LAC, which would advise her President on issues and problems affecting the 16 Sultanates' areas.
The 16 Royal Sultanates are recognized in the provinces of Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte, Marawi City, Iligan City, and several towns in the provinces of Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon.
Under the EO, the LAC shall give advice and recommendations to Arroyo on matters that would promote peace and development, facilitate the settlement of conflicts, and assist in the implementation of government programs in their areas of responsibility.
The EO guarantees that each of the 16 Royal Sultanates shall have equal representation in the LAC where each sultanate shall be represented by their respective sultan.
Under the EO, the members of the LAC shall elect among themselves the chairman and vice chairman of the Council.

this is what i thought before that the SULTANS of LANAO and other parts of Mindanao should be empowered so they can be the leaders of the Muslims whom they will look up to...and also they are the ones who also know what the Muslim thinks and moves...this will make sure the peace negotiations and cooperation among the Muslims will really prosper...this is nice news

Region 10 exports top US$675-million, exceeds target by 5% and last year
By Mike Baños
Exports from Northern Mindanao (Region 10) last year topped an unprecedented US$674.7-million, jumping 25% over the previous year’s figure thanks to a strong showing from Iligan City and Lanao del Norte and exceeding the export target for 2006 by five percent.
Consolidated figures released this week by the Department of Trade and Industry in Region 10 show coconut-based products as the region’s top export item with 47% of the region’s export pie, closely followed by iron and steel products with 17% mostly sourced from Iligan City’s two coconut oil mills and cold rolled steel products from the Global Steel Works, Inc. (formerly National Steel Corp.) steel mill.
Processed food products from the Del Monte Philippines Inc. and Nestle Philippines, Inc. plants in Cagayan de Oro were also significant contributors, with 16% and 12% respectively of total exports for 2006.
Powered by the crude and cochin coconut oils, and copra solvent extraction pellets from the Granex and San Miguel coconut oil mills and Global Steel products, Lanao del Norte overtook traditional export leader Misamis Oriental for the first time ever, accounting for half of all export revenues
although the latter also made significant contributions to the top two export commodities with sintered ore from the Philippine Sinter Corporation in Villanueva, oleochemicals from the expanded Pilipinas Kao, Inc. plant in Jasaan and dessicated coconut from Fiesta Brands in Medina.
Nevertheless, Misamis Oriental remains a significant export contributor with 46% of the region total, and a more diversified export portfolio including other commodities like wood and forest products from the CATIMCO Group in Cagayan de Oro and other wood processors at the Phividec Industrial Estate and Portland cement from the Holcim Philippines plant in Lugait.
Northern Mindanao remains to be one of the Philippines’ fastest growing regions in terms of export growth with a 21.13% average annual growth rate for 2003-2005 compared to 6.17% nationally. Its main export markets for the period were Europe, Japan, USA, China, Malaysia and Korea.
The Northern Mindanao Regional Development Council approved the Northern Mindanao Export Development Plan for 2007-2010 during its 73rd full council meeting held Dec. 14, 2006 at Tangub City increasing exports by 20% annually for the period, from US$772-million in 2007 to US$1.335-billion by 2012.
Among the strategies approved by the RDC-10 to attain this objective are the institutionalization and strengthening of the region’x export sector through the creation of two export technical working groups under the Economic Development Committee, strengthening the convergence of support through industry clustering, reducing cost of doing business to ensure a conducive business environment and diversification of export products and expansion of export markets, and policy advocacy on issues perceived to be beneficial to exports such as the reduction of shipping costs and customs brokerage fees.
