According to the interview in RMN (Radio Mindanao Network, dxIC most likely) to the said councilor, there are three locations that can be seen via Internet: Central Monitoring Station, El Centro, and Iligan City Plaza. You have to key in the IP address in the address bar of any internet browser in order to access the website. Mayor Lawrence Cruz is supportive to Rovira's project on installing surveillance cameras. It was local government's plan to broadcast the videos for the fiesta this coming September to see the Iliganons worldwide. There are more sites to access after the city government is done on reconstructing the website. Mayor Lawrence Cruz’s Crusaders and the Cotta Shrine cagers of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog open their series at 6p.m. today at the Gov. Angel Medina Sr. gym in Ozamiz City. Ozamiz is seeking its fourth straight crown in the tourney supported by Sulpicio Lines, Spring Cooking Oil, Yahoo Phils., San Miguel Beer, Caltex, Sun Cellular, Firefly Lightings, Trans Asia Shipping Lines, Molten, Nature’s Spring, Basketball TV and Viva Prime Channel. After trying the game for the last time at 65 with a split at the stripes with four seconds left, veteran Bong Morata grabbed the rebound and attempted. His shot was too strong, but the ball went to Cruz, who quickly put in for only his second field goal of the night. "This is sweet. Nat (Cruz) didn’t give up on the last play. It’s the best win for us so far in this conference," said Iligan mentor Eric Samson. Iloilo grabbed the lead for the last time at 66-65 on Eldrin Senieres’ triple with one minute remaining. Then came Marata’s free throw and Cruz’s decisive putback. Scores: Iligan 68 – Matias 12, Saladaga 12, Cabili 12, Hardin 6, Cruz 6, Marata 6. Guiyab 4, Go 4, Kalaw 2, Gatchalian 2, Sta. "This is because the sultans are still being looked up to by reason of traditional respect from their constituents which is a big factor in achieving peace and development in their areas," said Secretary Jesus Dureza of Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process. "It's actually the sultans who the government sought assistance from in resolving cases such as kidnap for ransom that happened in the past. But more than that is our concern to improve the lives of the people in their communities and let them have access on some of our resources, because admittedly, there are still areas, especially in Lanao del Sur, which are still a little underprivileged," he said. Executive Order No. 602 which was signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on February 2007, created the Lanao Advisory Council (LAC), which is composed of 16 Royal Sultanates from the two Lanao provinces including the cities of Marawi and Iligan and some towns in Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon. Dureza said the LAC will be provided an annual funding of P1 million for its administrative and operational expenses to be sourced out from the budget of the Office of the President. Meanwhile, the 16 Royal Sultanates have manifested their willingness to participate and contribute towards the development of Mindanao and the promotion of peace in their area pf responsility during their recent oath taking at Pryce Plaza Hotel, this city. "We are very thankful to President Arroyo for issuing EO 602 which is the first of its kind issued by a President of our country. Malaki ang magagawa ng LAC (the LAC can do much) for the peace process," said Sultan Topaan D. Disomimba, Sultan Bzar of Masiu, LAC Chairperson. "Hindi mareresolba ang problema sa Mindanao sa pamamaraan ng giyera kundi sa mga peace process. Tuloy-tuloy 'yan kahit maraming nanghaharang (The Mindanao problem can never be resolved by war but through the peace process which we hope to continue despite the obstacles). We are willing to give peace a chance in Mindanao," he added. Other LAC officials who took their oaths include Sultans Farouk R. Dureza has been conferred the traditional title "Ayonan Datu sa Pilipinas" by the Sultans after their oath-taking. Complete with the ceremonial installation of a Royal Diokeet or Crown and Diawa or Kris as symbols of power and authority, the title which means "Prime Mover or Chief Decision-Maker," was presented by the group led by its Chairperson, Sultan Topaan Disomimba of Masiu. After the coronation, Dureza thanked the sultanates for their trust and confidence in conferring him such title, saying he has accepted it with great humility and pride in his capacity as Secretary of the Peace Process and promised to perform all the obligations and responsibilities that go with it. "There is so much that the traditional leadership will be able to do to assist the Philippine government headed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the whole officialdom of seeing to it that we have peace and development in our midst," Dureza said. He said during the time of former President Fidel V. Ramos, the municipality of Tamparan, Lanao del Sur through Disomimba's father also conferred the title of adopted son to the Secretary and that his coronation is just the culmination of that adoption. "Somehow I consider this an acknowledgement for my efforts in working for peace and development of the whole country. This is an honor that I would always cherish with more enthusiasm for working on the many challenges of Mindanao," he said. Dureza said the country has indeed a very diverse culture as there are Muslims, Lumads and Christians, "and out of this diversity, we must look for opportunities that make up for sustainable development." To be able to do this, he said "we have to understand and accept our cultural differences. This is the role of the sultanate that we have to pursue." "We have to pursue social conditions to build relationships and win peace not through fighting or conflicts but by fostering understanding of our diverse cultures," Dureza stressed. Moreover, he said, instead of mainstreaming people or converting them, "we must allow each one to live his own way and accept his/her differences and in so doing, we are able to live together as one big society." "I am sure the sultanates will symbolize the traditional leadership that came before government and the republic as they govern with all legitimate authority in their own areas of responsibility," he added. He urged the 14 sultanates to preserve this traditional hierarchy of governance "which we found to be very effective in solving conflicts or disputes, such as 'rido' or feuds among and between families." "I hope with this conferment, the government and the sultanates will be together as 'one' in working for the peace and development of Mindanao," he concluded. Consider these advantages! http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m300/gors_iligan/economic.jpg Source (http://www.cdsea.org/db/cds_cityprofile3.asp?ID=183) Iligan is blessed with abundant natural resources, as well as with favorable climatic and geographical condition, i.e., Iligan is earthquake and typhoon-free. Centrally located between Visayas and Mindanao, Iligan is one of the priority investment areas in the Philippines. It is the home of the country's steel industry and Mindanao's electric power source. It is a major component of the Cagayan-Illigan Corridor and the BIMP-EAGA growth corridor. Economic development is directed towards agriculture and tourism, at the same time, maintain Iligan City's role as industrial center. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m300/gors_iligan/sociocultural.jpg Source (http://www.cdsea.org/db/cds_cityprofile3.asp?ID=183) The emergence of manufacturing industries in the 1950s and the expansion of the biggest steel corporation in the country in the 1980s resulted in a notable rise in the population due to migration. The strong linkages between the City Government and civil society increases the responsiveness of government programs to the needs of the constituency. Approximately 6,000 hectares are allocated for urban use, as prescribed by the city's zoning ordinance. It has a circumferential-radial type of development. This pattern creates a hierarchy of functions (and size) that distributes some of the activities from the central business district to the nodes (north and south growth areas) around them. These nodes shall be interconnected through a radial and circumferential road system. This design will foster a more efficient circulation system and corridor development. In terms of transport, Iligan is accessible through air, land and water transportation systems. It enjoys from an efficient transport system to move people, goods and services in a safely and speedy manner. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m300/gors_iligan/environment.jpg Source (http://www.cdsea.org/db/cds_cityprofile3.asp?ID=183) A large portion of its land is categorized as environmentally and legally constrained areas: elevated land with slopes of more than 18 degrees, micro and major watersheds, rivers and natural waterways, mined areas, legally constrained agrarian reform lands, SAFDZ and Non SAFDZ areas, ancestral domains and timberlands. The rugged and mountainous topography of Iligan City is undoubtedly one of its major advantages. It is endowed with numerous waterfalls, caves, springs and mountain peaks. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m300/gors_iligan/governance.jpg Source (http://www.cdsea.org/db/cds_cityprofile3.asp?ID=183) Guided by the principles of sound moral foundation, transparency, accountability and ethics of effective implementation. Mayor Lawrence Cruz’s Crusaders and the Cotta Shrine cagers of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog open their series at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Gov. Angel Medina Sr. gym in Ozamiz City. After tying the game for the last time at 65 with a split at the stripes with four seconds left, veteran Bong Morata grabbed the rebound and attempted. His shot was too strong, but the ball went to Cruz, who quickly put it in for only his second field goal of the night. “This is sweet. Nat (Cruz) didn’t give up on the last play,” said Iligan coach Eric Samson. “It’s the best win for us so far in this conference.” The loss was a big blow to the Warriors of businessman Robert Uy and Mayor Jerry Trenas, who came from the wildcard phase to inch a game away from the finals after beating Iligan in Game 1 of the semis series. The Warriors trimmed Iligan’s 41-31 lead to 38-41 at the turn. The scores: ILIGAN 68—Matias 12, Saladaga 12, Cabili 12, Hardin 6, Cruz 6, Marata 6, Guiyab 4, Go 4, Kalaw 2, Gatchalian 2, Sta. Angel Medina gym here. Marlon Kalaw and rookie Ian Saladaga led a blistering rally in the payoff period that saw Mayor Lawrence Cruz’s Crusaders wrest control of the game after playing catch-up for three quarters. Kalaw and Saladaga combined for 12 points as Iligan opened a seven-point 80-73 lead and moved a step closer to its first-ever title in the four-year regional cagefest supported by Sulpicio Lines, Spring Cooking Oil, Yahoo Phils., San Miguel Beer, Caltex, Sun Cellular, Firefly Lightings, Trans Asia Shipping Lines, Molten, Nature’s Spring, BasketballTV and Viva Prime Channel. “This is really big. I have to give it to my players for holding their ground. But this is not yet over. I expect Ozamiz to bounce back but we are ready,” said Iligan coach Eric Samson. The Crusaders try to wrap up the crown against Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog’s Cotta Shrine cagers at 6 p.m. today at the MSU-IIT gym in Iligan City. Marata led the Crusaders with 21 points on six-of-nine shooting while Nat Cruz added 18 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks. With reigning MVP Marlon Basco carrying the load, Ozamiz led 27-21, 46-45 and 67-66 in the first three stanzas. Please restore it to its original dimensions, please! :ohno: If you think reducing the video dimensions help in speeding up the stream, it doesn't. The refresh rate is still at 1 frame / 5 seconds. Since the image size is just 7kb putting it back to 1x should not be a problem even with slower machines. :poke: The image size is still the same in my monitor except for Central Monitoring and City Plaza's cam still can't view :ohno: Alingatong August 14th, 2007, 11:59 AM I recently got a copy of the 2007 Iligan City tourism brochure and Roadtrip Iligan magazine. Here are my comments: Re new iligan city tourism brochure 1. Colorful...salamat naman. I remember few years ago may nakuha ako brochure slightly colored yung isa and the other one was black & white pero same lang ang content  ) 2. PLEAZZZZ don't use recycled photos. I still see some. Kailangan updated palagi when you're promoting. more aerial shots of the CBD kung pwede 3. Iligan's Population is 298,000? is this updated? I think 1995/2000 data pa 'to. 4.Medyo magulo ang map hehe In Tourism, every detail matters! Re RoadTrip Iligan 1. We have iligan promotional tarpaulin at different airports: Kalibo, Aklan, Tagbilaran in Bohol and Camiguin. Meron ba tayo sa mga major airports? 2.Good to know that the tourism staff and some residents of Buruun conducted a clean-up & landscaping at Mimbalut Falls. Last July 8 grabe ang dumi ng daanan from Fisheries going to Mimbalut. Overall...may improvement. OPINYON ko lang po ito. Saan tayo pwedeng humingi/bumili ng kopya? Available na kaya yan sa Tourism info Office? I have to see it myself also. :) FrancisXavier August 14th, 2007, 12:50 PM anything about Rescue811? g0Rs August 14th, 2007, 03:22 PM Saan tayo pwedeng humingi/bumili ng kopya? Umel Lanao correspondent Iligan City's Crusader team beats Ozamiz City Shrine Cotta team last Saturday night during the National Basketball Conference (NBC) best of three series game 1 with score of 88-83. Played at Medina College gymnasium, Ozamiz took the lead, 27-21, in the first quarter and sustained this in the third quarter. However, the Iligan Crusaders changed strategies and led until the end of the last quarter with Bong Marata scoring 21 points and Nat Cruz with 18 points. Cruz was injured due to an intentional foul at the last quarter. Sports coordinator Freddie Siao said his office has all-out support from Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Cruz to nurture and build a well-disciplined team to bring the good name of Iligan in all fields of sport events. Mayor Cruz said the Crusaders will double their efforts in Tuesday's second encounter with Ozamiz City in Game 2 at its home court in Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) gymnasium at 6 p.m. Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojenog meanwhile said Ozamiz has garnered prestige as a four-time champion of NBC basketball tournament. Saturday's game was witnessed by Monsignor Jeemar Vera Cruz of Iligan City-Lanao del Norte diocese, Councilor Jose Zalzos, MSU President Ricardo De Leon, and other officials. These are only some of the scenes that go with the rhythm of the drums when cadets of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 2008 will perform the Silent Drill at the Pelaez Sports Center, this city on Aug. 21, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. About 74 cadets belonging to the class, of whom 9 are women, will take part in the exhibition to give, not only the city residents but also those of the neighboring areas, a glimpse of what it's like. "This is our way of bringing PMA closer to the people. We cannot bring them to Baguio City, home of PMA, to see the cadets do the Silent Drill. So we bring the cadets to do it here and give our residents the opportunity to interact with them," Major Samuel C. Sagun, Chief, Public Affairs Office of the 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, said. Himself a member of PMA "Tanglaw-Diwa" Class of 1992, Sagun said this time the PMA cadets will deviate from the tradition of giving arrival honors exclusively to the President of the country, visiting heads of states, foreign dignitaries and top cabinet officials of the government. "At about 8:00 a.m. of the same day, Aug. 21, PMA Class 2008 will render such honors to the newly elected Mayor of the City, Atty. Constantino Jaraula at the city's Kagawasan Kiosk, Divisoria Bandstand, after which those interested to pose for a photo session with the cadets in their full dress gray parade uniforms may be accommodated," he said. While in the city, the cadets will be given time to enjoy the ambiance of the malls, join their foster families and see some of the tourist attractions, as well as engage themselves in friendly athletic games with the PMA Alumni Association at 4ID, PA, Camp Evangelista, Barangay Patag. They will also do school visits to show some visual presentations about the PMA, their life as cadets to include the benefits they enjoy as government scholars and other information about the PMA Cadetship Program. The visit of PMA Class 2008 is among the preparatory activities lined-up by the local government unit of Cagayan de Oro for the celebration of the Aug. 28 feast of St. Augustine, the city patron saint. It is also set a few days before the PMA entrance examination given Aug. 26, 2007 in several testing centers nationwide for upcoming cadets to compose Class 2011. To qualify, applicants must be a natural-born Filipino citizen, physically fit and of good moral character, single and have never been married, stands at least 5'4" (162.56 cm.) if male and 5"2" (157.48 cm.) if female, at least a high school graduate with a grade point average of 85% or higher and at least 17 years old but not a day older than 22 years on April 1, 2008. In region 10, the PMAEE will be conducted in the following testing centers: Cagayan de Oro College (COC), Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis University (MU), Ozamiz City and MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City. Meanwhile, Sagun said applications for the PMAEE can be downloaded and accepted online at http://www.pma.ph, hence, encouraged to save on time and cost on the part of the applicants. It broke ground last Sept. 22, 2006. NPC Nature’s Park is located within an eight-hectare area inside the Agus 6 & 7 Hydroelectric Power Plant Complex in Fuentes, Maria Cristina, the park will host the Hydro Power Science Centrum, the first such facility of NPC in the Mindanao region. Among other amenities are a museum and exhibit hall; conference rooms; an orientation hall. The Nature’s Park will be constructed in three phases, and is expected to be completed within three years. Phase I will feature an orchidarium; a durian/rambutan/lanzones orchard; natural waterfalls; a bat park; a crocodile farm; a grotto in honor of Our Lady of Lourdes; a wishing well; and viewing decks along the banks of the Agus River . Phase II, calls for the construction of an aviary; a mini-zoo; a trekking site; a hanging bridge; cottages and sheds, and a children’s island park. Phase III involves the construction and development of special areas for kayak rides and white-water rafting; a site for rock and wall climbing; fishing grounds; cable car stations with viewing decks. NPC said that the initial funding for the project will be sourced from the projected savings in MinGen’s 2006 budget. Once operational, the nature park is expected to bring in additional revenues of about P6 million per year, thus allowing NPC to recover the project cost within a four-year period. Entrance fee will be less than P50 . NPC said the project will enhance the tourism potential of the Maria Cristina Falls and will raise public awareness on NPC’s hydro power operations. At the same time, the park is designed to protect and preserve the environment, while providing livelihood and business opportunities for the host-communities living near the Agus complex. g0Rs August 14th, 2007, 05:06 PM ^^ @Alingatong do you have the latest update regarding the construction of NPC Nature's Park? Both. By geographical location: By region, by city and by province. Regional threads are pinned to the top. If the province can't sustain its own thread and there is an existing thread for the capital then both are merged. By topic: This usually happens when a thread for a city or province goes too fast. For example, 2 years ago, there was only 1 thread for Cebu but then it went too fast that there was a new thread every 5 days so it was divided by topic into the main thread, the projects and construction thread, the heritage thread and the infrastructure thread. Del Callar for donating five solar panels to Barangay Rogongon in Iligan City.Approved last June 19, 2007 by the Sangguniang Panlungsod was Resolution No. 07-396, which expresses “the city’s heartfelt thanks to Cyril C. Del Callar, President, National Power Corporation, for giving five (5) units of solar panels for the hinterland barangays of Iligan City”. “What is praiseworthy about it was that NPC gave the panels without cost to the City Government,” the 13-member City Council added. NPC’s solar electrification project in Barangay Ragongon will benefit 51 households in Purok Limunsudan, which is home to indigenous tribes like the Higaonons and the Maranaos. With a land area of more than 9,000 hectares, the said purok is the biggest part of Barangay Ragongon. Unfortunately, Purok Limunsudan is also the most remote part of the barangay, located roughly 27 kilometers from the city proper and standing 250-1,500 meters above sea level. Because of Iligan City Council thanks PCCDC its distance, the purok has very little access to basic government services, including electricity. With the help of the Iligan City Government, NPC’s Small Power Utilities Group installed five solar battery charging stations in Purok Limunsudan last July 5-9. By SPUG’s estimates, the energy generated by the solar panels will be enough to power up small appliances like cassette radios, as well as the 10-watt fluorescent lamps that NPC installed in each of the 51 beneficiary-houses. The project is also expected to benefit the two small schools in the purok. The solar electrification project in Purok Limunsudan is NPC’s prompt response to the request of some local government leaders in Iligan City, who expressed concern that some barangays in the city remain without electricity due to their remoteness and the prohibitive cost of energizing these barangays. During its presentation in May, GSPI committed to finally produce tin plates to meet domestic demand. At present, majority of the country’s tin plate requirement are imported from nearby Asian countries. The Philippines is supposed to be GSPI’s only production site for tin plate. But GSPI is producing hot rolled coils as well as cold rolled coils at its Iligan plant. Delays in tin plate is expected to cut GSPI’s total sales revenues for the year. GSPI said it intends to sell 32,000 metric tons (MT) of tin plates for the rest of 2007 which would easily translate to million in sales revenues for the year. Such proceeds are expected to account for 5 percent of GSPI’s 2007 revenue forecast of 3.63 million. The controversy arose a few days after voting day on May 14 this year, when the padlocks of three ballot boxes containing the Certificates of Canvass (COC) from the towns of Kauswagan, Bacolod and Maigo, Lanao del Norte were foundto have been destroyed. National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) investigators confirmed the ballot boxes were tampered. The lawyers of United Opposition congressional candidate and former Iligan City councilor Vicente Belmonte Jr. contended that there was tampering of the COCs of the three towns using correction fluid. They asked the Commission on Election (Comelec) to set aside the canvassing of these COCs because of manifest errors and base the canvassing on other authentic copies of COCs in the possession of the National Movement for Free Election-Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (Namfrel-PPCRV) and the copy of the Liberal Party (LP). On these authentic copies, Belmonte garnered 59,932 votes, Angelique Badelles (Kampi) got 46,600 and former Lanao del Norte governor Imelda Dimaporo (Lakas-CMD) had 43,403 votes. Belmonte filed a petition to correct the manifest errors on the original COCs of the three towns showing Dimaporo winning in the three towns with 26,213 votes, thereby offsetting Belmonte's lead. The Comelec directed the Special Provincial Board of Canvassers (SPBOC) to refrain from proclaiming any candidate and further directed it to bring the controversial ballot boxes containing the questioned COCs to the Comelec 2nd Division in Manila. Dimaporo's lawyers then filed a petition with the Comelec 2nd Division for lack of jurisdiction, contending that the case at hand is a pre-proclamation case and should be resolved by the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET). But the Comelec 2nd Division granted Belmonte's petition to exclude the controversial COCs from the towns and Dimaporo's lawyers elevated the case to the Comelec en banc for resolution. As of this date, the Comelec en banc has yet to calendar the hearing on the controversy and resolve the case. Constituents from Iligan City and the towns of Linamon, Kauswagan, Bacolod, Maigo, Kolambugan, Tubod, Baroy in Lanao del Norte, which constitute the First Congressional District, are eagerly waiting for the Comelec en banc to resolve the controversy so that the proclamation of the winning candidate will not be delayed further. But it seems the drought is about to come to an end as the Duterte Agilas opens its title hunt Aug. 16 at the start of the basketball event of the RRD-Kadayawan Sports 5 p.m. at the Davao City Recreation Center. The Agilas will face two Cebu teams, M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala and Arthro Kontra Arthritis, as well as teams from Iligan City of Mayor Lawrence Cruz and Montaña Pawnshop of Armand Quibod in the five-day tournament which is part of the 17 events in the Kadayawan sports festival. Bannered by skills-rich homegrown talents Eder Saldua and Jay-r Atablanco, who once played in the Philippine Basketball League, the Agilas is expected to do everything possible to cop its first Kadayawan title and end the drought. The Agilas had the chance to bag its first Kadayawan title after beating the highly-fancied Ozamiz Cotta in the semis last year but just fell short to the potential 2007 PBA draft first pick JR Quinahan-led Arthro Kontra Arthritis. The Agilas has been consistent in making it to the final four in the previous Kadayawan leagues and many are expecting that the Davao City goodwill team will reach the finals this year. Expected to back up Saldua and Atablanco in the backcourt are John Gonzaga, Louie Medalla and sweet-shooting Roderick Ramos while Arian Daja and Chris Jatico are anticipated to provide the firepower at the paint for the Agilas. Meanwhile, security will be tight in the whole duration of the tournament and City Sports Coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go is requesting the spectators to cooperate. "We know it is going to be overcrowded and our security personnel will be strict. Alam mo naman basta basketball, talagang puntahan nang tao 'yan," said Go. Admission is free, said Go, as per instruction of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. The opening ceremony is scheduled at 5 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Davao City Recreation Center with Acting Mayor Sara Zimmerman Duterte leading officials in the opening rites. AGUIBA The government is anticipating the opening of an Iligan ferro-nickel project and the construction of the $ 120-million Masbate gold mine this year which will form part of some $ 500 million in mining investment in 2007. Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Director Horacio C. Ramos said the Platinum Group of Metals Corp.’s (PGMC) ferro-nickel project will open next month with a capacity of 36,900 metric tons (MT) per year. Moreover, a separate 11,100 MT per year ferronickel project of PGMC in Manticao, Misamis Oriental will also be opened next year. A softening of nickel prices is apparently not stopping the development of nickel projects in the country. "The price of nickel five years ago was $ 3.50 per pound, then it went up to $ 25 per pound. Now it’s at $ 15. That’s still good," Ramos said. The MGB chief said another major mine that’s up for construction anytime is the Masbate gold project. "Its mineral processing permit has been approved. We already committed approval of the project’s feasibility study so they can construct immediately next month," he said. Production from the Masbate project may start in 1.5 to two years. Another project that may start production within one year is the Carmen copper mine of Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corp. "We saw heavy equipment costing million present at the Carmen copper mine," he said. Ramos said that from an estimated 0 million mining investment this year, this could reach to $ 1.6 billion by 2008 or a tripled figure brought about by the construction activities of companies including that of Oceana Gold in the copper-gold project in Nueva Vizcaya. The Masbate gold project (where Toronto Stock Exchange-listed CGA Mining Ltd. just came in early this year for an investment) is estimated to have a gold indicated resource of 3.306 million ounces and 1.766 million ounces of inferred gold resource at a grade of 0.5 grams per metric ton. Ore throughput is placed at four million MT per year. Santos Garcia, the police's K-9 unit team leader, said two of the vintage bombs were recovered from the Treasure Steel Corporation (formerly billet shop of the National Steel Corporation) in the village of Suarez while eight others were taken from a junkshop in the village of Tominobo. Garcia said the management of Treasure Steel Corporation and the junk shop owner told police that the bombs were sold to them as junk metal. Bomb experts warned that tinkering with vintage bombs could be dangerous. Garcia said a 60-millimeter mortar shell exploded inside the NSC melting bucket a few years ago. The technical men did not notice that a vintage bomb was among the scrap metal being melted for reuse. No one was hurt in the explosion but it damaged the roof of the billet shop. The Crusaders withstood a fierce rally by the Cotta Shrine cagers to sweep the best-of-three series and foil Ozamiz’s bid for a fourth straight championship. Ozamiz cut Iligan’s 80-73 lead to one on back-to-back triples by Marlon Basco and Bruce Dacia with 15 seconds left. But Arden Guiyab split his charities off a Billy Bansil foul and the Crusaders escaped with the upset as Orly Alvarado’s desperation triple rimmed out at the buzzer. It was actually the first-ever championship for Mayor Lawrence Cruz’s Crusaders in the country’s premier regional cagefest which was first dominated by Tribu Sugbu and then Ozamiz of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog. Marlon Kalaw had a big hand in making this happen as he scattered 21 points, grabbed five rebounds and issued five assists after scoring 12 in the first game, which Iligan won, 88-83. The Cotta Shrine dribblers refused to give up, however, and grabbed the lead, 63-61, going into the payoff period on the snipings of Dacia and Bansil. Basco, a former two-time MVP, Dacia, Iloilo’s Ruel Balgos and Iligan’s Harold Sta. Yes @g0Rs here's the news: Oro city police chief steps down Thursday, August 16, 2007 By Stephen Capillas CAGAYAN DE ORO -- City Police Chief Aurelio Trampe will turn over his post to his deputy following a Camp Crame directive transferring him to the Police Regional Office. Trampe's transfer comes amid persistent calls from City Hall officials and several sectors for his relief or transfer and for Deputy City Police Director Antonio Montalba to replace him. In a television interview, Trampe thanked local officials for supporting the city police and said his transfer was part of Camp Crame's revamp of police offices in the country. The Iligan City Police Office was also reportedly revamped by the national police leadership. :ohno: "I have served as city police office chief for two years already and there is a new mayor now and he has the prerogative of retaining me or ordering my transfer," Trampe said. Mayor Constantino Jaraula said Trampe's transfer is a "promotion" of sorts and that with the change in administration, there is an urgent need for a more intensified campaign against criminality. Despite maintaining a relatively peaceful climate in Cagayan de Oro, detractors heavily criticized Trampe for his "laid back" demeanor and perceived inefficiency in arresting those behind petty crimes and robberies. The latest tirade against Trampe was the city police's perceived failure to arrest suspects behind the rape and murder of Janet Sazel last Friday. The regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Group did the job instead. Jaraula said the crime incidence in the city is not alarming and the change of leadership may also intensify the campaign against criminality. Trampe's successor, Montalba, served as acting city police director but never fully assumed the job because his rank was then a senior inspector. Montalba was replaced by Superintendent Honorio Cervantes who retired early last year. Former mayor Vicente Emano, before his term ended this year, recently pushed for Montalba's reappointment as city police director but the regional police recommended Trampe instead. Trampe assumed the post of city police director over Emano's protests but the former's appointment was insisted on by then Police Regional Office Director Dante Tejada. Trampe's reassignment to the regional police office followed a similar transfer to this same office by then City Police Director Felicisimo Khu back in 2002. In addition, new faculty member Dr. Shakil Akhtar, has been appointed the new head of the Department of Information Technology and Dr. Nathan Borchelt will be stepping in for Giovannitti as interim head of the Department of Mathematics. All this comes on the heels of Dean Dr. Charles Ford accepting a new position as Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Winston Salem State University in North Carolina. He and his wife, Dr. Dwedor Ford, who will also be taking the position of Writing Center Coordinator at WSSU, are wished the very best in their new positions. The fall term begins Aug. 20, and the faculty and staff at CIMS are not wasting any time gearing up for the new term. Their focus this year will be on increasing enrollment; engaging students and instructors through projects, papers and internships; and continuing the pursuit of grant prospects to increase program effectiveness and student opportunity. More specifically, they will be introducing a revised curriculum for the IT department, with all new majors starting the program this fall. The Math curriculum is also in the process of being revised, with implementation earmarked for fall 2008. “It’s important that we continually review our curriculum to keep up with changes in technology and methodology,” says Giovannitti. “Our students must compete in the real world, and we are committed to preparing them for their respective careers.” CIMS will be hosting two Fulbright scholars this fall. Dr. Roberto Corcino of the Department of Mathematics at Mindanao State University in Iligan City, Philippines will be joining Clayton State University this fall as the department’s first Fulbright research scholar, and Eveling G. Castro Gutierrez from Universidad Nacional de San Agustin, Peru, will be teaching two courses in Information Technology. CIMS Mathematics department will continue to work with the public schools through the MSP (Math and Science Partnership) grant instituted by Title II, Part B, of the No Child Left Behind Act. The purpose of the grant is to prepare mathematic and science teachers, grades four through 12, to successfully implement the new Georgia Performance Standards curriculum. “I am looking forward to strengthening our ties with the local business community especially those that use mathematics and information technology,” says Giovannitti. “In addition, we will continue to work with the local school systems to help them implement the new Georgia Performance Standards and we will seek out new partnership opportunities.” In December of 2006, CIMS hosted a robotics competition for Junior High School students. The Clayton State student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) holds regular meetings and presentations on campus and the Math department’s ongoing Colloquium Series begins its third year with speakers presenting on a variety of topics. Faculty, students and visiting scholars will comprise the line-up of guest speakers. The program is free and open to the public. “We will miss Dr. Ford and wish him the best in his new position,” says Giovannitti. “With the backing and expertise of our returning and new faculty and staff, I know that CIMS will continue to provide superior education to our students, to offer expanded services to the community as a whole, and to explore and advance the fields of Information Technology and Mathematics.” Source (http://about.clayton.edu/campusreview/Aug%203%2007.pdf) boom_box August 16th, 2007, 07:40 PM guys... naay LanParty sa Area51 Netcafe karong friday... i'll be meeting also the forum members of PPC (PinoyPC)... opening daw sa Sector7 games and gadgets store... Calubiran and Erly C. Garcia http://www.thenewstoday.info/2007/08/17/cabrera.jpg Cabrera A. Chris Fernandez photo Four volunteer search and rescue groups based in Iloilo boycotted yesterday's awarding ceremony of the 2007 Regional Gawad Kalasag held at the Iloilo Grand Hotel. The four groups did not show up in protest of the national award given to SMART Communications Inc. (SMART Comm) by the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) recently. The four volunteer groups which boycotted the regional awarding are Mountain Tigers Inc., Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, Black Panther Volunteer Group and Royal Eagles Rescue Volunteer Brigade. Gawad Kalasag which stands for Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan is a project of the NDCC and its local counterparts in recognition of the help and contribution made by volunteer groups during disaster and emergency situations. SMART Comm based in San Miguel, Iloilo recently bagged the National Gawad Kalasag award for the civic organization emergency responder category. Capt. Nilo Sazon of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary said over Aksyon Radyo that they opted to boycott the awarding because they feel that they were treated unfairly by the national award giving body. Sazon said they were surprised that only SMART Comm got the award in the national level as everybody knows that their groups have not been remiss in responding to disasters or emergencies. Commander Jomarie Gubatanga of the Black Panther Volunteer Group also said in the same radio interview that they were surprised that SMART Comm got the award when such group seldom could be seen responding to emergencies. "Bal-an man na sang publiko kon sin-o ang madasig mag-responde sa tion sang mga emerhensiya. Ang amon grupo naga-responde bisan diin may emergency, sa siyudad man ukon sa mga kabanwahanan (The public knows our performance. We respond to emergencies wherever it occurs)," Gubatanga said. Brgy. Capt. Luisa Froilan, also a member of Black Panther, echoed the same sentiment saying they boycotted the regional awarding because they feel that their efforts have not been recognized. "Gusto namon ang eksakto lang," Froilan said. Commander Roy Bagares of Royal Eagles and Captain George Dairo of Mountain Tigers also joined the boycott. Regional Disaster and Coordinating Council (RDCC) vice chair Rosario Cabrera explained they have nothing to do with the selection of awardees in the national level. She said, they have forwarded the records of all the volunteer search and rescue groups to the NDCC which conducted their own evaluation. However, no volunteer group from the region made it on the list of national awardees, Cabrera lamented. She said volunteer groups coming from Iligan and Olongapo were declared as winners in the rescue and volunteer groups level. In the case of SMART Comm, Cabrera explained that SMART Comm bagged the national award in the communications and warning group. Cabrera said SMART Comm though based in the town of San Miguel has been of help in the different areas in Iloilo and even Guimaras in times of disasters. The communication group is headed by Leonardo Salapantan. Cabrera added that all the recommendations forwarded to the RDCC have been referred to them by the municipal and provincial disaster coordinating councils. Cabrera said the protesting groups should have asked her on what happened in the national level. She said NDCC has their own selection board. In the region, the members of the selection committee were Sr. Supt. Reynaldo Rafal of the Police Regional Office 6; Eligio Calaor of the Office of the Civil Defense; Ted Cabanero of the Department of Interior and Local Government; Jerry Porras of the Department of Health; Rosario San Agustin of Department of Social Welfare and Development Office; Wendyl Mae Villaprudente of Department of the Education; Raul Garganera of the Philippine National Red Cross; Engr. Joseph Paul Nogra and Celeste Milan of the of the Regional Disaster and Coordinating Council secretariat. Cabrera stressed that the RDCC acknowledges the participation and help of the four groups during disasters. "They could have checked me first with regard to their complaint," she said. Cabrera assured that she will talk with the heads of the four groups to settle things out. Sazon, on the other hand, assured the public that their protest will not affect their commitment to respond in time of disasters and emergencies. "The spirit of volunteerism is within us, even without recognition we are here to serve," Sazon assured. In a radio interview, Iligan Mayor Lawrence Cruz said he will look into the case and initiate moves to address the plight of the workers who walked all the way from Lanao del Norte to the hinterland area of Barangay Tignapoloan. According to the workers, they walked and hid in forested areas in the towns leading up to Tignapoloan last Wednesday evening. The workers supposedly were employed by contractors to work on the plantation of a certain Ambassador Abdul Khaer Alonto. But Alonto denied he had anything to do with the plight of the workers, saying the farm was contracted for work and he had no knowledge about how the workers were hired. The contractor for Alonto's plantation promised the workers substantial salaries at P400 a day. The workers said their agreement was changed thrice with the contractor promising to pay them on a "pakyaw" or "packaged deal" basis but the contractor also failed to settle his bills. Some of the workers, who requested anonymity, said over radio interview that they experienced working conditions similar to those experienced by hired farm workers in other parts of the country. "The plantation guards would clamp down on us in terms of security. Our food is being rationed, there is even one whole family there working for the plantation but they were also unpaid by the owner," the workers said. The case has yet to be referred to either the Department of Agriculture (DA) or the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR). Cases of indigent families traveling great distances and crossing seas in search of work had been prevalent in the provinces of Luzon, where farm workers are usually paid below minimum wage. The travails of farm workers called "sacadas" have been the cause of mass rallies by farmers' groups. The said competition encourages critical thinking and problem solving skills. It combines science with information technology to encourage young science-minded students to explore and engage in science education. It also creates opportunities for contestants to discover the relevance of science in our world. With this participation, the high school students have proven that they are capable of going beyond mathematics competition and that they can be at par with their foreign counterparts in this competition. With the encouraging number of Filipino participants who took part in the competition, five were successful to garner the Certificate of High Distinction, and thirty seven received the Certificates of Distinction and one hundred thirteen were awarded with Certificates of Credits for being in the remaining 35%. Through the students’ exposure in this contest coupled with the result measures the extent of the scientific knowledge of our kids and thus reflects the present instructional set-ups in schools which include the questions on “what is taught and how is taught” in the science class. Hopefully, the results of the RIO TINTO will give educators the insights on how to strengthen science education in the Philippines. Moreover, the results of the competition and the certificates have just been sent to your respective schools. In few days time, both result and certificates will be in your hands. Congratulations! I'm really looking forward to seeing in this forum pictures that not just show images, but speak a thousand words about Iligan. :bowtie: For a start, visit http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=317&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=814 Go! Ma-try ko nga. :) langyaw August 18th, 2007, 10:05 AM ^^ Just update your MPEG-4 Decoder (click the link below the video viewer after a failed attempt) and install also Active -X component (Axis media Control). sorry for the slightly OT post: Alingatong, you mean you've actually seen these MPEG-4 streams? I've clicked that button and picked "plug-in settings" and tinkered around with "file types", even updated my player, but still nothing. :ohno: I haven't tried this Active-X (axis media control) you've mentioned yet, but AFAIK, my machine is pretty updated with video drivers already. :dunno: tough August 18th, 2007, 10:11 AM ^^ I don’t have any problem viewing the Dalipuga cam both on MPEG-4 and Motion JPEG format. :) Alingatong August 18th, 2007, 10:52 AM ^^This might help. AXIS Media Control which enables streaming video in Microsoft Internet Explorer, has not been installed or could not be registered on your computer. To install or upgrade the AXIS Media Control , you must have Administration rights on your computer and you must answer Yes when asked if you wish to allow the installation. AXIS 241S can also be configured to show still images. If you have seen the message above, the site might require you to install "Axis Media Control" from Axis Communications AB. Just click the message bar (pops-up below address bar) prompting you to install the said activex control. g0Rs August 19th, 2007, 07:15 AM http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m300/gors_iligan/18iligan1.jpg MindaNews photo by Violeta M. Iligan opens sports fest for team-building Written by Violeta M. Gloria/MindaNews ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews/August 18) – “Sports is a way to team-building and strengthening the unity of government workers towards a peaceful and prosperous city,” Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz said at the opening of the City Sports Fest 2007 last Friday. The sports fest started with a parade from the city plaza to the hilltop city hall early morning. City sports director Frederick Siao also introduced and congratulated the Iligan Crusaders, the basketball team of the city which recently won the championship in the national tournament. The sports fest features basketball, walkathon, volleyball, tennis, chess, among others. On Friday morning, government workers who were divided into teams showed off their talents and abilities for a field demonstration contest at the city hall’s open amphitheatre. Some groups used simple dance steps with costumes adorned with native and beautiful props, others used some ethnic steps. They wore colorful and creative uniforms, making them distinct from one department to the other. They were adjudged by their creativity, originality and relevance to the theme. (Violeta M.
