When was the last time you visited Tinago Falls? Anyways, you may now forget all your worries 'bout those fees. Barato na kaayo ang mga charges sa mga visita who come to Tinago. Para lang to cover maintenance and operation expenses of the resort.

Specific rates will be as follows:

P 10.00 = Entrance fee (per person)
P 40.00 = For the use of chairs and tables
P 10.00 = For the swimming pool

Very affordable naman for everyone to see the promise of Tinago Falls.

ILIGAN RANKS 2ND IN REVENUE COLLECTION IN REGION 10
By: ICTMS-EAMayormita
CIO Press Release
September 5, 2006

Iligan City is now second to Cagayan de Oro in terms of revenue income in the whole of Region 10. Assistant City Treasurer Louella Maybituin disclosed that the city’s Actual Gross Income for the General Fund has reached PHP 497,713,790.55 by August 26 which constitutes 63.75% of the projected PHP 780M for the year 2006. Cagayan de Oro City tops the list in all of region 10’s eight cities and five provinces with only more than a million pesos in excess of Iligan’s total collection to date.

Maybituin further stated that the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) has already attained a PHP 31,567,390.84 or 52.61% Actual Gross Income for the Special Education Fund in its estimated PHP 60M total for this year.

The CTO has employed cost effective strategies to counter the current crisis where revenue may take an all time low which is bound to cause a slack in the city’s revenue collection. Maybituin cited that a reinforced amusement tax collection, wide-range monitoring of business and real property taxes, extensive media campaigns, door-to-door delivery of tax bills and in-depth ocular inspection of business establishments including night spots is helping maximize revenue and increase city government cash inflow.

hahaha.it's ok. the reason i called our city the sleeping giant because ILIGAN has the area, the big industries, skilled manpower, power source, natural and mineral resources. On area alone, we are only using around 6-7 percent of our total land area to contribute 5% to the Country's Gross National Product. Imagine if we maximize the use of the remaining 93-94 percent? It has been in the top 10 most competitive city for a number of years already yet the city chose not to be in the limelight.Kung baga silent but deadly.By the time it awakens, matingala nalang tanan.hehehe

Guimaras experience among topics of Northern Mindanao RDCC incident command system training
by Gladys @ 9:41 am. Filed under News
by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob

Cagayan de Oro City (5 September) — The Guimaras oil spill should serve as a lesson for all our local government units to establish an efficient system of response to any disaster or calamity and be able to protect life, property and the environment.

This was stressed by Ret. Col. Salvador Estudillo, Regional Director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and Executive Officer of the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC), Northern Mindanao, who pointed out that response to disaster situations should be fast, specifically, within the next 24 to 48 hours.

A man-made disaster can occur anytime, whereby devastating effects may result in human suffering, displacement, loss of livelihood and considerable damage to property, not to mention the loss of lives of the people.

“Our LGUs, especially those in the coastal areas, had better be prepared to answer the people’s needs should calamities similar to that of Guimaras occur in the future. Thus, we will include in our discussions the Guimaras experience during the 2-day training on the Incident Command System (ICS) that we have scheduled, this year,” Estudillo said.

The training is aimed at helping the local chief executives (LCE) and law enforcement officers (LEO) to establish an effective and efficient ICS to serve as a model tool for command and control as well as strengthen the coordination skills of members of disaster coordinating councils (DCC).

He said the training will take place at Chali Beach Resort, Cagayan de Oro City, in two (2) batches: Sept. 11-12, 2006 for participants from Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Iligan City and Camiguin and Sept. 14-15, 2006 for those from Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro City.

Expected to attend the training are the Civil Defense Deputized Coordinators (CDDC), other DCC members, Civil Defense Deputized Coordinators (CDDC), Provincial and City Directors of the Philippine National Police, as well as those of the Dept. of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Meanwhile, the Administration expects oil companies and other firms engaged in the transport of oil and chemicals to start coordinating with government agencies concerned for the institution of the necessary preventive measures.

Pres. Arroyo has her blueprint to prevent future oil spills on hand and this is part of the overall program of environmental protection for the country which will always remain a top national priority, Defense Secretary Avelino Cruz, head of Task Force Guimaras, said.
“Certifying an oil spill prevention bill imposing strict maritime regulation is a first step, even as the government keeps an eye on the acquisition of modern facilities and equipment to deal with future contingencies,” Cruz also said. (PIA 10)

Filipinos have the propensity to overdo what is seen as trendy. A perfect example is the current craze of loud colors in buildings. What started as a simple variation from the white, grey and bland pastel colors has grown into uncoordinated and very loud combinations. It's simply crass and no longer funny. Ang sakit sa mata!

P.S. Pati simbahan sumana na.

DIYANDI FESTIVAL SA ILIGAN

Folklore depicts Iligan's patron saint, St. Michael the Archangel as the protector of peace. During the 70's, at the height of the secessionist hostilities in Mindanao, people believed that Iligan remained untouched and safe from rebel attacks because of the miracles of St. Michael.

One evening, when a hostile group was poised to attack Iligan City, the members retreated because they could not find the city as it was transformed into a lake. Another story told is that the Patron Saint makes his rounds in the evening as evidenced by amorseko grass on his clothes and muddy boots.

These are just a few of the many stories about St. Michael. Even the story of his installation as patron saint of Iligan continues to inspire and endear him to each and every Iliganon.

Thus, his feast every 29th of september, is a grand celebration in Iligan. In fact, it has transformed into a month-long festival, the DIYANDI FESTIVAL SA ILIGAN.

Diyandi is a ritual performed by an all-female group portraying the courtship between the Maranao male and Higaonon female and offering this union and agricultural harvest to the Catholic Saint Michael the Archangel. Diyandi captures and mirrors the peaceful co-existence of Iligan's tri-people: Maranao Muslims, Higaonons and Christians. This ritual is performed during the 'Pagpakanaug" before the start of every novena, before the start of the stage play Comedia and before the procession of the Nuestra Señora del Rosario.

Diyandi

The dancers who have lent their name to the festival. They perform at the St. Michael Cathedral during the Pagpakanaug, the Fiesta, and the Pagpasaka.

Pagpakanaug

Held every 20th of September at exactly 8:00 in the morning. The lowering of the Patron Saint from the center altar to the side altar for his bath and change of clothes and signaling the start of the nine-day novena, is a sight to behold and a tradition unparalleled. Although conducted inside the Cathedral, it is spearheaded by devotees and participated by local government officials whereby the City Mayor receives the Patron Saint's helmet, the Congressman receives the spear and the Chief of Police, San Miguel's shield. All this occurs with a ritual and a specific count amidst thunderous chants of VIVA SEÑOR SAN MIGUEL!

Daily Diana or Pamukaw

Starting Pagpakanaug Day to the day before the Fiesta, the Iligan City Government Band goes around the city at dawn to wake people up so they can prepare for the day's activities.

The procession stretched for approximately two kilometers. It started and ended at the St. Michael's Cathedral, with a route that took the devotees around the city through old streets, main thoroughfares, and two public markets.

[SIZE=3]if the city government will invite contigents such as the Sinanduloy dance troupe of Tangub and the famous San Diego dance troupe of Cebu as guest perfrmers, then they definitely give the kasadya street dancing that much needed publicity since these two dance troupes are considered to be the best in the street dancing mardi gras in the country. I saw the mayor of Iligan and a couple of his councilors last January during the sinuolg. They were all support for the Iligan contingent w/c garnerd a second place finish in the Sinulog festival. I just hope they had conversations w/ the said dance troupes and invited them. surely the kasadya will be a top mardi gras presentation!

pati contigents from power house troupes like Camiguin, Surigao, Davao dapat nainivite nila diba....

Feast of Nuestra Sra. Del Rosario and Pagpasaka

The feast is on the Sunday after the Fiesta, and the image of the Nuestra Sra. del Rosario is accompanied by Sr. San Miguel in a procession following the same route. Afterwards, the patron saint is once again elevated to his altar in the cathedral by a ritual called Pagpasaka.

ang ganda ganda nga tingnan eh, at very colorful pa. parang malong ng mga Maranao. I am sure it directly reflects the colorful culture Iligan embodies..

Di tulad ng maalikabok at bland at walang kabuhay buhay na kulay ng sleepy Toledo City :) :)

Kelan ang piyesta sa Iligan?

matagal na rin ako di naka punta, the last time was just a side trip from CDO
Thanks guys for your 'colorful' comments. I'm not just thinking about Iligan but the whole Philippines. Don't you think it's just an overkill?

Anyway, I have just two other questions.
1. Why is Iligan a giant?
2. Why is it sleeping?

hahaha.trip ko lang.(me and my wierd mind)the reason i called our city the sleeping giant because ILIGAN has the area, some big industries, skilled manpower, power source, natural and mineral resources. On area alone, we are only using around 6-7 percent of our total land area to contribute 5% to the Country's Gross National Product. Imagine if we maximize the use of the remaining 93-94 percent? It has been in the top 10 most competitive city for a number of years already yet the city chose not to be in the limelight.Kung baga silent but deadly.By the time it awakens, masashock lahat.hehehe.This time silent giant naman.hehehe

^^ Salamat naman. By the way, it is about time that we tap the resources that give us comparative advantage over other economies. The tourism industry is indeed one fertile ground. Iligan has those requirements to make one a tourist destination - attraction, accessibility, and amenities - Iligan has it all. So as we usher in the celebration of Diyandi Festival sa Iligan, Iliganons would like to invite everyone to come and visit and experience the many colors of Iligan. VIVA SEÑOR SAN MIGUEL!

RUIZ PROPOSES “HEALTH SUMMIT” FOR ILIGAN & ADJOINING AREAS
By: ITCMS-EAMayormita
CIO Press Release
September 8, 2006

Iligan City Council Committee Chair on Health and Sanitation Chonilo Ruiz is recommending a “Health Summit” for Iligan and neighboring areas in the two provinces of Lanao and both Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental for its local leaders to take up financial concerns for Gregorio T. Lluch Memorial Hospital.

Ruiz explained that the city hospital continues to accommodate patients from outside of Iligan City whom doctors cannot disregard and which helps use up the city government’s support for GTLMH. He believes that conferring with the local government units concerned will help the city hospital overcome its financial difficulties.

The schedule for the Health Summit is yet to be determined but Ruiz added that he will request the management of the Lanao del Norte Provincial Hospital to attend the summit.

Maria Cristina Falls is Iligan’s greatest heritage and one of the Philippines’ popular landmarks. It is considered as the most splendid among the 23 waterfalls which are found in the “City Of Majestic Waterfalls” – Iligan City. It towers at 320 feet high and 9.3 kilometers away southwest from the city proper. Its waters flow through the Agus channel and come from Lake Lanao located in Marawi City. Although 90% of the waters are used to power the hydroelectric plant, the cascades still look majestic.

Maria Cristina Falls contributed much in Iligan’s progress since aside from being a popular tourist attraction, it invites local and foreign tourists that add income to city's coffer. Maria Cristina Falls is also utilized as a hydroelectric power generating plant that supplies 80 percent of the total energy requirement of the Mindanao region. It made the city’s urbanization rushed upon the establishment of the plant in 1952. Countless industries were built and more people came to settle making Iligan’s economy elevate much. Thus due to this, Maria Cristina Falls is also tagged as the “Mother of Industry” and “Fountainhead of Progress”.

The Legend of Maria Cristina Falls’ Creation

Long time ago, Omaca-an, a giant carnivorous monster owned Lake Lanao. Since he eats human beings and animals living in land and even in water, there were just very few people around the lake. Since the said monster is a threat to the people’s life, Rajah Solaiman was the first who fought the giant, but unfortunately he did not succeed and worst, he was killed. Then, Rajah Indarapatra followed to look for his brother Solaiman. Indarapatra confronted the man eater monster, Omaca-an and successfully defeated him.

Rajah Indarapata stayed several years along the shores of the lake searching for his brother’s ring. He asked the animals that he met and he even swim in the water everyday and gathered both big and small stones underneath the water, but then he still didn’t found Solaiman’s ring.

Indarapata created an irrigation system that had covered a lengthy distance which later became a river (now the Agus River) which has a portion that dropped down a deep ravine (now the Maria Cristina Falls).

How Maria Cristina Falls got its name?

There were two beautiful sisters named Maria (the younger) and Cristina (the elder) living near the falls where Indarapata’s irrigation system is located. They love each other very much to the extent that Maria gave everything she have to Cristina. They also loved their neighbor as they loved themselves.

Since Maria & Cristina are good-looking and attractive maidens, many Datus & Sultans came to ask for their hands in marriage, but the sisters refused. However, there was an unhappy son of a famous Sultan living somewhere nearby Lake Lanao .He couldn't find find the girl that he really loved. He traveled around the lake until he saw the two maidens of the falls. He fell in love with the Maria and Cristina but the two sisters did not know whom he really loved. Days have passed and Maria realized that she loved the son of the sultan very much, which made her very sad and she went to the top of the falls and jumped. When Cristina her sister, found out that Maria was dead, she likewise went to the top of the falls and tossed herself down the deep ravine.

When the handsome young man discovered what happened and found the dead bodies, he buried them carefully under the falls and never married until he also died. He named the falls, Maria Cristina, after the two sisters he loved.

Maria Cristina Falls as a Tourist Spot

Of approximately 23 waterfalls found in Iligan City, Maria Cristina Falls is considered as the most admired because of its alluring twin cascades. It is the most famous waterfall in the entire Mindanao and it is the third highest falls found in the Philippines. It plunges down to 320 feet into a pool where rocks surround. These rocks were said to be the horrible magical war boat of Prince Bantogen, hero of the Maranao-Maguindanao epic “Darangen" .
Despite the fact that about 90% of its water is utilized for the hydropower plant, its cascades are still glorious and splendid which captivates both local and foreign tourists. It is also tagged as a now-you-see-now-you-don’t falls because of the manmade controls performed by the National Power Corporation which is essential for producing electricity. However, its presence indicates a healthy environment throughout the city. The music of the flowing water is healing to the tourists. Blocked or plunging voluminously or controlled vertically into the pool, Maria Cristina Falls retains as mesmerizing as it is which is worth for the tourists travel.

Maria Cristina Falls is equally fascinating as the immaculate features of the natural world wonders like Venezuela’s Angel Falls, the world’s highest at 3,230 feet; the Victoria Falls, the world’s largest, found on the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe; and the Niagara Falls, the most voluminous in North America.

The natural beauty of Maria Cristina Falls can be seen any day you want but the best day to witness the alluring twin cascades is during SUNDAYS from 10:00 am to 12:00pm.

Tourists, visitors and educational travelers are recommended to visit on Sundays to see its wonders and discover its secrets.

Tuhugon dayon ang karne, sugba dayon. Pahiran dayon ug mixture sa gamayng catsup ug oil (aron di mag-uga) while hapit na maluto. Tuyo ug suka with sili ang sawsawan. Hmmmm! Yummy.:)

Alingatong
September 12th, 2006, 06:33 AM
^^ Yawa-Yawa is the Iliganon name for the San Miguel stage play more popularly known locally as "Comedia", first staged circa 1890. A crude and morality play in Cebuano and its theme is the triumph of San Miguel over Lucifer (good over evil). :)

Alingatong
September 12th, 2006, 06:40 AM
As a religious komedya, the Comedia de San Miguel is unique not only in Mindanao, but in the whole country for instead of revolving around the themes of love and war between medieval Christian and Muslim kingdoms, it focuses on the conflict between San Miguel and Lusbel, and the eventual triumph of the patron saint.

Roles in the play are handed down from generation to generation within a group of families who have taken the responsibility of mounting the play and performing in it as a form of "panaad" or religious vow.

Technology, however, hasn't affected the play, and it has remained essentially the same, true to its traditions and resolute in its function as first and foremost a conduit for gratitude to God and Señor San Miguel for favors received during the year.

City Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz is back from the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in the United States with three other Filipino political leaders on a three-week exposure to five states for the USAID-sponsored (United States Agency for International Development) “Good Governance: Strategies for Promoting Transparency”.

He is set to submit a copy of the Hinterland Development Plan of Iligan City to the Millenium Challenge Corporation of the USA, a funding agency willing to support infrastructure projects in third world countries. With the Iligan-Bukidnon Road project foremost in his mind, he wanted to make sure that Iligan City will top the list of those willing to avail of the agency’s program once the country has cleared up its own problem on corruption and satisfy the requirements to qualify as a beneficiary.

Now I know. Viva San Miguel!

CDLO SPONSORS SELF-HELP SKILLS TRAINING
By: ICTC-EAMayormita
CIO Press Release
September 13, 2006

The Cooperative Development and Livelihood Office of the Iligan City government is gearing up for a “Self-Help Skills Training” to provide barangay folks with additional means of livelihood. CDLO Officer-in-Charge Roy Openiano reveals that the office is accepting proposals from local barangays while it is still on the process of preparing the requisites for the training.

A two-day Beekeeping Training was conducted by the office’s Technology and Livelihood Development Center last week at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall in partnership with the City Agriculture Office and the Department of Agriculture. Ten bee colonies worth PHP 5,500 each and funded by the city’s National Wealth Share from the National Power Corporation were raffled off to 10 lucky participants. An exposure trip to JP Apiaries in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon took place on the second day of the training.

Northern Mindanao posts US$169.385-M total reg’l exports in 2Q
by Gladys @ 9:41 am. Filed under News
by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob

Cagayan de Oro City (13 September) — A total regional exports (TRE) of US$169.385M have been posted in Northern Mindanao during the 2nd quarter of 2006, higher by 10.92% compared to US$152.704M in the same period, last year.

“Of the region’s 5 provinces, Misamis Occidental posted the highest increase of 651.%, from US$170,000 to US$1.277M due to the substantial increase of frozen prawns/shrimps, their main export,” Regional Director Alicia V. Euseña of the Dept. of Trade and Industry (DTI), region 10, said.

This was followed by Camiguin with 34.91%, from US$33,800 to US$45,600 due to increases in their exports for coconut charcoal and Lanao del Norte, 21.33%, from US$71.869M to US$87.203M due to the continued expansion of Global Steel Philippines in Iligan City.

Misamis Oriental, however, posted minimal increase of 0.73%, from US$72.644M to US$73.178M despite the presence of big exporting companies in the province, such as Del Monte Philippines, Pilipinas Kao, Philippine Sinter Corp. and Nestle, Phil., Inc.

Bukidnon, on the other hand, posted a negative 3.80%, from US$7.986M to US$7.683M due to the absence of exports on sugar cane and molasses, one of the major exports of the province during the 2nd quarter of 2005.

Overall, Euseña said, Lanao del Norte had the biggest share of 51.48% in the TRE as steel products that jumped from US$20M to US$30M accounted for 47% of its exports in the same period this year and coconut products which went up by 12%, from US$59M to US$66M.

The other provinces and their share in TRE are as follows: Mis.Or., 43.20%, Bukidnon, 4.54%, Mis. Occ, 0.75% and Camiguin, 0.03%.

Meanwhile, Regional Director Myra V. Balandra of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in Northern Mindanao said the government shares the buoyant outlook of the people and investors as an affirmation of and support for the President’s firm resolve to achieve sustained growth, good governance and social justice.

The rally of the Philippine peso and stock markets, the steady growth of the gross domestic product (GPD), the improved fiscal footing and the climbing to a all-time high of the country’s gross international reserves 9GIR) as well as the direct investments will help push the nation forward towards the goal of placing the Philippines in the ranks of the “first world” countries within the next two decades, Balandra, further said. Iligan Diocese is busy preparing for the arrival of Rev. Fr. Elenito De Los Reyes Galido as the new bishop.

Iligan diocese has no bishop for almost two years now after its prelate, Bishop Emilio L. Bataclan, was appointed as auxiliary bishop of Cebu in June 2004.

Born in Managok, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, Galido is 52 years old. He took up his theology studies at St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary in Davao City.

Galido is currently serving as an associate priest at St. Francis de Sales Church, in Brooklyn, U.S.A., while finishing his master's degree in Pastoral Counseling and Spiritual Care.

Ordained priests in 1979, Galido first served as a spiritual director at the Pope John XXIII College Seminary, also in Malaybalay, and named rector in 1986. He also became parish priest of the Immaculate Conception parish in Kibawe in 1982 to 1984.

The bishop-elect held two major positions in the diocese of Malaybalay such as the chancellor in 1986 and as vicar general two years later.

From 1991, he also served as the administrator at San Isidro Cathedral in Malaybalay for 5 years.

Iligan diocese covers a population of more than 1 million Catholics. It has 58 priests, 35 diocesan and 23 religious, plus 95 other religious men and women who work in 26 parishes.

Installation of the new bishop will be on September 18, 2006 at 10:00 AM at the St. michael Cathedral.

ILIGAN & CDO SHOW LOWEST OIL PRICES IN MINDANAO
By: ICTC-EAMayormita
CIO Press Release
September 21, 2006

Iligan and Cagayan de Oro register the lowest prices in diesel fuel, unleaded and premium gasoline in the whole Mindanao according to a recent press release received by the City Information Office from the Department of Trade and Industry. The document reveals that the Department of Energy has noted visibly reduced rates of PHP 3.56 per liter in prices of diesel, 0.36 centavos for every liter of unleaded gasoline and 0.38 centavos per liter of premium gasoline as compared to Davao which is believed to be the result of stiff competition between the three major oil players Caltex, Shell and Petron and the springing of new companies, Seaoil and Jetti.

It is said that this development can also be attributed to Republic Act 8479 also known as the “Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Act”.

yeah, i miss going to and fro iligan-tubod-pagadian, the scenery is really quite different compared to you going towards CDO... I really miss that place, but ive heard that the negotiations with MILF is not going so well... :( I just do hope they stop this non sense rebellion in mindanao... its hurting us, and you know... its everyones responsibility to opt towards peace.

Cafe Iliganon is also located corner quezon ave. ext. (pala-o) and the street going to INTERLUDE (Iligan Village Hotel)..the lot used to be a maternity clinic.

wow the rendering of the building is amazing.. may unta ingun ani jud ang final building... cable cars??? OMG wawawawaw.... white water rafting? wawawawawaw.... kanindut gud ana paminawon gud?

one more thing guys, i think we should start reforming our public transportation. Jeepneys in the city are causing so much congestion and traffic. I also think they are very inconvenient and not practical. I think the local goverment should create a public transport sector which would handle all things related to such, i.e. controlling a major part of the public transport system while at the same time allowing and managing private transport companies.

The main reason for this i think is because of its practicality where disabled people cannot easily ride on jeepneys. Even for a normal person, a full jeppney is a tough task to get on to. Other than that, jeepneys seem to stop everywhere as long as there are passengers. Not only do we see empty jeepneys most of the time since its causing a very fierce competition but at the same time doesnt look very pleasing to the eye.

A well organised public transport is also a key to attracting investments and development within the city. My proposal are the use of low floor buses which eases the boarding of both disabled and normal passengers. Designated bus stops around the city, each bus stop should have a well sized shed and appropriate seating. A bus stop should be able to handle different lines that goes through it. And a transport path that is more efficient without the need for more buses. Buses offers more seating thus lesser vehicles on the road and thus lesser congestion and traffic. Another thing is that we should also change the payment system i think. We should be able to choose between one ride ticket or a full day ticket. Ie. one ride ticket costs 6 pesos(is that the fare now in iligan?) and a full day ticket would be 15pesos, but this ticket would allow you to ride "limitless" for one day on the public transports (thats why i am talking about letting the local government run the wholse system so that the whole public transport system is under their hands and thus a full day ticket would apply to all the public transport managed by the government.) Imagine the advantages it has for students who have to travel four times each day and paying a total of 24 pesos just to get to school (again correct me if I am wrong with the current fare price n iligan)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/ikra/LT_12_bus_stop_1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/ikra/Omnicity-low-floor.jpg

both pictures shows a lot of things. Not only does it offer easy access for disabled people or things of the sort, it is practical and it looks good. The designated bus stops also looks good rather than the jeepneys stopping wherever they want. This should ensure discipline and organisation within the community. Yes I dont envision this to happen overnight but rather slowly, maybe a period of several years. And of course using the current drivers as the employess, and implementing 8 hour shifts and reasonable wage. I think this is not impossible...

I really hope to address this to the local government. :) can anybody do that? (imagine, we would be the first in mindanao or even in teh philippines to have a very organised mode of transport) Its great to do this while the city is still starting to develop again before this problem would increase over time as the city becomes bigeer. Its easier to change it at this point in time... so i think its very important that we do someting about this asap.

g0Rs
September 26th, 2006, 02:36 AM
good suggestion ikra but I doubt if the local government will be able to do that as of this time. kulang pa ang budget ng city. One bus alone could cost millions of pesos. however, i agree with you in reforming our public transport.

ikra
September 26th, 2006, 02:57 AM
yeah, at least this situation should be addressed to the government of iligan so that they would have plans for it rather than later. Wellp, as ive said, doesnt matter how long it takes but informing them of our ideas can do jumpstart something. Yeah, buses are expensive... but on the other hand they are worth every single penny of the taxpayers.

I think i can put it as a prospect for the city as for now, and it will never be a prospect until the government knows. :) And then maybe this will be something we will be proud of jumpstarting and evolving the whole of mindanao..

^^I don't want to be pessimistic but with the kind of thinking our authorities have, I don't think that dream would come true in our lifetime. But there's a little hope, we have to change the way the authorities think and that we should change the form of government the soonest possible time. :)

LPCC INSPECTS WEIGHING SCALES AT LOCAL MARKETS
By: ICTC-EAMayormita
CIO Press Release
September 26, 2006

The Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) of Iligan City has conducted a random inspection last week involving 182 stalls at Pala-o and Central Markets for their “Operation Timbangan”. Seventy-two weighing scales that lack the 2006 sticker were confiscated by the LPCC inspectors from fish, rice, vegetable and fruit vendors in and around the areas. The stickers from the Weight and Measures Section of the Permits and Licenses Division of the City Mayor’s Office certify that the units passed the required periodic calibration and have been authorized for use in selling.

Cagayan de Oro City (27 September) — Officials from the city as well as from the barangays of San Roque and Hinaplanon witnessed the launching and formal turn over ceremony of the P15million-Completion of Mandulog Bridge-1 Project along Maria Cristina-Misamis Oriental Road, held on September 25, 2006. Assistant Regional Director Mangbalo S. Maniri, Al Haj, of the Department of Pubic Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 10 formally turned over the project to Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz in the presence of the two (2) barangay chairmen, Camila Echavet Sweet of San Roque and Isaac L. Catayas of Hinaplanon. Also present during the ceremony was Rep. Alipio ‘Tikbong’ V. Badelles of the 1st District of Lanao del Norte/Iligan City, who appropriated the project from his Countryside Development Fund an amount of P15M from its original contract amount of P13.667 million. With the DPWH-Lanao del Norte 2nd Engineering District as the implementing office and the contract of works handled by the Mamsar Enterprises Agro-Industrial Corporation, this project started December 2005 and shall expire on January 2007, with 5.9 percentage of slippage, Maniri disclosed. Congressman Badelles said the Mandulog Bridge is one of the component bridges in the Iligan-Bukidnon Road, a Flagship Project of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. We still have seven (7) bridges to construct to finish the line amounting to P2 billion, Badelles said. Mayor Cruz expressed his appreciation for all the favors the city has received and acknowledged all those who were involved in this project. He further said, the bridge is the symbol of reaching out people and extending friendship among the barangays. He said, President Arroyo reaffirmed her commitment to help Iligan City and this is part of the President’s SONA, that to modernize infrastructure at least cost to efficiently transport goods and people. We hope to have the Iligan-Bukidnon Road Project soon to be accessible that will lead Iligan’s economy to prosper, said Cruz. (PIA-Iligan City)
