PRESYO SA LANA SA ILIGAN, NAGPABILING UBOS
05/11/08

(mta)

Piston: Strike cripples 100% transport in Iligan City
05/12/2008 | 12:13 PM

MANILA, Philippines - A militant transport group said Monday the transport strike had completely paralyzed Iligan City in the southern Philippine province of Lanao del Norte.

So wala na pong namamasada doon ngayon (In Iligan City, 100 percent of all jeepneys have stopped plying their routes)," said George San Mateo, secretary general of the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston), in a radio interview.

Citing reports reaching Manila from their regional chapters across the country, San Mateo also said that operators and drivers in other cities in the Bicol Region and Mindanao were on its way to effecting a total transport halt.

(Over at the Bicol Region, 90 percent of transportation in Naga City, Camarines Sur has stopped. Also, 97 percent of transportation in the city of Legaspi City, Albay and the entire Sorsogon province has been affected)

Down south in Mindanao, San Mateo said that figures continue to indicate a looming full halt anytime soon, citing that 98 percent of transportation had already been immobilized in Davao City.

“Sa Davao City, 98 percent po ng ating mga kapatid na Davaoeñong tsuper ay hindi na po namamasada sa mga oras na ito (98 percent of all our drivers in Davao City have already abandoned plying the streets)," he said.

Also, 96 percent and 95 percent of transportation in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental and Kidapawan City, Cotabato, respectively, have already been affected. - Mark Merueñas, GMANews.TV

MAYOR CRUZ, HUGTANONG MOSUPORTA SA BALIK-BATERYA PROGRAM SA PBSP
05/11/08

(Divina M. Suson)

05/13/08

YOUNG blood starts to firm up their bid as the new leaders of Northern Mindanao chess.

Orly Rav'z, skippered by 23-year-old Khimme King of Iligan City, and Dota All Star--powered by 14-year-old Lennon Hart Salgados of Corpus Christi School in Cagayan de Oro--zoomed up to the top in the last two rounds to rule the 2nd Bugo Open chess team tournament which ended here Sunday at brgy. Bugo's covered court.

Keeping a steady pace with the tournament leaders, Orly Rav'z and Dota All Star fought to a 2-2 draw in the fifth round then unleashed all their might in the final two rounds to tie for first place with identical 11 match points each in the 27-team field event.

Orly Rav'z and Dota's late-round surge were like a dagger that cut through the hearts of perennial pacesetter AJM Agency A and Stalag woodpushers who both entered the seventh and final round with a full-point lead.

A win or a draw for Agency and Stalag in their respective matches would make them either solo or co-champion--when tragedy struck.

Literally coming from nowhere, Orly Rav'z--bankrolled by Cooperative Development Authority director Orly Ravanera--pulled off a dramatic 3.5-.5 win over Stalag. Also a point behind, Dota All Star likewise edged out AJM Agency A, 2.5-1.5 for the twin-stunner in the closing day of action.

"It's so frustrating in my part coz I'm already close to winning when I latched into erratic play during time trouble. I could not just imagine losing a game with two pieces advantage. But this will never discourage me. I will continue moving my pawn to make it a Queen," said Stalag's Oliver Damunsong of his heart-ripping debacle on board 4 against Renan Cantilado.

With Damunsong out, Silverio Abasolo tried to force the issue on board 1. But the spirited King played so cool and composed to refute the hard clock-pounding Abasolo.

Manning board 3 for Orly Rav'z, Maramag pride Lamberto Casas made short work of Franklin Porras. But Emmanuel Crisologo quickly retaliated by besting Roumando Edades Jr. on board 2 tussle.

So heart-breaking, however, was the eventual collapse of AJM A which impressively took the lead from Round 1 to 5. AJM A got whitewashed by Stalag in the penultimate 6th round. Then, the happy-go-lucky Dota boys--who were instrumental in upstaging Johnnel Balquin and company of host Bugo Awatu--came to complete AJM's final setback.

Antonio Chavez Jr., struggling from a so-so performance, and Dota's scoring machine Salgados (unbeaten on board 2) held off the Lumancas brothers (Lyndon and Sonny) to fighting draws as well as Patricio Daniot against a determined Engineer Jun Gunayan on board 3.

The deciding match was left on the lower board (4) wherein alternate, Charles Joseph Laya again played the hero's role.

Subbing for Ralph Dalauta, who finished 3 out of 4, the Dota boys' so-called "secret weapon" essayed the Center-Counter game to beat Palaro player, Jessie Opena. Laya contributed three wins in 3 games for Dota's cause.

"Walay pressure among dula kay amigo `ming tanan walay basolay. Laya's contribution is spectacular. Pero dako kaayo among pasalamat kay uncle Dodoy (Ibaoc) kay krisis kaayo giluwas `mi sa registration ug pang-survival sa kaon," the foursome of Chavez, Salgados, Daniot and Dalauta said in unison.

Orly Rav'z and Dota All Star equally divided among themselves the combined purses of P14,000 for first and second places during the awarding ceremony presided by Kagawad Raul Aleria, tournament director Jokorn Maestrado and chief arbiter Jun Cuizon.

Sharing third to seventh places were Balingasag (Paul Jardin, Paciano Gulle Jr., Celso Parmisano Jr., Joseph Parmisano, Rodrigo Fabiana), AJM A, Vintage CDO (Mario Arroyo, Cleto Vasquez, Vic Arellano, Gereson Solidum, William Reintegrado), Bugo Awatu (Balquin, Leo Dinglasan, Wilnar Lunaan, Abdul Halil Abdullah) and Stalag.

Both Balquin and Gulle were defeated once, but they took the gold medals on boards 1 and 2 at the expense of the undefeated King and Salgados who each scored five wins and two draws in seven rounds.

"King and Lennon Hart were undefeated and both of them came from champion teams. But we based our decision on the most number of wins," the tournament officials, explained.

Cecilio "Yoyong" Escalera of the Old Guards, Joseph Parmisano of Balingasag and Starsky Maestrado of Orly Rav'z copped the individuals golds on boards 3, 4 and 5. They received P500 apiece.

Keith Surplus Center, made up of the Ibaoc brothers (Tristan, Keith, Kennard) and Christian Mario Pabillore) delivered the finest performance from the kiddies side with the 12-year-old Keith even holding to a draw, Edades from the champion team.

Bugo chess participants expect the supposedly chess-conscious barangay of Nazareth to be their next stop in June. But Kagawad Jagger O¤ate reportedly said the proposed Nazareth chess team tourney was unanimously turned down by the Barangay Nazareth Council in their previous meeting.

"Wala pa hinoon namo napangutana ang uban nga kagawad sa Nazareth kon unsa kini ka tinuod," local chess organizer Maestrado told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

LARAW’NG PAGTUKOD OG ICNHS-ANNEX SA PALA-O, SUPORTADO SA KONSEHO
05/14/08

(Divina M. Suson)

sa MPCC..? medyo walang operation doon eh... yung kiln nga nila ay mothballed na ata... although on-going yung repairs nila doon.. struggling kasi ang ICC na maging competitor ng Holcim kahit medyo outdated na yung ICC in terms of cement processing at technology... (still using pre-heater tower instead of efficient precalciner tower)... pero ewan ko lang baka tumakbo na din yung MPCC sooner...

yup bords Lafarge po yung ICC at MPCC... actually ICC is a sister company of MPCC after gumawa ng sariling companya si Thomas Alcantara.. (a former employee of MPCC and founder ng Alcantara group of companies)...

NGITNGIT NGA BAHIN SA SENTRO SA SIYUDAD, PRAYORIDAD SA PASUGA
05/15/08

(mta)

most sidewalks have been cleared by the authorities except in the market area. they keep on coming back . pero sa tingin ko mas organize ang pala-o public market kaysa dito (wet/central market-gaisano superstore area). you can still see few vendors at the sidewalks sa pala-o market though. atleast they're not occupying the streets anymore.

what about the sidewalk between FK mart and the city health office? has it been cleared? far as I can recall, a bakery and lechon outlet occupied it. the spot was contested by the owner as part of their property. but if the city gov't really wanted to, they could expropriate that to ensure the safety of pedestrians who are forced to walk on the street at that portion.

Platinum to spend P1.9B on plant rehab (http://www.gmanews.tv/story/96012/Platinum-to-spend-P19B-on-plant-rehab)

MISAMIS ORIENTAL, Philippines — The Platinum Group Metals Corp. has intensified the rehabilitation of its smelting facilities, including the newly acquired Manticao Ferronickel Smelter Plant located here.

The Filipino-controlled company is targeting to fully operate its Manticao plant within the last quarter of the year. "We have at least three to four months to rehabilitate the operational area, which includes completion of the furnace construction," said Kelly J. Ventanilla, plant manager for the Manticao ferronickel facility.

The P3 billion worth Platinum Group is integrating its three ferronickel mine sites in Surigao del Norte, Isabela and Palawan for its three smelting plants that process raw ores.

The smelting plants, aside from the one operating here, are in Iligan City in Lanao del Norte and Danao in Cebu. All three smelting plants are undergoing rehabilitation. The rehabilitation program is estimated to cost P1.9 billion. Singapore’s Deutsche Bank AG recently gave it a credit facility of $40 million to finance the company’s rehabilitation and expansion, officials said.

The Platinum Group studied the previously dormant ferro-chrome plant here and found it to have a good potential for ferro-nickel production. "There were only few changes and reformation of the operational area. As soon as we have the furnace done, we will be independently producing from the neighboring plant in Iligan," Mr. Ventanilla said. For now, the company sends its nickel ore to the Iligan plant, 22 kilometers away, for final smelting.

Nickel ore is a raw product obtained from the company’s Isabela mine site and undergoes heating below melting point to reduce moisture content. The Manticao plant can accommodate 9, 000 tons of raw nickel ore per month. Mr. Ventanilla said that the rehabilitation stage is at around 40%, which will be finished within the year. — Geefe P. SP ILIGAN BUOT MAKIG-JOINT MEETING SA SB LUGA-IT
05/20/08

(mta)

PAGBALIK SA HRDC GIREKOMENDAR NGA MUGNA-ON
05/20/08

(boy decena)

Firm to build P2-B ferronickel smelter (http://www.mb.com.ph/BSNS20080520125069.html)

The Board of Investments has approved tax and fiscal incentives to the P1.996-billion integrated ferronickel smelting project of MCCI Corp..

The company’s entire production of ferronickel in different forms are geared for the export market.

MCCI, which is now owned by PGMC Corp. of the Atayde Group, having acquired it from the Guevarra family, shall produce 13,714,500 pounds of ferronickels a year from its 3 plants in Iligan, Manticao in Misamis Oriental and Danao in Cebu.

In approving the project for incentives, the BoI said that MCCI’s project is considered as it will involve the utilization of an existing idle facility or plant it had acquired.

MCCI shall now operate the two existing but idle facilities under its fold: the ferrochrome smelting plant of Mindanao Ferroalloy Corp. (MINFACO) located in Manticao, Misamis Oriental, from Araneta Properties in 2005; and the Lloyds Richfield line of Lafarge Cement Philippines Inc. located in Danao, Cebu.

The MINFACO and MCCI were BOI- registered.

As new owners of MCCI, the MINFACO and the Danao plants, PGMC will be investing R2 billion to rehabilitate/convert and operate the acquired assets into an integrated ferronickel smelting project.

The R2 billion investments already include the acquisition costs of MCCI, Manticao and Danao facilities, rehabilitation and improvement costs plus the initial working capital for the operation of the three plants.

The plan includes the rehabilitation and conversion of the idle electrochemical/electrometallurgical plant in Buruan, Iligan into a ferronickel smelting plant.

The plant has two electric arc furnaces with a capacity of 40 tons per hour each and a 5 ton per hour vertical kiln that is designated as a standby kiln.

The MINFACO ferrochrome smelting plant shall also be converted and operated into a ferronickel plant.

The ferronickel that will be produced in this plant shall be transported to the main plant in Iligan and will be combined with the ferronickel output of the main plant for shipment abroad.

Part of the beneficiated nickel ore or PGMC from its Surigao mine site shall also be brought to this plant for smelting. The beneficiated nickel ore is going to be sourced from the firm’s mother company, PGMC’s nickel mines located in Claver, Surigao del Norte and Isabela.

The project also include the rehabilitation of the former LCPI’s Lloyds Richfield wet process line, located in Danao City, Cebu into a nickel ore calcinations plant.

Part of the beneficiated nickel ore of PGMC from its Isabela mine site will be brought to this plant for calcining, then the calcined ore will be brought to Iligan and Manticao plants for smelting.

The integrated facility shall produce high-value added ferronickel in different forms, ingots, shots, granules and recoveries.

Production of ferronickel involves blending of ore and coal; drying/calcining, smelting, refining, casting and packing.

PGMC expects an initial export revenue this year of 0 million from an initial production of 10 million pounds of nickel ore.

PGMC is also free to sell the ferronickel to any market having completed a financing from Deutsche Bank.

Earlier, PGMC considered to commit selling up 80 percent of its ferronickel production from its Iligan plant to BHP Billiton, world’s largest mining firm and third largest nickel producer.

At an average yearly nickel price of per pound, revenue is seen at .721 million in 2008, .334 milion in 2009, .491 million in 2010, and .442 million in 2011.

It will register an average annual income of 4 million out of which excise tax paid to the government is at P134 million while annual income tax is at P1 billion and annual real property tax, P2.2 million.

"The locality will benefit directly from the one percent of the total production cost as social fund or community development projects amounting to an average of P35 million yearly," said PGMC.

The plant is estimated to generate employment to baranggays Bu-ruun and Maria Cristina for 125 persons initially, reaching to 541 at maximum operational capacity.

The plant has a programmed production cost of P2.27 billion in 2008 of which a large chunk of P989 million is for nickel ore costs, P400 million for smelter material charges, P455 million for power, and P242 million for operating cost contingency.

Production cost is seen to increase to P4.04 billion in 2009, P5.57 billion in 2010, and down a little to P5.4 billion in 2011.

Nickel ore that will be fed on the smelter plant will be sourced from PGMC nickel mining operations from Dinapigue in Isabela, Toronto and Pulot properties in Palawan, and Cagdianao in Surigao del Norte, and other sources. (BCM)

Being an Amateur radio Operator and electronic enthusiast for decades, I love all the pics showing so many antennas and towers in Iligan City. When I visited the City Hall complex I noticed a VHF Stacked Array on one of the buildings and my extended tour of the City Hall area lead me right to the equipment they were connected to. You never know what is going to attract someones attention in these pics. There is so much of a variety of everything in Iligan City I hope to come back for another visit to see more of it ! Thanks for the great pics. This was one vacation where I had the pics before I even went there and I visited many places where the pics were actually taken.

So much of the brilliant color of Iligan City comes through in many of these pics. That recent one of the gas pumps is fantastic. By the way at the moment where I live in New York, gas is going for $4.10 per gallon although it can vary depending on what locality you buy it in. By the time you read this however the price will have increased another few cents.

Mindanao POF qualifier kicks off with 2000 bets (http://sports.inquirer.net/inquirersports/inquirersports/view/20080521-137857/Mindanao-POF-qualifier-kicks-off-with-2000-bets)

TUBOD, LANAO DEL Norte—The Mindanao qualifying games of the 3rd Philippine Olympic Festival will begin today with over 2,000 athletes expected to show up at the Mindanao Civic Center here.

Zamboanga, the Mindanao qualifying champion, will lead 21 other local government units in the region which have brought their best athletes to compete in 20 sports for the overall plum.

“This is a good opportunity to identify the prospective talents for the national team since we will witness the most promising athletes the region could offer in one venue,” said Philippine Olympic Committee and POF chair Robert Aventajado.

The traditional torch relay will kick off the opening rites in Linamon, from where it will pass through five other municipalities before reaching this town, which played host to the 2004 edition of the Palarong Pambansa.

Lanao Del Norte governor Khalid Dimaporo will light the Olympic cauldron during the 3 p.m. opening parade with commissioner Eric Loretizo of the Philippine Sports Commission and high-ranking provincial officials witnessing the event.

As the number of athletes ballooned to more than 2,000, organizers have added volleyball, badminton and softball to the usual roster of 17 sports of the week-long event backed by Globe, Pagcor, Accel, Summit, AMA Computer and Negros Navigation.

Medalists and topnotch performers in the Mindanao and other qualifying legs will advance to the national championships at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in October, where the most promising athletes get a rare chance to be included in the national pool.

According to Aventajado, the POF was patterned after the talent-identification programs of Australia and China, two countries considered as Olympics powerhouses.

Aventajado added that the third edition of the POF, which started with the Central-Northern Luzon qualifying in Subic last month, is the talent-search engine of the POC for the 2012 London Olympics.

General Santos City, whose swimmers accounted for 45 of the 89 gold medals it won in the Cagayan De Oro staging last year, poses the biggest threat to Zamboanga’s crown.

Zamboanga leaned on its swimmers, track and field athletes and wrestlers to capture the Mindanao title with 98 gold medals, 50 silvers and 34 bronzes.

RDCC NorMin bares Gawad Kalasag winners

by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob

Cagayan de Oro City (21 May) -- The Camiguin Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council has been cited the Gawad Kalasag Best PDCC in Northern Mindanao for 2007.

This was bared by P/Chief Supt. Teodorico B. Capuyan, after the recent validation of the PDCC's of the region for their implementation of the Disaster Management Programs (DMP) and activities conducted for the year.

An acronym for "Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan," "Kalasag" also connotes "shield" used by early Filipinos as a means of protection from attacks of enemies or harmful animals.

Capuyan, who is also the Regional DCC Chairpeson said the "Gawad Kalasag" was conceived to protect or shield high risk communities against hazards by encouraging participation of various stakeholders in designing and implementing disaster risks management (DRM) programs.

As it is, the Gawad Kalasag provides a mechanism in obtaining sustained commitment and support from the highest level of government by recognizing the exceptional contributions of the various DRM practitioners in rebuilding the resilience of communities to disaster.

At the same time, it continues to promote the spirit of volunteerism among agencies and individuals in providing the much needed help during the response phase of DRM by the local DCC's that serve as front liners in preparing for, responding to and recovering from any type of disaster or emergency.

Meanwhile, Regional Director Carmelito A. Lupo of the Office of Civil Defense, region 10, said the Gawad Kalasag recognizes the outstanding performances of local DCC's and private, volunteer and government organization emergency responders (GOER).

"It also recognizes individuals, groups or institutions who have shown extraordinary courage, heroism, capacity for self-sacrifice, and bravery against all odds in times of natural and/or man-made disasters and emergencies.

Lupo who heads the Gawad Kalasag Regional Selection Committee said the following DCC's and Private/Volunteer Organizations have been declared Gawad Kalasag winners for 2007 in their respective categories:

Best Provincial DCC - Bukidnon, first place, Camiguin, second place and Misamis Oriental, 3rd place and Best Municipal DCC, 4th-6th Class Municipality - Lugait, Mis. Or. (lone entry).

Best Urban City DCC – Iligan City, first place and Cagayan de Oro City, second place and Best Component CDCC – Oroquieta City, first place, Ozamiz Cty, 2nd place and Malaybalay City, 3rd place.

Best Urban Barangay DCC – Mantic, Tangub City, first place (lone entry), Best Rural Baragay DCC – BDCC Suarez, Iligan City, first place, Lumbo, Valencia City, second place and Lubilan, Naawan, Mis. Or., 3rd place.

Best Private/Volunteer Organization – Mahinog, Camiguin Response 143 – first place (lone entry). (PIA Region 10)

I am seldom on the air anymore as the ease and convienience of the internet is where I spend most of the time now. Although I was well equipped for most communication modes such as AM, SSB, CW, FM on HF VHF UHF, my primary mode was RTTY ( radio-teletype ) and I communicated worldwide with that on the 20 Mtr Band. I also had my own VHF RTTY Repeater for a local network. I used Teletype model 15, 19 and 28 eqipment and had a lot of fun with that. At that time I was using Collins S Line equipment for HF. Most of it is gone now, replaced with PC's and cable broadband internet. When I used ot operate RTTY no one would have believed the things we have today. I read somewhere recently that in some of the remote parts of Mindanao that some communication still takes place by " CW " ( morse code ) and telegrams. I wonder if anyone is still using Teletype Machines there ( generically known as " Teleprinter " ) . Teletype was a manufacturer of machines although comparable models were manufactured by other manufacturers in other parts of the world too.

Aboitiz to expand despite threats to food and transport units (http://www.bworldonline.com/BW052208/content.php?id=041)

CEBU CITY — Rising fuel and commodity prices make 2008 a challenging year for the food and transport businesses of Cebu-based Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV), but company officials said expansion plans would continue.

The group is spending P32 billion this year, much of which will go to its power subsidiary. "Our biggest growth will come from the generation side and that’s where we’d like to focus on," Aboitiz Equity President and Chief Executive Officer Jon Ramon Aboitiz said.

The group will charter a second cargo vessel to expand container services in Southern Mindanao and buy two second-hand catamarans for the Supercat fast ferry fleet in the Visayas. Aboitiz will also build a new feed mill in Iligan City and expand swine and breeder farms in Tarlac.

These investments are, however, minor compared with the P7.5 billion earmarked for the group’s power generation businesses this year. This is part of the P11.4 billion that subsidiary Aboitiz Power Corp. will invest in three generation projects worth P70 billion over the next three years. "Organically, other sectors will grow, but they won’t grow as fast as power," Mr. Aboitiz said.

Aboitiz Power units are investing in the construction of a 300-megawatt coal plant in Subic, a 246-megawatt coal plant in Toledo and two hydropower plants in Davao.

In his report to stockholders on Monday, Mr. Aboitiz said the food and transport businesses face a challenging year as a result of sharp increases in the prices of fuel and commodities.

But Subsidiary Aboitiz Transport System Corp. is in a position to weather the storm, he said. The company contributed P318 million to the parent last year, more than double its 2006 contribution, mainly due to the sale of three ships that generated P2.4 billion. This was used to pay a P1.8-billion debt.

"With a sound balance sheet consisting of almost no debt and with substantial cash reserves, it can afford to be flexible and focus on its new business model of being a low-cost producer," Mr. Aboitiz said.

Aboitiz Transport expects the delivery this week of a new 600-TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) container ship for MCC Transport Philippines. Inc., its joint venture with the AP Moller Maersk Group. The container ship will serve Southern Mindanao. MCC Transport operates a container ship that serves the ports of Manila, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Bacolod.

The transport firm also expects the delivery next month of two used catamarans from Portugal. By July, these vessels will have been deployed to serve the ports of Tagbilaran City in Bohol and Ormoc City in Leyte from Cebu. The vessels that now serve the Visayas routes will be transferred to Calapan.

Mr. Aboitiz said they had spent about $6 million (roughly P250 million) for both vessels. Each can carry 270 to 280 passengers. "We still had to refurbish them. These are much better and faster. We had to find the right type of craft to be able to offer low fares," he added.

Aboitiz Transport offers not only the transport of goods, but also supply chain management services through brand 2GO. It also offers cold chain transport service for perishable goods through Reefer Van Specialist, Inc. and Refrigerated Transport Services, Inc.

The group’s food business, Pilmico Foods Corp., seeks to complete a new feed mill in Iligan City by midyear. The new facility will be operated by subsidiary Fil-Am Foods, Inc. and will serve the animal nutrition needs of the Visayas-Mindanao market.

The company will also build more grain silos this year to give Pilmico the largest flourmill storage capacity in the Philippines, Mr. Aboitiz said. Finisher swine and nucleus breeder farms in Tarlac are also being expanded. These will be completed by 2009 and 2010, respectively.

"The food group faces another engaging year as we see the continued sharp increases of all commodities. We are, however, optimistic of its sustainable growth and profitability," he said. Pilmico’s contribution to group profits rose by 4% to P530 million in 2007. — Marites S. Villamor with Lovely Nica P. Lee

sorry.. my english is too bad sometimes.. "at that time"... ahahha

anyway, i'm too noob when it comes to radio technology.. hehehe... all i know is pushing the PTT button and talk... haha. My father usually operate the telegrams and CW at his company (RCP). There was no internet at his years so most of the companies data are being sent thru telegrams. but on the arrival of telefax and internet (e-mail)... my father's job as a radio operator was also diminishing... I really miss those good 'ol sounds of morse code and audible noise.. hehehe..

IMO... teleprinter and telegrams in Iligan city is now almost obsolete after mobile phones and text messaging were locally available (pager was totally nuisance at that time... ehhehe)...

yup, ingon ang mga tao didto, nganong mubayad man kuno sila nga sila man kuno ang tag-iya sa Lanao lake. :bash:

yes that's their mentality about it and we cannot argue about that with them. preho ra na sa mga higaunon sa bukidnon nga ancestral domain kuno nila ang tibuok bukidnon. but sad to say, its the government who controls NPC now and they have the right to do whatever they want to do with that water source.

The supermarket and another Jollibee. Soon to open branches are Mang Inasal and Pizza Hut though not sure if their location is at the ground level too.

Another Jollibee in Iligan ? I had the feeling there would be one in the new mall and it would not surprise me if a Greenwich Pizza and maybe a Chow King willl be in th mall also. I traveled half way around the world to go to Jollibee in Iligan and now with a third one, sooner or later I'll have to visit that one too ! With the national prescence and popularity of Jollibee in The Philippines I wonder if the number of Jollibees in any certain city, locality or region could be used as a guage of popularity, population or other indicator. With a third Jollibee that could be an indicator that Iligan is on the way up the scale !

I did not get the chance to try Chow King but it's always a good idea to have a few things to look forward to on a future visit. Best wishes to everyone on the opening of the new Mall in Iligan, I'll be looking forward to seeing the pics on SSC-Iligan !

Alingatong, nasunog ang pic sa overexposure . If you did this on a manual SLR cam, you could do some "timplada" on aperture and knowing just how long to hold the shutter open. I don't know how you can do that on a digital cam. Bobby T can surely give you some tips on this as he uses a digital camera nowadays.

I hope iligan's streets and wires gets a facelift, its better done as early as now while the city's still small and manageable.. AEV allots P900M for mill, swine farm expansion

By Elizabeth Sanchez-Lacson
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 17:46:00 05/25/2008

MANILA, Philippines---Holding firm Aboitiz Equity Ventures is spending approximately P900 million for the expansion of its feed mill in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte and swine farms in Capas, Tarlac.

AEV president Jon Ramon Aboitiz said the company was finalizing construction of its new feed mill in Iligan with completion expected by July.

"The reason we're doing that [expansion] is because we have a large increase in demand from the south. Right now we have to ship in from our plant in Tarlac so with the expansion, it becomes more efficient to service the Visayas and Mindanao areas," Aboitiz said.

The feed mill will have a production capacity of 10,000 tons a month.

AEV's flour manufacturing unit, Pilmico Foods Corp., earlier signed a P500-million, five-year loan with Security Bank Corporation (SBC), to support the company's feed mill expansion in Iligan to be operated by its subsidiary Fil-Am Foods.

As one of the country's largest flour milling companies, Pilmico Foods has been making wheat flour and related products since 1962.

Making up its flour brands are Sun Moon Star, Sunshine, Glowing Sun, Kutitap, Megastar, Gold Star and Wooden Spoon.

Its line of feed ingredients includes Hard Swine Base Feeds, Soft Swine Base Feeds, Wheat Germ and Pollard.

A new feed mill will allow production of complex animal feeds from a variety of raw materials including Pilmico's flour.

Fil-Am Foods currently makes simple swine base feeds as a by-product of its core flour milling operations.

The feed mill expansion is expected to strengthen Fil-Am Food's presence in the complex feeds market.

Aboitiz also said the group was expanding its swine farms in Tarlac.

Fil-Am Foods signed last year a P250-million, seven-year term loan also with Security Bank.

Iligan City as we know it, is finished, and there's nothing that can be done about it except congest it. The best solution, IMHO is for the development of a NEW ILIGAN, located uphill, where the infrastructures are all brand new and where the power and telecom wires are out of sight. THAT is what will draw investors in, and that is were the city will obtain an edge over any other city in the country. A city overlooking the bay. Thoughts, anyone? :blahblah:

IRA DIFFERENTIAL NGA DILI MOMINOS SA 35 MILYONES PESOS, MADAWAT SA SIYUDAD
05/26/08

Country-to-country Wi-Fi experience
Posted in The Pinoy Post by Melvin G. Calimag on 2008/05/26 15:42:02

Journalists are often invited to attend various events inside and outside the country. This month of May was particularly busy for me, as I was practically on the road almost the entire time.

Early this month, I had the chance to go to Los Angeles and San Francisco in United States. We all know that the U.S. is the world's economic superpower and is home to some of the largest technology companies. But when it comes to Wi-Fi access, Uncle Sam needs a lot of catching up to do. Asia, it seems, is the one setting the lead.

Take the airports, for example. On my way to LA, the plane that I took had a brief layover at the Hong Kong International Airport. While waiting for my connecting flight, I was able to connect my laptop to the free Wi-Fi service available in the airport. That's a far cry from the Los Angeles International Airport, better known as LAX, where one has to pay for wireless access.

In LA, I stayed at the Wilshire Grand Hotel, which, thankfully, offered free Wi-Fi access in every room. But that's probably because the place was owned by a Korean company, which wisely considered the convenience it can give to its guests even if the structure was already a bit old.

That's not the case with The Westin Hotel on Third and Market streets in downtown San Francisco, where I was billeted for an event a week later. The structure was recently renovated (it was formerly the Argent Hotel), and had a stunning view of the city from my room. But Wi-Fi access was an anomalous US$20 per day! That sucked.

Upon my return in the Philippines, I was again sent on a trip--this time in Mindanao, the country's southernmost region. I first visited Iligan, an industrial city that is home to the Philippines' largest steel and cement factories. I was there on the invitation of a non-profit group, the Foundation for IT Education, for the inauguration of a computer laboratory for teacher training.

We stayed at a small, but decent hostel located inside the sprawling campus of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), where the computer facility was located. Since we were inside a state university that was situated in a second-tier city, in a remote part of the country at that, I thought it was unlikely we could have any Wi-Fi access.

But, much to my surprise, the whole hostel was a hotspot and one that provided very decent data speed. Later in the evening, we had dinner at a restaurant that was also a free Wi-Fi zone. The bar and restaurant where we had dessert also provided free wireless access.

After Iligan, we drove one-and-a-half hours by land to the coastal city of Cagayan de Oro. A beautiful country club subdivision, located on a mountain ridge, was our home for three days and we were also for an IT event. Although there was no Wi-Fi in the cottages, the wireless access in the main clubhouse was blazing fast.

Indeed, some of the best things in the world are free.

GMA EMPLOYMENT KIOSK, GIPAHIMUTANG SA CITY HALL
05/26/08

(mta)

Iligan City as we know it, is finished, and there's nothing that can be done about it except congest it. The best solution, IMHO is for the development of a NEW ILIGAN, located uphill, where the infrastructures are all brand new and where the power and telecom wires are out of sight. THAT is what will draw investors in, and that is were the city will obtain an edge over any other city in the country. A city overlooking the bay. Thoughts, anyone? :blahblah:

two directions...uphill or reclaim.

yes, i think that reminds of me of the city of Cebu which boasts of a hilly uptown overlooking the city. In fact, a lot of hotels are building on those hills in Cebu. Mostly the medium sized mountains of cebu city have already been developed for high end residential properties.

Maganda ang planning ng city pero when it comes to implementation and maintenance, poor talaga. :bash:

that' true. Perhaps this has something to do with the people who are under the City Planning and Development Office. This office is really inutile in doing their part of planning for the city. This office should be connected with other offices in the city whether it be gov't or private--namely the City Engineer's Office, ILPI, Iligan City Waterworks System, PLDT-Maratel and other telecom companies, as well as the barangays who are all should be working in unison to ensure that the city's future planning is followed and that any future development will not be hampered by any projects that are planned at the present.

I wonder what they're doing at the moment? Or perhaps the personnel don't have the necessary capabilities in city planning... Do they have plans for the expansion of the city center?Perhaps planning for a good natural skyline for the future of the city that would accommodate future companies? Perhaps somebody should ask whether they have a plan as dynamic as that of the city of Cebu which is really doing good in their urban planning as seen in the development of the SRP (South Road Properties) as well as the future North Road of Cebu.

Even the city of Ozamiz is havng a good plan for its city just like that of Cebu. Perhaps, our CPDO should visit the planning and development offices of other cities so that they can emulate the planning and development of these cities. Or are they not researching with the present stats of city's looming development?
