Alingatong June 19th, 2008, 12:35 PM DENR imposes 'tree growing,' not just tree planting
Iligan City (June 18) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) emphasizes the need for nurturing planted seedlings to grow to their fullest, not just planting and then forgetting about them.
Mamacaya Lucman, Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO-DENR) Iligan City Office, said that the concept of 'Tree Growing' goes with this year's slogan "Kalikasan Ating Yaman, Alagaan" in line with the country's Environment Month celebration in June.
Jonalyn Porras, information officer of CENRO Iligan, who represented CENRO Lucman in an interview at PIA's radio program, said that they have lined-up activities for this month involving the community at the locality.
Among the scheduled activities was the upkeep of the Greening the Philippine Highway (GPH) Project at the Iligan City national highway slated June 10, 2008. The event would replace the seedlings that have died (plant mortality) since the project's launch in 2006 under former DENR Secretary Angelo T. Reyes.
Involved in the planting activity were its stakeholders, including the local government of Iligan through the City Environment and Management Office (CEMO), the GPH Adoptors, and CENRO-DENR personnel. Ilang-Ilang seedlings are to be used, and we will ensure a 100% survival rate, said Porras.
We have monitored a 95% survival rate of GPH project in the municipalities of Maigo and Linamon, province of Lanao del Norte. We recognize the efforts made by the two LGUs in their enthusiasm to green their highways with narra trees, Porras said.
Other activities include the display of recyclable, recycled materials for sale during the 'Waste Market Day' at SM Mall, Cagayan de Oro City last 7th June. Contributors were recyclers from barangays Maria Cristina, Tomas Cabili, and Buruun, Iligan City.
Also, we involved local residents, LGU coastal barangays of municipality of Linamon, Lanao del Norte in the coastal clean up activity, scheduled in the second week of June. As to conduct of Dalaw Turo on environmental concerns, with recipients from students of Tomas Cabili Elementary School, and community of Barangay Pugaan, Iligan City.
Patent/Land Titles distribution on 12th June held at the CENRO Office, Tubod, Iligan City, an event to remember, a land of their own, for the 100 land title claimants-farmers of Barangays Mainit and Rogongon, this city, witnessed by representatives from the DENR Region 10, Cagayan de Oro City, and Land Registration Authority (LRA), Iligan City.
A significant day on 18th June for the Local Government of Maigo, Lanao del Norte, which is the signing of Memorandum of Agreement between Maigo LGU represented by Mayor Hernando Granaderos, the Philippine Reference System (PRS) National Geodetic Control, and DENR-10 represented by Regional Executive Maximo Pichoso, took place at the DENR Office, Region 10. This is a project, first ever in the province of Lanao del Norte, second in Region 10 (Malaybalay as the 1st recipient). The PRS program will facilitate accurate public land survey in the municipality of Maigo to be conducted next month by the Environment Office. After the survey, patent processing will follow hoping that DENR can again conduct the Handog Titulo ng Pangulo distribution come month of December this year.
The Philippine Reference System points places in public places like plaza, barangay center, or schools, that will serve as reference points of geodetic surveys using GPS (Global Positioning System), a modern way of conducting accurate survey which means no overlapping in these areas, Porras explained.
There will be a multi-sectoral participation on the tree planting activity slated June 25th declared as the Philippine Arbor Day, within the city and the province as well, said Porras. (PIA Iligan)

Notice the 'Politician's Waiting Shed'.
I have no comment but here's something to think about.
Politician's Waiting Shed
This country was blessed with a tropical climate that only serve 2 conditions, rainy days and hot dry summer. There was, most of the time, dry sunny days during school days, only when it is mid July to September when the hardest rains hit the land, they call it moonsoon rains. During this period, it is hard for a public commuter like me to catch a ride from a jeepney especially when I'm on a rush.
To solve such an discomfort for the people, waiting sheds have been erected. Politicians boasts their projects, most of them, waiting sheds. Many of these, sub-standards, could not even hide you from rain if it rained with certain winds. You'll get wet, even inside these waiting sheds.
But that supposedly solution, has also become more of a problem, I think.
One, it has been a case of graft and corrupt practices for politicians here in the Philippines. Many of these sub-standard waiting sheds caused 5 to 10 times more than they should. These sheds caused more, in almost every corner, you'll see one. Even along the major hi-ways, numerous numbers of these waiting sheds can be seen, all of them, produced by politicians. There was no definite design to standardize them, you won't even see a toilet (portable or installed) near it that when you need to pee, you simply go to the back wall of the shed and release!
Another thing, it has been a major attitude changer for Filipinos riding public transport. Jeepneys would stop anywhere, where there are people waiting, not minding other users of the road. It has spoiled the commuters that they would stop the bus or jeepney to the nearest possible site to their destination. Is it the driver or the commuter that should be blamed for traffic? I think, providing standard waiting shed and terminal at designated places will lessen traffic, would provide discipline among us, would save more of our energy. Look at Singapore, even taxi's won't bother to stop at you when you are not on the right waiting / passenger terminal or shed.
Due to poverty, this sheds had also become home for those without home, hideouts / posts for sub-culture groups like fraternities and gangs, vendor's business places, and vandals favorite areas. Some people even rob these sheds of roof and posts to use in making their huts. During the nights, you won't feel safe waiting in these sheds when you see groups of young men drinking, or doing the pot, or just chatting in there, you'll feel like if someone of them made fun of you and you retaliate, all of them would come banging your face. It has been a territorial post for them.
Can't this politicians think of other useful projects to make the community worthwhile? Why not conduct business seminars, or host projects to kick start a business that would help generate income to the poor ones? With so many people without a job, or not in school or in any other worthwhile activity, they could think of nothing good but to associate with people like them and plan things that we are regretting. How many have died because of gang wars and frat wars? How many got involved in hold-ups and robberies, all done in waiting sheds and dark places near it?
I think, it is time that this politicians think not only of themselves but also think for the general good of the people, not limiting projects to waiting sheds but to think further for progress.

Alingatong June 19th, 2008, 04:37 PM KAGAMHANANG LOKAL MIGANTI SA TOP 58 TAXPAYERS SA SIYUDAD
06/18/08
Niining tuiga gibahin sa napulo’g upat ka mga kategoriya ang outstanding taxpayers nga gilangkuban sa Agriculture and Forestry, Contractors, Education, Financial Intermediation, Health and Social Works, Restaurants, Hotels, Mining and Quarrying; Other Community, Social and Personal Activities, Real Estate Renting Activities, Security Agencies, Transport and Communication, Wholesalers and Retailers ug Manufacturers.

Alingatong June 19th, 2008, 04:39 PM KONSEHO NANAWAGAN SA PUBLIKO NGA UNDANGON ANG PAGGAMIT SA ADDRESS NGA ‘ILIGAN CITY, LANAO DEL NORTE
06/18/08

(boy decena)

Alingatong June 20th, 2008, 01:18 AM Government revives plans for Mindanao rail system
06/20/2008 | 02:14 AM
MANILA, Philippines - The government has again revived plans to build a rail system in Mindanao after talks on funding by a German financial institution fell through, a ranking Transportation and Communications official told reporters Thursday.
Guiling A. Mamondiong, Transport and Communication undersecretary for Rail Transportation, said the government is conducting a new study for the first of four phases of the project that will stretch from Cagayan de Oro City to Iligan City, involving a distance of 120 kilometers from the original 82.5 kms.
"It will now be connected to Laguindingan International Airport and to the Mindanao Container Terminal. It will be both for passenger and cargo," said Mr. Mamondiong.
The new study is scheduled to be completed by September.
Initial estimates showed that the project cost could reach as much as $700 million, or about P30.1 billion, from some $520 million, or P22 billion, when the project was revived in 2004.
In 2004, Thai rail developer, Thaipicon Industrial Company, submitted to the government its $1-million feasibility study for the project.
At that time, the project also involved Germany’s Siemens Group, which was backed by the German government’s KFV soft-loan financial institution.
Plans for a Mindanao railway were concretized in the administration of former President Fidel V. Ramos, then revived by the succeeding Estrada government.
Mr. Mamondiong said the government is now in talks with potential financers from Saudi Arabia, Poland and the Czech Republic. "We hope to start the implementation of the project towards the end of 2009. It can be completed by 2013," he added.
The Cagayan de Oro-Iligan stretch of the rail system is just the first of a 2,000-kilometer six-phase rail network development in Mindanao.
The route is being prioritized, since the covered stretch is the industrial gateway and a key trade center of Mindanao.
The entire planned Mindanao railway consists of a crisscrossing network of lines linking Cagayan de Oro to Iligan, Iligan to Zamboanga City, Cagayan de Oro-Agusan-Surigao, as well as extensions to Davao and General Santos cities.
Besides Thai and German firms, Austrian, French and Indian investors had expressed interest in the project in 2004. - A. Lorenzo, BusinessWorld

Besides Thai and German firms, Austrian, French and Indian investors had expressed interest in the project in 2004. - A. Lorenzo, BusinessWorld

Alingatong June 20th, 2008, 11:13 AM AIM Coop opens Iligan Branch

ILIGAN CITY—THE Aurora Integrated Multipurpose (AIM) Cooperative expanded its operation here last week, a move “to be closer to the people,” says Pacienciano Tomarong, general manager.
The cooperative’s expansion is pursuant to a resolution approved by the annual representative assembly last March, which tackled the need to expand AIM Coop’s business operations to Lanao del Norte and to the whole of Mindanao.
AIM Coop opened their Iligan Branch last June 18. This will be their 17th branch, to be managed by Haidee Toledo as OIC branch head, along with Ma. Poinsettia Logarta as teller and Mechelle Mañada, who will serve as accounting clerk.
AIM Coop notes the composite efforts of MRED Dept. head Gay Marissa Ceniza, GM Tomarong and the board of directors for the realization of this effort.
Presently, AIM Coop has 16 branches, while its mother office is located in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, established in August 6, 1967 with 44 cooperators and a capital share of about P400.
Other AIM Coop offices can be found in Maigo, Tubod and Kapatagan, all in Lanao del Norte; Tukuran, Molave, Domingag, Midsalip, Pagadian, and Margosatubig in ZamboSur; Titay, Imelda. Kabasalan and Ipil in Zamboanga Sibugay.
In Ozamiz, AIM Coop is located at Kaamiño Street.
AIM Coop services include kiddy, regular and progressive savings and Time Deposit; loans assistance like regular, community, instant, salary and agricultural loans, Loan Against Saving and Loan Against Share Capital.
It also has Cash Express “Kwarta Padala,” an Automated Teller machine (ATM) connected with Banknet, Megalink, and Expressnet; funeral services, death assistance with Cash and free funeral package, scholarship program, relief assistance and other basic social services.
Elpedio Madrio, one of AIM Coop’s director and District-10 coordinator, declared that within this year, the cooperative hopes to open branches in Dipolog and Cebu cities and in Buug, ZamboSur.

the idea is good, except for the prevalent peace & order condition in the areas the railway traverses. we've seen in old western movies how bandits could easily overrun / commandeer a train and rob everyone on it blind. that was in the days of horses and revolvers. until the p&o condition improves, I'd say it's gonna be a scary ride. and who's gonna protect the rails from being cannibalized? we've seen NPC's posts toppled down and the steel and copper material finding their way to scrap dealers.

About ten years ago or so, customer service in the UK seemed to be becomming somewhat of an issue with those that live there and for the millions of tourists that go there as well. Mr. Derek Williams came up with an idea to recognise, award and publicise UK merchants and businesses that offered ( by UK standards ) outstanding customer service. Nominations for ” The WoW Award ” come from the consumers that patronise these merchants and businesses. As a frequent visitor to the UK I have many friends and a relative there. Even though the exchange rate is not the most desireable for USA visitors there I still lke to frequent many retail establishement there and purchase things that to me, are a bargain or something I just can’t get here in the USA, that are unique to the UK.
I wonder, if a similar program were to be initiated there in the Philippines, the recognition of outstanding merchants and businesses offering excellent customer service could create a similar effect as ” The WoW Awards ” program has created in the UK ?
I have written several articles for The WoW Awards ( UK ) about my experiences there and one of the independent merchants I nominated recieved the WoW award a few years ago which did increase his business from the positive publicity alone !
In some instances I have been able to deal directly with national distributors in the UK buying things made for the UK market only and I have recieved excellent service from them as well. My most favored UK retailers are, Richer Sounds ( where customer service is always paramount ) Thame Audio, a small independent audio store who, after meeting me in person will now drop ship items anywhere in the UK for me with just a phone call from the USA, Henley Designs Ltd , and Sound Leisure Ltd of Leeds.
On my recent visit to Mindanao, China Air misplaced my luggage and I did not know if I was ever going to see it again. I arrived in Iligan City with little more than the clothes on my back from when I left New York, and my small carry on camera case. Anticipating that I might be separated from my luggage, I carried spare ” essentials ” in my camera case.
My first day in Iligan found me at the Gaisano Dept. store where my friends brought me so I could buy some clothes. I was originally going to buy some ” local clothes ” anyway so I would have a bit less of that ” out of town look ” ( LOL ) when visiting and touring Iligan City. I found the Gaisano Dept. Store ( soon to be replaced by Gaisano Mall in Iligan ) to be well stocked, well staffed and the service very good. They even altered the pants I purchased ( length ) while I waited. I may have had a ” slight ” bit of ” Culture Clash ” upon checking out as I wanted a bigger bag than they originally put my purchases in although they did comply with my request when I became a bit ” insistant “. Upon leaving the store I had to remind myself that I was not in the USA and to try to exercise patience in an insatnce like this.
There are two Jollibee franchises in Iligan and they were foremost on my list of places I wanted to go. Both locations were very clean even at peak business times. They were well staffed and those employees I came into contact with were most polite and respectful at all times. The full service Mens ” CR ” were well stocked including hand soap and fully functional electric hand driers.
An independent eatery that really impressed me was a place called ” Zoeys Cafe ” in Iligan, Very clean, tables, chairs, fixtures etc all in excellent condition. Well staffed, great service and great tasting food well prepared and attractively served. This place really impressed me and the friendliness of the staff and propriotor made me feel that I could have been in my own home town here in the USA.
I stayed at the Elena Towers Hotel while I was in Iligan City and I would not hesitate to stay there again. I chose a ” standard ” grade room. It was clean, well equipped and all items in the room such as Air Con, Cable TV, plumbing etc. were in good working order. They advertised both Hot and Cold water for the shower and they had it. The staff was most helpful to me in making attempts to contact China Air and the Hotel management showed a genuine concern about re-uniting me with my misplaced luggage. They were most helpful in assisting me to contact China Air. My misplaced luggage did show up 3 days after my arrival.
Another local business I frequented in Iligan City was the ” Club Seven ” right next to the hotel. Each time I went there with my Iligan friends I was always greeted with a smile and handshake from the staff there. It me with an excellent atmosphere to enjoy my first taste of Sna Miguel and Red horse beer along with some great food.
As I have done in the UK for friends there, I wanted to buy some kind of useful ” Gifts ” for my closest friends there in Iligan City. I went into ” Imperial Appliance ” . At first I just wanted to see what kind of appliances are available for the Philippines market. A polite but Not overassitive salesman asked if I needed help and I told him I was just looking. I liked this store, the sales people knew their stuff when it came to the products they had on offer for purchase. The store was clean with neatly displayed merchandise with prices of the items plainly marked. I purchased a Carrier Air Con for one friend and a refridgerator for another friend. Both items were brought out, un-crated for my inspection and plugged in to verify operation before I even payed for them. Both items delivered to their recipients homes within 3 hours after purchase. I was happy and had a good time in Imperial Appliance in Iligan City and my friends were delighted as well. Isn’t this what a vacation is all about ? Having a good time ? I certainly did at Imperial Appliance in Iligan and I am sure I will be back in their store again even though I live half way around the world from them.
I had a generally favorable experience in dealing with those merchants and businesses in Iligan CIty that I visited with. Experiences like this are most definetly contributing factors as to why I want to make a return visit there and I shall patronise those businesses again. It is this kind of repeat business generated by good customer service that generates often overlooked future profits for any merchant.
Please check out http://www.thewowards.com . I wonder if a similar program in Mindanao or the entire Philippines might be a worthwhile program for someone to start up ? Rewarding those who give ” Great ” customer service, could assist those who don’t, to wake up and smell the profits they are missing .

Alingatong June 24th, 2008, 05:06 AM Cement firms hike prices P5-P10/bag
By BERNIE CAHILES–MAGKILAT
Cement companies have raised prices by P5 to P10 per bag effective yesterday as surging fuel prices have drove up freight and distribution costs. This is the second round of price hikes by the three global cement players this year, the first one was implemented in April.
Republic Cement Corp. under the French firm Lafarge Cement Services Philippines Inc. group, the largest cement maker in the country with five plants under it, has already notified the Department of Trade and Industry last Friday of its P5 to P7 per bag price increase or a new suggested retail price of P190 to P195 per bag from P185 per bag of 40-kilogram bag cement.
Republic Cement Corp. president Renato Sunico, who is also vice president of industry leader Lafarge and chair of the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines, said they need to adjust their SRP due to surging fuel prices, which have correspondingly increased their distribution, freight costs and the price of coal.
Industry official said that price of coal has reached $ 110 per ton doubling the year-ago price level. Coal accounts for 40 percent of a cement manufacturing plant’s total production cost.
"Our price increase is far below the inflation rate and is the lowest adjustment among the increases in prices of construction materials," Sunico pointed out.
Republic Cement’s subsidiaries are Fortune Cement Corporation, Continental Operating Corporation, FR Cement Corporation, Iligan Cement Corporation, Mindanao Portland Cement Corporation and Lloyds Richfield Industrial Corporation. Republic Cement is 39.22 percent owned by the French firm Lafarge.

Money and valuables were reported missing from a stall in South bound Marawi terminal yesterday June 24, 2008. The incident happened the night of June 23, 2008 between 11:00pm to 12:00 midnight. Authorities initially were not able to pinpoint the suspects.
It was Mr. Adory Magumpara, head of the South bound Bus and Jeepney Terminal, who sought the help of ICTC- SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS to find out if the recorded footage would yield any clue.
The footage taken on the night of June 23, 2008, showed three (3) men walking around the vicinity and at exactly 11:41pm, one of them started manipulating something in that particular stall that reported burglary yesterday. The other two (2) companions were walking around acting like lookouts but who later on joined the one who was busy manipulating the stall. Every move they made was captured and recorded by the surveillance camera.
Through the recorded footage of our SURVEILLANCE CAMERA, Mr. Magumpara and his men were able to identify the suspects of the burglary. A copy of the said recorded footage was given to him and a full blown investigation is now going on with the invaluable help of the video record taken by the surveillance cameras.

52 new legislative districts seen after 2010 polls – Nograles
Ben R. Rosario
Membership to the House of Representatives could balloon to 250 after the 2010 elections, up by an additional 52 since the legislative chamber was revived in 1987.
This was disclosed yesterday by Speaker Prospero Nograles as he urged the Senate to take positive action on several dozen local bills, including the proposed creation of eight more legislative districts in the country.
Nograles said several bills have already been approved on third and final reading for the creation of additional districts, and have been sent to the Senate for approval. But not included among the pending measure is a proposal to divide Quezon City from the current four to eight legislative districts.
So far, QC’s elected representatives have not filed any bill that would give their constituents a fair share of legislative representation and additional funding from congressional development allocations which reach a minimum of R70 million per congressman.
Local leaders and barangay officials have complained that despite the fact that QC has a land area four times bigger than Manila and has a population nearly double that of the capital city, it remained divided into four districts. Manila has six congressional districts.
Among the approved measures were those "separating Iligan City from the first district of Lanao del Norte," which will later become the "lone district of Iligan City."
It will thus be an additional district, as Lanao del Norte has only two districts.
Apart from this, there will also be the "reapportionment of the legislative districts in the province of Lanao del Norte" – which are currently two – and "in the lone district of Camarines Norte," which will be broken into two.
Cavite will also have four more districts, which will make it seven with the existing three.
A "new legislative district" in the formerly four- district Camarines Sur province will also rise, because there will be "changes in the composition of the first and second districts."
Plans to divide Pasig City into two congressional districts is reportedly being backed by Rep. Roman Romulo. The move was initiated by his predecessor, former Rep. Robert Jaworski Jr.
During the 13th Congress, the House managed to pass and enact several laws that created more districts, which logically increased the number of lawmakers, apart from the party-list representatives, who were entitled to at least a single seat in the chamber.
Among the new districts that mushroomed this 14th Congress are that of Shariff Kabunsuan (which used to be Maguindanao only), Zamboanga Sibugay (from Zamboanga only), the two districts of Marikina (which used to be one), Taguig-Pateros, which now has two legislative districts separating the city, the new San Jose del Monte in Bulacan, an addition to the four-district province, the division of Antipolo City into two, as well as that of Cagayan de Oro, which also has two.
Nograles revealed yesterday that of the 197 local bills they have passed, nine are of local import, like the renaming of schools. "One for the renaming of a public hospital, and one for the renaming of a regional police office," he said.
The speaker said senators should realize that these local bills "are important at revitalizing the countryside and in developing and improving the country’s education system, the environment, public health and in improving local governance."
Out of the 197 local bills, Nograles’ office disclosed that 139 of these "seek to build new national high schools that would address the congestion problem in many of the country’s intermediate schools."
"Some people think that local bills are just for the renaming of government buildings and highways, but this is not entirely true. House legislations that are of local application have long been providing our countryside with many positive changes in the areas of education, environment, public health, and good governance," Nograles said.
The House leader pointed out that local bills often are relegated to the dustbin of obscurity and drowned out by more controversial national issues because of the parochial nature of these measures.
When summed up, however, legislation seeking to create a public high school in every congressional district would also mean huge appropriations towards improving the country’s education system.
"The people must know that these local bills are the actual backbone of national development," Nograles pointed out.
"I am confident our senators will give due course to these local bills."
According to the House leader, "other vital areas of development and their programs are nurtured by individual district representatives in accordance with their respective local needs and social demands."
"The proposed 139 new national high schools nationwide would mean that ten of thousands more of our Filipino youth – especially in the countryside or rural and depressed areas – would have access to free secondary education," Nograles stressed.
These measures don’t include the conversion of a number of existing rural schools into national high schools, as well as agricultural or science high schools.

“Bobby Timonera: Proudly Iliganon”
http://www.iligan.gov.ph/images/stories/feature/bobt-m.jpg
When you browse through online photos of Iligan, chances are, you are captivated by the most exquisite photos of the city by Bobby Timonera. Scenic nature abounds in Iligan but you might wonder who the genius who creatively captures such beauty in its entire splendor is.
Bobby Timonera is an autodidact having taught himself photography without formal instruction or the help of others. During his senior year in college at MSU-IIT in 1985, he started to educate himself on the subject relying only on the camera's manual, photo magazines and books he borrowed. When everyone else was shooting color and dropping their rolls in one-hour photo labs after shoots, Bobby chose to go black and white, developing his own rolls and making his own prints in his makeshift darkroom which used to be the his parents’, Pedring and Nena’s, bathroom. He eventually transferred his darkroom into his own bedroom and continued his work until his family moved to Manila in 1992.
His early forays into black and white photography made him a finalist in Canon's Asia-Pacific Contest in 1987, finally winning honorable mention in 1991. In 1992, his photo essay on Iligan's San Miguel Fiesta won him second place in the documentary category in a photo contest sponsored by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
His 1997 photographs of an MILF firing squad in action became an eye opener for the government and the military and one of those pictures was chosen by Asiaweek magazine as among that year’s most memorable images, earning a two-page spread in the magazine's 1997 final issue.
He started exploring digital photography in 2002 with a point and shoot Olympus, which he used for a year-long contract shooting festivals all over Mindanao in 2003. He eventually upgraded to Canon EOS digital SLR system by the end of 2003, selling all his film cameras and lenses, and giving away his darkroom equipment.
Bobby is a journalist by profession, doing both news & feature writing and photojournalism equally well. As a staff writer for the Inquirer, he was given the Catholic Mass Media Award in 1997.
He now works freelance, doing the things he knows best -- photography and writing -- contributing to various publications, among them the Philippine Airlines' Mabuhay magazine, Cebu Pacific's Smile: Inflight magazine, Newsbreak, and BusinessWorld Online. He is also currently one of the editors of MindaNews.com, a cooperative of Mindanao-based journalists.
He has worked on various book and documentary projects specializing on Mindanao issues for various clients, among them the US Agency for International Development, European Union, Swiss Catholic Lenten Fund, Embassy of the United Kingdom, Volunteer Service Overseas, the German Development Service, and the Swiss publication Ferment.
He has mounted several one-man photo exhibits in Mindanao's major cities. His collection of pictures of Mindanao's colorful festivals was exhibited at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2004, the same year his photographs of Iligan's industrial plants were featured in a show in Intramuros.
His first coffee table book about Mindanao’s festivals was published in December 2006.
Bobby was born, raised, and educated in Iligan City, and intends to live here for the rest of his life with his Manileña wife, the former Miriam Roxas, a cardiologist with whom he has two kids, Kara and Arkay. He starts his day with a cup of his home-roasted specialty coffee then jogs with his pit bull around Andrada Heights Subdivision in Del Carmen.
For most of us who admire his works, this photography wizard is just an innovator who works out methods of self-development which stressed intelligent sensitivity and awareness that helped developed his perspectives in photography and life in general.

Platinum to upgrade its ferronickel operations in Philippines
Platinum Group Metals Corp will spend USD 2 million for improvements in its wholly owned subsidiary MCCI Corp’s two ferronickel smelting plants in Iligan City and Misamis Oriental in Philippines.
Platinum Group said that that the capital investment plans would boost operational efficiency, improve productivity and increase profitability of the two ferronickel smelting plants.
Mr John Cabarrus senior VP of Platinum Group in a notice to employees informed that the company would shut down both MCCI Iligan and Manticao Misamis Oriental ferronickel smelter plants for three months.
Mr Cabarrus said that “Based on management’s evaluation and assessment of the plant operations, we shall be implementing productivity and quality improvement strategies involving, among others, the installation of additional equipment.”
He added that the company would also install additional environmental and safety measures in both plants. These include pollution control devices such as the construction and improvement of siltation ponds or catch basins, chimney as smoke and sampling stack and additional filter bags, or hoods in the crushing plant.
Mr Cabarrus said that “This is in line with the company’s policy not to compromise the health and safety of its employees and stakeholders.”
Platinum Group said it hoped to operate three integrated ferronickel smelter plants in the Philippines by the end of the year after the expansion and rehabilitation program is completed.

Alingatong July 2nd, 2008, 05:07 AM "ILIGAN CITY" as an address does not need to include “Lanao del Norte,” as a part
The City Council in its recently approved Resolution No. 08-413, reiterated to the general public and the various national offices, bureaus, and local government units that Iligan City is neither a part of Lanao del Norte nor a component city and therefore correspondence destined for addresses in Iligan City do not need to include "Lanao del Norte."
The primary reason according to Councilor Bayani Areola, author of the resolution, is that Iligan City has never been a component city, but was classified in 1983 as a Highly-urbanized city. Hence Iligan City is politically and administratively separate from the province of Lanao del Norte.
This move also aims to put an end to the misconception that Iligan is still part of the province of Lanao del Norte .
Iligan was reclassified as a highly urbanized city in 1983 after its population reached 200,000. (Eza Galvez)

ANOTHER FIRST FOR GK ILIGAN: The Academe, LGU and GK coming together
http://smciligan.com/images/stories/IMG_0139.JPG
Councilors Bayani Areola, Orlando Maglinao, SMC’s S. Ma. Yolanda C. Reyes RVM, Mayor Lawrence Cruz, Tony Meloto, Councilors Joe Zalsos and Moi Dalisay.
Iligan City is one of the first Gawad Kalinga Cities, a recognition given to local government partners of the movement that builds not just houses for the poor but also building communities with no one in need.
Since it started in 1999 in Purok 2-A Barangay Tambacan to what is now popularly known to many as the Gawad Kalinga Rainbow Village, the movement has spawned to 12 sites all over the City with 700 completed houses and 12 sites in the province of Lanao Del Norte. Other than that, Iligan City was home to the many first of GK: the first Over – All Grand Winner of the 1st GK Competitions in the year 2000; the first Local Government partnership with then Mayor Franklin M. Quijano; the first multi – sectoral partnership (GK Missionville) and the first Diocesan partnership with then Bishop Emilio Bataclan (GK St. Michael’s Heights). Yet in spite of the many successes, Gawad Kalinga and its network of partners have realized there is a need to complete the work in the 12 GK sites.
“The challenge is to complete the first phase excellently” said Antonio Meloto Jr, Gawad Kalinga’s foremost champion in his recent visit to the City last April 27, 2008 wherein he lectured select students of Saint Michael’s College.
Later in another forum, Meloto challenged the gathering of political, social, business and academic leaders of the City to make the 12 sites a designers showcase. “Meaning a showcase of excellent communities, with excellent programs and infrastructures in place” he said.
He urged them not to build new GK communities for now but rather focused on the 12 GK sites.
S. Ma. Yolanda C. Reyes, RVM, the President of Saint Michael’s College was the first to commit in integrating Gawad Kalinga into its curriculum and vowed to transform one GK village into a showcase community.
Mayor Lawrence Cruz for his part also committed to build 300 more houses in the existing 12 GK villages so that the City will reach the 1,000 mark and also got the unanimous support of the City Council led by Councilor Jose Zalsos through a City Council Resolution expressing their full support to the commitment of the Mayor to Gawad Kalinga.
Taking the concrete steps, a Board of Consultors has been formed and initially made plans last May 17, 2008. Present in the gathering held at the Saint Michael’s College HRM Hotel were Antonio Meloto Jr., S. Ma. Yolanda C. Reyes RVM, Mayor Lawrence Cruz, Bro. Carlos Subang of Couples for Christ, Dr. Romero Hermosilla VP Admin of SMC, City Planning Officer Architect Gil Balondo, City Housing Officer Rey Roque and other Gawad Kalinga and Couples for Christ leaders.
Reyes has been ceremonially elected as Chairman of the Board with SMC, Mayor Cruz and the LGU and Subang of CFC joining the Board. “This is another first for Iligan with the city’s three biggest sector coming together in scaling up GK into the second phase of transforming the 12 GK sites into a designers showcase” said Meloto.
Reyes for her part accepted the challenged and has vowed to lead the whole team into accomplishing the challenge.

Alingatong July 2nd, 2008, 01:35 PM Iligan price body steps up market monitoring
Iligan City (2 July) -- The Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) of Iligan spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Iligan Office, has been actively monitoring the price situation in the market, this city, according to Annabelle B. Encabo, Chief, Business Regulations Consumer Welfare Division-DTI Iligan.
Trade and Industry Secretary Peter B. Favila has ordered intensified market monitoring in our areas of concern to survey prices of basic goods and prime commodities, while at the same time increase government visibility in selling areas, Encabo said.
Amid rising prices of petroleum and reports of impending price hikes in certain goods, Secretary Favila advised consumers to practice wise buying and not unnecessarily upset themselves.
"Although other brands will or have adjusted their prices, some remain unchanged. Consumers will just have to be more discriminating when it comes to buying by comparing prices and using a shopping list so they do not go over their budget," advised Secretary Favila.
While it is said that the government is not denying businesses their right to a fair return of investment, but to sell product at a price that is "in excess of its true worth" is profiteering which is a violation of Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act.
Through the active participation of the members of our Local Price Coordinating Council here, composed of the city mayor as the chairman, different offices from the city government, and the line government agencies, we have intensified our monitoring activity in a weekly basis, especially with the onset of rice crisis, said Encabo.
Our team has implemented the Price Tags Act in the market and together with the efforts exerted by the Office of the Permits & Licenses of the City Government, it has confiscated inaccurate weighing scales and has warned all retailers to be cautious and comply with the requirements as the law mandates.
As to information dissemination on updates and price monitoring reports, Encabo said that the LPCC through DTI Iligan-being the council's Secretariat, furnishes a weekly copy of the report to the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), an LPCC member, for airing at the PIA's radio program every Sunday. We also coordinate with the City Information Office (CIO), under the Office of the City Mayor, for dissemination of information in our local radio stations.
We have set a meeting with the LPCC Price Billboard Committee to finalize the plan of putting up price billboards to be posted at the city's two markets for consumers to keep track with the current price/suggested retail price of commodities, Encabo said.
The LPCC- created way back year 1995, has been instrumental in aid to the government's clearing the market of unscrupulous practices through intensified monitoring in all establishments- groceries and at the wet markets, said Encabo. (PIA Iligan)

Tinago Falls: A soul sanctuary in Iligan City, Philippines
Iligan City is known in the Philippines as the “City of Waterfalls.” For many years, the city has been known for being home to the majestic Maria Christina Falls. Today, another tourist attraction in the city has grown popular throughout the country - Tinago Falls. The awe-inspiring spot is located in Brgy. Ditucalan, Iligan City.
The name ‘Tinago’ was derived from the Filipino word which means ‘hidden.’ The fascinating attraction is indeed hidden. Cloaked in a deep ravine, the waterfall features a main waterfall and several smaller ones. Its cascading cold, cold waters which fall beautifully into a calm pool is about 240 feet high.
Reaching Tinago Falls however requires you to be in good physical condition as you still have to descend on a 500-step winding staircase. Nevertheless, the efforts of the trekker pay off at his/her first sight of the attraction. The magnificent waterfall is a unique sight that any first-time tourist has certainly never seen.
Tinago Falls is a place of unmatched fun and satisfaction. It has a small cave under the cascading waters where visitors can stay and listen to the sound of nature’s rumbling. The man-made swimming pools for children are also perfect for family enjoyment. And of course, the foot of the falls is where every tourist can experience the cold waters from above.
Our daily routine brings us nothing but stress, exhaustion, boredom, and emptiness. At times we seek things beyond money to satisfy not just our body or mind but our soul as well. Tinago Falls is a soul sanctuary as its tranquil splendor takes us to a peaceful state that is experienced only by the divine.

PSC, LGUs map out sports dev't plan for Mindanao (http://www.mindanews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4678&Itemid=61)

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (MindaNews/03 July) – “This is not a lonely journey for Mindanao”.
Thus, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez foresees the flight of sports development program mapped out for Mindanao and assured the sports stake holders across the island.
“This is not just for games, “said Ramirez in his inspirational message during the short and simple but fitting opening rites of the Mindanao Sports Summit 2008 held at the Function hall of the Mindanao Civic Center.
“This is all about the people of Mindanao and the richness of Mindanao, “added the highest sports official of the land who reiterated his believe that sports could be the instrument to achieve peace in Mindanao and promote the island as a land of harmony and prosperity.
Ramirez, a native of Davao, said strengthening the sports development in Mindanao “can put as together as one despite differences in religion, culture and status”.
“In sports, no one bother to ask your religion or status. They (Mindanawons) will just play, develop camaraderie and friendship through sports, “said Ramirez, a former professor at the Ateneo de Davao University.
Ramirez, the father of the islands sports for peace program dubbed as Mindanao Friendship Games (MFG), said ‘we should forge partnership to all parties to ensure the success of the sports development plan for Mindanao.
“Is not that beautiful we come together as one and work jointly for the betterment of our Mindanao because there’s so much to be done in the island?,” asked Ramirez.
The PSC chief told the sports leaders from various local government units who took part in the two-day summit, to ask the support of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) or New People’s Army just to make certain the successful turn out of your program if essential and needed.
Lanao del Norte Gov. Khalid Dimaporo said a genuine and essential sports development program would provide an avenue for the young Mindanawons for better life.
“It could also promote Mindanao in good way, not any more as a land of conflict or a war torn area but a land of peace and prosperity, “ said Dimaporo, the country’s youngest governor at 28.
The governor foresees a much better future for Mindanao with an existence of a genuine and essential sports program that could help lure visitors and investors.
Before announcing the revival of the MFG this November, Ramirez expressed disappointments over the dormancy of the multi-sport events for LGU’s in the island for half a decade.
The MFG, which had sent a strong message of peace in the region in 2001, 2002 and 2003, was scrapped in the calendar of the national sports agency in 2004 reportedly due to funding shortage.
The games were then held in Cagayan de Oro City in 2002 and finally in Mati, Davao Oriental the following year.
The revival of the games will be held in this town, the capital of Lanao Del Norte, the venue of its inauguration in 2001, a year after the "all-out war" against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) erupted in the municipality of Kauswagan in the same province.
Ramirez recalled the desire and determination shown by former Gov. Imelda Dimaporo, mother of Khalid, to host the inauguration of the MFG. (Rico Biliran/MindaNews)

Im hoping that this scenario will become regular in iligan. I remember how much hassle those jeepney drivers are causing. Most especially in zoey cafe and pop rock areas. They transform the whole place into a terminal. And like drivers here in manila, many iligan drivers load and unload in the middle of the streets. But the good thing about iligan's case is that it is more manageable at the moment.
Any gmall updates po?
TONZI July 6th, 2008, 05:01 AM ^^ yeah, that area in pop rock is turned into a terminal everyday specially from 5pm to 9 pm. I wonder if the city traffic can assign CSU officers that have flexible workshifts from 3pm to 9pm coz that area really needs attention.
One time when I was able to talk to one of the criminology students who had their OJT without the presence of a real traffic enforcer, they really looked funny when drivers refused to follow their orders. If there was a police officer with them then driver would follow them.
Its really odd seeing CSU officers in groups on a not so busy street when there are streets that need attention from them. I could only surmise on that area near Tambacan Bridge where most of cargo trucks would pass through. Perhaps because it is where the "greens" are greener than on that area near Poprock, right guys?
I'm sorry for this comment but if you observe traffic everyday which I see daily, it seems that no one is paying attention to these areas Or perhaps we are having blindfolded officials here in the city?

Everyone would have to agree with you.. What really pisses me before is when you find out that there's only 2 or 3 jeepneys ahead of you and the waiting time is like a queue of a hundred jeepneys. And i believe that now is the right time for major road widening in iligan. Tibanga area is admirable but mahayahay to tubod and pala-o areas need improvement. Center islands are also much needed to avoid u-turns just anywhere.
TONZI July 6th, 2008, 07:55 AM Yes but first we would have to address first our traffic system before those. Perhaps re-evaluate the CSU traffic enforcers as well as the managing director of the office coz it seems that they are not seeing what's happening in the major CBD streets.
They should leave 2 CSUs at the Tambacan bridge coz what they are doing there is nothing but collecting "miscellaneous fees" from cargo trucks. Perhaps its really greener there than in Poprock area.

Alingatong July 7th, 2008, 12:52 PM ICDCC joins nationwide earthquake evacuation drill
Iligan City (July 7) -- The Iligan City Disaster Coordinating Council (ICDCC) established an effective system to strengthen disaster preparedness for effective response with the pupils of the Doña Juana Memorial School in Palao, Iligan City.
Simultaneously done nationwide last July 3, around 600 pupils from Grades 3 to 4 of the said school were given a specific activity with an earthquake evacuation drill conducted within the school.
Allan B. Padilla, officer-in-charge, ICDCC-Disaster Management Operation Center, Iligan City, said that the pupils were given an orientation/lecture first on fire and earthquake- what they are, how and why they occur, what to do before, during and after fire or an earthquake, then followed by a drill.
Also, we distributed information education communication (IEC) materials to the school, all materials provided by the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), Region 10. To ensure that disaster risk reduction is a national and a local priority with a strong institutional basis for implementation, thus, building a culture of safety and resilience at all levels.
Members of the city disaster team composed of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), the Communication Rescue Unit (CRU)-Emergency 811, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD), other prime contributors like the non-government organizations, private/volunteer organizations, and the Government Emergency Managers.
We involve other schools in the city with the fire and earthquake drill in a week-long activity in observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month this July.
Posters on disaster consciousness month were distributed and being hanged or displayed at the strategic places like markets, terminals, churches and schools, said Padilla. It contained the theme for this year, "PAG ALERTO, MALAYO SA PELIGRO".
A simultaneous mangrove planting and the "Linis Bayan/Brigada Kontra Baha" will be conducted on July 25, involving the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, the Purok Federation and the different Barangay Disaster Coordinating Councils (BDCCs) of the city, said Padilla. (PIA Iligan)

Alingatong July 7th, 2008, 03:32 PM Agency sets sale date of Iligan power plants
07/07/2008 | 02:15 PM
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine agency tasked to sell the government’s power assets has set the auction date for the 114-megawatt (MW) Iligan I & II Diesel Power Plant (IDPP 1&2) Complex in Northern Mindanao.
Entities interested in running the facilities will be permitted until 5 pm of July 24, 2008 to submit a letter of interest according to the Invitation to Bid announcement released by the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp (PSALM). The agency said that the bid announcement will be published in local newspapers from July 7 to 9.
Besides paying a non-refundable fee of $2,000 before July 25, interested investors are also required to endorse a confidentiality agreement with the agency as well as obtain a copy of the bidding package, which includes bidding procedures.
The schedule will also allow investors almost three months—from July 14 to October 8—to conduct due diligence, a process involving the physical examination of the assets and its financial statements. A pre-bid conference will be held on August 1, 2008.
“PSALM has set the bidding for the Iligan-based power plant complex on 15 October 2008. It will adopt the two-envelope bidding system, which it has used in previous bidding exercises," the agency said.
Located in Mapalad, Dalipuga in Iligan City, some 74 kilometers southwest of Cagayan de Oro City, the IDPP 1&2 complex runs on Bunker C and/or diesel fuel types for its start-up and shutdown operations.
Both were commissioned in 1993.

Mindanao Friendship Games back on Nov. 10 to 15 (http://www.mindanews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4700&Itemid=61)
TUBOD, Lanao Del Norte (MindaNews/6 July) -- After half a decade of dormancy, the sports for peace program aimed at helping secure peace in Mindanao and promote the island as a land of prosperity comes to life again with the revival of the Mindanao Friendship Games (MFG) this year.
Hosted anew by the provincial government of Lanao del Norte under the leadership of Gov. Khalid Dimaporo, the multi-sport event among the island's local government units (LGUs) will take center stage on Nov. 10-15 in this province where it was inaugurated five years ago.
The MFG had sent a strong message of peace in the region in 2001, 2002 and 2003 but was scrapped in the calendar of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) in 2004 reportedly due to funding shortage.
The revival of the games was discussed during the two-day Mindanao Sports Summit 2008 here which culminated Friday afternoon.
PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez said the revival of the MFG, which was last held in Mati, Davao Oriental in 2003, is "for the people of Mindanao."
"The MFG can put us together in one place and play despite our differences in religion, culture and status," said Ramirez, adding: "In MFG, no one bothers to ask your religion or status. We just play, develop camaraderie and friendship through sports."
According to the MFG charter, the fundamental principles of the games are developing champions for talent identification to the national pool, sporting brotherhood for Christians, Muslims and Lumads and sharing culture.
"The MFG not only offers competition and development but endeavors to be similar benefit to a Mindanaoan by adopting a culture from one place, integrating positive values of one cultural characteristics," it added.
The national sports agency trimmed down the number of sport disciplines that would be competed in the revival of the MFG, limiting to those sport where Mindanaoans could potentially excel in the national or international level.
Joseph Encabo, senior executive assistant to the PSC chief, said this year's MFG will only feature 10 sport events, including the "identified focus sports for Mindanao" -- boxing, swimming, taekwondo, athletics and chess.
Other events were decided by the sports stakeholders who attended the sports summit and they agreed to include football, volleyball, lawn tennis, badminton and the country's famous sport, basketball.
The games will be played at the 18-hectare sports facilities of the Mindanao Civic Center within a 71-hectare integrated complex that also a houses a hotel and provincial trade center.
The MFG was launched in Tubod, Lanao del Norte in 2001, a year after the "all-out war" against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) erupted in the municipality of Kauswagan in the same province. The war eventually spread in some other parts of the island with MILF presence.
The games were then held in Cagayan de Oro City in 2002 and finally in Mati, Davao Oriental the following year. (Rico Biliran / MindaNews)

Lanao del Norte offers MCC as site for sports institute (http://www.mindanews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4699&Itemid=61)

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (MindaNews/6 July) -- The provincial government of Lanao del Norte is offering the Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) to become the site for the Philippine Sports Institute.
Gov. Khalid Dimaporo said they have been proposing to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to set up the country's sports institute inside the 71-hectare integrated complex.
"But everything is still up for discussion," said Dimaporo, the country's youngest governor at 28.
Dimaporo, son of former Gov. Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo and incumbent Rep. Abdullah Dimaporo (2nd Dist.), said the provincial government "just wants to maximize the usage of the MCC" which houses a hotel, cafeteria, gym, swimming pool, oval, and other sports facilities.
MCC was the first sports hub of the Mindanao Friendship Games, a sports for peace program inaugurated in 2001 but became dormant after three stagings.
Dimaporo said that making the MCC as the PSI site will "play a vital and crucial role towards making the province as sports tourism destination."
A few months ago, the PSC identified several venues considered for the institute, including the MCC, Philsports and Panaad Sports Complex in Bacolod City.
The sports institute hopes to bridge the grassroots and elite sports by coming up with academic courses related to sports for athletes, coaches and sports practitioners.
"The PSI will not just give seminars and conferences but offer courses accredited by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)," said PSC chair William "Butch" Ramirez.
Ramirez, in an earlier interview, said the country is missing a lot by not having an operational sports institution like its Southeast Asian neighbors.
Dimaporo said they are planning to bid again for the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa, a multi-sport event among elementary and secondary students nationwide.
"We want to host events as much as possible here in Lanao del Norte to maximize what we have,” he said, adding that hosting events could help the province lure more visitors and investors.
Lanao del Norte recently hosted the Mindanao Qualifying of the Philippine Olympic Festival with the MCC as the main venue.
Last week, the province co-sponsored the hosting of the Mindanao Sports Summit 2008. The participants, mostly sports coordinators of the island's local government units (LGU), were billeted at the hotel inside the MCC. (Rico Biliran / MindaNews)

MANILA, Philippines--Ensuring that it will be on track to meeting its privatization targets for the year, Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. has started the bidding procedure for the 114-megawatt (MW) Iligan I and II diesel power plant complex in Northern Mindanao.
In an invitation to bid published Monday, PSALM said interested bidders had until 5 p.m. on July 24 to signify their interest, through a letter of intent, to bid for National Power Corp.'s generation facility.
Interested bidders are required to sign a confidentiality agreement and pay a nonrefundable fee of $2,000 on or before July 25 to enable them to secure a copy of the bidding package, which contains the bidding rules and procedure.
Interested parties may conduct due diligence of the Iligan power complex from July 14 to Oct. 8, 2008. The deadline for the submission of bids was set for Oct. 15.
PSALM will hold a pre-bid conference on Aug. 1. This will give prospective bidders a chance to clear whatever issues or concerns they may have regarding the plant or the bidding guidelines.
The Iligan I a nd II plants, both commissioned in 1993, are located in Dalipuga, Iligan City, about 74 kilometers southwest of Cagayan de Oro City.
The generation facility runs on bunker C and diesel fuels.
PSALM's privatization timetable for 2008 entails the sale of 14 plants, some of them to be sold in bundles.
The 0.8-MW Amlan hydropower plant and the 747.5-MW Tiwi-MakBan facilities in Albay, Laguna and Batangas, both originally scheduled for auction in June, had been rescheduled for sale on July 23 and July 30, respectively.
The 146.5-MW Panay diesel-fired power plant, previously bundled with the 192.5-MW Palinpinon geothermal facility, will now be packaged with the 22-MW Bohol diesel-run power plant and sold within the third quarter.
The Panay-Bohol package, as with the 620-MW Limay combined-cycle plant, was originally scheduled for sale in July but might have to be pushed back due to adjustments in the bidding dates for Amlan and Tiwi-MakBan.
The Palinpinon plant, still laden with problems regarding the geothermal resources sales contract to be attached to it, was originally scheduled for bidding in August. This, too, would have to be moved back yet again.

Tuesday, July 8, 2008 The Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) has opened the bidding process for the 114-megawatt (MW) Iligan I and II diesel power plant complex in Northern Mindanao.
PSALM said the sale of the Iligan facilities will kick off the government’s power privatization program for the second semester this year.
The asset manager said it will issue tomorrow the Invitation to Bid (ITB) stating that interested parties have until 5 p.m. of July 24 to signify their interest to bid for the asset.
The prospective bidders are also required to execute and undertake a confidentiality agreement and an undertaking with PSALM and pay a non-refundable fee of $2,000 on or before July 25 to be able to obtain a copy of the bidding package, which includes the bidding procedures.
The bid invitation will also allow a due diligence period for qualified investor groups from July 14 to Oct. 8.
PSALM will hold a pre-bid conference for the potential bidders on Aug. 1 at its main office in Makati City.
It has set the bidding for the Iligan-based power plant complex on Oct. 15, the two-envelope bidding system which has been used in previous biddings.
Situated in the locality of Mapalad, Dalipuga in Iligan City, approximately 74 kilometers southwest of Cagayan de Oro City, the complex runs on Bunker C and/or diesel fuel types for its start-up and shutdown operations. Both units were commissioned in 1993.
PSALM noted that its sale of the generating assets of National Power Corp. (Napocor) has been very successful over the past two years.
It sold the 112-MW Pantabangan-Masiway plant package and the 360-MW Magat hydropower plants in 2006.

Manhunt vs robbers continues (http://http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/cag/2008/06/02/news/manhunt.vs.robbers.continues.html)
By Stephanie S. Viovicente
LAW enforcement authorities continue to pursue three armed men who robbed, shot and wounded a passenger on a jeepney here last weekend.
The victim, Danny Pacon, 35, a resident of Malabang, Lanao del Sur sustained a gunshot wound on his left foot after the suspects shot him.
The suspects took Pacon's cash amounting to P100 thousand and his cellphone worth P19,000.00.
Senior Police Officer 1 Joel Tare of the Agora Police Station 3 said Pacon was on a jeepney bound for Barangay Gusa when the suspects also boarded the same vehicle.
One of the suspects then declared they are staging a robbery and pointed a gun to Pacon who was seated at the front.
Tare said the suspects fled using a black Honda XRM motorcycle toward Galaxy Street in Barangay Gusa after shooting Pacon and taking away his money and phone.
Responding policemen found an empty .45 caliber shell inside the passenger jeepney.

g0Rs July 9th, 2008, 12:22 PM Mindanao builds up its BPO sector
With Davao and Cagayan de Oro well on the way to becoming business process outsourcing hubs, other Mindanao cities are also working to attract BPO locators in search of a sustainable supply of trained workers and low overhead.
The Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) says in its recently completed industry roadmap that the country’s BPO sector and its allied information technology and engineering sectors have the potential to grow by 40 percent annually through 2010.
To succeed in this, BPAP says, the Philippines must "develop the 75 percent of all available talent that presently resides outside the National Capital Region, which is not being fully leveraged by the industry."
This could "raise total direct employment to 900,000, meaning 600,000 new jobs," BPAP states.
XMG Asia Pacific, in a recent study on the global BPO industry cited by various news organizations, has classed Davao with other emerging offshoring cities like Jakarta in Indonesia and Montevideo in Uruguay.
Both Davao and Cagayan de Oro have attracted leading call center operators, such as Link2Support, Inc. Other Mindanao cities are looking to benefit from the rapid growth of the BPO industry in these two hubs, as firms continue to search for trained labor and cheap locations.
To maintain the Philippine industry’s momentum, BPAP advocates a more balanced geographic spread for locators, to help mitigate overhead costs and salaries, "and even rates of attrition."
Promising locations in Mindanao include General Santos, Zamboanga, Cotabato City, Marawi and Iligan, according to USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program, which is helping to expand employment opportunities and improve IT infrastructure in the region.
Sustainable supply of workers
With white-collar collar jobs scarcer in Mindanao than in Luzon, incoming BPO firms face less competition in hiring the "best and the brightest" in the region, where a quarter of the national population resides.
Davao’s workforce is estimated to be twice that of Cebu, seven times that of Angeles/Clark, and six times that of Baguio, according to the XMG study. Another major advantage cited is Davao’s large annual yield of information technology- and BPO-qualified graduates; 40 percent higher than that of Baguio.
These statistics do not include the potential workforce supply from nearby cities and provinces. One of Mindanao’s competitive advantages is that most of its provinces form a single land mass, in contrast to the rest of the archipelago. Improved road infrastructure has resulted in increasingly shorter commutes into cities by workers from other municipalities.
Mindanao’s tertiary-level academic institutions — which are at par with the rest of the country — are concentrated in urban centers which are likely BPO locations. Zamboanga City, the sixth most populous city (approx. 750,000) in the Philippines, has over 60 universities and colleges.
The cities of Iligan and Marawi, just half an hour apart, have a combined student population of 25,000 in their Mindanao State University (MSU) campuses alone.
BPO wage rates are competitive in Mindanao, where BPO agents earn P6,500-P10,000 a month, reflecting the lower cost of living. This is significantly less than the P9,000-P18,000 earned by agents in Metro Manila.
Brenda Nazareth-Manzano, regional director of the Department of Science and Technology in Zamboanga, points out that BPO firms locating in Mindanao have the benefit of strong backing by local governments, line agencies and the private sector.
"In Zamboanga, the telecomms and energy sector agencies are working with the city government and the business community to bring in firms," said Nazareth. "BPO firms who come in will have the full benefit of this cooperation." (GEM)

gORs, this means exactly what it says. the "survey" is not what one would normally think it is, of walking around and asking people's opinions. it is an actual gathering of data from the various LGUs, and comparing them with one another, and with previous years' results. the results tell us that Iligan has slid down in some, if not all, categories used in the ranking. I'm pretty certain we've failed in infrastructure. it is something that has been neglected for several years (read terms) already. instead of building infrastructure, cosmetics has been resorted to. Alingatong July 9th, 2008, 03:04 PM Iligan's barangay disaster bodies learn disaster vigilance, management
Iligan City (July 9) -- We successfully conducted trainings on disaster preparedness and management to about 18% already of the existing Barangay Disaster Coordinating Councils (BDCCs) organized in our city, said Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz of Iligan.
Of the 44 barangays, we clustered them into 12 for the conduct of trainings which started last May of this year, giving priority to flood-prone and coastal barangays to be active BDCCs, Cruz said.
Through our City Disaster Coordinating Council (CDCC) -- a Gawad Kalasag Awardee -- being an Outstanding CDDC for Highly Urbanized City Category/and able to represent at the national level competition, we have established a trainers' pool who are then responsible to conduct various trainings at the different BDCCs with accompanying training modules, said Cruz. Some of our trainers are being invited by the neighboring local government units, the non-government organizations, to conduct trainings on emergency response and rescue operation.
We hold on to the Training Modules- a Community-Based Disaster Preparedness, which the CDCC had initiatively compiled, to include training materials from the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), said Cruz.
The training modules consist of disaster preparedness- to discuss on the Philippine Situation, types of disaster, phases of disaster, when to declare State of Calamity and the LGU's Calamity Fund.
The Basic Life Saving Skills is introduced, so with basic fire and protection and prevention. Communication Ethics is also discussed, and police matters.
On the last day of the training is the conduct of the Incident Command System (ICS) wherein a scenario is played out and all participating components perform their roles.
Again, through the initiative of the CDCC, our city has procured early this year five wooden work boats which we will use to ferry flood victims, Cruz concluded. (PIA Iligan)

Iligan City (July 9) -- Officer-in-charge Vidal S. Aranaydo of LTFRB Sub-Office, Iligan City, has reported that the Iligan City Taxi Operators Association (ICTOA) and will just wait for the result on the proposed additional taxi flag-down rate of P10 at the national level.
At present, Iligan's flag-down rate is P30, and ICTOA has chosen not to file any petition for increase, but only waits for what shall be approved, taking into consideration the petition of P40 filed by the taxi operators associations in both cities of Davao and Cagayan de Oro.
Meanwhile, the Coalition of Lanao Utility Transport for Change (CLUTCH), this city, seeks for fare hike to P8 for public utility jeepneys, said Aranaydo. Their demand was filed three months ago when fuel started the trend of weekly price increases.
Aranaydo said that some drivers commented that with the recent fuel price increases of P2/liter for diesel and P1/liter for gasoline, the minimum fare should be raised to P10.
Their plan of pushing for a dialogue with the right authority to discuss their demand is recommended by members of the Clutch, said Aranaydo. (PIA Iligan)

Iligan City (July 9) -- Effective June 01, 2008, all covered workers and employees in the private sector in Region 10 receiving the minimum wage shall receive a new Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in the amount of Twelve Pesos (P12.00) per day.
Under Wage Category l comprising Cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, and the Municipalities of Tagoloan, Villanueva and Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, for non-agriculture: New Minimum Wage Rates is P256.00 (P234.00-old) with New COLA under W.O.No.RX-14 is P12.00 (P10.00-old), while for agriculture: New Minimum Wage rates is P244.00 (P222.00-old), New COLA is P12.00 (P10.00-old).
Remegio Cabañog, Labor Head, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Iligan Office, said that the rules implementing Wage Order No. RX-14, providing new minimum wage rates in Region 10 is pursuant to Section 6, Rule 1V of the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) amended Rules of Procedure on Minimum Wage Fixing, and Section 24 of Wage Order No. RX-14, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board Region 10 which issues rules for the guidance and compliance of all concerned.
Cabañog explained that their department shall conduct inspections of establishments, as often as necessary, to determine whether the workers are paid the prescribed wage rates and other benefits granted by law or any Wage Order.
But, we are giving leeway to employers to voluntarily comply said wage order. We are giving them chance if necessary not to implement yet due to their adjustment resulting to high cost of operation. So, we temporarily suspend our monitoring as to implementation of the new wage order, said Cabañog. (PIA Iligan)

ILIGAN CITY—Lanao del Norte First District Rep. Vicente “Varf” Belmonte’s move separating Iligan City from the rest of the province is now in its high point, as he told MINDANAO MONITOR in an interview inside his house that his HB 4050 is now in final reading, per Committee Report No. 495.
HB 4050, explained Belmonte, is “An act separating the city of Iligan from the first legislative district of the province of Lanao del Norte and constitute the lone legislative district of the city.”
Iligan city was created on June 16, 1950 declared a highly urbanized city in 1983 and at present has 44 barangays.
The National Statistics Office predicts Iligan’s 2007 population of 285,061 will grow to 342,087 by 2010.
Iligan City as present, it was learned, has a population of more than 340,000, enough to constitute a separate district away from its mother province.
Last year, Belmonte first filed HB 3164. On the other hand, Rep. Abdullah “Bobby” Dimaporo of the second district filed HB 2824, which will reapportion Lanao del Norte into two districts.

g0Rs July 9th, 2008, 07:26 PM Lanao del Norte marks 49th anniversary
Tubod, Lanao del Norte (9 July) -- All roads led to the agricultural town of Tubod for the7-day celebration of Lanao del Norte's 49th charter day.
The festivity was opened with the Tabo-an/Padian Day where products from the different municipalities in the province under the One Town One Product (OTOP) program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) were displayed in the town's agora grounds.
Among the highlights of environment day held last June 28 were the tree planting activity by provincial government officials and employees at Mount Torongtorong and the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the provincial government of Lanao del Norte and the DENR regional office.
"The joint management of the timberlands of Lanao del Norte with DENR and the provincial government will ensure that there will be no more illegal cutting of trees in the province," declared Governor Khalid Dimaporo. Candidates for the Ms. Lanao del Norte pageant were also present during the affair donning their "jungle" costume for presentation to the media.
To provide job opportunities and a new means of livelihood, the largest mariculture zone in northern Mindanao with an area of 1,372 hectares was launched by Gov. Dimaporo at Sultan Naga Dimaporo.
The ceremonial stocking of 20,000 bangus fingerlings that would produce 10 tons of bangus every 3 month was witnessed by Lanao del Norte Vice-Governor Irma Umpa Ali, BFAR Regional Director David Ernacio, Provincial Board Member Casimiro Bagol, and SND Municipal Mayor Motalib Dimaporo.
On the morning of that same day, the Teacher's Day program was held at the Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) gymnasium. "We can only ensure the future of the province by investing in the children of Lanao del Norte", disclosed Governor Dimaporo. Both the public school teachers and students were in full force as the governor outlined his plans for the active role the education sector will take in the upcoming sporting activities at MCC.
The tourism day celebration on the fifth day showcased the colorful and rich cultural heritage of the province as contingents from 11 municipalities compete in the Showdown of Festivals where the municipality of Tubod with their Sagingan Festival came out on top.
Another crowd drawer was the Sagayan Festival with the contingent from the municipality of Salvador being declared as this year's best group.
Capturing the theme "culture of peace," entries for the painting and photography competition were also exhibited at the media center in MCC. To cap off the tourism day festivities, 17 beautiful ladies from all municipalities of the province vied for the title of Miss Lanao del Norte. Tubod representative Elyza Jade Dalongenes was crowned the winner by the judges.
The "People's Day" which was organized by the provincial government of Lanao del Norte was its way of bringing the government closer to the people. Services from National Line Agencies (NGA) were brought to MCC gymnasium. Simultaneously, medical and dental missions were also on-site to give access to the needy residents of the province to quality health care services.
On the evening of "People's Day," the popular band "Parokya ni Edgar" entertained constituents and guests of the province. After the jam-packed concert, people were treated to a breath-taking fireworks display that captivated the mammoth crowd at MCC and the residents of nearby barangays.
On the 4th of July, barangay, municipal and provincial officials marched towards the grandstand of the Mindanao Civic Center to show solidarity and support to the leadership of Governor Khalid Dimaporo. To advance agricultural productivity and economic conditions of Lanao del Norte, guest speaker Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri identified the Municipality of Linamon as the site for a Jatropha nursery here in northern Mindanao.
"Just three kilos of jatropha seeds will already produce a liter of bio-diesel and it will also raise the income of our marginalized farmers", revealed the senator from Bukidnon.
Speaking before the government employees and the media, the senator was pleased to announce that in partnership with provincial governor Khalid Quidranza Dimaporo, 500 hectares of prime agricultural land in Linamon have already been tagged as Jatropha Nursery. Speaking at the culmination rites of the 49th Araw ng Lanao del Norte, the senator announced that in partnership with provincial governor Khalid Quidranza Dimaporo, 500 hectares of prime agricultural land have already been tagged as a jatropha nursery in Linamon.
The LGU-led initiative will enable marginalized farmers to get jatropha seeds at a minimal price and will provide them with an expelling facility to extract the precious oil from the harvested seeds. The extracted oil can now be purchased by the provincial government or sold to a refining company. This would translate to added income for the local farmers and the LGU as well.
To fast-track the research and development of the biofuel program, a 15-million Renewable Energy Center is now being constructed at the UP Los Baños campus. This facility will be managed by Dean Liborio S. Cabanilla of the College of Economics and Management who will look into the business development aspect of the program.
For its part, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has developed the expeller machinery that will extract the oil from the jatropha seed. The PNOC Alternative Fuels Program is also experimenting with different varieties of the jatropha plant which can produce up to 45% oil.
The jatropha cake, a residue of the extraction process, is another potential source of income for farmers since this can be sold to NAPOCOR as an eco-friendly replacement for bunker and coal fuel.
The province of Lanao del Norte is also set to benefit financially through this program, as the LGU will earn "carbon credits" for every biofuel tree planted in its area. These carbon credits will be purchased by countries using fossil fuel at 20 euros per credit.
In the case of the province of Bukinon, which earned 70,000 carbon credits, the additional earning of 1.4 million euros will be used to improve its rural infrastructure and provide quality basic services to its constituents. (VNL / Provincial Information Office–Lanao del Norte)

Bored ka lang kaya ka nagkagan-yan. :)
'Lam mo, you remind me of the boy who cried wolf.
Here's the story:
There once was a shepherd boy who was bored as he sat on the hillside watching the village sheep. To amuse himself he took a great breath and sang out, "Wolf! Wolf! The Wolf is chasing the sheep!"
The villagers came running up the hill to help the boy drive the wolf away. But when they arrived at the top of the hill, they found no wolf. The boy laughed at the sight of their angry faces.
"Don't cry 'wolf', shepherd boy," said the villagers, "when there's no wolf!" They went grumbling back down the hill.
Later, the boy sang out again, "Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is chasing the sheep!" To his naughty delight, he watched the villagers run up the hill to help him drive the wolf away.
When the villagers saw no wolf they sternly said, "Save your frightened song for when there is really something wrong! Don't cry 'wolf' when there is NO wolf!"
But the boy just grinned and watched them go grumbling down the hill once more.
Later, he saw a REAL wolf prowling about his flock. Alarmed, he leaped to his feet and sang out as loudly as he could, "Wolf! Wolf!"
But the villagers thought he was trying to fool them again, and so they didn't come.
At sunset, everyone wondered why the shepherd boy hadn't returned to the village with their sheep. They went up the hill to find the boy. They found him weeping.
"There really was a wolf here! The flock has scattered! I cried out, "Wolf!" Why didn't you come?"
An old man tried to comfort the boy as they walked back to the village.
"We'll help you look for the lost sheep in the morning," he said, putting his arm around the youth, "Nobody believes a liar...even when he is telling the truth!"

I've never been inside this "lasang", much less to its beach because the idea scares the wife, with thoughts of snakes and other wild animals within the reservation joining you in your picnic.
GearX, if the coastline is rocky, I imagine it's not good for swimming?
I imagine students of natural sciences would find a haven of knowledge in the place in the course of their studies. but vying time? :ohno:

the place, AFAIR, has been the most convenient restroom for travelers between Iligan and CdO. women use the DENR's office, while the men just spray at will. such practice should be forbidden, and a clean and bigger restroom be put up in the area, for decency's sake, and to protect the flora in that area.

I meant "vying time" is that they have done and completed their reseach work inside the park and are just waiting for time to pass before returning to school. There's a guard at the entrance so everyone who enters is logged in and/or presented clearance from the DENR. Also, the stretch along the highway is also a favorite standby for trucks and drivers where they park their vehicles and sleep over lunch...
With regards to swimming, it's not advisable because of the rocky shore - many underwater limestone caves beneath...you might hurt yourself. There are plenty of nice beaches nearby though...

Alingatong July 14th, 2008, 02:14 PM Collection of customs duties in NorMin hikes 64.99% in 1Q '08
by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob
Cagayan de Oro City (14 July) -- A total of Php901.11 million have been collected by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Northern Mindanao for the first quarter of 2008, higher by 64.99% compared to Php546.15 million during the same period last year.
Lawyer Abedin P. Macapasir, Officer-in-Charge of BOC District 10, said the increase in collection is attributed to the transfer of some locators from the Port of Cagayan de Oro to the Mindanao Container Terminal Port (MCTP) and the entry of new local and foreign callers to the latter.
Posting the highest increase, however, is the Port of Ozamiz, from Php136,996 to Php1.05 billion or 665.22% followed by the MCTP, from Php67.51 million to Php504.61 million or 647.48% and the Port of Iligan, from Php49.71 million to Php56.66 million or 13.97%.
On the other hand, a slump in collection was observed in the Port of CDO, from Php428.79 million to Php338.79 million or a negative 20.99%, due to the diversion of cargo traffic to the MCTP which is located inside the Phividec Industrial Estate of Misamis Oriental (PIE-MO), particularly in Tagoloan, Mis. Or.
Meanwhile, a customs collection efficiency (CCE) of 152.73% have been posted by BOC-10 during the quarter when its actual collection amounted to Php901.11 million compared to its target for the period of Php590 million.
The month of January posted the highest CCE of 171.04% when actual collection amounted to Php342.08 million compared to its target of Php200 million while that of February, a CCE of 154.32% for actually collecting Php277.78 million compared to its target of Php180 million.
Likewise, the month of March posted a CCE of 133.92% for actually collecting Php281.24 million compared to its target of Php210 million, Macapasir added. (PIA-10)
Alingatong July 14th, 2008, 02:25 PM Welcome to the Philippines
Team 71 have reached the Philippines. After an arduous flight that saw the Filipino volunteers separated from the British volunteers (after all, the VSO coffers are not bottomless) we arrived in Manila for a whirlwind ICO. The reunion was a particularly emotional affair. You know that played out Hollywoodesque scene were two estranged lovers sight one another across the airport departures lounge? Well just imagine that, but in our case it involved eighteen volunteers and two unusually quick-footed supervisors running towards each other in the customs and exports lobby.
Manoeuvring the absurdly busy and lawless roads of Manila, the British volunteers were exposed to their first experience of the Philippines. Where skyscrapers and colossal monuments to corporate agendas stand shoulder to knee with sprawling shantytowns. Cameras out everyone! We arrived to our ICO venue tired, sweaty and bedraggled, but confronted with a sumptuous lunch served by return volunteers from previous Philippine exchanges we all soon forgot the wrath of jetlag and enjoyed the first of many Filipino feasts.
The ICO was filled with insightful and studiously prepared presentations by the Country Management Team and also Team 71’s sponsor Globe Telecom on Filipino history and politics and corporate social responsibility respectively. Despite the ICO being a supposed time for unwinding and R&R there was no time for either. We worked and we played. As one volunteer put it, “work hard play hard – that’s how Team 71 rolls”.
http://gxpteam71.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/picture-5841.jpg
Before we knew it, it was time for our next flight. Just an hour and a half this time. Slowed by the usual trials and tribulations of lost boarding passes and flight details we made it on time onto the flight where some rather unflattering pictures were taken of the sleeping few. Bulbous clouds of the purest white contrasted the sapphire glint of the sea. We landed in Cagayan de Oro (an hour drive from Iligan – our host community) to be greeted by Miss. Cagayan de Oro and her entourage. Draped and adorned with beads we set off for Iligan to begin our INCO (in-community orientation). There were soon disconcerted and concerned looks amongst the team as to whether we would make it intact – our coach driver epitomised everything that a driver in any country should not do when in control of a motorised vehicle.
Our INCO was fruitful with every volunteer feeling more prepared than ever for the coming challenges and experiences that Iligan would throw at them. Apprehension and tension rife, we waited in earnest for the results of volunteer placements. As ever with GX there were happy and sad faces. However, now a month in, I am pleased to say everyone is happy and working hard in the name of success, progress and most importantly, peace and development.

Iligan has been a journey of experience to say the least. The Americanisation of Filipino culture, brought about by fifty years of colonisation has led to some interesting results. The one effect that has riled many British volunteers is the expression “Hey Joe”. A relic of the occupation of American GIs (Joes), this is the expression almost all Filipinos use to greet white tourists and as reality has taught us, also volunteers. That said the people are the most warm and friendly we could have asked for.
Well in the swing of GCD and CAD work, Team 71 have been ‘hard at it’ to maximise every opportunity that has come their way. No doubt more information and updates will follow on these subjects! Just a small note to say we are working hard to learn all that we can and to lend a hand in any project available. “Team 71 – a finger in every pie.”

Phase Two has started as a learning curve and it seems that it is one that will only grow steeper. With relish we stand up to those challenges in the name of personal development, VSO and volunteerism – to be counted. Not as sheep or part of the machinery of the system, but as individuals who share common goals and desires to see the world change for the better. We do not inherit the world from our parents; rather, we borrow the earth from our children. May we give it back in a better and fairer state that we found it.

Alingatong July 16th, 2008, 06:45 AM NFA accredits more rice selling outlets in Iligan
Iligan City (July 15) -- In addition to the 35 Tindahan Natin Outlets (TNOs) accredited by the National Food Authority (NFA) Iligan Office and the seven (7) Bigasan sa Parokya located within the barangay, there have been additional six (6) Bigasan sa Barangay outlets established in the city, said Edegary H. Roncal, NFA manager, Iligan City/Lanao del Norte Office.
Lanao del Norte has 154 TNOs-with an allocation of 30 bags per outlet per week, and nine (9) Bigasan sa Parokya with 40 bags allocation per outlet in a week.
We find it necessary to look into serving the consuming public as to the distribution of NFA rice, said Roncal. Prior to my assignment here in Iligan, the Association of Barangay Captains of Iligan (ABC), through Bernard Pacaña-ABC president, has passed a Resolution requesting NFA to accredit rice selling outlets within the barangay but it has to have authority from the local chief executive for a barangay to be accredited, Roncal said.
NFA has considered the lean month season, from July to September, thus, the Bigasan sa Barangay outlets has been approved.
The Barangay Chairman identifies his Barangay Hall to be the Bigasan sa Barangay outlet, with 40 bags allocation per outlet in a week.
While the Bigasan sa Parokya (BSP) outlet is being financed by the Office of Religious Affairs Malacañang, with the recommendation of the Social Action Office of the Diocesan in the area, there are also self-funded BSPs managed by a religious distributor.
A favorable reaction to accommodate the need of the consuming public, NFA has allowed individuals to buy 4-5 kilograms rice at the Bigasan ni Gloria sa Palengke. It took effect yesterday-July 14, Roncal said.
NFA Iligan has stock position of 180 thousand bags of rice stored int its warehouses in Iligan and in Lala, Lanao del Norte, where it can serve the under privileged in our society both in Iligan and in the province, Roncal admitted. (PIA Iligan)

Alingatong July 16th, 2008, 10:25 AM SENATE PRESIDENT MANNY VILLAR, NAMAHAYAG KALABOT SA MGA NAG-UNANG ISYU SA NASUD
07/16/08
(mta)

g0Rs July 16th, 2008, 01:26 PM LONE DISTRICTING SA ILIGAN, SUPORTADO NI SENADOR VILLAR
07/16/08
(mta)

g0Rs July 17th, 2008, 12:39 PM IKADUHANG HUGNA SA MGA VENDORS, IPAHILUNA NA SA FARMERS AREA SUNOD SEMANA
07/17/08
(boy decena)
