This question keeps popping up every now and then. Please get these data from either CPDO or CEO. When Gaisano secured their building permit, they submitted their construction plans, too. It's all there.:lock: Just tell them the information is being requested by SkyscraperCity, an International society of Iliganons in the Internet, and that this will help promote the city.:dj:

I have no idea. I hope tinuod. They should also relocate people living near sa dagat. Iconvert unta sad nila that area pareha sa baywalk sa roxas boulevard aron nindut.

yes i think we need a reclamation area since we are really running out of space para sa expansion sa city... mountainous man gud kaayu na area atua... just like the whole of mindanao.... i think they should grab this opportunity to increase the size of our port by at least x2.. although nindut na sya, paninduton pa jud!

plus I think we should make use of the unlimited coastline we have...kung buot hunahunaon, not all cities enjoy the privilege of being on the coast, thus since we have it we should make full use of it and make some kind of public park along the coast.. it should be big and beautiful... dapat naa pud tay area with baywalk or seaside park kaha with stores and shops along there.... dapat mas nindut pa sa roxas boulevard... unya yes dapat i relocate ang residential areas.... dapat sa city center nato dapat just business buildings and all that stuff, tapos sa outskirts na ang mga residential areas. Plus i think we need to restructure and organize residential areas para mas ma save nato ang space and at the same time looks good. (the city council can impose strict rules if they want to)

for example
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/ikra/res1.jpg
compared to
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/ikra/res2.jpg

i think we should start creating regulations and imposing strict guidelines as well as more organised land use and planning rather than doing things randomly.. it makes everything look cleaner, nicer, and organised (not cluttered).. and will help make this city beautiful. I think we should start sooner than later, before the city expands and more residential areas are made.. however these rules can only apply to new properties and not to old ones since obviously were economically still not that stable.

To all our Muslim Brothers

Eid-Mubarak

http://www.fdrag.org/newsletters/november03_files/image026.jpg

Eid al-Fitr follows the sighting of the new moon which signifies the end of the fast in the month of Ramadan. On the Islamic calendar, Eid al-Fitr (Feast of Breaking the Fast) is celebrated before Eid al-Ad'ha. Eid means recurring happiness or festivity. Eid is celebrated with enthusiasm every where in the world. Muslims all over the world buy new clothes for Eid and exchange gifts.

Traditionally they visit the mosques not only to attend to the Eid prayer but also to hand out gifts and donations to the unprivileged kids and the needy. Eid prayer is performed by the whole community in an outdoor prayer ground that is known as the musalla. In large cities, the Eid prayer is also performed in congregations in mosques. Greetings of "Eid-Mubarak" or "a blessed Eid" are exchanged. A very important aspect of Eid is the charity which all the Muslims are expected to give to the needy.

Few festivals in the Muslim world are anticipated with greater delight than Eid el-Fitr. It is this festival that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the annual assertion of ‘the spirit over the flesh'.

iligan bukidnon road, can anyone plot the road in google maps? or anything?

convention centre.. isnt this the sports complex, or is this another one?? can you expand???

security for higa onon... dapat lang!

c3 road. Theres is already a plan daw.Maybe in the coming weeks/months we'll post it here.

iligan-baloi airport i think is already done. Few months ago nagtest flight na ang isang airline company. Kelangan nalang cguro commercial flights.

iligan-bukidnon road. Wala pa ako info regarding this.

Macapagal-Macaraeg Convention Center. The lot is donated by PGMA. 2 hectares pero gusto ng city government gawing 4 hectares.this is @ timoga.

regarding the sports arena...pag tapos na daw lahat ng water projects ng city.

bridges unahan sa terminal? Mandulog? there are already two existing bridges there.

Diwali is celebrated with jubilation and enthusiasm. It is one of the biggest festival of Hindus and is celebrated for five continuous days. Third day is the main day of Diwali and is celebrated as the 'Festival of Lights'. To mark this day people light diyas and candles all around their house. During the evening Lakshmi Puja is performed to seek divine blessings of Goddess of Wealth. People also exchange Diwali Gifts with all their dear ones and burst fire crackers in the night to express their happiness.

To our Hindu Brothers, Happy Diwali Festival!!!

MINDANAO'S BEST BUSINESS CHAMBER

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews) — The business chamber in this city was named as the best in Mindanao during the recent Philippine Business Conference held in Metro Manila last week.
The award was given by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said Tony Veneracion, president of the General Santos City Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Veneracion said criteria include services extended to the members, community involvement, and networking with government agencies.

Aside from GenSan, the other finalists for Mindanao were the cities of Davao, Iligan and Butuan, he said.

The award came amidst the controversy caused by the Davao chamber’s bolting out of the PCCI. Romeo Serra, chairman of the Mindanao Business Council, resigned as PCCI vice president for Mindanao.

He said his chamber’s disaffiliation from the national chamber “will have a snowballing effect” as he claimed that 16 other chambers in Mindanao will follow suit.

Veneracion, however, clarified that the GenSan group would not follow the Davao chamber. “We have no plans to bolt PCCI. There’s no discussion among the members to that effect,” he said.

Among the members of the GenSan chamber are six tuna processors and other companies engaged in the fishing industry, which provide direct and indirect employment to at least 100,000 people.

In the last few years, GenSan was also recognized for the dynamism of its business sector, named as among the most competitive cities by the Asian Institute of Management. MindaNews

g0Rs
October 27th, 2006, 11:56 AM
Unfortunately, these replicas can no longer be seen. It was when the city joined the Lady's Choice Christmas Village Competition nationwide last year. Iligan, which had three entries, won a special citation. The Department of Education's entry, which featured traditional symbols of the season like the Christmas tree, used the most number of bottles-2,672-beating the local government's replica of city hall by just a few jars.

MARAWI CITY -- United States Ambassador Kristie Kenney Friday met beneficiaries of the United States Agency for International Development (Usaid) and its different projects on livelihood.

The US ambassador turned over at least 50 units of sewing machines for the Mindanao State University (MSU) Women's Center and said they would give assistance to the university's computer center and pledged to help the university's programs on environment, particularly concerning the watershed and Lake Lanao.

Earlier, it was reported by environmentalists that Lake Lanao is contaminated with bacteria as a result of degradation and the MSU recently formed a task force to study and prevent the contamination of the lake, according to MSU president Ricardo de Leon.

Mayor Omar Solitario Ali hosted a lunch for Kenney and her entourage before she was brought by chopper to nearby Iligan City to attend the 50th anniversary of the 1st Valley Bank, which is a beneficiary of the USAid micro finance program for small entrepreneurs.

The microfinance program of 1st Valley Bank has been very successful that its profitability registered a growth of at least 800 percent, according to Nelson Te, executive vice president of the bank.

Kenney received the recognition given by 1st Valley Bank to the USAid for its micro finance program, which has contributed immensely to the bank's growth.

Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz welcomed Kenney and reported he recently attended the US-sponsored Transparency and Accountability in Governance (TAG) program in the US and expressed his optimism that through USAid, the US government will assist in the completion of the still unfinished Iligan-Bukidnon road and the now on-going Solid Waste Management Program Materials Recovery Facility.

These replicas can no longer be seen.

Please don't post pictures from bygone days. We want updates, not downdates :(
Hasta kanag pic sa city hall nga napuno sa suga, sa 2005 pa pod na? Now, i'm really confused.

^^Well, we have to do this sometimes. Must have a glimpse of the past in order for us to know of what we have achieved at present and what must be done in the future. This is part of rediscovering Iligan. We "must" make a "lingon" from our pinanggalingan in order for us to "makarating" sa paroroonan.

Sana, mas masaya at mas bongga yong celebration natin sa darating na pasko as compared to last year's.

No choice sila kay sementeryo man gud ang likod ug wa na sad vacant lot sa tapad para himoong carpark. If they will fully occupy the whole lot, manakit gyud atong bagtak ug tuyok-tuyok sa mall kay lapad-lapad man gyud ang area.

yes.. i think we should have multiple car parks all round the city since it saves us space and it is more safer for cars.... esp if they add cctv equipment for surveillance... but if you look at it, the overpass makes it somewhat feel like the gaisano of cdo... lol

btw, theres an undergoing construction here sa amua pud, its also a mall, and its 5 stories high as well. from the pictures its as big as the one thats being built here, plus coincidentally, there is a multi level car park beside it as well, very similar to that one sa rendering sa gaisano. And judging from the work, they started this project last march i think, and project it to be finished in early 2007(january perhaps) and its good looking too, maybe slightly better looking.

Indie films conquer Mindanao

By Christine Godinez-Ortega
Inquirer
Last updated 00:25am (Mla time) 10/30/2006

Published on page E2 of the October 30, 2006 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer

IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO dream of a vital Philippine cinema that, ideally, will not know painful compromises for commercial gain.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Outreach Program might not be able to compete with what complex system of distribution commercial film outfits practice, but the CCP and its affiliate sponsors of indies can’t go wrong in knocking on the doors of academe.

Impressionable minds with the guidance of their professors might as well be the potent force to change the taste of a future movie-going public.

Mindanao students recently showed a high level of awareness of independent films, which included Byron Bryant’s “Baryoke,” Alfred Aloysius Adlawan’s “Room Boy,” Emmanuel de la Cruz’s “Sarong Banggi,” Clodualdo del Mundo Jr.’s “Pepot Artista” (represented by producer Mike Lim), the short film “Babae” by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo and the runaway favorite, Michiko Yamamoto’s “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros,” directed by Auraeus Solito.

Students of Mindanao State University System and other Iligan schools were picky with the lineup of indie films screened 8 a.m.-9 p.m. in separate venues on the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology campus Sept. 18-19.

Aside from the well-applauded “Sarong Banggi,” students mobbed “Pagdadalaga,” the country’s entry to this year’s Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film. Hundreds queued in the rain before “Pagdadalaga’s” screening at the gymnasium.

Beyond the obvious theme of love and care for another, the movie’s defamiliarization of life’s routines, such as Maximo doing household chores, was enough to put one on edge while watching.

What is more familiar than measuring rice for cooking? The difference is Maximo’s sudden realization that his habitual pouring of four milk tins of rice into the pot must stop at three to represent the surviving members of a family whose ordinary fare had always been crime.

The dreaded screams, heavy dialogue and meaningless silences in most commercial films were happily absent here.

Complex theme

Bryant’s lengthy “Baryoke” dealt with a complex theme anchored on a videoke machine. Painted a hot pink with the phallic symbol of a microphone in the middle, the contraption changed many lives in a barrio and also awakened in its women some secret aspirations.

Men will be men, and I wondered all along how a male writer and director like Bryant would treat his female characters. Sure enough, Bryant is the next director to watch with his poetic renderings of local color and his treatment of self-righteous women and of long-suffering wives within the traditional Tagalog culture of machismo and speakeasy society.

The best portrayal of all, of course, is that of the barrio whore whose feistiness and instinctive good sense allowed her to survive a hostile environment. Hopefully, her pastor-lover who loved sex over his ministry would help her work for her redemption.

If the irony-filled “Baryoke” tackled personal and environmental issues, Adlawan’s focused portrayal of a good man and a woman of strength in “Room Boy” was remarkable.

A cigarette-puffing actor in a movie has always been a powerful image, disregarding, alas, health concerns. Yet in “Room Boy,” its use as metaphor for make-believe was refreshing.

Melba’s puffing on unlighted cigarettes exemplified a modern preoccupation of fiction and reality, contrasting with Luis’ literal interpretation of keeping to his word, having been a one-time honored Boy Scout until faced with his own epiphany.

Among the indies, the quest story and the use of metaphor and irony came on strong. For instance, Bernardo’s “Babae” contrasts the image of a kargador with an impaled doll over train tracks and nude Barbies on the sleeping mat—Bernardo’s statements of lives lived without the gloss.

Iligan’s film festival, in the end, was a fun-filled experience, especially for my own hardworking student-team composed of MSU-IIT College of Arts and Social Sciences student leaders, Joyce Adlawan, Jezreel Faith Montes, Dennis Rey Abas, Alyn Tolero, Ma. Darmiell del Castillo, Diana Sorongon and Faizal Catong.

Among other things, we witnessed the filmmakers’ humility in conducting a room-to-room campaign for Mindanao students to support indies, and, with their easy banter, sending the message that, with a great audience, dreams work.

He told me also that the property is approximately 1.5 ha. and that the total floor area of the mall is around 45,000 to 50,000 sq.meter only. Big enough for a city with 300,000 population. Group meets gov't, Moro rebels on peace talks issue
By Lino Dela Cruz
Iligan Correspondent

LANAO DEL NORTE -- The Malaysian-led International Monitoring Team (IMT) met Monday with the government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) peace panels to defuse tension in Central and Southern Mindanao where fighting erupted in the past three days that could derail the now stalled peace talks.

The move came after fighting between government and MILF forces broke out in Sharief Aguak, Maguindanao recently.

However, no details about the meeting had been released to the media in this city.

The MILF leadership, in a statement posted at the luwaran.com, said bigger fighting between government and MILF forces could erupt in Maguindanao after the latest encounter (October 27) in Sharief Aguak, Maguindanao when Civilian Volunteer Oranization (CVO) members allegedly assaulted MILF positions in the area. No one was reported killed or wounded in the encounter.

Last October 26, the MILF accused the military of using helicopter gunships in strafing MILF positions in Mt. Gurain, Piagapo, Lanao del Norte, which led to a retaliatory firing by MILF fighters. No one was reported hurt or killed in the incident.

Mt. Gurain is an MILF sanctuary where the forces of MILF commander Abdulrahman Macapaar alias commander Bravo is believed holding fort.

Some residents in the coastal towns of this province, particularly Maigo, Kauswagan, Bacolod and Linamon have reportedly evacuated because of fear of retaliation by the Moro rebels and persistent threats that there will be attacks, according to town officials.

Local leaders in this province and nearby Iligan Xity had raised the alert levels since last week.

Maigo town mayor Rafael Rizalda said he is personally a subject of threat and the town had been a target of supposed attacks but added that the police, the military and residents are vigilant.

In nearby Iligan City, Mayor Lawrence Cruz recently met with top officers of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Marines to discuss security measures.

That's why am not yet sure if it's really the main reason of limiting to 4 storeys. Some structural engineers said that the piles were driven deep enough into the ground to give a stable foundation for a 7-level structure.

Iligan defeats Lanao Royals in MVBA

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte -- Visiting Iligan Archangels dealt host Lanao Royals a crushing 73-66 defeat Sunday at the Mindanao Civic Center at the ML Kwarta Padala Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Second Conference.

The Archangels of Mayor Lawrence L. Cruz and Coach Ed Arugay pounced on the unsuspecting Royals of Governor Imelda Q. Dimaporo and Coach Angelito Quidlat behind the heroics of guard Michael Bangloy who submitted 10 of his 12 points in the final canto.

Ironically, Bangloy was scoreless in his team's first four games in the community-based league powered by ML Kwarta Padala, Nature's Spring Drinking Water, Cokaliong Shipping Lines, Reva Sandals Gameface.Ph and Nike Basketball.

From a 52-52 deadlock, Bangloy powered a key 14-6 run that took the fight out of the Royals entering the final two minutes, 66-58. The Royals answered with a free throw from Baltazar Jueves followed by a triple from his brother Arlo Jueves, 62-66. Dino Cabili then converted four consecutive free throws to ensure the Archangels' second win in four games, 70-62, and 1:24 to play. The Royals returned to the Mindanao Division cellar with one win in five outings.

Marvin Tundag returned from a two-game absence due to injury to lead the Archangels with 31 points off seven triples. Cabili followed with 17. Arlo Jueves paced the Royals with 14 markers followed by Robert Valconcha with 12 in the tight game that saw seven deadlocks and four lead changes.

Visayas Division leader M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala of sports patron Michel Lhuillier and Coach Raul Alcoseba was still locked in combat with the Talisay Aquastars of Coach Eddie Ybanez at press time last night at the New Cebu City Coliseum, the league's final game before going on a break for All Saints' Day.

Games resume on November 4 with the Toyota-Iloilo Turbos of Robert Uy and Coach Jerry Jaranilla playing their first game when they visit the Aquastars.

How they scored

Iligan 73 -- Tundag 31, Cabili 17, Bangloy 12, France 6, Ayodelle 5, Sereno 2, Espinosa 0, Gloria 0.

Lanao 66 -- A. Jueves 14, Valconcha 12, Senining 11 Mella 8, B. Jueves 8, Clavite 6, Abang 5, Rosal 2, Maghamil 0.

Period scores: 15-12, 33-35, 50-48, 73-66.

Debuting Iligan faces Cotabato 5

ILIGAN CITY - Firefly Electronics-baked Iligan and expansion team North Cotabato open their respective campaigns in the National Basketball Conference Saturday when they clash at the MSU-IIT gym here.

The Crusaders of Mayor Lawrence Cruz are expected to have their hands full against the Braves of Governor Manny Piñol of North Cotabato in the 6 p.m. contest.

The Crusaders will parade a star-studded lineup led by last year’s NBC Most Valuable Player Chris Nicdao, former UST Tiger Derrick Hubalde and ex-UE Warrior Ollan Omiping in the tourney sponsored by Panasonic, Sulpicio Lines, Spring Cooking Oil, Regent Foods, Nature’s Spring, Firefly Electronics, Molten and Prime Channel.

New Iligan coach Jun Longalong has also tapped ex-Laguna Spring forward Marlon Kalaw, Melvin Taguines, Sammy Ayodelle, Adam Baguio, Dave Sagad, Jeyzel Canoy, Kim Olivaros, Kim Gandarosa, Jeff Tajonera, Ronnie Matias, Jerson Espinosa, Ferdinand Go, Mhero Parilla and Renante Bumagang.

Longalong, who disclosed that they decided to practice against Mindanao squads rather than join the preseason series, are not taking the Braves lightly.

"They won the Pagadian leg of the preseason series. Certainly, they’re no pushovers," said Longalong.

The Braves will lean on Michael Etrata, Buboy Panigue, Marvin Martinez, Ruel del Norte, Romeo Clar, Junel Jawod, Rex Ligue, Gary Garcia, Recaredo Reyes, Jerold Cabanog, Anselmo Dagatan, Frederick Sansaet and Aljerico Aure.

North Cotabato coach Niel "James" Bemeil is wary of Ilagan’s homecrowd.

"We’ve heard that Ilagan’s crowd is the Crusaders’ sixth man," he said.

^^

Mura ug pang Lord of the Rings..

If not for the bad media publicity, we can have foreign films shot here in the Philippines.. Mike Gleissner of BigFoot Entertainment said that he likes to shoot movies here in the Philippines because it's cheaper here aside from the fact that the people speak english.

Take for example hollywood films. Most of them are shot in various locations in Thailand. But the thing is it's very expensive to shoot there because they have to hire interpreters since the locals do not speak english!

This is very much true when I went to Bangkok. The locals really could not help me in giving directions to a particular attraction because while I was speaking in english to them, they were at the same time replying in their language (some of them can actually understand a little english but cannot speak it).

Timoga Spring is a spring located along the National Highway, Timoga, Barangay Buru-un around 9 kilometers away from the city proper. It is well-known for icy-cold and crystal-clear springs flow freely to the pools of different sizes. There are around five spring resorts along the highway which is easily accessible by land to all locals and tourists.

I agree totally... imho, putting the MCC in tubod was a waste of money to be honest... I mean, its such a remote area... the closest city is Osamiz which you have to take a barge to get there. If they however create a bridge somewhere in tubod, then yes I think the MCC stadium would have been put into better use.

Is the iligan sports complex going to be similar to the MCC?? with an oval and stadium and gym etc???

*haaaaaaaaay... sayanga jud sa MCC oi!* Ang governor man gud tingali atung panahuna ang nagsugo ato... tae kayu

^^ Limunsudan Falls is located in Barangay Rogongon, about 54km from Iligan City proper. It's the second highest waterfall in the country. Limunsudan Falls, a two-tiered fall, has a combined height of 870 feet. Its lower cascade alone measures 400 feet, higher than the entire height of Maria Cristiana Falls.

Hi ikra. actually there's the Proposed Panguil Bay Bridge that will connect the prov. of tubod to ozamis city. in fact, it was mentioned in the State of the Nation Address of PGMA this year together with the proposed Laguindingan International Airport. Just dont know when the project will start.

Panguil Bay Bridge
by Morpheus Agot

A utopia infrastructure symbolizing the visionary leadership of the present administration, the Panguil Bay Bridge has been on the priority list of projects of Governor Loreto Leo Ocampos.

Borne out of an overload of concretizing accomplishments of projects, livelihood programs, and environmental concerns, this dream is a giant leap to unite the fragmented Mindanao and soon catapult this part of the island to progress in the subsequent increase of commerce once this spider web of steel is completed.

Governor Ocampos has already submitted the detailed engineering plan assigning every bolt and steel frame of the proposed 1.3 km bridge. Supposedly, its feasibility study costs P50M, but the governor himself, an engineer, intervened and by his resourcefulness and creativity collated a cheaper perspective costing only less than a million pesos

He has presented the plan to the pledging sessions in numerous international gatherings of bankers, financers, and would be stake holders.

“Panguil Bay Bridge na naman?” snapped President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when Governor Ocampos was seated beside her in a plane on the way to Japan for a state visit to early last year. The President seems vexed by the persistence of our beloved governor to get the Panguil Bay Bridge Project’s ‘Presidential Approval.’

The Governor is quick to admit that the roadblocks of this four to seven billion-peso project are lack of counterpart funds on the side of the Philippine Government and the protectionist attitude of semi-government financial institutions which have multi-million exposures to the dominant barge operator in the Ozamiz City to Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte route.

“But as long as I am governor of Misamis Occidental, my relentless effort will continue for its eventual realization. At least, for the moment, I have transferred this longing in our hearts to walk across Panguil Bay, to the drawing boards of world-class engineering consultants and contractors,” Governor Ocampos declared.

“For nothing has ever reached the skies until someone dreamed about it, thought about it and decided that it must,” the Governor added.
