Nice... as in very nice. I just love the way nature flavor up things. I wish we could preserve or even improve this natural environmental setting of our city.
BTW, we can start a cleaning-up campaign of our beaches. In talaga ako dyan. Need just somebody to start the engines rolling :grouphug:. Di kasi ako yung tipong makakastart ng campaign like this. Need more guts. Mga SSC guys.... go na!

g0Rs October 20th, 2008, 12:49 PM ICPO calls on motor vehicle owners to be vigilant
ICC Iligan City (20 October) -- P/Sr. Supt. Virgilio Ranes, Director of the Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) has called on everybody, particularly, motor vehicle owners to be very responsible enough and vigilant in securing and protecting their vehicles.
Ranes made the call in connection with some reported cases of carnapping that hampers the security of the peace loving populace in the city.
"These incidents, if ever, should be reported to ICPO immediately, before reporting to the media so that proper coordination among police operatives can be done to go after the suspects," he said.
In one way or another, the civilian populace, especially the vehicle owners can help the law enforcers to protect and serve the community with outmost care and attain the desirable peace and order in the city.
On the other hand, car owners must be very vigilant because the security of these vehicles solely rest on the capability of the police force, Ranes said.
Meanwhile, P/Insp. Melvin Ian Burlat, Police Community Relations (PCR) Officer of ICPO in today's press briefing at the Information Command Center, Philippine Information Agency, this city, said that ICPO is now preparing for the security plan during the observance of the Nov 1 & 2 activities in all six (6) cemeteries in the city.
He said barangay officials have been instructed to augment personnel in securing the place with their "tanods" or civil volunteer organization (CVO) members assigned in the area. (OSM – Radyo ng Bayan)

g0Rs October 20th, 2008, 12:53 PM Iliganons celebrate victory as Supreme Court junks MOA-AD
Monday, 20 October 2008
ILIGAN CITY - Thousands of Iliganons and residents of the first congressional district of Lanao del Norte celebrate victory as the Supreme Court declared the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain unconstitutional.
Led by City Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz, the City Council and Congressman Vicente Belmonte Jr., Iliganons thronged the Saint Michael's Cathedral for a thanksgiving mass which was also attended by former Senate President Franklin Drilon and former Congressman Acosta of Bukidnon.
Mayor Cruz expressed gratitude to Iliganons who stood up and joined the legal battle and voiced-out their sentiments.
It can be recalled that eight (8) barangays comprising 82% of the total land area of Iligan City were included in the BJE.
The SC voted 8-7 in favor of scrapping the MOA-AD.
In a press statement, former Senator Drilon lauded the collective efforts of Iligan City, Zamboanga City and North Cotabato province for standing up for truth in the legal battle in the Supreme Court last August.
Drilon told Inquirer " the Filipino people owes a deep gratitude to the constituents of the two cities of Iligan, Zamboanga and North Cotabato for defending its territorial rights over the proposed Bangsamoro Juridical Entity."
"The MOA-AD was a great deception to the people of Mindanao since the constituents were not properly consulted,” Drilon said.
Drilon also said, he is against the option of declaring war against MILF. However, he favored the military operations against lawless MILF who were responsible in staging the atrocities in Lanao areas.
Drilon who chairs the Liberal Party joined the legal battle with Iligan City, Zamboanga City and North Cotabato in the Supreme Court.
Drilon warned the Filipino people that the Supreme Court Chief Justice will end his term on December 15 and the national leadership will chose one of the 16 nominees on December 16.
Drilon expressed high hopes that the next SC Chief Justice will be competent enough and impartial in judgment in terms of Decision making.
Drilon also favored the earlier statement of Congressman Abdullah Dimaporo ( of Lanao second congressional district) towards creating a new Peace Panel whose representatives should come from Mindanao.
Christian Juridical Entity
For Congressman Belmonte and City Councilor Moises Dalisay Jr., a Christian Juridical Entity could possibly be created if the BJE under the MOA-AD succeeded in court.
Security measures
103rd Brigade Commander Col. Antonio Benito De Leon assured residents of safety and security with the presence of sufficient military troops and presence of police personnel including the Special Action Force. However, the residents are being encouraged to be vigilant from time to time.
Unconfirmed reports disclosed that the lawless MILF will sow terror in Iligan City and other parts of Lanao del Norte through bombing and liquidation of political personalities.
Col. De Leon said, the MILF has no capability of attack because of the presence of military troops deployed in the strategic areas.(By : Richel V. Umel)

(mta)

Alingatong October 23rd, 2008, 12:28 PM BPO in the Philippines: An Overview of Business Process Outsourcing in the Philippines
Posted on October 21st, 2008
According to Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) executive director Maria Jamea Garcia, Philippines is well positioned to corner a 10 % share of the global outsourcing and offshoring market by 2010, with a likely revenues of $13 billion adding direct employment of almost 1 million workers.
Mindanao continues to develop business environment that can attract information technology (IT) firms. Cities in Mindanao particularly General Santos- the trading and agro-industrial center- is leading into this kind of venture. It is likely the most highly competitive city and also for the reason that its entrepreneurs continually think of the global market than any other cities in the said region.
Iligan and Zamboanga also have a potential to build business process outsourcing offices and offshoring sites that can promote BPO investment in the region.
“Developing these additional cities would help the Philippines achieve a more balanced distribution of growth [in the BPO sector]. This will ease some of the pressures on costs and help seed development in other parts of the country,” Jamea said.
Fiber optic network is being made to connect General Santos City, South Cotabato and Sarangani provinces. It is called “Ring of Fiber,” it is established in preparation for the planned WiMax system, a wireless digital communication system whose braod coverage can be expanded to its neighborhood districts, explained Bing Garcia COO of Marbel Telephone System Inc. Tacurong City and 11 municipalities in Sultan Kudarat province will also be connected to the fiber optic network, under the Sultan Kudarat Telephone System, Inc.
Mabuhay IT Park, a 2.8-hectare founded by Jan Ced, is a one-stop fully secured facility that enables carrying voice, video and data services with backup power supply.
“BPO accounting is a productive business,” said Paraluman. “Foreign companies have said they prefer their accounts to be handled by Filipinos since we have a reputation for trustworthiness.”
“We have clients in Manila who order from us outdoor tarpaulins,” said Ronald Velasquez. “Even with the added freight and shipping, we’re still cheaper than firms in Cebu and Manila. And there’s a company in Europe who wants to outsource their website design to us,” he added.
Labor and operations in General Santos were much cheaper, it is approximately 25-50% lower than in Manila and Cebu.
“Why not then relocate your business closer to your manpower source?”
The city alone produces 4,000 new college graduates a year, most of them from Mindanao State University and Notre Dame of Dadiangas University. Other cities like Iligan produces 2,000 graduated yearly, altogether these areas turn out 15,000 graduates annually.
Mindanao especially its key cities have been identified as a promising hubs for providers of a wide range of IT services, said Patricia Abejo, director for cyberservices of the government’s Commission on ICT.
Joji Ilagan-Bian discovered potential of the ARMM (Autonomous Rtegion in Muslim Mindanao as a call center site and set up a training center to produce highly trained agents.

Alingatong October 23rd, 2008, 03:28 PM Industrial Motor Control Room of IACET, MSU-IIT
The Industrial Motor Control Room of the Industrial Automation and Controls Engineering Technology, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology is the center of the education for Motors Circuits, Building Wiring, and Sequence Control and other related subjects for students. Trainings are conducted here for such fields either in lecture and/or practical application. Conventional hard-wired industrial motor control circuits are taken up like the simple start-stop circuit, dynamic braking circuit, forward-reverse control and extending up to controls like elevator systems with safety interlocking and to other fully systemized motor control operations. This is done by using magnetic contactors, relays, timers and other electromechanical devices.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m273/d4rkhowl/10212008.jpg
In the advancement of the lessons, the student/practicioner will apply the said circuits learned using the conventional electromechanical circuits to using PLC as the processing unit for control. More advanced industrial circuits will be taken up using advance PLC programming. This will be done in actual practice and not just in lecture method.

The training offered here is of world-class quality for instructors and professors are trained in various known institutions worldwide.
Alingatong October 23rd, 2008, 03:49 PM NEDA Board oks road, climate change and fiscal governance projects
10/23/2008 | 12:18 PM
MANILA, Philippines - The National Economic and Development Authority Board, which is chaired by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, has approved projects to address climate change in the Philippines and reform governance in public expenditure.
The inter-agency body also gave the green light to the amendment in the scope and cost increase of a road project in Iligan.
In a statement, the NEDA board said it approved the Credit Line for Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection in the Philippines (CLEECP), a project of state-owned Land Bank of the Philippines.
The CLEECP will have a total cost of about P1.72 billion. The project will cover the entire country and will support initiatives, programs and projects in the area of energy efficiency and climate protection. Specifically, it aims to lower annual carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to 24 million tons by using alternative sources of energy.
A least half of the total project cost will be made available for Visayas and Mindanao. The loan proceeds from the German government-owned development bank KfW amounts to about P1.38 million, while the LBP will be contributing P344.3 million. The credit line will be implemented from 2009 to 2012.
Ralph G. Recto, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary and NEDA Director General, said the CLEECP will be available to private sector companies and entities which are at least 70 percent Filipino-owned as well as to local government units, national government agencies and government-owned and controlled corporations.
“This credit line can be availed even by small to medium companies because it has no limitation in terms of asset size," he added. Recto also serves as the NEDA Board vice-chairman.
Among the potential clients listed in the Land Bank pipeline are the Cotabato Sugar Central Corp., Davao Sugar Central Corp., Philcan Industrial Corp., the Provincial Government of Ifugao, and the Municipal Government of Dinapigue, Isabela.
“The Government of Ifugao and the municipality of Dinapigue in Isabela, for instance, produce power from renewable energy sources. The sugar factories, on the other hand, uses bagasse, the biomass remaining after sugarcane stalks are crushed to extract their juice as an alternative fuel source for sugar mills. This kind of fuel minimizes the emission of greenhouse gases and reduces consumption of power. These are the reasons why they are very much eligible to avail the credit line," Recto said.
He added that the main impact of the project would be in terms of energy savings, energy efficiency and reduction in the greenhouse gas emissions.
Meanwhile, the NEDA Board also approved the Development Policy Support Program, Subprogram 2 program in which the Asian Development Bank will provide a loan amounting to $250 million. The program, which is second of a cluster of three subprograms, focuses more on supporting fiscal policy sustainability and strengthening governance in public expenditure management and procurement.
The ADB project is a continuation of the first subprogram which focused on the core areas of fiscal consolidation and was signed and disbursed in February 2007. The Monetary Board approved the program last October 9.
Meanwhile, the change in scope and cost increase of the Metro Iligan Regional Infrastructure Development Project also got the nod of the NEDA Board.
The road segment 2 or the 9.198-kilometer Baloi-Pantao-Ragat Road of the project has been realigned to the 12.8-kilometer Baloi-Matungao-Linamon Road.

I haven't seen the actual fire. Just heard it over the radio coz i'm still at work during that time. Two people were confirmed dead because of that fire, a 3 year old boy and her mother. The two were hugging together when their charred bodies were recovered. Such a tragedy. I feel very sad towards the incident especially to that little boy who was one of the victim. He wasn't able to enjoy life and see Iligan prosper.:ohno:

I passed by that area yesterday and I can still see the battery shop open and business as usual but if my memory is right, the second floor of the said shop was quite affected.
As what they say, the house of Mr. Camilo Pal-ing somewhat saves further damage because it's walls and ceilings are made of hardiflex wrapped with galvanized plain sheets and acts as a barrier and if not for it, the fire would eventually be out of control because houses in that area are very close to each (houses are accesible only by foot).
Hope a tragedy like this would never happen again.

timoga lover....2 things: first, making sinister comparisons is not my cup of tea...2nd : I am not one of those trolls hiding under the guises of bigotry.....so you dont have to worry
I made the same kind of Google earth posts at SSC of all of mindanao cities 2 years ago, long before you came to SSC .....featuring them...NOT for mere purpose of hideous sinister comparisons
the distance covered by the map as seen from above, in this case a satellite foto for example is what you call a scale.

Alingatong October 27th, 2008, 03:25 PM PNP Iligan readies 'OPLAN Kaluluwa'
ICC-Iligan City (27 October) -- The Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) has tightened its security measures to implement "Oplan Kaluluwa" in the city.
The plan was formulated in relevance to the country's celebration of All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day on November 1 and 2, respectively, said P/Sr. Supt. Virgilio T. Ranes, ICPO Director thru SPO4 Teodoro Llanes during a press briefing at the Information Command Center, Philippine Information Agency, this city.
"We will be implementing 'Oplan Kaluluwa' by deploying policemen and other force multipliers to strategic places like cemetery, business establishments, seaports and bus/jeepney terminals," Ranes said.
Elements from the Special Action Force, Philippine National Police (SAF-PNP) has augmented our security forces to prevent and thwart the evil forces and atrocities of rouge MILF, he also said.
Meanwhile, the ICPO, earlier this month, has conducted a series of meetings to mobilize the Task Force San Miguel composed of elements from PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), non-government organizations, radio amateur groups and shooters club.
Initiated by the local government of Iligan, said TF plans and implements security measures in all activities and big events of the city.
ON the other hand, ICPO will field the police sniffing dogs or canine (K9) units, in coordination with the Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) teams, to constantly monitor thickly populated areas like churches, malls, markets, and business establishments.
The city's organized civilian volunteer organizations (CVO) with about 2,000 members will be utilized to assist ICPO in securing areas especially at the urban site.
"We will be implementing the liquor ban and will not allow individuals/groups to bring big sound systems inside the cemeteries that will disturb the solemnity of the observance of these holy days," Ranes added. (LVG/PIA Iligan)

Relax. You sound too tense and that might not be good for your heart.
Well, I did not say you're into comparing cities in a "sinister" way. But I don't exactly understand your use of the adjective, sinister, in your statement. Did you mean that a comparison" is "sinister"? Or, you're implying that people who compare cities are trolls? Please expound as your message crossed to me with full of ambiguous meaning.

Oh, yeah, I know what a scale is.
comparing a built up area does not answer your game as what you previously called it...patas-anay ug ihi ...
Well, you did not provide criteria, did you?
for example Bangkok has a bigger built up area than Singapore...Does this entirely mean bangkok is way far too better than singapore?
Opps, you've gone from what we've previously agreed to use an objective measures to subjective measures now.
Better? What exactly do you mean by that? Better in what?
There are several ways to measure “better”. The word better is subjective in itself. But should you have standard metrics to rate cities and rank them according to which one is "better"?
If you'd ask me, a more desirable city (which could be what is better for you) should have the following: (in no particular order)
1. public market -- where trading is done between local producers and consumers
2. roads - length of cemented roads and in ratio to the city area.
3. seaports
4. airports
5. hospitals – number of rooms and in ratio to the population of the city
6. schools – levels of education provided, type of schools and quality of the schools
7. protection system (police, fire, etc.) – number of police, military and fire trucks in ratio to the population
8. industries/factories - that generate products. Number of employees and quality of personnel and staff in ratio to the population
9. parks – area of parks in ratio to the city area
10. commercial establishments – number of business establishements and range of services offered
11. hotels – number of rooms in ratio to the city size and population
Now, if you're so confident that Butuan would outrank Iligan --in general-- using the metrics enumerated above, go ahead and post them away. You need to substantiate your claim that Butuan is better than Iligan however. Because as far as I'm concern, Iligan would win against Butuan in 9 of the 11 areas I've mentioned above. Iligan would lose to Butuan at areas on "airport" and "protection system". But Iligan would trounce Butuan for all the rest.
Now, as for your Singapore vs Bangkok examples, I personally like Singapore. Let me tell you why I personally prefer Singapore.
1. The people speak English so it’s easier to communicate with the locals.
2. It is the center of commerce and trade in Southeast asia.
3. Its banking and finance industries are bullish and well structured.
4. It is host to some of the best schools in Asia (NUS, Nanyang, SMU to name a few)
5. It has many parks and well maintained public spaces
6. It is safer
7. It offers jobs with better pay, and
8. Less traffic
Having mentioned these, however, wouldn't necessarily mean that Singapore is more developed than Bangkok. I cannot rate them accurately myself based on that. But basing on objective facts, Singapore is the “better” city between the two.
Now, let me tell you what Iligan has that Butuan hasn’t. Butuan doesn’t have as many luxurious hotels that Iligan has. It does not compare well with Iligan in terms of employment slots and the quality of jobs available for the local residents. While Iligan employs engineers and professionals of various fields as there are more industries here, Butuan employs farmers, a low paying, dismal job that does not require intellectual capital.
Butuan does not have a university; Iligan has MSU-IIT, one of the top of the top schools in the entire country. Iligan has a college of Medicine, and a very good one too. Butuan does not have an exclusive, expensive, elite high school like LA SALLE ACADEMY. It does not have a mall as huge as Iligan's Gaisano Mall. I’m sorry; the new Gaisano Mall is not just huge—it’s humongous.
Butuan hospitals do not compare with those in Iligan too. Even the number of hospital rooms in Butuan does not match Iligan hospitals’. And, they say that when you want to have a quick glimpse of how progressive one’s city is in terms of commerce, count the banks it has. Well, Iligan has more banks than Butuan has. And on top of this, Iligan has 23 waterfalls, timoga, NPC Park that other city can only dream to have. And our electricity is locally supplied too.
Again, other than security issues and a presence of an airport, Iligan would trounce Butuan, big time. It's not even close.
Now, your turn.
deevex75 October 27th, 2008, 11:33 PM Good Morning Iligan!, the majestic city of waterfalls...:)
irbo October 28th, 2008, 05:40 AM Hi Alingatong...Gors and borg,,,
hope u had a gud time with BOBNewYork at club 7... I wasn't able to get there last night since i had my cousin with me who just arrived from Taiwan and we had supper at home...lol..
By the way guys... i guess BobNewYork mentioned that he told you guys what problems he had encountered in VDO. I do hope that such prestigious bank like VDO would have other alternatives for those people not just Foreigner to get cash advances with thier credit cards, whenever the swiper of cards fail to work. They have to consider this because it makes thier clients uncomfortable especially when they need immediate cash for emergency like for hospital or doesn't have enough cash on hand.
It's really quite disspointing to know that PH is really quite so slow in giving good services to customers. It takes VDO to have thier swiper fix in a about 2 days!!! and Can't you imagine how a Foreigner could survive with enough cash on hand and is stranded in an unknown city to them.
Sucks!!! isnt it???
Furthermore how can we establish a good flow of tourism when such problem like this occur and has no aternatives in iligan city.
What can u say about this gors..alingaton?

the name exudes exclusivity....but that Lasalle Iligan School does not.... I m so sorry to say... and excuse me, you dont talk like a La Sallian the way my friends in Manila do....they go for details and descriptions and importantly bases and not of noisy frothfulls of humbugs.
I know of St. Michael's, but where's Lasalle Academy?.....can you post a picture of that La Salle Academy which you are very fond bragging about.....I would love scrutiinizing its "exclusivity" :D
well your claims is exclusively your personal own...better substantiate them with official databases
its quiet funny people could just come up with "who is better than who" things even from sources as Tiktik magazine
maybe you are not familiar or perhaps selectively ignorant of that result of the latest Asian institute of Management Cities Ranking project which offers a far more objective detail of the criteria for which city/ cities in the country offers the higher edge.
I dont want to be like you so I wont be citing my own personal points as I would want to avoid bias an subjectivity.
You just have to refer to this official AIM Report...which I understand the good mayor of Iligan have humbly taken into consideration and has designed ways to improve Iligan rankings in the future...
What I do not understand why such a Timoga-Lover who profess to be "educated" in Iligans better known yet "the most expensive school" cannot do the same as the mayor...
ignorance perhaps?....naah...or maybe just stupid arrogant bigotry :)
I have a suggestion for you, you send a letter to AIM Manila and tell them that in your self made criteria...you made a conclusion that says their ranking is wrong.. how's that for your home work ? :)

EM 2 Project
As part of its thrust to improve competitiveness, Mabuhay Vinyl is replacing its Diaphram Cell Plant built in 1979 with a state-of-the-art Ion Exchange Membrane (IEM) Plant producing liquid caustic soda, hydrochloric acid and liquid chlorine.
The project has been registered with the Board of Investments with an annual capacity of 24,000 DMTPY of caustic soda, 50,000 LMTPY of hydrochloric acid and 5,500 MTPY of liquid chlorine under the Retention, Expansion, and Diversification (RED) Program on a Pioneer Status. With such status, the project is entitled to duty free importation of capital equipment and six years income tax holiday.
The plant will use the latest n-BiTAC electrolyzers from Chlorine Engineers Corporation of Japan. Aside from this, totally new sections will be installed such as the secondary brine filtration, secondary brine purification and brine dechlorination units. The HCl Synthesis Unit and the Caustic Evaporation Plant will likewise be replaced with a fully automated system using the latest instrumentation and process control.
Construction of the plant was awarded to Philippine Iron Construction and Marine Works, Inc. (PICMW).

Industrial City + my homeplace + industrial tech. practitioner + i'm nature lover + lots of friends = I love it cause it has everything i need. that's my formula. my opinionated equation.
We have different views and each is treated with respect.
BTW, google earth is much more focused on some cities here in the Philippines and abroad compared to others. Do you think google also has criteria for this action? Ano kaya criteria nila? I will not post my opinion kay daghan sensitive gabasa...

;27244388']Correct! fortunately for Ateneo, maski mahal, bawi man sa quality of education.Mas astig nga lang sa Philippine Science kay dili lang quality of education, libre pa (and allowance kung qualified imong family sa income group) hehe
However, your "words of wisdom" shouldnt be directed at me since di ko naman pinagmalaki ang kamahalan ng tuition sa Ateneo..if mag back read ka, it was Timoga Lover who was boasting of LaSalle Academy's being an "exclusive school" kuno :) thats why I asked kung magkano ba dun at nasabi nyang "exclusive school" ito :)
timoga_lover October 28th, 2008, 06:25 PM the name exudes exclusivity....but that Lasalle Iligan School does not....
Your argument starts to fall apart; thanks to your poor logic and lack of sources. It's very clear now that you cannot substantiate your claim and therefore you're nothing but just full of blah-blahs.
I have challenged you since the very beginning to support your claim. You have nothing so far except your warped and twisted conclusions and the AIM reports.
First of all, how absolute is that AIM report? While I do not disregard it, I don't see it as an absolute truth. For example, AIM has listed Butuan in the top 10 but not Cagayan de Oro. Are you saying Butuan is "better" than Cagayan? Are you kidding me? Give me a break!
Second of all, you have perhaps misunderstood the real meaning of an elite high school. At least, in the city of Iligan and relative to most schools in Northern Mindanao, La Salle is considered elite and can compete with the best high school in the region. But the biggest thing you missed here is that – I am saying that you can't find any reputable and high standard high school in Butuan that is of La Salle’s prestige and standard. Sure, compared to La Salle Greenhills, La Salle Iligan has a lot more to work on. But relative to the high schools in Butuan, La Salle Iligan would trounce and smash any high school in Butuan to the ground. Look, there are several elite high schools in Cagayan de Oro, Davao (especially), Zamboanga, Cotabato and GanSan. There are at least 3 in Iligan. But there isn't even one in Butuan. Duh!
You also implied that I’m arrogant. Well, sorry if I came across to you as someone super high to reach. Sorry if you come from a poor family and I go to an exclusive high school and is heading to a super elite college in Manila next year. Sorry that I am educated at a fine, exclusive and elite high school, while you, on the other hand, were only educated at a poor public high school in a destitute place that is Butuan. Sorry that in every possible aspect in life, I’m in a better position than you are. I’m sorry that you don’t have a life outside of this forum. Sorry for your predicament in life. Sorry that the world is nasty to you. Sorry that you’re ugly and I am good looking. Sorry that because you’re poor and uneducated you develop this insecurity problem. I’m really sorry for you and your pathetic life. Now, can we move on and leave our personal lives out of this discussion?
Now, let me remind you that this is a debate between Iligan and that class-B (maybe even class-c) city of yours -- Butuan. You have the audacity to compare Butuan to Iligan but you don’t have any source to back you up? What kind of a debater are you? Are you even serious? LoL…
I dare you to support your claim. I have given you several reasons already why Iligan is a notch above Butuan in terms of economic progress and in some areas I have given as criteria, but you, on the other hand, have nothing so far but a hollow blah-blahs; it seems your pie-size brain is cracking already and you're scared people would know that it has nothing inside it but a piece of stinky, yellow shit!
How exclusive La Salle Iligan is? Well, it's exclusive enough that people like you couldn't even get near its entrances. Sorry, but you lost again as you lost in our previous debate, despite your old age and alleged perceive wit. Sorry.

timoga_lover October 28th, 2008, 06:37 PM ;27235968']magkano ba per school year (lets say sa high school) sa la salle iligan?
I would say that the term elite does not always refer to (or not exclusive to) monetary value especially when it's addressed to schools. let me give you an example.
MSU-IDS is an elite high school. Its tuition is just a fraction of the cost of attending La Salle Iligan. But it is every bit as good as La Salle Iligan in terms of academic standards. The advantage of La Salle Iligan to MSU-IDS is that, La Salle is widely connected. Its alumni are rich and they have this culture of support. In general, La Salle grads do look after each other. The alumni network is strong and affluent. But then again, "elite" is not exclusive to expensive schools. MSU-IDS is an elite high school and so is St. Mary’s. In Manila, the Philippine Science High School in Diliman is an elite high school but it’s not as expensive as La Salle Greenhills.

alam ko po yan no need to explain since di ko naman po tinatanong kung paanong naging elite ang LaSalle Academy Iligan.. I understand that good schools need not be expensive. I graduated from Ateneo and mahal dun compared sa Phil.
timoga_lover October 28th, 2008, 06:42 PM that's a good Q....how "expensive" is that school ba? :)
OMG!!! I can't believe how narrow-minded can you get!
So, if a school does not charge very highly, it is not an elite high school?
That’s a strong showing of your poor and amateurish logic.
Pisay is in every sense of the word an elite school. Is Pisay expensive?
Isip-isip... :lol::lol::lol:
timoga_lover October 28th, 2008, 06:49 PM ;27236800']pati yung "luxurious" hotels na meron sa Iligan and wala sa Butuan gusto ko rin malaman kung ano?
how luxurious are these hotels exactly? say compared to the better known Mindanao Hotels like Marco Polo, Grand Regal, Apo View, Waterfront, Pryce Plaza and Garden Orchid Hotel Zamboanga?
Wait up, dude.
Davao is in a league above Iligan and even more so Butuan.
If you want to pit Davao against any city in the Philippines, try Cebu. They're in the same league, okay?
So, please don't waste your time in this thread, if your intention is just to showcase Davao. I've been there a couple of times and I wouldn't dare compare Iligan to Davao; not even CdO can compete with Davao, okay?
However, BoB-Bxu's claim needs to be corrected. And when he said Butuan is better than Iligan but couldn’t' support what he's saying, I think he’s here for a suicide.
PEACE!
regjeex, the scale of both pics is the same. It's written at the lower right of the pic. Just accept it, regjeex, that although Butuan is improving, Iligan is still the more developed city between the two.
If someone from Davao or CdO will tell me -- di maganda ang Iligan compare sa city namin -- masaktan ako. BUT, I will not dare disprove such claim, because I am an objective person and I cannot disprove what they say no matter how hard I try.
Again, Iligan is more developed and better --in general-- than Butuan. Whether you like it or not, that is a fact. You can gloat all you want but the fact remains that Iligan is better than Butuan. That is not to say, however, than Iligan is the most developed city in the island. Of course, I would not say such a thing. Davao, CdO, GenSan, Zamboanga are bigger and more developed than Iligan.
timoga_lover October 28th, 2008, 07:03 PM ;27239548']hmmmm not bad, as far as i remember mga P30,000 ata nagastos namin nung 4th year ako sa AdDU (SY 1996-97)

46k sa kinder and elementary and 35-38k sa high school, pweraother required na gastos like uniforms and books that must be bought on campus. in total, you'd need around 50k plus to survive in lasal. of course, i wasn't counting the baon and other personal expenses that you would incur outside of the campus.
again, elite is not exclusively correlated to expensive. The Philippine Science high schools are elite schools but they are not expensive. I guess Bob-BXu missed that terribly.

Sensya na bro. To be honest with you, I would not make a hasty claim especially if I don't have facts to back me up. For example, I would not dare say Iligan is more developed than is Cagayan de Oro. maski lait-laitin pa nila ako, CdO is more progressive than Iligan is and I cannot refute such a claim. Pero iting si Bob-Bxu, he made a claim that he can hardly support, so I challanged him to show me how a poor and relatively small city as Butuan can match Iligan in development.

50 grand for the 10 month period for HS/PS... that's totally insane.. :ohno:
in that case, sa MSU-IIT nalang ako mag aaral kung ganyan ka heavy ang bayarin....
kung sa HS... MSU-IDS is still much preferable..
timoga_lover October 28th, 2008, 08:06 PM in that case, sa MSU-IIT nalang ako mag aaral kung ganyan ka heavy ang bayarin....

That probably explains the huge turnout of applicants at MSU-IDS. MSU-IDS is very selective. I have respect for that school as I do St Mary's.
But La Salle caters to a specific demographic -- the demographic of well-off families in the city. I've tried convincing my parents to send me to IDS when I turned into first-year high school because I thought it would prepare me better than La Salle would for my dream of attending UP Diliman for my college education, but they did not grant my request. They explained to me that La Salle offers a better "high school experience" and thought that I would be happier at La Salle. Of course, parents know best for their children. :)
50 grand for the 10 month period for HS/PS... that's totally insane.. :ohno:
No, it's not insane; it's worth every penny I paid.
It probably is insane if you're from the not-so-well-off backgrounds. But if you can afford the fees and you value education highly, you wouldn't say paying 50k for a good education is insane. :)
BTW, that's inclusive of books and uniforms.
timoga_lover October 28th, 2008, 08:14 PM Xavier HS, Ateneo de Davao HS and even St Mary's do charge that much as well. I think Xavier HS in CdO is even more expensive. Even Capitol HS and Corpus Cristy are close to 40k per year now.

timoga Lover, there is an old adage that the one who makes a lot of noise is the one who has lots of empty air..
in this case more air coming from you.
dont be so defensive, this is an argument of knowledge and intellect..and not of streetsmart wit...is proper argument taught in your La Salle..?
can you explain why for many years Iligan despite posseesing the potentials of a hydropower hub..yet even until now is still in the grapples with my lowly Butuan? :) Maybe its not of Iligan as a city....but maybe there are people in Iligan such as Timoga Lover who does not invest in work but on mere empty air..
or would you find it ironic too that despite its earned glory as the industrial center...yet even up to now, it could hardly pull away from competitiveness from newer component cities such as Tagum, Dipolog and even Pagadian (with an airport with two upcoming malls) or again with my lowly Butuan?
I find it bakya for you finding true pride and joy with your GMall...I can understand your giddiness..sa kadugay natukuran ug mall sa Iligan, I am sure a person such as the likes of Timoga Lover would experience halleluiahs of awe....sa binisaya pa.....natagaw  A self proclaimed rich boy finding joy at a B and C class mall...how humbling :)
you mentioned too that there are plenty of waterfalls....water resources that is in Iligan....but where is the potable water in Iligan's faucets? :)
regarding that AIM report...well there's no question about CDO's....even if the report says otherwise...you can see evidently that other sectors of its economy is growing...
now what are we hearing from Iligan now?...Isn't it PAL have shelved its service there because of poor load viability?...or of poor infrastructure....correct me if I am wrong ok..
there is no catchment area for which Iligan can control...but instead Iligan belongs to another catchment area for which CDO controls.. what you will see after you pass by the city outskirts and after the factories are vast lands of morolandia..the MILF must have been correct in their assumption..
this might be the reason why a huge employed populace in Iligan's workforce go to CDO even for reasons of watching movies or buying groceries??? (tama ba ako?)
have I also learned that products or produce from Iligan and Lanao does NOT go much thru Iligan port due to poor ship connections aside from high port cargo taxes? and instead go to CDO port? correct me if I am wrong ok...
what's wrong with our industrial city and the power hub of Mindanao?...bakit hinde na nag take off? is it on the plateau? or down hill? maybe its time to realize the problems and not delve much on long gone laurels as Timoga Lover now is having as a career :) Tama ba ako Timoga lover?
now, no need to be highblood, Timoga Lover, I do understand your apprehension, you need to put back your feet to the ground where it should be anchored...
and before I forget, I must say your La Salle school is so "exclusive"....I dont know why you keep using your La salle argument against Butuan? :)
are you classifying your own school to be that "exclusive" just beacuse there is a fastfod outlet catering to B and C crowd and carendirias within its premises?....boy, your standards are twistedly again so baduy and bakya :)
by the way, regarding your ignorance of posting photos here.....FYI computer education and computer art tools are taught in as early as kindergarten years in all La Sallian schools... its either you never learned it...or your just richly dumb??...or it is never taught there in La salle Academy??
seems... al lot have been enumerated, but I do hope Timoga Lover will realize and soon find humility for him to take action in his capacity as an Ilganon for the benefit of the City and its succeeding generations....padayon sa pag uswag Iligan...^^
:)

TONZI October 29th, 2008, 08:35 AM omg... things have been said between two forumers in connection to each cities. I hope you two are satisfied with what you are pointing out now. For me, I can say that Butuan and Iligan share the same roads into progress. Both are lagging behind other cities in Mindanao and at the same time trying hard to cope up with non-highly urbanized cities that are gaining ground faster than both cities.
AND MORE TO THAT, BOTH CITIES ARE EVEN...
Satisfied? I suggest you two square it out on PMs. You're not helping the thread at all. :ohno:

@BOB-bXu, @timoga_lover: From your posts, i have seen that it was already a battle of words and not of wits. You wrote statements which are neither constructive nor helpful towards the readers. Remember, "di lang kamo gabasa sa thread". Please act and write maturely. I was hurt by your words 'coz I know most are not true.
This thread is a progress thread.
@BOB-bXu, don't post opinionated comments like that here sa Iligan thread. Many locals are reading here. It might start a fire. Both you and timoga_lover are talking 'bout schools.... don't negate the city generally. Okay.

g0Rs October 29th, 2008, 12:43 PM Having a good navigator is a big plus
Cebu Daily News
First Posted 17:13:00 10/29/2008
Since the Carrera Habagat started in 2000, Cebuano teams have been consistent winners in its races. Their secret: having a good navigator.
According to seasoned navigator Ronnie Muring during a short class on navigation at the Cebu City Sports Center last weekend, a team must have a good navigator to stand a chance at winning a race.
“What is the use of your skills in running, biking, swimming if you don’t have the navigating skills, [what happens] if you get lost going to one control point to the other?” Muring explained.
According to the Carrera Habagat Event Coordinator Nadine R. Vallejos, land navigation, using a map and compass is a skill that is not to be taken lightly.
Organizers of the 8th Edition of the Carrera Habagat dubbed as the Isang Linggo sa Sto. Domingo in Sto. Domingo, Albay, have completed in setting the course of the race set to start November 12, making it more challenging and gut-wrenching.
They are Randy Su (Event Director), Ramon Vidal (Race Course Setter) and Alan Salazar (Head of F.A.R.T. or fast action response team).
As of press time, seven teams have already registered for the race. They are Team Kalit of Cebu, Team Blood Red of Cebu led by Jens Funk, Team Concepcion Industry of Manila, Team R.O.X. (Manila), Team Conquer of Manila, Team Iligan Pride of Iligan and defending champion team Davao.
The Municipality of Sto. Domingo, spearheaded by Mayor Celso Delos Angeles, is in full preparation for the upcoming event.
They will set up an information booth/help desk at the Sto. Domingo Municipal Hall and Black Sands Beach Resort (Base Camp) starting November 5 to assist racers who usually come ahead of time to check the area. /Correspondent Iste Leopoldo

g0Rs October 29th, 2008, 12:44 PM DTI Iligan launches 1st barangay consumer welfare desk
Iligan City (29 October) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has recently launched the 1st Barangay Consumer Welfare Desk (B-CWD) at Barangay Del Carmen, this city.
DTI Region 10 Assistant Regional Director Linda O. Boniao said today's consumers are besieged with a host of unscrupulous individuals who use more sophisticated tools of deception.
"As we face an increasing number of consumer issues, there is a need to strengthen the convergence effort of support among national government agencies, local government units and the private sector towards the promotion of consumer welfare starting in the barangay level," she stressed.
The director further said that the barangay units are the first line of offense and defense in local governance, thus, it is deemed important to establish the Barangay CWD.
Boniao, who is also the concurrent provincial director of DTI Iligan/Lanao del Norte said that the launching in Del Carmen was done at the ground floor of the barangay hall, with Barangay Chairman Pablito S. Abragan, Jr. and members of the Sangguniang Pambarangay.
Also present were Purok and Zone presidents, SK members, Lupon members, barangay health workers and leaders of different associations based in the barangay.
DTI personnel also discussed consumer empowerment during the event.
Part of the program was the unfolding of B-CWD signage and markers/ tarpaulins for Eight Basic Consumer Rights and Five Consumer Responsibilities, and turn-over of consumer-related information materials from the different consumer protection agencies.
Being the pilot barangay for the B-CWD program, barangay residents of del Carmen would have a venue where they can lodge their complaints and obtain immediate redress or speedy resolution of their complaints.
"The program is an in-house complaint handling mechanism and information service center for consumers and barangay residents," Boniao explained.
Barangay Del Carmen was chosen as the pilot barangay for the B-CWD program of DTI in coordination with the Local Price Coordinating Council of the City of Iligan (LPCC).

BOB-bXu October 29th, 2008, 12:58 PM I am very, readily agreeable to that d4rkhowl...
me myself too is quiet amused how Timoga Lover uses his wealth of "riches" in his arguments...
this self proclaimed rich boy never failed to amuse me even before when he was using his nanay's words in his arguments...now he is using his supposed riches...that he is enrolled in THE MOST expensive...THE MOST exclusive school...that he is rich...blah blahs
hmmm....such behavior reflects whats in the meat...
obviously what Timoga Lover lacks in intellect, wit and knowledge he compensates for his displayed "riches"
I've got my own riches too Timoga Lover, I put them in my fat bank account...and not in the mouth..:)
as an advise for you kid, don't put those riches in your mouth as a defense when you are at a losing end in an argument...it is soooo baduy and un-elite-like :nono:....morever...I hope those "riches" will fit into your mouth which I can see is still full of your nanay's breastmilk....
if you find it fun engaging in this kind of arguments...please let me know...I would love to be amused...I have not seen much clowns in my 3 year stay here at SSC :)
but here's to you kid
:kiss::kiss:
I wish him good luck in his bid for an education in Manila...I urge this boy to travel a lot, both overseas and domestic...
I can always remember when I was in my kinder years, I always used to think that my house as the biggest structure in the block...until I went to this big church near my kindergarten school...only then that I realized that there is always something bigger and better than my own... travel then offers a humbling experience for me then at that moment.
the poor boy needs to recognize that there is always the 'bigger fish'....and that too much air in his young tiny skull will make him incognizant of the 'bigger fishes' thus making him a prey and be eaten...:)
hmmmm...so much for sage words :)..I am too young for those yet:lol:
looking forward for the next Iligan Thread ^^

d4rkhowl October 29th, 2008, 03:08 PM Filipino scholar has found new source of coherent light - DOST
10/29/2008 | 08:30 PM
MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino scientist currently studying in the United States has found a new source of coherent light, like lasers, which only potentially needs lower power to operate, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said on Wednesday.
In a press statement, the DOST's Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) said Ryan Balili, together with his adviser David Snoke of University of Pittsburgh, were able to demonstrate that the transition of particles into waves could be done at higher temperature which would require lesser power to generate.
The phenomenon is called Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC), named after Indian physicist Satyendranath Bose who worked on the statistics of monoatomic ideal gases and Albert Einstein who speculated this macroscopic coherent state.
“Einstein proposed that at very low temperatures a certain type of identical particles, now called bosons, would’collapse,’ or condense, into a single quantum mechanical wave.
“However, in Balili’s work, he was able to demonstrate the same phenomenon at higher temperatures using polaritons, an energy particle which exists only in a medium that can be polarized by an electromagnetic wave," the statement explained.
It quoted Balili as saying that the main challenge was making the polariton transition into a BEC even if polaritons exist only for very short times, approximately a few picoseconds.
Nevertheless, Balili and his adviser were able to trap polaritons which turned into a single, spatially compact condensate of gas analogous to atomic BEC.
“One way to think of a polariton BEC is that it is a state of matter that has some of the properties of a laser and some of the properties of a superconductor," the DOST-SEI statement said.
Balili and his group at the University of Pittsburgh said that what they were able to show is that the emitted light of the polariton BEC and its electrons are coherent, which is a property of superconductors that allows it to make electric current flow without resistance and wavelike interference of electrical signals.
He said that the most promising applications of the polaritons BEC are in optical devises which takes advantage of laser-like sources at low-power coherent light sources.
“This may be useful for signaling, switching, and amplification in optical communications," he said.
Balili, a 2002 summa cum laude Bachelor of Science in Physics graduate of the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology, is currently taking up his doctorate in Physics at the University of Pittsburgh where he also finished his Master of Science in Physics.
Balili was a scholar of the DOST during his undergraduate years.
Dr. Ester B. Ogena, director of the DOST-SEI, lauded Balili’s work saying his discovery is a manifestation of the caliber of scholars the DOST is getting every year.
“We are the germination box of soon-to-be great names in the science and technology world. Balili is just one of them and every year we get around 3,500 scholars who in the future would propel the Philippines into first world status," she said in the statement.
Ogena expressed optimism that more DOST-SEI scholars would make a mark in science and technology with the implementation of the Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program (ASTHRDP) and the Engineering Research and Development for Technology Program (ERDTP) which provides students to proceed to the MS and PhD studies as a scholar.
“We are beefing up our critical mass of scientists and engineers through the ASTHRDP and ERDTP by providing them with scholarships in our top universities," she said.
Ogena avowed to continuously entice students to venture into science careers through promotional programs and scholarship grants.
“We shall be at the forefront of science and technology human resources development and create the necessary critical mass of scientists and engineers the Philippines needs," she said. - GMANews.TV

Just look at what the other said, he finds it funny how Iliganons like @timogalover finds it like "natagaw" (natugaw?, is it @Bob?) sa new Gmall or finds it funny how other small cities are eclipsing Iligan city and all those things like boast of City of Waterfalls and yet there is no potable water.

There's no right or wrong place. This kind of arguments only reminds us of the strengths and weaknesses of our city. We should be proud of what we have that we considered our strengths but it's more important to know also our weaknesses and work harder to improve them and turn into another strength. We should not focus on who's a better forumer or not but on the set of facts or circumstances that surround the discussion.
Sometimes, it takes an outsider to tell us of the things we do not know. It's hard but it's true. That's the "blind quadrant" of the Johari Window. As ones level of confidence and self esteem develops, one may actively invite others to comment on one's blind spots. :)

I remember this guy, when he graduated summa cum laude, he was featured on the PHILIPPINE DAILY INQUIRER. In 2002, they were like 1 summa cum laude, and 2 or 3 magna cum laudes for MSU IIT. My 2nd degree cousin was one of the 3 magna cum laudes. And now, he is leading the technological discovery of a new light source mixed with adding to new knowledge on what Einstein proposed regarding low temperatures of BEC, this time using it with high temperatures! OMG, this really negates what another forumer from the south who told that their university leads all Mindanao universities.

Lavi October 29th, 2008, 03:57 PM I dont think they are exchanging intellectual intercourse this time. All they are having are just mere REGIONAL PRIDE. :(
"intellectual intercourse" wasn't my idea.
Point taken.:)

Dili pud bya easy ra ang IDS and IIT as a whole. Ang training sa IDS is already a a college training na. I have seen how IDS ruled many quiz bees and debating competitions.
The same goes with IIT as a whole, be it in QUIZ BEES, DEBATES and other endeavours, we are spearheading Mindanao and represented Mindanao, if not the Philippines, in all Asian (debating competitions) and international festivals (choral, theater and arts).

g0Rs October 29th, 2008, 09:41 PM DepEd to give Muslim youths jobs, training
Thursday, October 30, 2008
ILIGAN CITY – In an effort to help out-of-school Muslim youths get a head start in getting jobs, the Department of Education (DepEd) will begin giving them Arabic language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE).
Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said 1,000 out-of-school youths would be trained under the ALIVE program to help them land jobs in the technical and vocational sector. Lapus said Iligan City would be the first beneficiary of the ALIVE program in the Mindanao region after its successful pilot test in Metro Manila and Regions III and IV earlier this year.
Under the ALIVE with Technical Vocation Education and Training (TVET) project of the DepEd and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Muslim youths are given Arabic language and values education prior to “tech-voc” skills training to prepare them to meet possible foreign and local job recruiters.
Some 25,000 Muslim youths stand to benefit from the ALIVE-TVET program.
Lapus expressed optimism that the project would help provide good opportunities for out-of-school Muslim youths.
“The main reason why we’re educating people is to make them productive citizens and not just give them a diploma. At the end of this whole process is job generation,” Lapus said.
“TVET-ALIVE will not only address the lack of employment prospects in the South but also reduce the broader conflict that time and again puts Mindanao in the spotlight,” he added. – Rainier Allan Ronda

wow! thats great to hear. I'm also a student from the department of physics at MSU-IIT and im proud to say that he is one of the best products not only produced by our department but also by MSU-IIT. I think earlier this year he also won the young scientist award in the US. Everyone is looking forward to his return together with the knowledge and achievements he has attained. It's something us mindanaoans should be proud of. It just comes to show that many of our great minds not only come from northern philippines but also from the south, and i hope his achievements will encourage the government to support the academic institutions here in mindanao.

tonight October 30th, 2008, 06:27 AM Filipino scholar has found new source of coherent light - DOST
