langyaw January 12th, 2009, 07:46 AM If you're interested to buy the SSC Philippines shirt, place your order here (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=761866&page=11)
gORs, not to dash your hopes, but be careful in this deal because (though the amount may not be significant), the guy who initiated all these, is not a merchant (meaning, not authorized to take credit card payments online), and so does not have the mechanism to receive payments and ship products systematically. as you might have noticed already, it's getting a bit confusing now, as to who does what.
1 idea posted there was for those interested in the t-shirt to just grab the design, get it printed for himself, and just pay the creator some amount for royalty.
that can be done for those in Iligan, where you can get the t-shirt printed in quantity at ALDO's, for example.
but for that idea to succeed, all those interested in buying the shirt must meet face to face, submit their own black shirt, and perhaps pay up front, to secure everyone's commitment. and, of course, someone's got to lead this activity. that might as well be you.

Good Day SSCers!
Here is the information necessary for ordering the SSC National T-shirt:
http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x248/gibbster1/others/SSCTeedesign1.jpg
Ordering - Manila, Philippine Domestic and Overseas
You may send your payment through Western Union or for the Philippines, either in ML Lhuiller Kwarta Padala or Cebuana Lhuiller. The recipient information will go as follows:
Name: Bernardo Muerong Arellano III
Address: Unit 16C, Kingswood Condominium, Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City, Philippines
Telephone Number: +63(921)2155266
Upon sending, please PM/YM/or SMS me the details of your name, address and most importantly your MCTN or the shipping/tracking number.
For Metro Manila orders, you may also pay directly/personally to me (HabagatCentral1) but you may have to contact me before 21 January 2008 since I'll be leaving for Iloilo and will be there for 2 weeks.
Deadline for purchasing for the first batch would be at February 10, 2008.
Distribution and Shipping
For Metro Manila and suburb orders, you have two options:
First: You may claim it personally through me in which it would not incur additional shipping costs. Please do contact me or send me a PM/YM/SMS for claiming your shirt. Otherwise, we will be announcing the date when you can claim your shirts in one meet.
Second: For special requests or delivery, we may send in your order directly to your doorstep with additional shipping cost. For Manila orders, shipping cost may have an additional P115 and for Luzon P120.
For Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao Shipping:
We would like to suggest that the SSCers of Luzon and especially Visayas and Mindanao would agree on one contact person who will be responsible distributing the t-shirts in their locality so that we could send the shirt in bulk...this way it will be more affordable to ship the said t-shirts to any destination in the Philippines.
Please do have an agreed assigned representative from your locality by 31 January 2008.
Please do send me a PM of your personal information, delivery address and contact number through PM of the said assigned representative.
Possible rate may be PhP50 to PhP80 but may be reduced if the orders would increase in your locality, so start informing other forumers there and encourage them to take part of this project.
For Overseas Shipping:
Standard shipping rates apply either through FedEx or DHL.
Distribution:
For Greater Metro Manila area orders, we will be announcing when will be the date to claim your t-shirts personally.
For Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao orders, you may claim your tshirts from your designated representative.
Possible delivery of the t-shirts would be from a week to two weeks after deadline, so most probably we will have our tshirts by mid or late February.
For more questions, suggestions or comments, please feel free to send me a private message/PM.
Also, for interested parties who want to order, please add up your name on the list so that we could have a complete list of how many will be ordering.
Thanks and mabuhay po tayong lahat!

I have already placed an order for myself.
For now, what we have here is the National SSC Shirt, meaning same design for the whole of SSC Philippines. Everyone was asked to submit the best design and SSC Philippines voted for the best. Gibb's came out being the highest vote. Ordering is not compulsory but for those who wanted to own one just place your order and let somebody represent SSC-Iligan as per instruction.
If ever we wanted to have our local SSC Shirt (Iligan), then maybe we can start by sharing our creativity/design, post it here and let's vote for the best. Then let's decide on what to do next. :)

Here are a few pics of my most recent visit to Iligan as a Visitor / Tourist. Although some of these pics may not look like typical tourist pics, to me, they represent just a few of the many things I find interesting about Iligan City.

After 22 hours of air travel, half way around the world, I am minutes away from the end of the last leg of the journey at Lumbia Airport. This is the actual plane I arrived in.

There are many forms of recreation in Iligan, this is just one of them.
I worked in the Bowling Business for many years. This was the very
first time I had ever bowled in a bowling center that had not been
equipped with Automatic Pinsetters and it was a great pleasure !

Could this be one of Iligan Citys hidden waterfalls ? It is in the patio area at Club Seven where I spent many evenings enjoying good food, great drinks, and a nice atmosphere to spend with my Iliganon friends.

My last morning in Iligan for this visit after eating in one of my favorite eateries, Jollibee, Tibanga . Would you fly half way around the world to eat at Jollibee ? I did, and for me this Jollibee was one of my first attractions in Iligan as Jollibee is virtually unheard of in my part of the world. After breakfast, I said goodbye to Jollibee for this visit, until the next visit.

(mta)

BobNewYorkUSA January 15th, 2009, 04:25 PM Another nice job on the Video gORs, I like that logo on the end showing Iligan 9200 !
g0Rs January 15th, 2009, 07:34 PM ^^ Thanks. Actually the logo at the end of the video is from the SSC Philippines shirt. I just added the Iligan 9200 to make it more localized. :)
BobNewYorkUSA January 15th, 2009, 08:26 PM Yes, I have been following the discussion on the T Shirt. I like the idea of a localized one for SSC-Iligan and the way it was displayed at the end of your video looked like a good idea for a localized logo. As a matter of fact, it was exactly that which attracted my attention to Iligan in the first place, several years ago. A 4 digit postal code consisting of an even number ( 9200 ) and the word Iligan which when I first read it reminded me of the old TV show " Giligans Island " only with the letter G left off. Please bear in mind that when I first read something, my mind promounces it in American English, until I learn otherwise. That is why I liked your addition of " Iligan 9200 " on the SSC shirt logo, that is what caught my attention the very first time I read it, and, as you and many of the forumers know, I've learned a lot about Iligan City since then.
I wonder if you are going to move the " Visit Iligan " series of video slide shows over to the SSC-Iligan Youtube page as well ? I think there were 5 parts to that one.
g0Rs January 15th, 2009, 08:43 PM ^^ I deleted that one since I'm currently using a different account. I'll be uploading more picture videos few days from now.
Lavi January 15th, 2009, 08:47 PM Websurfing brings international scholarship to MSU-IIT
First published in the August 17, 2008 issue of Mindanao Scoop.
Several years ago an avid web surfer from New York, USA saw an address appear on his screen "9200 Iligan City." Out of curiosity Robert Schappert was intrigued as to where in the world Iligan City was and what may be there.
Web searching on popular web search engines brought a flood of information about Iligan with a high percentage of pictures, videos and text information put up by the people of Iligan. Mr. Schappert commented “Internet postings originated by Iliganons give more of a true picture of Iligan than could ever be attained by reading travel books and commercial websites. " The most useful websites he found are Mindanao.Com, Skyscrapercity.com, Iligan.gov.ph and youtube.com. There are many more but these continually inform the viewer as to the latest news and events in addition to good background information.
Along the way, Mr. Schappert made some good friends and acquaintances on various internet chat channels and
interactive websites which also proved to be good sources of information about Iligan City.
Mr. Schappert further commented, “One of the earliest websites I found in Iligan City was that of MSU-IIT which seemed to be a focal point of the city in many respects. It gave me the opportunity to learn of the quality of higher education that is available in the Philippines."
"It appeared Iligan City had such a variety of things that caught my interest, and finally decided to come and visit
to see so much of what I had learned about it on the internet come to life right in front of me. I had never been to the Philippines before and I felt Iligan City would be an excellent representation of what this part of the world is all about."
Mr. Schappert actually came to Iligan earlier this year and in addition to seeing many of the popular sites and attractions Iligan City has to offer, he spent half a day touring MSU-IIT. Twelve students and alumni of the University were his tour guides.
Being of a technical nature himself, Mr. Schappert commented, "I can really appreciate the level and expertise of education and training for today's technical and commercial trade careers being offered here." What interested Mr. Schappert were the IT, Electronics, Automation, and Air Conditioning & Refrigeration undergraduate courses. He enjoyed many conversations with faculty and staff as well as some of the students.
As Mr. Schappert sponsors Scholarships at Western Connecticut State University, not far from where he lives in the USA, his impression of MSU-IIT prompted him to create an International Scholarship here at MSU-IIT.
Mr. Schappert commented, “As so many MSU-IIT graduates gain employment not only in Iligan City and The Philippines but throughout the entire world, the results of my scholarship donation could make great things happen
here, there or anywhere!"
"Many people are not aware that almost anyone individually or as a group effort may create and fund a scholarship at a university of their choice. Scholarships may be customized to the desire of the scholarship creator to meet their specifications and requirements of which there can be many. In addition to financially assisting a student, being awarded a scholarship is a way of recognition of achievement by the student to qualify for Scholarship assistance."
"I am in hope that in creating this International Scholarship at MSU-IIT, it may inspire potential domestic and foreign employers of future MSU-IIT graduates by establishing a scholarship at this university of excellence, they can pre-invest in their future employees. I consider this not only an investment in the future of Iliganons but an investment in the world of tomorrow."
Mr. Schappert was very impressed with everything he viewed at MSU-IIT and that included the entire campus and all of the buildings, "You just can not experience a place like this from pictures, text or videos, although they can be a good start." [As told to Irma S. Boza]

Alingatong January 16th, 2009, 07:52 AM Pag-host sa Iligan sa 6th National Bamboo Conference, madayon na
Friday, 16 January 2009
(mta)

Agree! The car made me laugh when I looked at this photo in my PC after I transferred it. I did not notice it when I was taking that shot.:lol:

I believe I visited this building when I was in Iligan, it had been nicely renovated. Here I am sitting on the front porch. I recall that sign for Double tap Security. If you look carefully at the sign to my left I believe that is the address of the building.

When there was a lot of excitement about the Gaisano Mall being built in Iligan, I commented that yes, Iligan deserves to have a modern shopping mall but to also treasure some of the things you have today as someday they may be gone. It is good that so much of Iligan in its present form is able to be captured in photos and video.
xerxes January 17th, 2009, 03:47 AM hi guys, just wondering. where do you reckon the coolest appliance centre in iligan?
seems that you cant get the best from iligan. Do you still have to shop at CDO for better quality of appliances? been looking around for any of their website but havent found one. Do you have any idea?
BobNewYorkUSA January 17th, 2009, 04:13 AM I visited two appliance stores in Iligan when I was there. One is " Imperial Appliance " and the other one that I remember is " Gillamac's ". Both of these had name brrand products. I can not vouch for prices as I am not too familiar with the suggested manufacturers list prices of things there as compared to actual sales floor or ticket prices.
I am sure there are a few more stores in Iligan than these although I can not rmemeber their names. I enjoy looking in foriegn ( to me ) appliance stores to see what kind of products are available and how they differ from those available in the USA. The one style of appliance that caught my attention there were the plastic ( clothes ) washing machines as I had never seen anything like them before. Some of them seemed quite simple, basic, and cost effective compared to what is marketed here. One of these days I might even bring one home with me to the USA as a souvenier LOL.
I too have tried to find websites of retail stores in Iligan and I have come to the conclusion that many of them might not have websites due to the cost and also it is quite possible that " On Line Shopping " may not be as prevalent there as it is in other parts of the world.
One website I did find is :
http://www.gillamac.com/index.php
If you know the make and model of what you are looking for, try the manufacturers website for full description and specifications.
If anyone else has website information for appliance stores in or near Iligan I would be interested in knowing about them too.

Congressman Belmonte was not able to attend the ceremony cause his flight was cancelled due to the present bad weather condition experienced in Iligan City. However, as the saying goes..." the show must go on".
Congressman Belmonte was represented by Mr. Chito Cruz his Chief of Staff, who was honored to do the ribbon-cutting.
The ceremony was also attended by our City Mayor Laurence Lluch Cruz, Vice Mayor Henry Dy and some members of the city council.

tonight January 19th, 2009, 05:30 AM IPAG celebrates CCP’s 40 years with ‘Ranaw’
The MSU-IIT Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) presents its landmark musical ‘Ranaw: Isang Alamat’ to celebrate the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 40 years.
Ranaw
IPAG invited to perform as one of the country's most accomplished groups highlights the CCP’s celebrations restaging one of CCP’s most notable productions. The celebrations demonstrate the exceptional achievements and artistic excellence of performing groups which the CCP has nurtured.
http://msuiit.edu.ph/images/news/web/ipag/2009/ranaw8.jpg
With acclaim, Ranaw, a CCP Playwriting Winner which toured extensively in the 1980’s, was restaged in Iligan City last September in a series produced by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Ranaw’s significance is in its implications to folklore, history, politics, literature, and peace as its production evolved adjacently with the developments in Mindanao. With original music, dance, and the magic of the stage, the play was based on research on the controversial histories of old Mindanao families.
http://msuiit.edu.ph/images/news/web/ipag/2009/ranaw6.jpg
The play presents our pre-colonial tribes in turmoil mirroring the same conditions of our fragmented nation today. Ranaw journals the adventures of the Maguindanaon-Maranao-Higaunun-Iliganun epic hero Bato Lakungan who is the common ancestor of the communities of North-Central Mindanao.
Written by multi-awarded Steven P.C. Fernandez, the musical features Iligan’s most accomplished performers and artists among them IPAG associates Melvin Pascubillo, Leilani Fernandez, Amado Guinto, Orwell Obach, and the IPAG ensemble.
‘Ranaw’ performs February 20 and 21, 2:30 p.m. matinees and 7:30 p.m. gala shows at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater).

Project Runway Philippines is a Philippine adaptation of Project Runway. This reality television series, which aims to find "the next big Filipino fashion designer," is produced by Solar Entertainment Corporation and Unitel Productions. It premiered on July 30, 2008 on cable through ETC Entertainment Central and on free TV through SBN 21. The show is hosted by model and actress Teresa Herrera, with fashion designer and faculty member of School of Fashion and the Arts Jojie Lloren serving as mentor. Filipino top model and lifestyle feature writer Apples Aberin-Sahdwani and fashion designer Rajo Laurel complete the judging panel. The winner received P500,000 (roughly US$11,000) in cash, a start-up business package, an editorial spread in Mega magazine, and an opportunity to show their collection in Philippine Fashion Week. The final three designers, as revealed in the Finale episode, would get to design a clothing line to be sold exclusively in SM Makati and SM Ortigas, while the winner would display his collection in SM Makati. The Final Runway show was held on October 23, 2008, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, with New York-based handbag and accessories designer Rafé Totengco and notable shoe designer Cesar Gaupo as guest judges. Aries Lagat of Iligan City was declared the winner, beating Philipp Tampus of Lapu-Lapu City and Veejay Floresca of Makati City. ETC has announced the auditions for the program's second season.
Aries Lagat - 25 years old from Iligan City, Lanao del Norte. Octagon
Octagon and the building on the left is a stark contrast in aesthetics.
there should be a law in Iligan that will compel building owners in the Poblacion area and within the CBD to maintain the appearance of their buildings and not allow them to degrade to such ugly condition. :ohno:a simple paint or cleaning job would restore it to its original appearance.
Even the old houses should be kept in good condition by painting, or varnishing, whichever is appropriate (you can see that in the top photo, as an example).

Alingatong January 20th, 2009, 12:13 PM Websurfing brings international scholarship to MSU-IIT
First published in the August 17, 2008 issue of Mindanao Scoop.
http://www.msuiit.edu.ph/images/news/web/msuiit/2009/robert-schappert1.JPGhttp://www.msuiit.edu.ph/images/news/web/msuiit/2009/robert-schappert2.JPGhttp://www.msuiit.edu.ph/images/news/web/msuiit/2009/robert-schappert3.JPG
Schappert made some good friends and acquaintances on various internet chat channels and interactive websites which also proved to be good sources of information about Iligan City.
Mr. Schappert further commented, “One of the earliest websites I found in Iligan City was that of MSU-IIT which seemed to be a focal point of the city in many respects. It gave me the opportunity to learn of the quality of higher education that is available in the Philippines."
"It appeared Iligan City had such a variety of things that caught my interest, and finally decided to come and visit to see so much of what I had learned about it on the internet come to life right in front of me.
Mr. Schappert commented, “As so many MSU-IIT graduates gain employment not only in Iligan City and The Philippines but throughout the entire world, the results of my scholarship donation could make great things happen here, there or anywhere!"
Boza]

They say diha daw dapit sa may Ludo Bldg.

Report On The State Of Iligan City
By Mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz
January 21, 2009 (http://www.iligan.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2145)
Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz gave his 4th State of the City Report before the City Development Council (CDC) meeting, Jan. 21 outlining two major topics: the adversities, and the accomplishments in 2008.
Highlighted the adversities in 2008 are the MILF threat, the flooding and the global crises, while for the accomplishments, the highlights are the substantial increase in the general fund, the water expansion project, the Central Materials Recovery and Composting Facility, and the P350M fund for the circumferential Road 3 Project.
In said meeting, the CDC also approved the 20 percent development fund amounting to P115 Million.

Xangreal January 22nd, 2009, 04:47 PM Excuse me for being out of the way to your thread of beautiful photo displays...
I have seen on TV the news about an Army man ganged up and killed on the street by a number of people, and the whole crime was caught on a CCTV... I wonder if anyone here also saw that news and footage: where and in what street did that happened? Is the CCTV that caught the whole incident one of those installed by the City government along major thoroughfares of the City?
I just find that incident quite disturbing... amidst the city's boom swing...we see cold blooded killing on our streets.

MINDANAO STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF MEDICINE
The thee-story uncompleted building of MSU College of Medicine in Palao, Iligan City. It's situated right at the back of Iligan City Hospital

No, that isn't me. I guarantee you I look way better than that guy smiling in front of the camera. j/k  He's actually a friend of mine, Japeth, and he's from Davao City. He's a nursing board top-notcher (among the top 20 or something) and was inquiring at MSU Med at that time. I was amazed he actually liked MSU Med when there are several top-notched medical schools in Davao.

The college extension building, which obviously isn't finished yet. Makes me sick thinking billions of pesos was plundered under this administration and seeing our state universities in a despicable mode.

Entry-Exit road to the College of Medicine. Looks bucolic and provincial.
