^^Nice try @langyaw.

Anyways you got it right about the funding of Project 2 & 3.

For project 2, the Iligan City Government has entered a loan agreement with World Bank through Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) under the Support for Strategic Local Development Investment Project (S2LDIP). This loan will be payable in 15 years from 2008 up to 2022 with a grace period of three (3) years on principal payment.

For project 3, the source of fund is a loan from Development Bank of the Philippines amounting to P163.638 million.

DENR Iligan marks Valentine's Day with planting activity
by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (16 February) -- A significant day to remember for those involved in February 14 planting along riverbanks of 50 bamboo grass and 15 jackfruit seedlings by its stakeholders and adoptors, in Barangay Santiago, Iligan City.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, through the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO), Iligan City, spearheaded the riverbank planting along the Rivers of Iligan and Mandulog.

Forester Arnulfo Osio, who represented CENR Officer Mamacaya Lucman in a radio program at RMN Iligan dubbed as 'PIA Action Line' hosted by the Philippine Information Agency, Iligan City Information Center, said that this is in line with the Department's nationwide program on the Green Philippine Program (GPP) and the city's local government program on "Pakgang Baha" and "Bangon Suba".

In coordination with the local government City Environment and Management Office (CEMO), we were able to tap the local residents, especially those living near the riverbanks where the seedlings been planted, to be the adoptors, said Osio.

We require stakeholders to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) from the religious sector, the non-governmental organization, and adoptors as well, with the DENR for this program which signifies everyone's responsibility as to nurturing these seedlings to become full grown plants and trees, Osio explained.

Meanwhile, Ermelinda Tobias, director of the Integrated Bamboo-Based Livelihood Development Project (IBLDP), this city, has initiated to have a bamboo planted along riverbanks because it typically grows in this area, and absorbs water to prevent flooding and could be an economic value, contributory to our city's bamboo industry, Tobias emphasized. We have IBLDP.

Other areas being planted on February 15 were along riverbanks of Barangays Upper Hinaplanon and San Roque. Involved groups from the academe, small scale mining operators, civic clubs, Department of Science and Technology employees, have planted 135 bamboo propagates and 135 jackfruit seedlings, Osio said.

Osio acknowledged the assistance extended by their seedling providers like the National Power Corporation (NPC) in Ditucalan, Iligan City and the City Agriculture Office.

As the saying goes, "DENR CARES, DENR DARES", thus, we dare challenge everyone to join the upcoming planting schedules for the whole month of February, an undertaking to protect and identify watersheds and water resources, Osio expressed. (PIA Lanao del Norte)

Workbooks distributed in Iligan for higher NAT performance (http://www.mindanews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5928&Itemid=50)

ILIGAN CITY -- Workbooks for science, English and math subjects designed to improve the comprehension, retention and analytical ability of pupils were distributed last Wednesday to elementary school principals and supervisors with the “aim of improving the passing rate of students in the upcoming National Achievement Test (NAT) by March 3 and 5.”

Domingo V. Samson, schools division superintendent, said the worksheets “cover the fourth grading period which students could use for review and could bring at their respective homes.”

Said worksheets will be distributed to Grades 6 and 3 pupils. Its production was funded by the city government through the office of the mayor Lawrence Lluch Cruz.

Samson mandated teachers to integrate the lessons in these worksheets.

“We use to have an average of 47% of NAT result in 2007 which is way beyond the passing rate and which increase by 2% only in 2008. There is no such thing as impossible. We can slowly rise up from this dismal educational state if we will love our work, if we are true, and are honest always,” he said.

This distribution of worksheets is part of the program of Task Force 47-74+1, a multi-sectoral network in the locality that works to contribute to the reversal of the dismal state of the country’s educational system.

The task force will also publicize workbooks for students next school year.

Aurea Redondo, of the office of the city mayor, challenged principals and supervisors work together in solving the city’s problem in education instead of passing the blame.

“You do not just receive worksheets but also take the cudgels of conscientiously performing the necessary tasks to conduct reviews in the forthcoming National Achievement Test (NAT),” she said.

She reckoned that “Iligan is supposed to be the best producer of manpower. But the dismal result of NAT examinations might severely affect the perceptions of companies who give high regard to our human resources and graduates.”

Dr. Rhodora N. Englis, co-chair of the local task force and campus secretary of Mindanao State University-IIT, also updated principals and supervisors on the feeding program for malnourished children in piloted five schools of the city which is implemented by St. Michael’s College in partnership with Jollibee Foundation and other support groups.

Jollibee Foundation committed to feed pupils in four more elementary schools in the coming school year.

Last week, foundation representatives visited their school beneficiaries to monitor and evaluate the impact of their program.

Minnie Dalangin of Goodwill Mindanao, who is part of the task force, told supervisors and principals that they had trained 150 para-teachers from the college of education of MSU-IIT who would help improve the reading ability of pupils who fall within the frustration level.

Dalangin said that other than remedial reading they will involve the association of parents to truly capacitate them in supporting their children to pass elementary school.

These activities are supported by the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and the office of Congressman Vicente Belmonte of the first district of Iligan and Lanao del Norte.

Regarding Langyaw proposals sa Iligan Projects:
1. Iligan -Bukidnon Road Project - Toll Project .....lisod kaayo nga ma-implemintar, it
3. Materials Recovery Project - Privitized - Lisod - Walay tinood nga technical
5. Farm to Market Roads - CEO na ni nga trabaho

I agree. They have not fully addressed this problem yet. Despite the presence of those creeks, our city is still hampered by those floods because of our clogged waterways.

Beyond Manila: Off the beaten track

By Ed Biado

Travelers from the city are mostly influenced by the mainstream. There’s Boracay every summer, La Union for surfing and all the other middle-of-the-road destinations that have earned street cred. Then, there’s also the trends. When wakeboarding was the new “it” watersport a couple of years back, people were flocking to Lago de Oro. Today, it’s Camarines Sur. Let’s take the spotlight away from those places for a while and be reminded that the Philippines is also home to virtually untouched—all waiting to be traversed. Here are some ways to get off the beaten track:

1. Beyond Sagada. When traveling north, the farthest that most people go is Sagada. It obviously has its wholesome and not-so-wholesome charms that attract many Manileños. But what about what lies further north? For a real adventure, go deeper into the Cordilleras for more breathtaking landscapes and still-existing tribal cultures.

2. Beyond Bohol. Of course, there’s the Chocolate Hills. But off the island of Bohol, there are 73 other islands and there’s certainly a large fraction of that that’s isolated. To get the real deal, explore the smaller ones and venture deep within.

3. Beyond Dumaguete. Off the coast of this southern city is the island of Siquijor. Some parts of the island have relatively been tourist-friendly for quite some time now. But there are still a lot of untouched parts like white sand beaches, caves, mountains and reefs.

4. Beyond Batanes. Really hard places to get to, the northernmost islands of the Batanes province and Cagayan’s Babuyan Islands almost feel like they’re not in the Philippines anymore as they are actually closer to Taiwan. It’s a real adventure, thanks to the ruins, old structures and the low climate.

5. Beyond Subic. It’s safe to assume that everyone has been to Subic at least once. But have been around it? Anawagin Cove, a white sand beach, is only frequented by bona fide trekkers and very few others stumble upon it. It’s located in Barangay Pundaquit, town of San Antonio.

6. Within Iligan. The City of Majestic Waterfalls tag isn’t a baseless claim. Iligan City’s main tourist attraction is its waterfalls. One of the most beautiful of which—and one of the most secluded—is the Tinago Falls. As its name implies, it’s hidden in a deep ravine. It’s in Barangay Ditucalan and can be reached via the winding staircase, a 500-step descent.

7. Within Cebu. One of the more popular “off the beaten track” destinations in Visayas is the Kawasan Falls, three hours southwest of Cebu City. Its popularity has prompted locals to build gift shops and cottages. It may not be as secluded as one may hope, so it’s a perfect spot for those who aren’t that adventurous.

8. Within Palawan. The province is home to some enduring ethnolinguistic groups that live in remote tribes throughout the island. As much as many parts of Palawan have technically been explored, there are still virgin forests and shores on the main and surrounding smaller islands.

9. Within Camiguin. After you’ve visited all the recommended sites (i.e. volcanoes) in Camiguin, be sure to explore the path less traveled. You’ll be pleasantly rewarded with beaches and waterfalls all to your company’s private enjoyment.

10. Within Samar. One of Samar’s not-so-secret secrets is Viriato. It’s a village with a picturesque coastal road, amazing waterfalls, cliffs and mountains. You can also get off the island and navigate the waters to discover distant islands around it.

Just like here in UK most of the establishment have their own CCTV even on buses, trains, tube -- everywhere there is CCTV.

True, establishments need to secure their own places with those CCTVs as the city alone cannot just look into the establishments one by one for security. Although the city has already several wireless CCTVs around the city, those are only put on major thoroughfares and other secluded areas where police visibility is almost zero. Butuan mi-benchmark sa Citizens Charter sa Iligan
Thursday, 19 February 2009

(mta)

I have never seen anything in " Yahoo Travel " about Iligan City. It is as if it does not exist there although there are listings for Cagayan De Oro. I have tried to find out how to have something listed in Yahoo Travel that is not listed but have not been able to figure that out yet.

I wonder if it would be worthwhile to persue this ? With so much information here on SSC about Iligan it really deserves a place on Yahoo Travel.

If Yahoo Travel requires that you have an Airport to be listed in Yahoo Travel, you do have one although it may not be working at this time, it is still there and shows up nicely on Google Earth.

From what I have heard about the Iligan Airport is that due to its proximity to the mountains and visibility problems sometimes due to the weather make it difficult for aircraft to land there ? Also that there is no ILS or radar installed at this airport, have resulted in fatal air crashes there. I was advised not to use it even if it had opened when I last visited. Possibly someone here can clarify some of this information as it is info that was related to me by others.

I still think it would be nice if somehow there could be listings for Iligan City on Yahoo Travel. I have looked many times as to how to get something listed there but have never found the information.

It would be great to get a flight directly from Manila to Iligan.

Iligan artists perform Mindanao tales (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/regions/view/20090222-190306/Iligan-artists-perform-Mindanao-tales)

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines—Performances in over a hundred countries, a host of awards and worldwide recognition mark the stellar career of the Iligan Performing Arts Guild (Ipag).

For over 30 years, the homegrown cultural ensemble from Iligan City has enriched Philippine arts and theater in more ways than meets the eye. It has established itself as a successful professional performing arts company that has honed a generation of young artists.

But many of its followers believe that what it has truly accomplished is to build a bridge of cultural understanding from Mindanao to the world.

“The fact that we create understanding is in itself a contribution to the peace process,” says Steven “Tibo” C.P. Fernandez, founder and artistic director of Ipag.

“This may be our biggest contribution to our people … giving Mindanao a certain color of exotica. Bringing out the concerns of Mindanao and making our audience understand our differences in a positive way,” says Fernandez, who also wrote the book “Making Theatre: The Craft of the Stage.”

And how? In its regular world tours, Ipag performances were met with standing ovations and unexpected reactions from an audience who had heard only of Mindanao in news reports about war and kidnappings.

“The most appreciative audience we’ve encountered so far are the French. They will tail you anywhere you go, even to the bathroom, just so they could tell you how much they loved your performance,” Fernandez recounts.

Training ground

Ipag was born amid a raging Moro separatist war in Marawi City, within the scholarly corners of the Mindanao State University (MSU).

“Our family had to relocate to Marawi because my father was assigned there to help establish the College of Agriculture. It was a sudden change for me. From a very dynamic life in Manila, you find yourself in a place where it was common for men to carry guns in public,” Fernandez recounts how he began organizing the group.

“It was a complete transformation, from urban to Islamic rural setting … prayers in the evening, malong, brassware. I realized I was so ignorant,” he says.

The MSU was a world-apart from Islamic Marawi. The school was predominantly Christian, with more than half of its students and faculty non-Muslims. Still, Fernandez, then already teaching English, saw the school as a bridge for Christian-Muslim understanding.

As the war escalated and the political scene more chaotic, Fernandez and his friend, fellow Manileña Ligaya Fernando Amilbangsa, pushed through with their project of staging productions at school.

“We had very simple aims then, like have a string of regular productions, and somehow the elements came into place,” Fernandez says.

Soon enough, Ipag became a training ground for young talents looking for productive outlets of their idealism through the performing arts.

According to Fernandez, the early experiences of Ipag in Marawi were itself good subjects of storytelling.

“We nearly missed several ambushes along the road. One time, a few seconds after passing a bridge from Marawi to Iligan, the bridge was burned. Everyone had to evacuate to Iligan when the war intensified. So that’s why there’s the MSU-IIT (Iligan Institute of Technology) as extension school,” he says.

But amid this backdrop, Ipag flourished, its productions sought across Mindanao and, eventually, Manila.

Hobart Savior, an Ipag alumnus, recalls the group’s first stint in the Big City.

“We were there at the CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines) hobnobbing with other popular artists, like Harlene Bautista and Romnick Sarmenta. I was star-struck, but someone told me not to be too anxious because we were all artists there,” Savior says.

Now the head of the cultural arts departments of the Xavier University and Ateneo de Manila University, Savior considers himself fortunate to have found Ipag.

“My talent and character were honed by Ipag. It had been an excellent training ground for artists like myself,” he says.

All about Mindanao

Fernandez says Ipag presents through its plays and dances not one but three cultures—Christian, Moro or Muslim and indigenous peoples’.

Since its inception, the group has performed 40 full-act plays created by Fernandez. The “Tales from Mindanao,” a fusion of 10 or more dances masterfully woven together to form a dramatic assemblage of theatric performance, has so far been the most popular and widely acclaimed.

“We wanted something modular, something we can put together in no time, like an ‘instant’ performance. That’s why we created Tales from Mindanao, which tells of our culture and traditions,” Fernandez says.

In a recent performance to commence the national arts month celebration held at the Xavier gymnasium in Cagayan de Oro City, Ipag’s “monkey dance” was the most applauded.

“Yes, many of our audience even abroad appreciate that story which is actually a subtle satire of our character as Filipinos. But you see, different audiences give entirely different interpretations of our plays,” Fernandez says.

“Tales from Mindanao” also features intricate performances that highlight the beauty of local traditional dances, like the Maranao tribe’s singkil and the Higaonon tribe’s courtship dance.

Another well-applauded dance is one that tells of the legend of the famous tourist spot in Iligan, the Maria Cristina Falls.

This is where Ipag’s relevance comes into place, says Fernandez. From the colorful and intricately designed traditional costumes to the stories that each performance tells, the audience is compelled to see what Mindanao really is.

“Because you know, to be hyperbolic, a lot of other people still think … people in Mindanao, do they have tails?” Fernandez says in proudly declaring what Ipag has achieved in three decades.

:ohno:

I've never heard about Aerolift before... pero naa silay isa ka turbo prob na Beechcraft B-1900C nakitan nku sa internet.. (walay pics noon)
Beechcraft B-1900C

hayzz.. those are good days of Iligan... convenient mag travel sa una both land, air and sea...

Na-crash gyud tong Aerolift in 1992 mao nang nawala sila. Yes, they use Beechcraft planes according to Wikipedia on Aerolift_Philippines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerolift_Philippines)
@langyaw & TONZI

thanks sa info bai... pero mu apil pa mi ana ug seminar ug interview..? I mean, first time pa namu mag loan... basin kailangan pa ug minimum deposit before ma approve ang loan...?

Sa MSUIIT MPC where I was formerly a member, you have to attend a membership seminar and after paying the initial loan, another seminar for you to be able to make a bigger loan plus an amount to add in your savings and share capital passbooks depending on the amount.

Another cooperative is the AIM (of Aurora, ZDN) MPC which has a branch located at Mikaela's Arcade Tibanga.

Sa AIM Coop, membership seminar lang and then no more seminars on succeeding loans.

Mas kuti ang MSUIIT Coop ron, ang major issue lang sa IIT COOP is their SUnshine/Damayan loan which you have to pay up to the retirement age at Php 80.00 a month.

Sa AIM Coop, you will only pay the one time Damayan payment of Php 500.00
and a membership fee of P100.00 . YOur initial would be 3,000 plus and then you can repay it right away and be able to apply for the bigger loan right away too. And, by the way, just like IIT MPC, add/deposit a certain amount on you account depending on the amount of your loan.

The government should implement a tough punishment to those resident who throw their rubbish everywhere. That is so nasty and disgusting.....
The main priority of the baranggay officials of that area is to get rid of those
rubbish. Do they need to educate the people how to disposed their rubbish properly? I guess not, its just a basic thing to do.
There is so much going on with the beautification project in the city but does it work? what about those areas like saray, cabili and etc?
Am glad you post these pic. What will happen to our marine resources with these? Do you still enjoy eating seafood after these? I heard some resident doesn't have toilets in that area. They just dig a hole on the shore sometimes not. My goodness me, i personally cant stand these...................
I know there are a lot of concern citizen in that area but they need the help of the local officials. They should form a green party who will protect our resources because that is where we get our basic commodities as well.

My compliment to those who post these pic.

Iligan City, Philippines

I am wondering why Iligan City, Philippines is no where to be found on Yahoo Travel ? I have visited Iligan City more than once and found it to be a very interesting place to visit. Iligan City has quite a number of natural and man made attractions, Hotels, restaurants of all kinds including Fine Dining, Beaches, a brand new Shopping Mall in addition to hundreds of smaller shops and businesses that I found to be of interest. There are many well known educational facllities in Iligan City such as MSU-ITT University, LaSalle School and many more.

I have found Iligan to be a peaceful city with a lot to offer. I am surprised a place such as this has been overlooked by Yahoo Travel. There are many other websites with references and features pertaining to Iligan City. Why not Yahoo Travel ?

----------------------------

I have posted reviews on other websites but have never been able to find any place on Yahoo Travel to post anything about Iligan City. I don't know how many people use Yahoo Travel but there seems to be activity on it.

Here is a link to the page on Yahoo Travel where I made the post. Lets see what happens !

Everytime I heard the place Saray, I always think of "filthy" things. I'm just wondering why the authorities can't get rid of these rubbish. Not just the shoreline but even the roadside is disgustingly dirty. Aside from being dirty, saray is also known for illegal drug activities(?). Iligan, gipili sa CSC nga modelong siyudad batok Red Tape

Friday, 20 February 2009

Kagahapong adlawa, personal nga gipaabot kini nga kalambo-an ni Atty.

(mta)

Taipan to invest over $700 million in hydro power plants (http://http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=442603&publicationSubCategoryId=66)
By Donnabelle L. Gatdula Updated February 23, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - One of the country’s taipans is planning to invest over $700 million to put up hydro power facilities in Luzon and Mindanao, well-placed industry sources said.

“A group of investors, including a taipan, is putting up hydro power plants in several locations in Luzon and Mindanao,” the sources said yesterday.

They said the consortium is now in the process of conducting land surveys in preparation for the construction of a 332-megawatt (MW) hydro power facility in Luzon.

This capacity, the sources said, could be expanded up to another 300 MW.

According to sources, the taipan really wants to take an active role in the government’s effort to develop renewable energy (RE) sources.

“Hydro power is clean and renewable,” the sources said, when asked why the taipan chose to build a hydro power facility.

There are over 40 indicative hydro power projects that are listed in the Department of Energy’s Philippine Energy Plan (PEP) which will generate 1,025 MW.

The Metro Luzon Urban Beltway and Mindanao regions host the bulk of the potential projects with a total capacity of 368 MW and 369.8 MW, respectively.

The biggest indicative project based on the PEP is the 360 MW expansion of CBK Power of the Kalayaan Pumped Power Storage in Laguna which is expected to be completed in 2011.

Another huge hydro power project expected to be completed in 2011 is the Salug Daku hydro power plant in Saguiaran, Lanao del Norte.

The PEP indicated that there are already 14 hydro power projects with feasibility studies all over the country. These projects are estimated to provide an additional 255.2 MW to the country’s hydro power capacity.

The projects are being undertaken by various developers. These are: Solutions Using Renewable Energy (SURE); Province of Biliran; PNOC-EDC/Soluziona, Chase Makros Management Inc. (CMMI); Benguet Power Resources Development Corp.’ First Gen Visayas Hydro Power Corp.; and the Sta. Clara Power Corp.

The DOE noted that two of these projects will proceed to the construction phase. These are: Colasi in Mercedez, Camarines Norte; and Sipangpang in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur projects with a potential capacity of 1 MW each. Both projects are expected to be completed this year.

For me God fearing man si Cruz but there are problems on the streets that are not readily addressed by the departments which he has good grasp. Perhaps, these offices/departments are not readily following him.

One of those is the CEO who is the main office assigned for road maintenance, lighting system and traffic system.

I wonder who's under th Civil Security Unit (CSU)? coz I have seen alot of overspeeding during the day and specially at night nga wala gyud ma reprimand or ma apprehend. Ka-familiar mo anang "black MITSUBISHI Lancer GSR with plate number CNN 448" ? Notorious na gyud kaayo ning driver ani nga sakyanan kay wala gyu'y naka- badlong ana og overspeeding sa mga school zones and at night overspeeding sa mga crowded places like Petron Tibanga and Darren's where people flock to have a good time. Dili ra man gud ni once niya gibuhat, kadaghan na. Does anybody have connection to the LTO? kinsa kahay tag-iya ana.

Naa man ta'y security sa gabii kay naa may nga police sa Cebuana Llhuilier sa Quezon Ave. pero dili man gud na part sa ila trabaho ang traffic violation. I hope naa gyud ma-assign nga Traffic Enforcer at night to apprehend these speeding violators.

ARMM Student Says, 'Yes, I Can!' (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=442279&publicationSubCategoryId=90)
By Geoffrey Elliot Morrison Updated February 22, 2009 12:00 AM

http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/8995/wik5.jpg

MANILA, Philippines - The youngest of five children born to a farming family in the municipality of Sultan Kudarat, Abdulkahar Canda Usop learned early on that getting ahead in life would depend on hard work and determination. He saw how his parents struggled to provide for the family on their small tract of land in a conflict-affected rural town.

But Kahar never let go of his dreams to become an artist or an engineer. He believed that all he needed was a chance to show what he was made of.

“In our community, I hear hindi and hindi mo kaya (no, and no you can’t) all the time. I tell myself I have to turn hindi ko kaya (I can’t) into kaya ko ito (yes, I can),” Kahar says. “Otherwise I would be disappointing not just myself but my family, too.”

His siblings, two of whom became contract workers in Saudi Arabia, had set an example for him by completing their education on scholarships. Eventually Kahar, who excelled in his studies, was accepted at the Amir Bara Lidasan NHS-ARMM Regional Science High School in Parang, Maguindanao.

Amir Bara Lidasan is one of only 17 public high schools in the country – and the only one in the ARMM – which follow the Department of Education’s regional science high school curriculum, emphasizing English, math and the sciences.

Even so, Amir Bara’s intellectually gifted students, Kahar among them, lacked the most basic information technology (IT) skills, as the school had no computers for their use. “Almost none of our 1,500 students had ever handled a PC before,” recalls principal Myrna Buhay-Lidasan.

In 2004, the school was provided with computers, software, training and internet access by the US Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program, through its Computer Literacy and Internet Connection (CLIC) project.

More than 700 high schools and elementary schools in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao have to date participated in the project, benefiting more than 500,000 students and more than 16,000 teachers. Approximately 900 schools will receive CLIC assistance from the GEM Program over the next four years.

Like sponges in water, the students and teachers of Amir Bara began soaking up the vast resources of the Internet, working with different programs and downloading data and software to enhance their projects and classroom instruction. They also made friends online, learning about other places and ways of life.

“My dream of having a computer-literate school was answered, and we could connect to the world,” says Buhay-Lidasan, who encouraged her students to seek out scholarships and study programs.

Kahar applied to join the Youth Exchange and Study Program of AFS (formerly the American Field Service), which offers international exchange programs in more than 40 countries around the world.

In line with AFS’s three-step, merit-based evaluation process, he was asked to submit a research project with his application.

“The evaluation panel commended me on my Internet research and PowerPoint presentation,” he says. “The hands-on experience of CLIC helped open doors for me and my classmates.”

Kahar was granted a year-long stay as an AFS exchange student in the United States.

His destination was Vancouver (pop. 164,000), the county seat of Clark County in the state of Washington, where his host parents were Paul and Bernadette Gerhardt. It was a wholly different world from the one he knew in Maguindanao.

He quickly settled into student life at Skyview High School, where teachers remember his easy-going manner and eagerness to learn.

“He smiled all the time and cracked jokes with his classmates,” says graphic design teacher Valerie Darling in an email. “He loved using computers and would ask me a hundred questions. He wanted to squeeze all the information he could get in the one year he was at our school, and I found that very touching.”

“US schools are computer-based and everyone uses laptops in class, but even though I had fewer IT skills than my classmates, I could catch up because I already had some background,” says Kahar.

“Kahar was a hard-working, respectful, talented student,” recalls another teacher, Nancy Wistrand. “He worked well with his video production teammates and I truly enjoyed having him in class.”

His American host mother Bernie, an Ilocana by birth, was an enthusiastic community volunteer. She invited him to “give something back” to Vancouver by joining her in civic work during weekends.

Kahar delivered Christmas presents to children in out-of-home care and volunteered at overnight shelters for the homeless. He played baseball with substance abuse victims and chatted with veterans at a home for the aged.

“That looked better than our house back in Mindanao, and the abandoned children looked healthier than some of my younger cousins,” he recalls. “But I felt at home with them.”

At the 2006 Clark County Youth Achievement Celebration, which had as its theme “The Difference You Make is Infinite,” Kahar Usop received an award for his community service.

He and Bernie were invited to a reception where they met Washington State Governor Chris Gregoire, who spoke with Kahar about his year at Skyview and his life back home in Simuay.

Now a 20-year-old chemical engineering student on a full scholarship at Mindanao State University’s Iligan Institute of Technology – and nurturing a new dream, to become a multimedia artist – Kahar believes that his year as an exchange student affected his life on many levels.

“It totally changed the way I see the world,” he says. “It made me independent and I feel that I can do anything now. We are blessed when helping hands enable us to succeed in turning a negative into a positive.”

maybe you've met him already in the campus

Their actions and d way dey lead Iligan. Bsan man lay naa tay maiprovide n bed sheet s ila. The gov n d mayor has no dynamic relationship 4 d benefits of both d prov n city. Bt soon by faith, Iligan wil b change.

Lanao governor sets agriculture strategies (http://www.mb.com.ph/AGRI20090223148522.html)

When a US-educated young man becomes the governor of his province, expect him to do a business-like approach in developing agriculture and fisheries in his territory. Just like Mohammad Khalid Q. Dimaporo, 29, who became Lanao del Norte’s youngest governor two years ago.

Mohammad finished a masteral degree in international development economics from the University of San Francisco and had also enrolled for his PhD in agricultural economics at the Texas A & M, one of the most prestigious universities in the US. He can be expected, therefore, to focus on the development of agriculture and fisheries, considering his educational background.

Lanao is a resource-rich province but a lot has to be done to develop them to give the people a decent source of livelihood. What are his projects?

After assessing the strong and weak points of his province, he saw the potentials of putting up a mariculture park in Moro Gulf, particularly in Sultan Naga Dimaporo town (formerly Karomatan). There, with the collaboration of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, a 700-hectare mariculture park was launched with the initial installation of two commercial cages for bangus culture. They will also grow other high-value species. The production is financed by the government. He first wants to show that such a project could be profitable and that will encourage private investors to come in.

The mariculture park has a section for small-scale fisherfolk who don’t have big capital to invest. Here BFAR is helping them to undertake less-capital intensive projects such as raising oysters, sea urchin, seaweed and abalone. These are high-value marine products.

Another important project that the young governor has started is the establishment of a grains processing center with the help of the Department of Agriculture. The National Agribusiness Corporation is helping the province in putting up a P60-million corn processing center. For rice, the province is investing P15 million for dryers, ricemills and other facilities.

The grains processing center, according to Dimaporo, will empower the farmers. He pointed out that Lanao del Norte is a big producer of rice and corn but lacks processing facilities. He said that traders from other provinces go to buy the newly harvested rice and corn from his province because there are not enough processing facilities.

The grains processing center could serve as a clearing house. Production of these cereals could be consolidated for more efficient marketing.

The province is also investing in alternative fuel production involving jatropha and coconut. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has committed P30-60 million for the project with a provincial counterpart of P120 million loaned from the Municipal Development Fund Office. Now in its nursery stage, the jatropha project aims to plant at least 1,000 hectares in the interior areas of the province not used for food production.

Lanao del Norte is a big producer of coconuts and part of the harvest could be allocated to biofuel production. Right now the Philippine Coconut Authority is also introducing high-yielding varieties for planting in the province to augment production.

Meanwhile the agriculture projects initiated by his father, Congressman Abdulla Dimaporo, continue. One of them is a big dairy project of more than 2,000 milk animals from New Zealand. The milk produced is currently used in the milk feeding program of the Department of Education.

Definitely wala narehistro sa Cagayan de Oro (K) or Gen. Santos (M), not even Cebu (G,Y).

That vehicle is registered at San Fernando, Pampanga.

RP scientists get pointers from Taiwan

By Abigail L. Ho
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 00:46:00 02/23/2009

MANILA, Philippines--Filipino scientists under the country’s Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT) program have touched base with technology firms in Taiwan in a bid to strike cooperation agreements and discuss new technologies.

According to the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, an 18-person team from the ERDT program recently visited high-tech firms in the Hsinchu Science Park, including the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), National Applied Research Laboratories, National Nano Device Laboratories, Systems on Chip Center at the National Chiao Tung University Innovation Incubation Center and the Tsing Hua University Incubation Center.

The ITRI is a research organization tasked with boosting Taiwan’s competitiveness in industrial technology, while the National Applied Research and Nano Device Laboratories are agencies of Taiwan’s Instrument Technology Research Center.

The ERDT team was led by Science and Technology Undersecretary Fortunato Dela Peña and UP College of Engineering Dean Rowena Guevarra.

The group’s visit to Taiwan was in line with the ERDT’s plan to put up a new Technology Business Incubator within the year.

President Macapagal-Arroyo approved the ERDT program in April 2007 and gave it P3.5 billion in funds for three years.

The program covers eight local universities--the University of the Philippines-Diliman, University of the Philippines-Los Baños, De La Salle University, Mapua Institute of Technology, Ateneo de Manila University, Mindanao State University-Iligan, University of San Carlos and Central Luzon State University--that offer graduate degrees in different engineering fields.

Iligan-Bukidnon road, pagatrabaho-on sa upat ka kontraktor
Tuesday, 24 February 2009

(boy decena)

DTI Iligan alerts consumers to help monitor LPG price and cylinders quality (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=12&fi=p090225.htm&no=21)

Iligan City -- In spite of government efforts to thwart unscrupulous businesspeople, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Iligan City reminds consumers to be vigilant and do their own inspection of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders before accepting them into their homes.

Provincial Director Ruel B. Paclipan of DTI Iligan, said they work with the Department of Energy (DOE) in monitoring the supply and price of LPG.

The DOE reported that an 11-kilogram LPG tank costs approximately P500-P595 in Metro Manila as of 11 February 2009.

"We are directed at the provincial level to include the 11-kg. LPG cylinders in our monitoring, not just to check on prices but to inspect whether or not the cylinders underwent the mandatory testing and bear the Philippine Standard (PS) license or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC)", expressed Paclipan.

He further explained, the DTI-Bureau of Product Standards (BPS) led the development of the Philippine National Standard (PNS) on LPG an cylinder, that is to assure the buying public of safe and quality LPG cylinders in the market.

Also, the DTI-BPS supplements the monitoring and enforcement activities of the DTI's regional and provincial offices on establishments to inspect if they only sell cylinders that conform to the requirements of the standard.

Likewise, DTI-BPS regulates the said product through its Product Certification Scheme, wherein all LPG cylinder manufacturers, importers, and distributors are required to have their products tested at the BPS Testing Center or at any BPS-accredited or recognized laboratory prior to sale of distribution, Paclipan added.

DTI has warned traders not to take advantage of the current situation, thus, the government will file cases against retailers that are caught overpricing and hoarding.

DENR-10 allocates P1-M for Iligan's Agro-forestry dev't project (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=12&fi=p090225.htm&no=20)

Iligan City -- Under the emergency fund of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 10, One Million pesos is being allocated as an immediate response to farmers affected by the flashfloods in January this year within the two watersheds of Mandulog and Iligan Rivers, this city.

Mamacaya M. Lucman, community environment and natural resources officer (CENRO), DENR-Iligan City Office, said that huge damage to agricultural crops has greatly affected the farmers especially those residing and cultivating within these two watersheds where the mainstreams were discharging bulk of water from heavy and continuous precipitation for several days during the first two weeks of the year.

Lucman said the amount intended to the 30-hectare Agro-forestry development project would benefit the two Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) sites located within the Mandulog River Watershed.

The two people's organization namely, the Tawagon Farmers Multi-purpose Cooperative (TAFAMCO) composed of 11 farmers with 27 households, and Caribao Mainit Integrated Farmers Association (CMIFA) comprising 12 farmers with 169 households.

Meanwhile, the DENR Central Office has approved an amount of PhP840,000.00 under the DENR-CARP (Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program) Fund for Pantar CBFM Debvelopment Project to be implemented in the upstream portion of Iligan River Watershed specifically located at Sitio Bago-a Ingud, Barangay Sundiga Punod, town of Pantar, Lanao del Norte, revealed Lucman.

Under the CARP-Funded Project, the Bago-a Ingud Pantar Integrated Multi-Purpose Cooperative has 51 members with 42 households, said Lucman.

He said further, the actual area development or project implementation would commence within the week right after the signing of contract, project launching, and the subsequent release of 15 percent mobilization fund.

These three concerned CBFM-POs had already been mobilizing especially in canvassing quality farm inputs like certified seeds, grafted fruit tree seedlings, fertilizers, and others. The area development for the emergency funded project should be fully accomplished by the end of March 2009, Lucman explained.

The above mentioned farmers' organizations are expected to sustain and manage these projects for possible replications using the income to be generated from these projects, Lucman disclosed.

(mta)

Wow! Good news eto.

Mayor Cruz mopang-apod-apod sa Replica sa Pasidungog nga nadawat sa siyudad isip 2nd Best POC
Wednesday, 25 February 2009

(mta)

I received a complimentary Compact Disc of the Octava Choral Society on my last visit to MSU-IIT. I especially like " Iligan March ". I first heard it on Youtube where someone in Iligan sync'd it to pics of Iligan and did a comeback with a version 2. Someday I will get a near full translation of all of the words although I have been able to figure out some of it so far. Someday I look forward to seeing " OCS " perform live. 15-year-old female Iliganon becomes Philippine’s youngest indie film director (http://www.goldstardailynews.com/content.php?sectionid=4&id=1522)
DANTE SUDARIA

TWO representatives from Northern Mindanao won big in the recently-held Cinema Rehiyon.

Shaun Alejandrae Yap Uy (Cagayan de Oro) and Tzaddi Esguerra (Iligan), won several awards including Best Short Film and Best Director for the North Mindanao leg of the festival last January at the SM City CDO cinemas, dubbed as Cinemagis. The Northern Mindanao leg was organized by one of the country’s truer advocates of arts and culture – Hobart Savior. Savior is the Director for Culture and Arts Office of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan University. He is also a part of the delegation as the curator for the Cinemagis films. Esguerra is the youngest of all the delegates, and perhaps the whole country. At 15, she studies at the MSU-IIT Integrated Development School in Iligan City.

There were three films that formed part of the Northern Mindanao repertoire: Kasing-kasing Amang written and directed by Uy, Kiss the Rain directed by Esguerra and Window of Dreams (Cinemagis – Best Original Sound winner) directed by Rosalie Zerrudo of Camiguin.

This spectrum of films from Cagayan de Oro and Northern Mindanao is unified by the variety of their narratives and techniques. The City of Golden Friendship reveals itself as a diverse community adapting to change and development, stressing its sameness with the other regions of the Philippines. This tendency suggests a plausible future for regional cinema – one which is more Philippine than regional, in which the boundaries are more geographical than aesthetic.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) together with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) celebrate the Philippine International Arts Festival 2009 dubbed as “Ani ng Sining”. The month-long celebration showcases the various cultural art forms of the entire Philippine Islands. One of the components of the celebration is the celebration of regional cinema with the first ever Cinema Rehiyon: Alter Nativo (Films from the other Philippines) from February 18 – 21, 2009 at the Tanghalang Manuel Conde, CCP (also known as the Dream Theater).

“Cinema Rehiyon is a project that truly embodies the aims of the NCCA: The National Development of Culture and Arts that encourages artistic creation from the grassroots level. This initiative is in line with our vision to democratize the right to culture,” says Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, executive director of NCCA.

“Cinema Rehiyon stitches together a cinematic quilt of the individual experiences and unique cultures of filmmakers from Bacolod, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao and Naga,” adds Nestor Jardin, president and artistic director of CCP.

The series kicked off in Davao last December then moved on to Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Naga, and Baguio.

“In all the festivals, it has been very heartwarming to see and witness the enthusiastic response and support of both the filmmakers and audiences for many have expressed in our various workshops, forums, and discussions their realizations and appreciation for the cultural value of cinema,” says Dr. Mike Rapatan, NCCA chair-committee on cinema.

“Cinema Rehiyon is the first national film festival that aims to showcase the works of emerging filmmakers outside of Metro Manila,” adds Gabby Fernandez, the festival director.

On Valentines Day Jollibee " New York " opened its doors to thousands of eagerly waiting Filipino and Americans in Woodside Queens, New York ( a bourough ( similar to Barangay ) of New York City. )

As part of its worldwide expansion this is the very first Jollibee to open on the east coast of the United States. The very few other Jollibee locations in the USA are thousands of miles away from New York.

The long line of eager Jollibee patrons went around the block and some waited over 4 hours to get in on opening day. There are many thousands of Filipinos that now live in the USA and Jollibee has plans to open more Jollibee locations in areas with high Filipino populations.

Co-Workers at my job have heard me talk about Jollibee for the past few years and now they will have the opportunity to go to a real Jollibee and try it for themselves.

Even though Jollibee has come half way around the world to me, my all time favorite Jollibee location will be the first one I ever visited, Jollibee Tibanga, Iligan City !

It will be a while before I get a chance to try the New York Jollibee as it is about an hour and a half drive from my house and " in the City ". I live in the suburbs of New York CIty. Check out " Jollibee New York " on youtube and it will give you a better idea of the massive crowds still trying out the newest attraction in New York LOL. When I do try the New York Jollibee I will be certain to take my camera with me.

Jollibee, Tibanga, Iligan City is the first Jollibee I ever went to. In fact it was the very first place I went to in Iligan after checking in at a hotel. Jollibee Tibanga Iligan will always have more significance to me than any other Jollibee location. From first seeing it here on SSC and then 2 years later actually sitting in it eating Jolli-burgers is an unforgettable feeling that is difficult to duplicate ! Now I look forward to trying Jollibee Gaisano, Iligan on my next visit hopefully later this year !

Even though Jollibee has come half way around the world to me, my all time favorite Jollibee location will be the first one I ever visited, Jollibee Tibanga, Iligan City !

Gud Morning Iligan.... hehe

There are more than 1 million Filipino living in th USA. Some as OFW's, many as permanent legal residents which are also known as Filipino-Americans ( Fil-AM ). Additionally children born to Husband and Wife that came from the Philippines are born here as citizens of the USA but in reality have the background and heritage of being Filipino. There are many Filipino American social and business associations here as well.

Something that makes the USA the unique place that it is, is that it is made up of people from everywhere else in the world who migrated here for many reasons. When they cane to this country they brought with them their respective heritage, culture and customs which over several generations have been shared with others.

With all due respect, after researching Jollibee Foods Corporation and being able to experience it in its home country, I consider Jollibee to be modern day Philippine Culture which was brought here by the people of The Philippines to share with everyone here regardless of their ancestory and culture.

Why do I have such an interest in Jollibee ? If it were not for Jollibee I may have never come to visit Iligan or the Philippines in the first place. When I began learning about Iligan City and The Philippines ( some of which was right here on SSC-Iligan ) the more AI learned and saw of Iligan, the more desire I had to come and visit.

I had never been to your part of the world so I had to find out more particulars about going there.
It was strongly recommended that I go to a Trafvel Doctor to get vaccinated against certain things that do not exist here. I was prescribed preventative pills to take for malaria ( they cost me $200 USD too ). I was given a massive amount of " advisories " of things to avoid so as not to become ill from foods and drink in a tropical climate. Now it's not that the food there may be " bad " but there could easily be certain bacteria, virus, etc. that does not exist here. Being exposed or ingesting unfamiliar bacteria, germs, virus etc for the first time can make someone quite ill as they have never been exposed to it and have no resistance to it.

After reading through all of these " advisories " it really made me wonder that if I were to make the long journey to see Iligan City if I would have to bring an additional suitcase with 2 weeks of my own food in it. To me that just would not make for a good vacation as I had seen so much interesting looking Filipino Food on the internet. I felt I had to find a near " failsafe " place to eat in case local food in Iligan did not agree with me.

After seeing pictures of Jollibee Tibanga right here on SSC-Iligan, I began to websearch for any information I could find out about it. The Jollibee website showed the entire menu and I knew I could survive on all of that for two weeks and well beyond. Reasearching Jollibee Foods Corp indicated that this was no " johnny come lately " flash in the pan business. I had an internet chat witha a former Jollibee Manager who told me just how fussy and demanding Jollibee is about the food they serve and the conditions under which it was prepared.

Now I knew I had a failsafe place for food that I could rely on 100 per cent if need be, and my plans to visit Iligan City continued.

I later learned from a well known American who has lived in several parts of Mindanao for many years that if I used plain common sense I should not have any problem with eating just about anything in The Philippines. For the first few days I was in Iligan I ate nothing but Jollibee and it felt like one of the greatest places I had ever been to. I introduced myself to the manager who was on duty at the time. The service was great and all of the staff so very polite and accomodating. The place was very clean and inviting regardless of how busy it was and it really gave me an " at home " feeling being in Jollibee Tibanga and I dont think there are too many fast food places that can give you a feeling like that. So for those that may not have understood my affection for Jollibee, thats my story !

Iliganons meet to collaborate on disaster response (http://www.mindanews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=6000&Itemid=50)
MindaNews
Sunday, 01 March 2009

ILIGAN CITY -- Representatives of government and non-governmental organizations met this afternoon to discuss and strengthen collaboration in disaster response.

This city and the neighboring towns in Lanao del Norte experienced disasters in 2008 -- the outbreak of hostilities in the wake of the collapse of the GRP-MILF peace talks in August, followed by the bombings of stores and approaching 2009, floods affecting low-lying areas of the city.

Efforts of both government and civil society to respond to the needs of the disaster victims were heroic, but flawed owing to very weak collaboration among the different agencies and organizations.

Collaboration was the reason behind the Disaster Preparedness Forum held at the Social Hall of the Redemptorists here this afternoon. The forum was organized by the Action Group Against People's Exploitation (AGAPE), a loose network of non-goverrnment organizations (NGOs), church groups and schools in the city.

AGAPE members saw the need for these agencies to come together to evaluate their efforts and thus the forum was organized to work towards a greater collaboration.

"We know that the NGOs have little regard for us in terms of our responses to the needs of the victims of calamities, but we can say that we do our best and we wish there could be more collaboration with them,” Pearly Mantos of the Iligan City Social Welfare Department (CSWD) told some 50 participants of the Disaster Preparedness Forum held at the Social Hall of the
Redemptorists here this afternoon.

Pacificador Lluch Jr., Iligan City Administrator and chair of the Iligan City Disaster Coordinating Council (ICDCC), expressed his wish for more collaboration between government and civil society in responding to the needs of those affected by natural and man-made disasters.

As head of the ICDCC, he said he looks forward to more involvement of civil society organizations in the Council.

"The City has shifted its attention now to a disaster prevention perspective," he told the audience.

Even as City Hall will continue responding to disaster victims, Lluch said there will be more initiatives in terms of minimizing the occurrence of disasters in the city.

Bishop Elenito Galido, Fr. Albert Mendez of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Iligan, Luther Autor of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines and Adona Orquillas of the Ranaw Disaster Response and Rehabilitation Assistance Center constituted the panel that discussed the issues related to disaster response along with Mantos and Lluch.

As a result of the forum, AGAPE's Secretariat Committee will pursue more discussion with the ICDCC on how to concretize the intent at a stronger collaboration. This will also involve getting Moro stakeholders to also play key roles in the Council.

"We are pleased with gatherings such as this since it provides a forum where government, Church, NGOs, school heads and others can discuss issues affecting our people while moving towards greater collaboration," said Bishop Galido at the end of the forum.

Big boost for tennis (http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/?page=sports6_feb28_2009)
By Anthony Suntay

TENNIS will definitely be on the upswing now with the inauguration of the Tennis Academy of the Philippines Foundation Inc. and the TAPF Wellness Center, which aims to develop and train the most promising and talented players in the country to make them at par with the rest of the world.

According to TAPF managing director Manny Tecson, former Philippine Davis Cup team captain, the Academy was created as a foundation by Rep. Romeo Jalosjos to provide continuous funding support to deserving tennis scholars and to sustain its grassroots programs in search of would-be tennis champions for the country in international competitions.

The TAPF strongly believes that Filipino players—when given the same opportunity as with their foreign counterparts in terms of training and financial support—will definitely excel in the international tennis circuit. Tecson said tennis players from the marginalized sector of society will greatly benefit from the foundation, which offers free training and coaching with top-class coaches and hitting partners.

Qualified scholars, he added, will receive free education, board and lodging in the TAPF’s recently completed athletic dormitory and a monthly allowance for their personal expenses. The Academy will regularly monitor the training and performances of each scholar after which the most deserving will compete in tournaments abroad with the expenses to be shouldered by TAPF.

Currently, there are five scholars being supported by Jalosjos under TAPF, which include 15-year-old Jeson Patrombon of Iligan City, who emerged champion in a recent Singapore tennis competition. The scholars are all being housed at the TAPF at Katarungan Village in Muntinlupa City and their formal education and allowances taken care of by Jalosjos.

Meanwhile, Jalosjos and Fil-Estate chairman Bob Sobrepeña joined forces earlier to come up with the TAPF-Fil-Estate Sports Foundation merger to develop tennis in the Philippines and bring it to greater heights. The merger means better training programs, more coaches for players, up-to-date equipment and world-class facilities at Manila Southwoods that will be developed soon as a training center that can be promoted and marketed abroad as the place to train and stay when in Asia.

The TAPF has announced that it will hold a tennis summer camp at the Southwoods this coming April which is open to all players of all ages and skills.

In May, a free roving clinic will be held in the Visayas and Mindanao. As of to date, several applicants for scholarships have been received from players in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro who will converge in Dakak resort in Zamboanga del Norte for evaluation and recommendation.

An Overview of All Nursing Schools in Iligan City

Mindanao Sanitarium and Hospital-College of Medical Arts Foundation Incorporated

Also known as MSH-CMAFI, this college primarily focuses on Medicine and Health Services. The school is located on Pinesville Street, right behind Mindanao Sanitarium and Hospital, beside the highway going to Cagayan de Oro City. The campus includes a cafeteria and a mini-mart and because the hospital is just beside it, the students can choose to be exposed to different hospital areas at their own convenience.

Iligan Medical Center College

Like MSH-CMAFI, this college also focuses on Medicine and Health Services. Located at Pala-o, the school is situated away from the hustle and bustle of the city where students can benefit from the serenity of the environment. Just beside the school, the Medical Center Hospital also offers the students the exposure and experience needed for different areas in nursing.

Lyceum of Iligan Foundation College

Situated at Tubod, Lyceum first opened its doors to the general public in June 1997. On June 2002, Associate in Health Science Education / Bachelor of Science in Nursing (AHSE/BSN) was offered in the college offering complete laboratory facilities to cater the needs of the. Being committed to excellence, Lyceum strives to continuously improve itself as the years continue.

Mindanao State University-College of Nursing

Acknowledged as one of the best universities in Philippines, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) is located at Barangay Tibanga, Iligan City, Philippines. The College of Nursing just started in 2006 and produced its first batch of top-notchers for the Nursing Licensure Exam in June 2007.

St. Michael’s College

St. Michael’s College is known as the oldest school in the area. It was formally established in 1915 as Escuela de San Miguel in honor of the patron saint, St. Michael the Archangel. It has an active bid to become the city’s first Private Catholic University. The College of Nursing produced the top 6 board exam taker for June 2008 Nursing Licensure Exam. Currently, SMC is expanding its infrastructures to support the growing needs of the academic community.

So if you are thinking about taking up a nursing course or probably wondering what Nursing School to send your kids to, look no more. Iligan City produces the most competent, qualified and world-class nurses that the world needs today.
