Why buy bottled water when you could be swimming in it ? This is one of the finest all natural spring water recreational facilities I have ever seen. Cold, natural crystal clear, unadulterated, unprocessed, and ever changing spring water in the many pools at Timoga Park are just the way nature intended it to be providing a most refreshing alternative to a hot summer day.

There are separate pools of various shapes, sizes and depths to acomodate those of all ages, shapes and sizes. For those who have not yet learned to swim or for those a bit reluctant to exhibit their swimming " style " , professional lessons are available for beginners and advanced swimmers alike by certified instructors. This facility is most acomodating to indviduals, couples, families and large groups with mulit level covered pavilions overlooking the pools and the all natural surroundings. There is always an aboundace of " beautiful Scenery " in and around the pools as well. Bring your own food or enjoy some of the great food available at the refreshment stand on the lower level.

http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr25/bobiniligan/IliganVisit-08-PicsByIrbo144.jpg

If you have ever wondered about things that put the smile on an Iliganons face it is a place like the all natural Timoga Springs that can create so many all natural smiles as seen on the faces of some of my Iliganon friends here. There is more to life than mega sized amusement parks with the latest thrill rides. The beauty and serenity of a place like this can create a multitude of great experiences not easily forgotten.

http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr25/bobiniligan/IliganVisit-08-PicsByIrbo167.jpg

The constantly changing water that cascades from the source through the many pools keeps it so incredibly clean. Natural Filtration at its best !

http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr25/bobiniligan/IliganVisit-08-PicsByIrbo165.jpg

And should the abundance of " Beautiful Scenery " in and around the pools not be enough, there are breathtaking views from the upper pool area overlooking part of the city out onto Iligan Bay make it a fantastic place to enjoy refreshments or a full meal in a first class setting. Timoga Springs all natural swimming pools are a most unique and amazing place, after all, this is Iligan City !

PGMA orders implementation of "Kalayaan Barangay" projects in Lanao del Norte
by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob

(19 March) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the immediate implementation of 12 infrastructure projects under the "Kalayaan Barangay" Program (KBP) in Sultan Naga Dimaporo town, Lanao del Norte province.

Worth P22.5 million, these projects will be undertaken by the 547th Engineer Construction Battalion (ECB), 55th Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army in five of Sultan Naga's barangays (villages), namely: Ditago, Cabongbongan, Topokon, Mahayahay and Calipapa.

This is in line with the President's Memorandum Order No. 166, "Directing the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Core of Army Engineers to Construct Security "Kalayaan" Roads and Other Strategic Roads" in areas where they are urgently needed to promote peace and development.

Lt. Col. Gerardo F. Catindoy, 547 ECB Commanding Officer, said the deployment of construction teams will immediately follow the launching program to be held at the town's Grandstand on March 20.

"We are going to hire people from the community to help in the construction, so we could also implement the Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP) in these areas," he said.

Meanwhile, Catindoy said each of the 5 barangays has an allocation of P4.5 million to be used for the construction of the following projects:

Access road in Ditago, P4.125 million, Cabongbongan, P2.49million, Calipapa, P3.25 million, Mahayahay, P3.75 million and Topocon, P4.125 million.

One unit KBP school building each in Ditago, Cabongbongan, Calipapa and Topocon and two (2) units of the same in Mahayahay, at P375,000 each unit and expansion of electrical system in Cabongbongan, P1.635 million and Calipapa, P872,000.

Catindoy said the program of work (POW) for the projects in Ditago and Cabongbongan have been approved and that the procurement process for the materials is ongoing.

However, the POW for Calipapa, Mahayahay and Topocon are still for approval by the AFP General Headquarters, he added.

(mta)

Tominobo going to Suarez

Thank you for posting this pic Alingatong@... WOW! this is my old street... I used to cross this street/highway carefree... Unafraid of the dangers of crossing the highway where jeeps and cars wiz by at high speeds... I think ang Tambayan namo is right under the other side of this view!!!

In the pic, i see a blue sign/banner maybe in the left. Can anybody answer is that the sign/Main GAte for the Local School?

Oh the memories keep coming... Love this thread!

Keep up the good job everyone... And thank you all for the glimpses of home...

PS: Can i request pics of the Beaches in Iligan... I used to spend hours on the beaches of tominobo... Camague in particular... those were the days...

Vice Mayor Dy mitaho sa resulta sa iyang opisyal nga lakaw didto sa Taipei

Tuesday, 24 March 2009

(mta)

C3? Di ba this place is converted into a special economic zone na man? Perhaps, new investments are coming in place into that area. Just look at the pictures, the work area is so wide just for a C-3 road.

I had a picture way back then when I was like 3 years old wearing a big grin and had no "purol" just by the cascade together with my then younger uncle, cousin and sisters. I just can't forget my "cute" face way back in time :)

Yeah, especially that "house on the right side". It was already standing way back in the 1920s... that house should not be demolished as that is only of those who survived the ages even World War II wasn't enough for it to be destroyed. That should become a heritage house too... I hope our city officials will consider this one as the city's monuments...

From the first time I began viewing pictures on the internet of Iligan City and knowing so many of them have been put here by those that live there, I have always felt these pics and videos have represented the pride Iliganons have in their city and the surrounding countryside.

Obviously there are people in other parts of the world who have never heard of Iligan CIty, a place I found by accident while websurfing a few years ago. When I decided to visit Iligan I booked my flight with the same travel agent I have used for many many years. My travel agent always knows when I have had a great time in another part of the world from my enthusiastic comments upon my return.

I had accumilated so much information about Iligan City and Mindanao, I wanted to share some of it first hand with my travel agent so he could use it for future reference so I have given him an Iligan Tourist brochure and 3 discs loaded with some of the Best Of Iligan pictures and videos from this website, Youtube, my own camera, and those that took pictures during my visits.

Food-for-School program gains success in Lanao Norte (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=12&fi=p090324.htm&no=52&r=r10&y=&mo=)
by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City -- The implementation of the Food-for-School Program (FSP) has gained ground in Iligan City.

The program, which is spearheaded by Department of Education (DepEd) as an immediate intervention to address hunger among families through their children enrolled in public elementary schools, involves allocating one kilogram of rice to Grade I pupils every day.

Sapia Madali of Zone 3, Barangay Bagong Silang and mother of Hannifa-a, a Grade 1 pupil enrolled at Bagong Silang Elementary School, lauded the government's mitigating measures.

As long as my child goes to school every day, my family is also assured of rice on our table every day, said Madali, who is a solo parent of five children.

"Through the FSP, the one kilogram rice daily ration brought by my child from the school helps us a lot. So I encourage Hannifa not to be absent from her classes because I explained to her that aside from learning her lessons, she could bring home food too," she said.

She added that her daily income is not sufficient to meet the needs of her children, especially on food.

Madali thanked the efforts of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for mobilizing line agencies to implement the program and reaching out to the poor.

For her part, Remilda R. Smith, Bagong Silang Elementary School Health Coordinator said that during school year 2008, then six-year old Hannifa weighed only 14.5 kilograms during the school's Operation Timbang.

"But now, she weighs 18 kilograms," she gladly reported.

Hannifa used to be a frail and pale looking child but she's now an active pupil and participates in classroom activities, said Smith.

She also acknowledged the support extended by other entities in support to the government's immediate intervention to address hunger, such as the Mother Ignacia Center for Social Responsibility of the St. Michael's College (SMC) which was able to tap the Jollibee Foundation through its sister company Chowking for their supplemental seeding dubbed "Busog, Lusog, Talino Program" (BLT) recently.

The Circumferential Road 3 Project is Iligan's Agricultural Highway. It was converted into a national road under the Super Regions development strategy of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Mindanao. The completion of this infrastructure development project in 2010-2011 is expected to boost the agri-business potentials of the Mindanao Super Region and Iligan City in particular.

It will connect our hinterland barangays to the rest of Mindanao as well as help farmers transport their produce from their farms to major markets in the island. It will provide for a safer and faster transfer of goods per se.

for me, C3 is not the immediate solution of traffic flow in iligan's CBD but of Agri'l uses.but its a great move by the city officials for the future of Iligan..our traffic is not that heavy of what CdeO and Davao has..its about on how to manage the traffic/congested areas by our enforcers..why not eliminate the "sikads" along Tambacan highway to give way for the Bus and Cargo trucks; the Tubod-Tipanoy highway to give way for the Tipanoy bound vehicles and avoid clogging along the Tubod bridge;the Mahayahay-back of Shell Traffic Light area to flow easily outside Mahayahay area or even minimize them by transversing the national high to avoid slow moving of vehicles..or why not Light-up all of our traffic Lights(esp the 3 traffic lights in Roxas Ave)...if you noticed the 3 TLs are not operational since before the city fiesta until now..character of PUJ drivers are very degrading, they stopped right above the pedestrian lane (in the corner) of Roxas and Quezon Ave to pick-up passengers and caused clogging all right-turn bound vehicles.infact that is a free-way right turn..the cases of improper loading and unloading are yet unsolved...ambot lang anus-a madesiplina ang mga nagbagang driver nga halos murag pinalit (i hope not) ang mga lisencya...

Food-for-School program gains success in Lanao Norte
by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (24 March) -- The implementation of the Food-for-School Program (FSP) has gained ground in Iligan City.

With the completion of the C3 project, the main highway within the CBD area will be declogged of big trucks and buses. That would ease the heavy traffic that is being experienced. It is also projected that more areas along C3 would slowly define as new commercial districts. Sana. :)

heavier traffic is observed along aguinaldo street from jollibee to berds cinema. all puj passes through this street. perhaps the city can divide the puj routes between the two markets to unclog it, say puj plying the northern barangays passes through the central market only, and puj plying the southern barangays passes through the pala-o market only.

Aside from easing traffic volume in the city center, big cargo trucks, trailers and buses should be diverted to the c3 road to spur more economic development in the areas where it will pass through.

Nickel producer eyeing switch to other minerals as prices drop

LOCAL NICKEL processor Platinum Group Metals Corp. is looking at venturing into manganese and chromite given the dampened demand and prices of nickel, a company official said.

"We are seriously considering multi-alloy production like ferro-manganese or ferro-chrome just to be able to utilize our plant and equipment," Platinum Group Senior Vice-President John H. Cabarrus told officials of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.

Nickel prices for cash buyers have fallen to $4.36 per pound from $4.53 last month and $13.15 last year. The record high was $24 per pound in May 2007, data from the London Metal Exchange showed.

"We are conducting a lot of research and development .. [and] looking at costs and revenues we can generate [as a result of] converting to ferro-chrome or ferro-manganese," Mr. Cabarrus told BusinessWorld in a phone interview.

However, the company has to apply for an environmental compliance certificate from the Environment department for its new venture. The Platinum Group will submit its application next month, Mr. Cabarrus said.

Demand from the top market — the Chinese steel industry — has dropped by as much as 70% due to the economic slowdown, Mr. Cabarrus said. Ferro-nickel is a main ingredient in steel production.

Platinum Group has shelved its nickel processing plants in Iligan City in Lanao del Norte and in the town of Manticao in Misamis Oriental.

A total of 139 and 129 workers were retrenched from the Iligan and Manticao plants, respectively. Seventeen employees were left in Iligan and six in Manticao, Mr. Cabarrus said.

The company invested $20.59 million and $9.948 million to develop the Manticao and Iligan processing plants, respectively.

Early this year, listed Apex Mining Co., the Philippine unit of British miner Crew Gold Corp., laid off 150 of its 1,955 workers to save on development costs in its Compostela Valley gold mine in southern Mindanao.

Berong Nickel Corp., the local unit of London-based Toledo Mining Corp. PLC, ceased its Palawan operations last month amid dampened demand and rock-bottom prices of nickel, cutting 600 jobs and retaining less than 50 employees.

"Should there be improvement [in metal prices], we expect to resume our operations and production," Mr. Cabarrus said.

But despite the drop in demand, the Platinum Group wants to sell 350,000 to 500,000 wet metric tons of nickel ore, extracted from its 4,376-hectare mine in Surigao del Norte, to Chinese traders this year.

The company has a supply agreement with the BHP Billiton-owned Queensland Nickel, Inc.

Queensland Nickel is supposed to buy 800,000 wet metric tons of nickel ore this year.

The Platinum Group shipped nickel ore last Friday. It expects four shipments in April and another six to seven deliveries in May to October, Mr. Cabarrus. said.

traffic division should consider this suggestion. it's not going to be popular, but I think it will greatly reduce traffic along Aguinaldo St.

Katawhan ning siyudad, padayong gidasig sa pagduyog sa pangkalibutanong pag-obserbar sa 'Earth Hour'

Thursday, 26 March 2009

Iligan City ranks 2nd in Best City Peace and Order Council
by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (11 March) -- Adjudged as the country's Second Best City Peace and Order Council for calendar year 2006, in the Highly Urbanized City (HUC) category, is an achievement that we Iliganons could be proud of, said Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz.

Mayor Cruz, in his announcement to the members of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) during its recently concluded meeting at the Sangguniang Panlungsod session hall, said that the selection was on the basis of its exemplary achievements as a prime mover in the formulation, implementation and orchestration of programs, projects and activities for the enhancement of law and order and public safety.

The award we received further recognizes the city's effective and integrated coordination of the five Pillars of the Criminal Justice System at the local administrative level of government, which accomplishments are highly indicative of its continuous and unwavering commitment in the pursuit of lasting peace and development in its area of jurisdiction, the Mayor enunciated.

These pillars are law enforcement, prosecution, judiciary, probation, and penology, Cruz said.

The Best CPOC went to Olongapo City, and both Plaques received by the awardees signed by no other than the chief executive of the land- Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The efforts we exerted had been laudably recognized by the Department of Interior and Local Government through Secretary Ronaldo V. Puno, who chairs the National Peace and Order Council (NPOC) and the National Police Commission (NPC), said Mayor Cruz. (PIA Lanao del Norte)

Northern Mindanao Regional Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Development

The existence of a good Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure in the urban areas and the enabling provisions of the E-Commerce Law make ICT a potential growth sector in the region. Focus is now given towards the declaration and establishment of IT Hubs and ICT Parks in two key cities of the region - Iligan and Cagayan de Oro. Areas for investment and employment opportunities include: customer contact center or call centers; medical and legal transcriptions; animation, multi-media and web content development; architectural and engineering design services; and accounting and financial services.

With ICT identified as a growth sector in the region, existing ICT-related establishments have began upgrading their facilities while HR-related educational institutions have upgraded their curricula in response to the growing demand for more ICT-related human resource. While the region boasts of a fairly adequate IT-related infrastructure and human resource (such as animators and web/multi-media developers, systems developers, internet service providers, internet cafes, hardware and software vendors, etc.), it needs to look towards strengthening the cohesiveness among the small and medium information technology enterprises (SMITES). ICT cells or groupings of similar ICT-related services, especially those involved in systems, multi-media, web and other software development, need to be organized, in order to expand capacity to access market and additional capitalization.

Moreover, the seemingly lack of qualified workforce for call centers, specifically, english-proficient applicants has alerted the sector to quickly respond to this concern.

guys, can somebody confirm this? my grandmother told that the IBJT Southbound Terminal will be transferred at the former NSC football field right at the present construction of the C3 phase 1? She also told that due to the "high rent" imposed by the lot owner at the present IBJT-SOuth, the city is planning to build "another" terminal?

If that's so, then the present south bound terminal is doomed to be wasted lang IMO. Imagine the millions of pesos spent just to build that terminal and not to mention the concreting of the access road... tsk! tsk! tsk! :ohno:

When they built that terminal, I was really thinking that it's just a waste of money as the North bound Terminal has the capacity to handle both south bound PUJ vehicles /buses and north bound PUJ vehicles/ buses. And now, if this is really true, then big money is wasted :ohno:

IMO... southbound terminal totally packed a lot of vehicles... that means mas lesser nalang movement sa terminal...

what will happen would be like this... the current southbound terminal will be a dedicated terminal for tamaraw fx and jeep operators bound for Lanao del Sur... I know marami sila dyan.. the bus terminal near C3 would serve perhaps for bus operations and jeeps bound for Lanao del Norte route..

Steelmaker sees 30% jump in output

MANILA, Philippines — Treasure Steelworks Corp., a subsidiary of publicly listed TKC Steel Corp., said it had commissioned a new ladle furnace at its plant in the southern city of Iligan that can boost manufacturing output by 30 percent.

In a regulatory filing, TKC Steel president Anthony Dizon said the installation and commissioning of the furnace was an important part of Treasure Steelworks’ preparation for construction activities that would likely be spurred by the P330-billion state stimulus package this year.

He said this was also part of the group’s strategy to target opportunities in other parts of the world where stimulus plans were in place.

“The increased capacity will enable us to position ourselves strategically for the recovery push and also provides us the opportunity to pursue available export market opportunities. As we speak, we are presently in the midst of preparations to service a 5,000-metric ton export shipment to Bangladesh by the end of the month,” he said.

“Moreover, our improvements in equipment and operating procedures will be the crucial links in the overall process at the time our blast furnace comes on stream in the near future,” he added.

The commissioning of the ladle furnace, which has a capacity of 60 metric tons, is expected to shorten the production cycle time.

The furnace will serve as the holding receptacle for liquid steel produced in Treasure Steelworks’ melting furnaces.

The addition of this facility in the Iligan City plant is an important component of the steel manufacturer’s expansion and capability enhancement program, which started last year. -Abigail L. Ho

ILIGAN joins Earth Hour observance

https://climatefriendly.com/skins/files/image/earth-hour.jpg

Lights out tonight

By ELLALYN B. DE VERA, ELENA L. ABEN
March 27, 2009, 11:00pm

On Saturday, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and from Cagayan Valley to Tawi-Tawi, households and many commercial establishments and institutions in the country will be switching off non-essential lights and appliances in support of Earth Hour.

The Philippines joins 83 other countries where individuals, communities, government agencies, businesses, and other sectors have committed to turn off lights for one hour to fight the imminent dangers of climate change.

Sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007 when an estimated two million people switched off their lights at the appointed hour.

The event turned global in 2008 when more than 50 million people participated in creating more awareness for the need to fight climate change.

Last year, WWF, Meralco, and the Philippine Electricity Market Corporation estimated that more than a million Filipinos participated in the event, resulting in saving 56 megawatt per hour of energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 30 tons, equivalent to shutting down an entire coal-fired power plant for an hour.

The WWF said the provinces of Albay, Basilan, Bataan, Batangas, Benguet, Bukidnon, Cagayan, Camarines Sur, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Iloilo, Isabela, La Union, Laguna, Marinduque, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Nueva Vizcaya, Palawan, Pampanga, Quezon, Siquijor, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zambales, and Zamboanga del Norte have expressed the commitment to participate in Earth Hour.

The national government and local government units have been active in promoting participation in Earth Hour.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Jose Atienza Jr. urged all Filipinos to support Earth Hour as part of an information and education campaign to raise people’s awareness on the effects of climate change, reforestation, and biodiversity conservation measures.

“On Earth Hour, let us once again do more than our share: let our global environmental citizenship, in that hour of voluntary darkness, shine out.” Atienza said.

The DENR chief noted that the Philippines is nowhere near the world’s top 20 countries in per capita energy consumption, registering less than 22 percent of the world average in 2005.

“The Philippines is certainly not a significant contributor to climate change. But because our archipelago is among those most endangered to global warming, mitigation and adaptation measures top our environmental agenda,” Atienza said.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ronaldo Puno called on LGUs to turn off non-essential lights and electrical appliances in provincial, city, municipal and barangay (village) halls for one hour today.

“The simple act and small sacrifice of switching off our lights during Earth Hour will certainly generate awareness on the importance for all nations of the world to undertake decisive and immediate measures to address the issue of climate change,” Puno said.

In a press statement, WWF-Philippines Climate Change and Energy Programme Head Yeb Saño said: "We aim to enjoin 10 million Filipinos to join the fight against climate change by simply turning off their lights.”

Saño added that Earth Hour couldn’t have come at a better time.

“December sees the passage of the Philippine Renewable Energy Act, a landmark legislation which took all of 19 years to pass. The climate movement is in full swing. Earth Hour is our best chance to meet the challenge with unity and purpose,” Saño said.

As of March 26, 2008, WWF database showed the cities of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, Pateros, Quezon City, San Juan, Taguig, and Valenzuela, all in Metro Manila.

Other cities and municipalities supporting the event are: Alaminos, Pangasinan, Angeles in Pampanga, Bacolod in Negros Occidental, Bago, Baguio, Balanga in Bataan, Batangas in Batangas, Bayawan in Negros Oriental, Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija, Cagayan de Oro, Calapan, Calbayog in Samar, Cebu, Dapitan in Zamboanga del Norte, Davao, Digos in Davao del Sur, Dumaguete, Gapan in Nueva Ecija, General Santos, Gingoog in Misamis Oriental, Iligan in Lanao del Norte, Iriga in Camarines Sur, Kabankalan, La Carlota, Laoag in Ilocos Norte, Lapu-Lapu, Legazpi in Albay, Lucena in Quezon, Mandaue, Masbate in Masbate, Naga in Camarines Sur , Olongapo, Panabo, Passi, Puerto Princesa, Roxas, San Carlos, San Fernando in La Union, San Jose del Monte in Bulacan, San Pablo in Laguna, Sipalay, Tagaytay, Tagbilaran, Tangub in Misamis Occidental, Tarlac in Tarlac, Toledo, Tuguegarao, Urdaneta, Vigan, and Zamboanga.

The municipalities of Bulan in Sorsogon, Cabangan in Zambales, Castillejos in Zambales, Catarman in Northern Samar, El Nido in Palawan, Malay in Aklan, Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte, Pamplona in Negros Occidental, Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro, Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro, San Antonio in Zambales, San Marcelino in Zambales, Subic in Zambales also expressed full support for the campaign.

Steelmaker sees 30% jump in output
First Posted 06:04:00 03/28/2009

Abigail L. Ho

SSS Iligan offers summer jobs to children of displaced workers
by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (27 March) -- The Social Security System (SSS) has launched the summer training program for student-dependent of displaced workers as part of the efforts to help its members and their families affected by the ongoing financial crisis, which has led to job losses here and abroad.

Dr. Cherly S. Jariol, branch manager, SSS Iligan, revealed that for Iligan City, they would be accommodating 15 students only and applicant has to submit an application form with her/his birth certificate, latest school registration card, valid school ID, medical certificate and proof that they or their parent, sibling, uncle or aunt has lost their job.

Under the new SSS guidelines, the applicant or the SSS member related to the student must have been laid off within the last 24 months due to the present economic crisis and has at least one contribution payment within the same period, stressed Dr. Jariol.

She emphasized that siblings of displaced workers would be accepted in addition to children, nephew and nieces of laid off employees and students registered with SSS.

Students will be enjoying hands-on training on social security services for 44 working days which will start on April 2 to June 5, 2009, and shall receive a P340 daily allowance, Jariol said.

TKC Steel completes ladle furnace facility, readies exports to Bangladesh

TKC Steel Corp. yesterday said its wholly owned subsidiary Treasure Steelworks has completed commissioning a newly installed ladle furnace in its steel manufacturing facility in Iligan city.

TKC Steel, in a disclosure to the stock exchange, said the ladle furnace, the first in the Philippine steel industry, was an integral component of the company’s capacity expansion and capability enhancement program, which started in 2008.

“With a capacity of 60 metric tons, the ladle furnace will serve as the holding receptacle for the liquid steel produced in treasure steel’s melting furnace, thereby shortening production cycle time and effectively increasing manufacturing output by 30 percent. The improvements in quality and productivity would put Treasure Steelworks at par with the worldwide steel-making practice,” TKC Steel said.

TKC Steel president Anthony Dizon said the ladle furnace was an important step in Treasure Steelwork’s overall business development strategy in anticipation of the activities to be generated by economic stimulus packages being implemented in the Philippines.

“The increased capacity will enable us to position ourselves strategically for the recovery push, and also provides us the opportunity to pursue available export market opportunities,” Dizon said.

“Moreover, the improvements in our equipment and operating procedures will be the crucial links in the overall process at the time our blast furnace comes on stream in the near future,” he added.

The company is preparing for a 5,000-metric ton export shipment to Bangladesh by the end of March.

guys, can somebody confirm this? my grandmother told that the IBJT Southbound Terminal will be transferred at the former NSC football field right at the present construction of the C3 phase 1? She also told that due to the "high rent" imposed by the lot owner at the present IBJT-SOuth, the city is planning to build "another" terminal?

If that's so, then the present south bound terminal is doomed to be wasted lang IMO. Imagine the millions of pesos spent just to build that terminal and not to mention the concreting of the access road... tsk! tsk! tsk! :ohno:

When they built that terminal, I was really thinking that it's just a waste of money as the South bound Terminal has the capacity to handle both south bound PUJ vehicles /buses and north bound PUJ vehicles/ buses. And now, if this is really true, then big money is wasted :ohno:

well that would be lucky break for the owner of the present South bound terminal. just imagine the cost of the filling materials if he had to spend for it. however the new terminal should be better designed that could accomodate long and big body buses.

^^ I think you meant the IBJT-South Bound. The lot of IBJT-North Bound (Tambo-Del Carmen) is wholly-owned by the City Government of Iligan.

well that would be lucky break for the owner of the present north bound terminal. just imagine the cost of the filling materials if he had to spend for it. however the new terminal should be better designed that could accomodate long and big body buses.

these are absolutely non-sense. The money they spent on that terminal is just waste. I do prefer that they spend more money on improvising the facilities of our local hospital. Heaps of things in our hospitals that needs attention.
A lot of money has been wasted on never ending construction but the question is...... did it last? Is it more practical nowadays?
I think health care and education should be given more emphasis....

It's Ateneo vs DLSU in debate finals

Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology's (MSU-IIT) dream run in "Square Off: Frankahan-The Drilon Debates" ended last Wednesday.

Defending the motion that libel should be decriminalized, the girls of MSU-IIT succumbed to reigning champs, Ateneo de Manila University, via a split decision.

On the motion that libel should be decriminalized, MSU-IIT proposed reducing libel to a civil offense. They argued that there are sufficient existing measures in the status quo - like monetary redress and going to other media outfits to reply - to vindicate what they call a "private" offense.

MSU-IIT said the repercussion of maintaining libel as a crime is that it is used by the powerful as a tool for repression, which is detrimental to higher values such as freedom of expression and of the press.

However, the Ateneo team argued that a civil offense is not good enough.

Countering MSU-IIT's contention that libel is essentially a "private" offense, Ateneo stressed that libel can cause irreparable damage that warrants it being classified as a crime punishable by imprisonment.

The reigning champs asserted that it's the state's responsibility to protect people from misinformation, just as it should from other threats to people's safety and well-being.

Besides, Ateneo pointed out, the standards for proving criminal libel are high enough, such that only the truly irresponsible and malicious journalist are punished, while the press, as a whole, is not under threat.

Furthermore, Ateneo argued that restricting the punishment for libel to mere monetary fines would make its impact negligible to an erring media conglomerate with deep pockets.

These very valid arguments coming from both sides of the house, as well as a common failure to develop some important points, made it difficult for the judges to decide.

Chief Adjudicator Estelle Osorio revealed that the result boiled down to the dynamism and responsiveness of one team.

By just one point, Ateneo kept their bid alive for a 3rd Square Off title.

Next Wednesday will be the end of the odyssey.

Bitter rivals Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University will battle it out for the chance to win an all-expense paid trip to Dhaka for the Asian Universities Debating Championships and for the title of 'Frankahan' champs.

"Square Off: Frankahan - The Drilon Debates" airs every Wednesdays, 8-9pm, with replays every Thursday at 1 pm, Saturday at 1 pm, and Sunday at 2 am.

^^ Not a bad maiden year in joining the Frankahan for IIT's debate varsity. On a split decision, I heard that the score between Ateneo de Manila U and IIT was so thin that it shocked the ADMU side considering also that the best speaker was awarded to IIT's 2nd speaker. Win or lose, IIT had nothing to lose, it's ADMU who's the defending champion and 7th ranked best debating school in the world. They would be the one who should maintain a good poise better against the neophytes. :)

Congratulations IIT! :okay:

^^ I think we have the problem with the necessary network infrastructure yet. That's where it's all from and from what PLDT said, upgrading network infra to that level is a bit expensive and they too don't know if a market is readily available to support that expensive services it offers.

She's also one of the best competitor in MECHATRONICS SKILLS COMPETITION, unfortunately she lost the opportunity for representatives of the Philippines in international competition to be held in Malaysia

Regardless of not having the international opportunity, being the valedictorian at this years graduation ceremony, to me, is one of the highest honors a MSU-IIT could possibly achieve. I wish I could be there for the ceromony but I can't this time. Maybe I can catch some of it on youtube if any videos are posted.

When I met Faith in Chancellor Salizars office where this picture was taken, I was told at that time she had a Grade Point Average of 1.5 ! At the time I had to let that go in one ear and out the other as I felt that must be an error or there must be a numerical translation difference. In the USA, the GPA numbers are from 1 to 4 with 4 being the absolute highest. I later learned that the GPA Numbers are a bit of in reverse between USA and Philippines.

Fear not MSU-IIT students, in many instances when a student or graduate from a foriegn university applies to a University or for that matter a job in the USA the scholastic and other qualifications are required ( by the school or employer ) to be analysed and converted to USA Standards and there are many organizations and specialized businesses that perform this.

In the case of a MSU-IIT alumni who had thoughts of enrolling in a northeastern USA University for a Masters Degree, I was personally involved in handling the paperwork that was submitted to World Educational Services in New York USA. After a thourough verification and review of all the information submitted to World Educational Services in New York City USA, the Bachelors Degree from MSU-IIT in this case was found to be equal to the same degree as if it was earned at a USA University.

This example shows the value of an MSU-IIT Degree. As the song made famous by Frank Sinatra says " If you can make it here you can make it anywhere "

Congradulations to Faith on all of her achievements and those of the entire " Class of 2009 " graduating from MSU-IIT.

Just a reminder, just about anyone or any business individually or as a group can establish a scholarship at MSU-IIT or any university of their choice. It is easy, fun and it does not have to cost you a fortune. The results of this can be rewarding in many ways.

I have so much enjoyed learning about Iligan City after finding it quite accidentially on the internet a few years ago and then being able to visit and see it for myself, I wanted to leave my name on something there to establish some kind of presence. Establishing this scholarship at MSU-IIT was the way I found I could do this, in addition to assisting someone there to continue and complete their requirements for a Degree from what I consider to be the Flagship University of Iligan City. I look forward to another visit sometime later in the year.

Iligan City..............Simply Amazing !

Iligan City..............Simply Amazing !

sir @Bob, our class valedictorian would like to thank you for the support and you're part of her success :)

Paghimo sa Iligan nga Lone District, hayan matuman sa bulan sa Oktobre ning tuiga

Wednesday, 01 April 2009

(boy decena)

PNP Iligan bares 'Oplan Semana Santa' (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=12&fi=p090401.htm&no=40&r=r10&y=&mo=)
by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (1 April) -- The Philippine National Police-Iligan City Police Office (PNP-ICPO), in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, has formulated Oplan Semana Santa, an effective security system to adequately prevent any acts of lawlessness during the observance of the Holy Week.

P/SSupt Oscar Aguda, officer-in-charge, ICPO-PNP, said they need to intensify police visibility imperative to prevent the occurrence of crimes, and to address traffic congestion, too.

Criminal elements particularly terrorist and Lawless Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Groups (LMGs) might take advantage of the situation to conduct their nefarious activities against civilian populace and vital government or private installations.

In the OPLAN Semana Santa, we coordinated with religious ministers/priests and churches in the police' respective Area of Responsibility (AOR) for the slated activities, said P/SSupt Aguda.

Aguda added, we will be deploying uniformed personnel for visibility in the vicinity of churches, other ritual places, seaports and bus terminals of police AORs, and continue to secure vital installations, as well.

We opted to deploy plainclothes personnel to intensify intelligence operation, monitoring the plans and activities of criminal elements and other threat groups. Also, we coordinated with 104th Brigade, Philippine Army, and the 10th PRMG (Police Regional Mobile Group) in case there is a need for augmentation.

Force multipliers like the radio groups and other civic organizations have been mobilized to support the police elements in providing assistance to the general public ensuring the city's peace and order.

Likewise, barangay chairmen were advised to utilize their CVOs (Civilian Volunteer Organizations) and Barangay Tanods in providing security in their respective AORs.

The Explosives Ordnance Device (EOD), using the sniffing dogs of the K-9 Unit will conduct paneling in all major churches in the city and other places of convergence, sanitizing its places of engagement one hour prior to the activity in observance of the Holy Week.

The Traffic Management Enforcement Auxiliary Group (TMEAG) and other traffic auxiliaries shall be utilized to assist in the maintenance of the normal flow of traffic and establishment of motorist assistance along national highways during the week's celebration.

The regular established checkpoints are still at its strategic places to preempt any hostile attacks by terrorists, LMGs, and other threat groups, Aguda commented.
