aysus. nagpapalusot ka pa dyan.

Ang sabihin mo, napahiya ka when you relied on your poor memory.

okay?

Siguro born against ka dre. Anyways, maayong laki man ka. So be it. Kaya lang dre sayang talaga.

Hi gORs:

Ang requirement sa PEZA for IT Park outside outside Metro Manila, ma-o ni: 1. For Buildings it should not be less than 5000 sq. meters and 2. Area for Development, not less than 5 hectares or 50,000 sq. meters.

I see. Medyo malaki pala requirement sa area for development.

16th Iligan Writers Workshop opens

The 16th Iligan National Writers Workshop opens at 9 a.m., May 25, at the MSU-IIT Mini Theatre. Works in poetry, fiction, and drama in English and our regional languages by 16 fellows from around the country will be read and discussed by a distinguished panel of some of the most respected writers in Philippine Literature.

The Iligan workshop has set the tradition of publishing its proceedings and of inviting alumni fellows to give the keynote address. This year's keynote address will be given by poet-critic Ralph Semino-Galan, alumnus of the 1st workshop 15 years ago.

This year's workshop will be highlighted by the launch of About Us (Christine Godinez-Ortega, ed.) and a compilation of all the keynote addresses (Mindanao Forum, 2009) since the workshop first opened in 1994. (The workshop was organized through the efforts and visions of workshop director Godinez-Ortega, Jaime An Lim, and Cirilo Bautista).

The workshop too pays tribute to the late poet-biologist Ed Ortega in afternoon ceremonies during the program's first day.

The Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) performs a multi-media transcreation of Godinez-Ortega's poem "Camp Bushra's Mosque on Inquirer Page One." (direction and music: Steven P.C. Fernandez, choreography: Kenn Erwin Velasquez, and installation art by the IPAG Creative Collective).

The Workshop is one of 3 institutionalized writing programs of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). Partners of the NCCA are the Mindanao Creative Writers Group, Inc., the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, and the MSU-IIT Office of Multi-Media Information and Dissemination Unit Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension.

Mga Kaayohan sa paghimong Lone District sa Iligan, gipahayag ni Mayor Cruz

Monday, 01 June 2009

(boy decena)

The Don

There is a new baby in town. The “IN” place to be seen and to dine. Not because you have to but for the different kind of experience that you get. Last week i was one lucky lad. Don Stuart Del Rosario invited me for a get together at his bistro. His new joint ” THE DON “. The place is very simple and casual. One gets the feeling that he is in an Italian abode upon entering the place. The space evokes Sicilian Mafia movies. He told moi that he was inspired by the movie ” The Godfather “. I went there together with a couple who was celebrating their 9th year anniversary. It was perfect company. I am soooo loving THE DON. Look at the interiors………

Ode to Club ZINC.
By: Jeremy Evanoso Ganaden
Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 8:16pm

even before the club's biggest ever party event (zinc luau),which was by the way very successful, speculations and rumors were already circulating in the community of nightlife enthusiasts that the club is already closing or re-locating. friends-close or not so, have been asking me this question, "is it true that club zinc is closing?" eh i couldn't answer naman point blank coz ako mismo im not quite sure of that.

now all the talks will be confirmed.
CLUB ZINC has permanently closed its door.
its halls, that for a period of time, were made alive by the pumping sounds of party music and its patrons will now be blanketed with silence.

on a more personal note, it saddens me so much that the place that i used to call "my comfort zone" will only be a memory and can only be seen on photographs. there, i mingled with different kinds of people. friends-i made a few. foes-none. and i'm thankful...

CLUB ZINC wasn't just a place for booze and dancing.
it wasn't just a place for fashion.
it wasn't just a place for socializing...

but truly Zinc had become...

a CULTURE.
a LIFESTYLE.
a LIFE...

and so we party on!

Iligan City mayor highlights meaning of Nat'l Flag Day
by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (2 June) -- Since an Executive Order was made several years ago on the National Flag Day celebration every 28th May and the year thereafter, it connotes everything, which started from the evolution of flags, all its symbols of national solidarity indicative of true patriotism and love of country.

This was the opening statement of City Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz of Iligan in his message during the program in the observance of the National Flag Day. But, are we living what the flag stands for? The mayor threw the question to hundreds of spectators at the public plaza, this city.

Also, are we internalizing the lyrics of our national anthem, just like what the flag stands for? What our flag teaches us to do, is what also our national anthem tells us to do, as Filipinos, expressed Mayor Cruz.

We will ask ourselves, what we can contribute, to be useful to the society. Problems always occur, there is no ideal world, no ideal situation, that we can say bad times are over, now comes the good times. There is just no such thing, the mayor commented. "Tough times never last, but tough people do", he added.

Practice should be a part of our everyday life because tough situations are here to stay. So, we just have to continue searching for the answers, solutions to the problems we encounter.

What is important is we understand the theme for this year, "Kagitingan, Kagalingan, at Kasipagan, Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan". Let us all march towards progress despite tremendous acts, we shall defeat the enemy that is complacency, poverty and all the problems that destroy our society, Mayor Cruz reiterated.

The mayor, along with the city local officials, led the raising of the Philippine Flag and the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the reading of the Flag Code by City Councilor Ariel P. Anghay, who is also the Council Scout Executive, Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), Iligan City Council.

Anghay, who is also the Council Scout Executive, Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), Iligan City Council.

iligan is still not big enough to support a sustained vibrant night life. When I left 20 years ago, all we had was the BBQ inns/karaoke bars. but they served their purpose and were always packed with people. Club Zinc was a noble attempt to inject energy into otherwise boring evenings in Iligan. Maybe 10 years from now, it will be different.

Any updates on the grenade incident in Tubod? I hope Capt. Paran is doing fine.

Red tape-free government through the Anti-Red Tape Act

Government offices move a step closer to being red tape-free as over 250 agencies have completed their Citizen’s Charters, set up Help Desks and launched anti-fixer measures in compliance with Republic Act No. 9485 or the Anti-Red Tape Act (ARTA) of 2007. This was reported yesterday by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) as it also reminded other public offices that they have only four months left or until September this year to comply with ARTA.

CSC Chair Ricardo L. Saludo pointed out that over half or 60% of the offices which complied with ARTA were local government units from various parts of the country. The Commission also disclosed that model provinces and cities have been identified in each of the regions to showcase best practices in frontline service delivery. These provinces are La Union, Cavite, Camarines Sur, Bohol, Northern Samar, Bukidnon, Cotabato, Agusan del Sur and Maguindanao. The model cities are Candon in Ilocos Sur, Santiago City in Isabela, San Fernando City in Pampanga, Tanauan in Batangas, Legazpi and Tabaco Cities in Albay, Toledo in Cebu as well as Baybay in Leyte, Zamboanga City, Iligan City, Tacurong City and Butuan City.

The Anti-Red Tape Act aims to improve public service specifically frontline services rendered by client-heavy agencies. It applies to all government offices including local government units and government owned and controlled corporations that provide frontline services. With the Act, lengthy procedures, unreasonable paper requirements and padded fees will hopefully be addressed and stopped.

Administrative Order No. 241, issued by the Office of the President in October 2008 identified priority government agencies in the implementation of the Anti-Red Tape Act in the National Capital Region. These priority agencies, which also have complied with ARTA, are the City Government of Manila, Bureau of Customs, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Bureau of Food and Drugs, Bureau of Fire Protection, Laguna Lake Development Authority, Bureau of Internal Revenue, and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.

Chair Saludo said that the complete list of agencies which have complied with ARTA as of May 25 may be accessed through the Commission’s website www.csc.gov.ph. He also urged the public to call or text CSC at 932-0111 and 0917-8398272 if agencies have been erroneously listed as having implemented ARTA. “The next step is to evaluate agencies’ ARTA compliance, specifically the effectiveness of their charters, help desks and anti-fixer campaigns,” the CSC Chief added.

ARTA requires all government offices to draw up a Citizen’s Charter which identifies the frontline services offered, the step-by-step procedures, the employee responsible for each step, the amount of fees, the documents to be presented by the client and the procedure for filing complaints in relation to requests and applications. Prior to completing their charters however, government offices will have to review and evaluate their respective systems and procedures towards making transactions faster and easier for clients.

The Citizen’s Charter must be posted as information billboards at the main entrance or most conspicuous place and in published materials. The law also requires the setting up of a public assistance and complaint desk and urges agencies to crack down on fixers.

The Anti-Red Tape Act (ARTA) of 2007 took effect on September 5, 2008 following the issuance of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) by the Civil Service Commission under CSC Resolution No. 081471 dated July 24, 2008. Within one year from effectivity of the IRR, all government agencies should have set up or completed their respective Citizen’s Charters.

Barcenilla is RP’s 11th grandmaster
06/04/2009 | 05:42 PM

MANILA, Philippines – International master Rogelio Barcenilla Jr. became the country’s 11th grandmaster after bagging his third and final GM norm.

Barcenilla's victory over Georgian GM Zviad Izoria in the Copper State International Chess Championship last May 29 to June 3 in Mesa, Arizona, gave the Filipino his much-coveted GM title.

According to the United States Chess Federation website (USChess.org), the former San Sebastian College mainstay defeated Izoria after 31 moves of a King's Indian Defense.

Barcenilla, currently based on Mandaluyong but originally from Iligan City, finished just a point behind eventual winner Uzbek GM Timur Gareev, who accumulated 8.0 points in the 10-round event.

With his GM norm completed, Barcenilla joins an elite group composed of Eugene Torre, Joey Antonio, Bong Villamayor, Nelson Mariano II, Mark Paragua, Wesley So, Darwin Laylo, Jayson Gonzales, John Paul Gomez, Joseph Sanchez and the late Rosendo Balinas Jr.

Torre was actually Asia's first grandmaster. – GMANews.TV

DepEd Iligan to increase student population for SY 2009
by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (4 June) -- Schools Division Superintendent Domingo V. Samson, Iligan City Schools Division, Department of Education (DepEd) said we are still accepting enrollees this month for we want parents to send their children to school.

Regular classes started on June 01, but we consider late enrollees, implementing a no-fee collection policy, as per instruction of Education Secretary Jesli Lapus, added Samson.

Last School Year (SY) 2008-2009, DepEd Iligan has a population of 45,634 in the elementary level, and secondary level of 21,956.

For SY 2009-2010, we are expecting to reach the enrolment to 47,000, an 3% increase, and 23,000, an 4.7% increase, for elementary and secondary, respectively, Supt. Samson declared.

Iligan City school division has 13 districts, comprising 83 schools from the elementary and 25 schools from the secondary, Samson reported.

Also, the city division has 1,326 actually working teachers from elementary and 655 for secondary.

While the entire secondary level has not completely given report yet of status of enrolment, the whole elementary level has already advised their status to the division office, exclusive of the number of enrollees, considering enrolment is still going on.

The Iligan City National High School always gets the share of the highest number of students enrolled, citywide.

We got the assistance from the Traffic Management Group, and the Illigan City Police Office- Philippine National Police, maximizing police visibility in the city's different schools. (PIA Lanao del Norte)

Feature: The warriors for wellness
By Lorry V. Gabule

(4 June) -- Twenty year-old Kimberly C. Morales, a licensed nurse from Barangay Mukas, from the municipality of Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte, imbued herself as 'warrior for wellness' under the government's project dubbed as NARS or the Nurse Assigned in Rural Service.

I am certain that the knowledge I gained from my work now, cooling my heels in my hometown, is worth appreciating and remembering, said Kimberly. As 'warrior for wellness', I learned to do the three I's:

Firstly, we Initiate primary health, school nutrition, maternal health programs-first line diagnosis; second, we Inform about community water sanitation practices and also do health surveillance; and thirdly, we Immunize children and mothers.

A graduate of La Salle University, Ozamis City, she said the experience is an actual application of her skills and knowledge learned in college, not to mention that she's working at her own community in Mukas, delivering quality nursing and health care.

"If only I could have the access to convey to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo that the NARS program has benefited nurses like us who have no practical experience yet", expressed Kimberly.

The feeling of being with the less privilege folks in areas where health services could not be provided due to unavailability of health personnel is nevertheless an experience I will never forget, added Kimberly.

I understand that the NARS program aims to bring the government closer to the people. We are exposed to community service for three months, and the remaining three months to hospital work, Kimberly said.

We were deployed to our respective areas last April 2009, and shall complete the six months working experience in September 2009, she said.

Kimberly showed delight when she received her two months salary-the fruit of her labor.

The check (P8,000 per month), was released to all NARS recipients at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Iligan City/Lanao del Norte District Office, located at Mahayahay, Iligan City.

She said, she would like to share her earnings to her brother, who will be in school this month of June.

"My heartfelt thanks to our President for this opportunity, and we hope this project will continue for inexperienced nurses to benefit, and the people in the community, as well," Kimberly concluded.

MANILA, Philippines - A local manufacturers' group on Saturday said that the patronage of Filipino products could in the long run stop the deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFW).

“Kasi ang paniwala namin, kapag bibili ka ng produktong lokal, eh tinutulungan mo ang manggagawang Pilipino at mamumuhunang Pilipino at maiiwasan mo rin ang smuggling [Our belief is that if you buy local products, you help Filipino workers and investors, you also avoid smuggling]," said Jesus Arranza, president of the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI), in an interview aired over Vice President Noli De Castro’s weekly radio program.

This, he said, may be achieved through the “Buy Pinoy, Buy Local" campaign, which is the joint advocacy of the FPI and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc.

Arranza said “Buy Filipino, Buy Local" means the patronage of any Filipino-made product, whether it is a foreign brand, made from imported raw materials, or owned by foreigners, just as long as it was made by Filipino workers.

He said the public should espouse this campaign because even the United States included the “Buy American" policy in its 2009 Stimulus Act.

“If the US, which is the champion of globalization and a signatory to the Government Procurement Act saw the wisdom of ‘Buy American’ in its law, we in the FPI do not see the reason why we should not mandate ‘Buy Filipino’ in our law also," he said in a separate statement.

If this takes off, said Arranza, the Philippines will be able to attract investors.

A similar campaign ia also been pushed by some Filipino community groups in the Middle East, which is host to more than 2 million overseas Filipino workers (OFW).

Community organizations have been campaigning among their members to patronize Filipino products as a way of helping those who are at home.

“Ang punto namin, we will attract investors. Bakit? Eh paano ginagarintayahan mo na ang produktong gagawin niya sa Pilipinas ay tatangkilikin ng buong Pilipino kasi gawa rito," he said.

[Our point is that we will be able to attract investors. Why? Because we can guarantee that Filipino-made products will be bought by Filipinos because it was made in the country]

He said this will also entice domestic manufacturers to increase their capacities, which will subsequently result in more employment.

“This campaign will save and create jobs," he said.

In turn, Arranza said the creation of local jobs would allow OFWs to stay home for good.

“Kung tayo’t magsigasig at magkaroon ng labor at home, mababawasan yung mga broken families, nakakaawa rin ang mga tao, ayaw rin naman nila pumunta dun," he said.

[If we are hard-working enough to produce jobs at home, we can decrease the number of broken families. I pity OFWs, many of them don’t even want to go abroad]

The FPI will hold exhibitions of local products in various cities in the Philippines.

“We will duplicate this in each city and promote local products," he said.

PPA Iligan celebrates Port and Sea Safety Month
by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (8 June) -- The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA)-Port Management Office, Iligan City, in coordination with the Safety Organization of the Philippines, Inc. (SOPI), Iligan City Chapter, led the kick-off activity in the observance of Port and Sea Safety Month in June.

Port Manager Prudencio B. Mercado, Jr. of PPA Iligan said that through Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A, the observance falls every month of June, making the public aware of safety and the prevention of accidents at port and at sea.

We started the activity with a short program at the Port of Iligan grounds early morning of 01 June and ended with a motorcade around the city's major thoroughfares, Mercado said.

The program highlighted with messages shared among the participants by Iligan City Fire Marshall Alan A. Cabot of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Acting Station Commander Dennis Rem C. Labay of Philippine Coast Guard Iligan (PCG), and City Councilor Chonilo O. Ruiz- committee chairman on Environment and Natural Resources, represented by his staff.

The closing statement was delivered by Engr. Antoine D. Seva, president of SOPI, Iligan City Chapter, who is also the concurrent chairman on the Committee on Health, Safety and Environment of the Iligan Bay Chamber of Industries (IBCI).

Each speaker has pointed out their corresponding duties and responsibilities, implementing the rules and regulations to improve environment management, pollution prevention and cleaner production methods, at seas and ports in particular.

On the other hand, Port Manager Mercado said they have outlined calendar of activities, joining the nationwide observance of Environment Month in June.

Vessel inspection is scheduled on the first week of June depending on its arrival at the Iligan Port.

Schedule of "Coastal Clean Up Day" in Barangay Poblacion, this City, is set on the second week.

Rounds of inspection to ports (government and private) falls on the third week. The team shall include inspection of buildings and office in these ports, said Mercado.

The Team, composed of representatives from the PPA, PCG, BFP, SOPI, and Fishery/Plant and Veterinary Quarantine Offices, will conduct the inspection.

It is expected that the findings and recommendations discussed with the Team and the port representative during the last year's inspection have been acted upon by the port concern and that this is an opportune time to have the Team assist in the identification of the deficiency/new loss control opportunities in the area inspected, expressed Mercado.

The BFP has also scheduled Seminar/Fire Prevention Management lectures to participating departments and offices, Mercado added.

The month-long celebration will be highlighted with an Interport Fire Brigade Skills Competition, which is on its 7th year this 2009. (PIA Lanao del Norte)

Global Steel Philippines seeks import protection

Tuesday, 09 Jun 2009

It is reported that Global Steel Philippines Inc is seeking safeguards and tariff protection from the government as it struggles to keep its operations in Iligan City afloat amid the sluggish demand and mounting debts.

A highly placed source said that the technical working committee on Tariff and Related Matters would discuss the steel manufacturer’s request in a meeting next week. It added that it was now up to the company to prove injury to merit the safeguards it asked from the government.

A safeguard is a provisional measure that the trade secretary may impose on certain imports to provide temporary relief to the local industry pending findings of the Tariff Commission.

The Tariff Commission can either sustain the Trade secretary’s ruling or revert the decision like in the case of the cement sector, where former Trade secretary now Senator Mr Manuel Roxas II imposed safeguards.

Solid Waste Ordinance sa Iligan, pasado na sa SP

Wednesday, 10 June 2009

Gipangamahanan ang maong ordinansa ni City Councilor Chonilo Ruiz, Chairman sa Committee on Environment ug Committee on Health and Sanitation. (mta/boy decena)

RP mining investments to hit $628m

INVESTMENTS in the Philippine mining sector is projected to hit $628 million this year, up 9 percent from $577 million in 2008, a government official said yesterday.

“We’re still bullish. Metal prices are on the rebound like copper, gold and nickel,” said Mines and Geosciences Bureau director Horacio Ramos, noting that cumulative investments had reached $2.11 billion since the mining was revived in 2004.

He said the government was confident of reaching its goal of generating $10 billion to $12 billion in cumulative investments by 2013.

Ramos said about one-fourth of the projected investments this year, or $157 million, were realized in the first quarter.

Expansion projects include the Palawan HAPL nickel, Rapu-Rapu, Canatuan silver-gold, Sto. Tomas copper, Teresa gold, Berong nickel, Maco nickel, SIRC nickel, PASAR copper smelter; Philsaga Co-o gold and the Acoje nickel of Euro Nickel and Rusina Mining.

Projects that are on the construction and development stage are the Carmen copper, Palawan HPAL nickel line 2, Masbate gold, Canatuan base metal, Iligan ferronickel smelter plant, Manticao ferronickel smelter, Isabela nickel, Philsaga gold expansion and Acoje nickel heap leach.

Those in the feasibility and financing stage are the Tampakan copper project, Surigao Sumitomo HPAL, Boyongan copper, Itogon gold, Nonoc nickel, Mindoro nickel, Akle cement, Runruno gold, Far Southeast gold, and King-King copper-gold project.

There are about seven projects in the advanced exploration stage, three of which are directly managed by the government.

The Mining Bureau remains keen on achieving a “mining country” status by 2011. Othel V. Campos

Launches and Prizes: The 16th Iligan National Writers Workshop
by Steven Patrick P.C. Fernandez

The 16th edition of the Iligan National Writers Workshop wrapped up its sessions last May 29 in Iligan City.

http://www.msuiit.edu.ph/images/news/web/inww/INWW-panelists.jpg

Sixteen fellows went through the experience of having their works scrutinized in the INWW held at the Elena Tower Inn in Iligan City. From May 25 to 29, the panel and the fellows praised or panned poems, short stories, and a play hoping to hone skills and invigorate Philippine writing with new talents and insights.

The Iligan workshop, one of three institutionalized in the country, culminated with the Jimmy Y. Balacuit Sr. Awards to the most promising works.

The INWW distinguishes itself from the other workshops because it has repositioned regional literature from the fringes to the mainstream. This workshop draws participants from across cultures ensuring equal representations from Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. A bursary, too, from the Manuel E. Buenafe family prescribes that the 16th fellow be a Muslim or a lumad.

The scheme for a multi-lingual and multi-cultural workshop identifies the Iligan writeshop. Distinguishing the workshop, too, is the meticulous way proceedings are documented and published so that a run of the process of writing, criticism, and rewriting is kept for scholars to pore through. The Iligan workshop is the only workshop in the country that publishes its critiquing process.

This year, the INWW launched About Us, proceedings from last year’s workshop, and the Mindanao Forum (both edited by Godinez-Ortega), that anthologizes all fifteen keynote speeches from the start of the INWW in 1994. The speeches include those of National Artist Bien Lumbera, Cirilo Bautista, Ric de Ungria, Gemino Abad, Ophelia Alcantara-Dimalanta , Erlinda Alburo, Merle Alunan, Chari Lucero, Isagani Cruz, Deriada, Bautista, and those names that matter in contemporary Philippine Literature.

http://www.msuiit.edu.ph/images/news/web/inww/INWW-fellows.jpg

One other distinction: the INWW has initiated the practice to let former fellows who have made names in Philippine Literature deliver the keynote address during the opening program. This year, poet-critic Ralph Semino Galan delivered the address joining other alumni fellows who previously addressed past openings: Charlson Ong, Vicente Garcia Groyon III, Michael U. Obenieta, and Rebecca Anonuevo.

Tradition, too, calls for a performance of a literary work by the MSU-IIT Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG), and this year, IPAG transcreated Godinez-Ortega’ s poem “Camp Bushra on Inquirer Page One” in a mix of dance, drama, film, and performance art.

The merry mix of languages and genres brought together writers-critics- scholars who are well established in their language turfs. Joining Deriada and Galan were Tony Enriquez, German Gervacio, Victor Sugbo, Mac Tiu, Alunan, Lucero, Godinez-Ortega, An Lim, and this writer.

The INWW awards are named after the late Jimmy Y. Balacuit Sr. who, as Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, adopted the management of this workshop to anchor a writing program within the vision of the MSU-IIT. In his memory, his family has endowed cash prizes to the most promising writers in all genres awarded yearly by his wife Prof. Rosalinda C. Balacuit.

^^^^^^ I wonder why the city government is not concreting other streets of the city as needed. Instead they are working on these areas (as seen above) that doesnt need rehabilitation at the moment.

me too..but its the national government who funded this unscrupulous construction.. why do they reconstruct stable roads and leaved the rough Farm to market roads untouched?..kung mkaagi lang mo diha dapit sa Pagahan, Naawan, paskang dagko-a sa mga lubak-lubak, mushoot ngani imo lligid murag mabilin kay lalum kaayo ang bangag.danghang bag-ong nahuman nga girehab nga kalsada nga nangabuak lang gihapon..try to look the section infront of Mercury Drug Tibanga diba daghan ug dagko nga liki sa kalsada..less use lang gihapun.. :bash::bash:..a matter of political funding for the year 2010..:lol::lol:..lusot gihapon no?..:lol:

(mta)

^^ hopefully marealize nani into an R.A.!:banana:

111th Independence Day? I don't think so... :ohno:

I firmly believe that we Filipinos legitimately gained independence on July 4, 1946 which ended the Commonwealth era.

Legitimately, it's still 63 years on July 4, 2009. Some scholars and members of the academe believe such.

Lagi, nag-buot buot man gud to siya'g wagayway sa flag...

Dili bitaw, short-lived ra kaayo to nga celebration sa una and that the Spanish were not really 'ousted' by the Filipinos but by the Americans which resulted to the ceding of the Philippines along with Puerto Rico and Cuba. They bought us from Spain worth millions of dollars. We were under them as colony up to July 4, 1946.

Perhaps, it's safe to say that June 12, 1898 was the first hoisting of the Philippine flag by Aguinaldo which was a short lived independence celebration but July 4, 1946 is the real "hard core" Philippine Independence. It is sad to note but that's the truth. Sometimes, we Filipinos just love sugarcoating and prestige to get the title of the "first colony in Asia to have gained independence". We just love to "borrow" titles that's why we always fail in governance. It's like ignoring the facts and continuing a lie to rule the minds of our youth. Until now, nobody's legitimizing July 4 as the real independence.

It is not a crime to re-read history to be able to look for the legitimacy of our independence celebration and it's not also a crime to admit one's mistake too.

We're celebrating for the day our country got its "first" independence. The one proclaimed by Filipino fighters (independence from Spain). Short lived or not. Historians were right when they urged Macapagal to sign into law designating (back to) June 12 as the country's Independence Day.

Something to celebrate other than ID no matter how exact or varied date like New Year's Day, EDSA Revolution Day, Bataan Day (Araw ng Kagitingan), Labour Day, National Heroes' Day, Bonifacio Day, Christmas Day, Rizal Day, New Year's Eve, etc. Filipinos love to celebrate.

This is subject for debate as other historians believes the filipinos were tricked by the americans that time not to push for the final thrust and wait for them and thus happened the mock battle of manila bay between the spanish and americans.

Pero OT na yan dito...

TONZI
June 13th, 2009, 10:46 AM
^^ Well, last OT na lang ha. This is in connection bitaw with the 'independence' celebration.

That mock battle was already a transition from the Spanish to American colony. So, in short, Aguinaldo was unknowing of that pact between the Spanish and the Americans . He, as dictator, was not yet even in control of the whole archipelago. When they thought that we already had the whole nation independent, the Americans were already putting a stronghold of the entire archipelago with Aguinaldo, in the later days, running for his safety and running out of the country by leaving some of his men who lost some battles against the Americans. Was he able to put a good defense to really defend the constitution that they built? He even considered to what the Americans offered him and conceded. That alone as a fact is not basis for independence. Basis for independence should have been control of the whole archipelago, a stable government system and a good number of army that could have counteracted against the Americans but those were not present to his 'government'. It's a different story on how the Americans got their independence from Great Britain. At least, they really earned that by defeating a lot of big battles against the Brit's across America. Our's was only a bit of "little battles" and 'ambushes' through ransacking Spanish goods. And, when the Americans came much more 'little' battles were lost.

The "1898" independence was one of the turning points for the KKK's battle cry and I commend them to have gained that. But the transition from being a colony of the Spanish then to the Americans would also matter too.

This is where "truth" should be studied first by us Filipinos. We cannot grow as a nation if we do not consider what really happened in the past because we may just be celebrating a June 12 date which to many in the "world view" consider as a hoax. That is something that we cannot brush off as some historians of other nations would put us as a "laughing stock" because we disregard some facts in our history.

Well, so much for the OT as it's already June 13 now. Let's go back to ILIGAN CITY which really celebrates its charter on a factual date.

Fighting the war on terror with outsourcing

By Jason Gutierrez

MARAWI, Philippines (AFP) — When American consumers dial a toll-free hotline for customer service support, they may not be aware they are helping bring an end to a long-running insurgency half way across the world.

Some of the calls are routed to a call centre in the Philippines' southern Muslim heartland, the Southeast Asian theatre of the US-led war on terror where part of a new strategy is to smother the insurgency with job empowerment.

The US Agency for International Development through its Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) programme has teamed up with a business process outsourcing firm, known as a BPO, in a novel venture to train and employ youths in this Muslim stronghold.

The rationale is to teach them English and hire them for backroom jobs outsourced by American firms seeking to cut operational costs at home.

Those behind the scheme hope that with more money and improved living standards, many will be weaned away from violence and contribute to developing a region racked by 40 years of insurgency.

"We are hoping to give them stable, long-term employment," said Rene Subido, a GEM official who helped devise the plan.

"By giving them a stake in the development here, they will have more to lose if the war continues."

Subido said the Nevada-based BPO firm, the Hubport Group, had initially been apprehensive about setting up in the Muslim Mindanao but was won over by the talent and eagerness of the region's youth.

They set up a 24-hour back-room operation at Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) where 42 employees churn out web designs, software programmes and medical transcriptions for American clients.

Others specialise in technical support, guiding clients thousands of miles away as they trouble-shoot web pages.

No one had ever thought of setting up in the southern Philippines because of the violence, said Hubport chief operating officer Eric Manalastas during a recent tour of the facility by visiting diplomats.

He said the firm -- which also has offices in Singapore, Canada, Britain, Japan and Saudi Arabia -- believes the south has enough manpower "who if given the room to grow, can be harnessed into a highly efficient and competitive force that can match global standards".

A large part of the manpower will come from MSU's main campus in Marawi, an impoverished city on the shore of the picturesque Lanao lake where Arabic is widely taught and spoken.

It also is the heart of Islam in Mindanao, the Philippines' main southern island where Muslim separatists have been waging a decades-long rebellion to carve out an independent state.

Militants with links to Al-Qaeda and the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) are also known to operate in the area, which intelligence experts consider fertile ground for recruitment.

A small room inside a brick building has been transformed into a speech and computer laboratory, where local tutors teach English.

For computer programmer Muhammad Husshan, 20, working for Hubport means he will be able to send money to his parents and seven siblings living elsewhere in the south.

"I hope more young people will be given jobs and will be trained in companies like this," he said.

Like many here, Husshan believes that Muslims have been unjustly sidelined by the Manila government, but he added: "I think people would not pick up guns if they are busy with jobs."

Small numbers of US troops have been rotating in the southern Philippines since 2003, when President Gloria Arroyo sought help to crush Abu Sayyaf militants blamed for high profile kidnappings and bombings.

Remnants of Abu Sayyaf still roam the south, while tens and thousands remain displaced by 10 months of fighting between troops and the main insurgent group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The US government meanwhile has given millions in development aid, with promises of more funds if insurgents signed a peace accord.

"I think that shift in policy is helping more in the anti-terror war than the fighting," says Virgilio Leyretana, chairman of the Mindanao Economic Development Council.

"Of course, nothing can be solved overnight. And for as long as Mindanao is pictured as a troublesome place, businesses will shy away."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ILIGAN!!

Iligan has its beginnings in the village of Bayug, 2.5 kilometers north of the present Poblacion. It was the earliest pre-Spanish settlement of native sea dwellers, known as the Maragats. The monotony of indigenous life in the territory was broken when in the later part of the 16th century, the inhabitants of Iligan were subdued by the Visayan migrants from the island kingdom of Panglao.

In the accounts of Jesuit historian Fr. Francisco Combes, the Mollucan King of Ternate invaded Panglao. This caused Panglaons to flee in large numbers to Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte. In Dapitan, the surviving Prince of Panglao, Pagbuaya, received Legazpi's expedition in 1565. Later, Pagbuaya's son Manook was baptized Pedro Manuel Manook. The Christianized Manook subdued the Higaunon village in Bayug and established it as one of the earliest Christian settlements in the country. The settlement survived other raids from other enemies, and, because of their faith in God and in their patron saint, Saint Michael the Archangel, the early Iliganons moved their settlement from Bayug to Iligan.[1]

The name Iligan is from the Higaonon word "iligan" or "ilijan," meaning "fortress of defense" against frequent attacks by pirates and other hostile Mindanao tribes.

A stone fort called Fort St. Francis Xavier was built in 1642 where Iliganons sought refuge during raids by bandits. But again, the fort sank due to floods. Another fort was built and this was named Fort Victoria or Cota de Iligan.

In 1850, because of floods, Don Remigio Cabili, then Iligan's governadorcillo, built another fort and moved the poblacion of the old Iligan located at the mouth of Tubod River west of the old market to its present site.

Iligan was already a town of the once undivided Misamis Province in 1832. However, it did not have an independent religious administration because it was part of Cagayan de Oro, the provincial capital. It was one of the biggest municipalities of Misamis Province. In 1903, the Moro Province was created. Iligan, because of its Moro residents was taken away from the Misamis Province. Then Iligan became the capital of the Lanao District and seat of the government where the American officials lived and held office. Later in 1907 the capital of the Lanao District was transferred to Dansalan.[2]

The Spaniards abandoned Iligan in 1899, paving the way for the landing of the American forces in 1900. In 1914, under the restructuring of Moroland after the end of the Moro Province (1903-1913), Iligan became a municipality composed of eight barrios together with the municipal district of Mandulog. After enjoying peace and prosperity for about 40 years, Iligan was invaded by Japanese forces in 1942. The liberation in Iligan by the Philippine Commonwealth forces attacked by the Japanese held sway in the city until 1944 to 1945 when the war ended. On November 15, 1944, the city held a Commonwealth Day parade to celebrate the end of Japanese atrocities and occupation.[3]

Using the same territorial definition as a municipality, Iligan became a chartered city of Lanao del Norte on June 16, 1950. It was declared a first class city in 1969 and was reclassified as First Class City "A" on July 1, 1977 by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 465. In 1983, Iligan was again reclassified as a highly urbanized city.

OWWA-10 releases P700-T to displaced OFWs in Iligan City
by Lorry V. Gabule

Iligan City (17 June) -- Together with a Certificate, fourteen (14) Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) were awarded Livelihood Assistance on the celebration of the 111th Philippine Independence Day in city.

"We turned over the checks, each amounting PhP 50,000 at the Office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)—Iligan City / Lanao del Norte District Office," said Roseller D. Bartolome, Overseas Worker Welfare Officer and concurrent Program Services Division head of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Region 10 based in Cagayan de Oro City.

The OFWs who were displaced / affected by and laid off due to the global financial crisis availed the Filipino Expatriate Livelihood Support Fund (FELSF), a program which is an integral component of the comprehensive OFW reintegration program under President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo's Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).

Bartolome further said the FELSF is a non-collateralized loan window which serves as an economic safety net for OFWs retrenched as a result of company shut down, downsizing, and streamlining due to economic recession.

Many had responded to OWWA's call especially those terminated on or after October 15, 2008, Bartolome revealed. Of these 14 recipients, 11 come from Iligan City, one from Tangub City of Misamis Occidental, and two (2) from Tubod and Lala, province of Lanao del Norte.

In a day or two, a beneficiary's application for this program can be approved as long as the following pertinent loan documentary requirements be complied and submitted such as Proof of OWWA contribution- passport, overseas employment certificate, employment contract, Proof of displacement- POLO certification, letter of termination / company certification, Business proposal, Financial statement for existing business, Promissory note, Marital consent / authorization, Proof of relationship- birth, marriage certificates, Application form with 2x2 picture, and Barangay permit.

"We have extended a maximum loan amount of PhP 50,000 for FELSF loan, with an interest rate of 5% only per annum, payable within 24 months, having three (3) months grace period," explained Bartolome.

"For Iligan City, we financed eligible projects like swine fattening, fish vending, piggery, sari-sari store, seafood distributor, bakery, food processed products, dressed chicken distributor and, fitness and amusement center," said the program services head.

The monthly amortization could be remitted / paid directly to Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP)-designated bank, or through postal money order.

"Since February 2009, there were already 82 beneficiaries, with a total amount granted of PhP4,100,000.00 for region 10," Bartolome concluded. (PIA Lanao del Norte)

KALAHI-CIDSS-Makamasang Tugon Program completes P10.5M projects in Bacolod, Lanao del Norte
by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob

Iligan City (17 June) -- At least Php10.5 million was spent to complete 14 sub-projects under the Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan–Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS)- Makamasang Tugon (MT) program in Bacolod town, Lanao del Norte.

Poker and gambling center OK’d in Iligan City, Mindanao (http://www.mindanaoan.com/2009/06/17/poker-and-gambling-center-okd-in-iligan-city-mindanao/)

June 17, 2009 by Taga Mindanao

MINDANAO -So is it just me or is poker really becoming more and more popular here in the Philippines particularly here in Mindanao? Some of my friends are getting hooked on the game and I don’t mean online poker or that popular Texas Hold ‘Em poker application in Facebook. I mean poker games in private homes, special facilities, gambling centers and the like.

The latest poker and gaming facility to be given the green light is one that’s owned by the Kagayanon Sports Club, Inc. It will be located inside the Iliganon Convenience Store, Coffee Shop and Restobar located along Quezon Avenue, Barangay Palao, Iligan City, Mindanao.

This poker center in Iligan City will reportedly be enclosed and of course, no minors will be allowed inside the area. How the owners or operators could assure that no one below 18 could ever get in the said poker facility, that I’m not too sure. Still, Kagayanon Sports Club, Inc. already has the approval of the Iligan City Council and I’m pretty sure a lot of people will closely monitor this center especially now that the schoolyear has begun.

If anybody out there could send a photo of this poker and gaming facility, please don’t hesitate to CONTACT MINDANAOAN. Thanks a heap!

Cong.

(mta)

THe package nearer to the price of 10,000 pesos has an AMD LE 1230 processor 2.7ghz (or something) with 1gb ram, 80 gb hdd, and built vga (i just dont know the capacity) while the one near the 13,000 range has an AMD 5000 x2 processor (4.0 ghz - up freq), wth 1 gb ram, 80 gb hdd, built vga.

There is a PC store next to City Plaza on the opposite side of the City Plaza from Marina Christina Hotel. I can not remember the name of the place but when you walk in the place is crammed from the floor to the ceiling with all kinds of Name Brand PC items. I have been to this store several times and bought things there. As far as I am concerned, very reliable and good place to do business with.

Hi All,

Just planing our trip to Iligan in a few months time, just need some help with information about the ferries.

1) does any company run a ferry from Cebu to Iligan or do we have to go to CDO and bus the rest of the way?

2) Does any company sail from Iligan to Bacolod? or do we need to travel to Cebu first?

Thanks for the help! can't wait to be in Iligan for the Fiesta!

I dont know lang ha, coz im not sure as i only overheard this from one of their sales persons but it seems that they have a branch in Tacloban. They said nga mas "lucrative" daw diri sa Iligan and Normin for PCs. That was according to somebody from there when I bought PCs there. I think si cyberwizard is one of the partners of this pc sales store.

1. There's weekly ferry service from Cebu to Iligan... Cokaliong, Cebu Ferries and Gothong Lines... :)
You could also go to CDO if you want different schedules.. but I would prefer you to take the direct to Iligan for cheaper cost.. :)

2. There's also Bacolod - Iligan plying route.. Its currently served by Superferry.. but if you want faster way.. There's a flight served by PAL Express and Cebu Pacific from Bacolod to Cebu and Cebu to CDO.. but you'll have to land travel from CDO to Iligan.. either Bus or Taxi.. :)

Thanks for that Boom Box, not really interested in speed, but do not really want to have to do the bus between CDO & Iligan with all the bag's so direct to Iligan would be far more easy. now all I have to do is find the ferry timetables...

Anybody know the web sites for each ferry company?
