mao rong December 4th, 2009, 06:21 PM ^^ilang levels ang Gaisano? RML December 4th, 2009, 06:39 PM It has 4 levels. Napakabagal ng development ng mall na ito. Wala na atang pera ang may-ari kasi hindi na tinapos ang construction. Yung exterior wall wala pang pintura hanggang ngayon. Hindi parin operational ang movie houses. mao rong December 4th, 2009, 06:41 PM ^^when ba nag start yung construction? kikoKICKS December 4th, 2009, 06:53 PM i am not a troll on the loose, i am an just an iliganon who wants to share. if anybody here doesnt like the word shabuland, okey il say the road to SARAY!! ok, everybody happy now? youré the icing on the cake.. -aspen- December 4th, 2009, 08:22 PM I don't condemn your presence here, aspen. In fact, I even like it that we have grown in numbers. I think you provide a good balance in the thread reporting not just what positive things are happening or about to happen in Iligan but also the bad things that happen and about to happen. My only problem with your post is that - it's written on bold letters. You don't have to do that especially when you're not saying a very important matter. Nonetheless, your messages are okay. Stick around and continue posting. You don't need to post positive news all the time. sorry my friend, but that's my style! and yeah, il just be around the corner.. Wind Shear December 5th, 2009, 01:54 AM sorry my friend, but that's my style! and yeah, il just be around the corner.. You failed the netiquette test. Boldface letters is intended to emphasize content and underlined letters is used to fill in the content. However, you misuse and abuse it. Abi na lang nimo ang tanan members sa forum dili mobasa sa imong mga posts. They can't just update the thread in daily basis. And number two, how can I post if I have nothing to post. Remember that this is not a chat. Not to mention that urban developments in Iligan is slow (in my opinion). So, my suggestion is invite more home-based Iliganons to join SSC. Welcome to SSC-Iligan. bentong December 6th, 2009, 06:39 AM It's because the jeepney drivers plying between these cities complained of the low fares of Super 5 and Rural Transit kaya ibinalik na sa dati. Not only the jeepney drivers are benefited by the increase in the bus fare, but also Iligan as well. It will actually force people within Iligan and in nearby municipalities in Lanao and Misamis to shop in the city instead of going to CdeO. If mahal man gud ang plitihon, mas mprefer na lang ang mga tawo nga diri mamalit kysa moadtog lain lugar. I remember sauna, we used to go to CdeO and Ozamiz to shop and watch movies. Now that Iligan has G-mall and Unitop, dili na ko hilig moadto anang mga lugara. Actually, I'm already satisfied with our Gmall and Unitop. And I've heard that the G-mall cinemas are almost done, so that means samot na jud kong di na masuki sa CdeO and Ozamiz. :) TONZI December 6th, 2009, 06:54 AM Aspen, i know you are still rascof and that other username who use the bold and underlined font. If you get bored with your life here in Iligan, then consider going to Cebu or other places so you'll get satisfied. You may continue to shout your disgust over your boring life in this city but we who are born in this city will continue to cherish our simple lives here. We may dream of fancy lights, sprawling malls, sumptuous taste of restos that the other cities have BUT with Iligan as it is, we love it and will continue to live the usual Iliganon life that we experience here. Continuing your shoutouts of disgust will not help yourself at all. The problem is with you and not the city. So, if you're bored get out of the city!:lol: bentong December 6th, 2009, 07:03 AM haha..just like the city itself, mingaw!! mabibo raning syudara during new year, its charter day, fiesta, kalag-kalag ug pasko..the rest of the year, well its up to you to describe kay kung ako napud musulti daghan nasad masuko dire! just wanna share this quote, 'kung tinuod masuko kung dili tinuod dili masuko' I wanna share just a little of my observation base sa akong experience sa akong pagkalaagan nga homeboy... ayaw lang ka-shock kung makadungog ka nga naay homeboy nga laagan ky tinuod na gaexist.. I've been to cities like Quezon, Paranaque, Makati, Mactan, Cebu, and CdeO, Pagadian, Tangub, Dipolog, Dapitan and etc... Isa sa akong nanotice, I mean usual jd, ang mga cities with predominantly short buildings like in Mactan, Ozamiz, Dipolog and Iligan, gamay ra jud na manglaag especially around 10am-4pm. Ang rason kay hastang inita pd woi.. That's why, kung ikaw naa sa Iligan anang mga orasa, naa pa kay gana magsuroy2? In my observeration na pud noh, Iliganons, especially the youth are slowly becoming like those we see in Blade, Dracula, Twilight and New Moon.. nahimo nag mga vampira ang mga Iliganon... Kabantay lang ko manggawas na ang mga pipz sa hapon around 5 then mangulig 12 or kadlawon na jud. Sa una, well di pd ko ingon ana ka tigols, ang centro ky mingaw na jud kau na. Sa buntag mi manglaag2 actually, in the outskirts of the city, in timoga, beaches, and waterfalls.. Maski sauna katong fully operational pa ang tanan heavy industries sa Iligan, daghan pa wawarts ang mga people, gamay ra jud mangadto sa centro, hinuon to Ozamiz or CdeO and in the outskirts of the city manglaag. Unsa may laagan nimo pd? Now Iligan is slowly aligning itself with the trend today in demographics and in economy. The first time I went to G-mall, nshock ko sa interior, because naanad na ko nga simple ra jud ang mga business establishments within the city. They're simply there to cater to the needs of the people, now they're there to cater to the modern taste of the people too. Don't worry aspen, soon enough mabibo ra ni atong syudad. And don't forget, be happy :) WawaY[625] December 6th, 2009, 07:04 AM dako pa gyud ang parking. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1000773.jpg ^^ naay pula nga plaka na naka park  TONZI December 6th, 2009, 07:23 AM ^^ di na na katingalahan nang pula nga plaka. There's actually a solution to that. Do what they do in other countries, which is, cover the streets so that the shoppers wouldn't get exposed under the scorching heat of the sun. Blueleo December 6th, 2009, 05:53 PM Pantao Ragat, Lanao del Norte Should be included for Martial Law - DIMAPORO December 6, 2009 TUBOD, Lanao del Norte--Congressman Abdullah Dimaporo said that Pantao Ragat, Lanao del Norte should be included as one area where martial law should be imposed as declared by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to maintain peace and order situation in Mindanao. December 5, President Arroyo declared martial law in Cotabato City, the provinces of Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao following the savaged killings of 57 people, composed of 30 journalists, wife of Buluan Vice Mayor Esmael Mangudadato, his sister and sister-in-law, lawyers, supporters and passersby last November 23 on orders allegedly by Datu Unsay Mayor Andal Ampatuan, Jr. The reports said that the victims were on board of a six-vehicle convoy going to Shariff Aguak to file the certificate of candidacy of Mangudadato led by his wife Genalyn for running as governor in Maguindanao in the May 2010 Elections. They were flagged down reportedly by more than 100 fully armed men allegedly commandeered by Ampatuan and were brought to a place where all the victims were shot to death and covered them by the use of a backhoe. Rep. Dimaporo, (2nd District, Lanao del Norte), said that the people in the municipality of Pantao Ragat are living in fear as it is controlled by its Vice Mayor Lacson Lantud, who has a private army, composed of more than 200 Cafgus (Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Units), fully armed and even more powerful compared to the weapons use by the government soldiers. Vice Mayor Lantud seiged a barangay in Pantao Ragat, squat the area full of coconut trees and burned the houses of the people. Lantud’s Cafgus was composed originally with 30 members but now has gone up to more than 200 as it is strengthened through the help of the Philippine Army (PA). The Mindanao lawmaker said that the private army of Lantud should be dismantled as it is now one of the actions by the government to avoid the repeat of the worst Maguindanao massacre and to maintain peace and order in the land. It was reported that Lantud has fully controlled all the agencies of the government, including the employees of the COMELEC (Commission on Elections) in Pantao Ragat, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), and teachers of the Department of Education (DepEd). Because of his power, Lantud can forcibly assign or reassign teacher or any government employee of his town, promote or demote them without the corresponding adjustment of salaries. Dimaporo said for some reason Lantud has great influenced on whoever would be the commanders of the brigade, battalion, and company who were assigned in Pantao Ragat. For policy consideration of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Dimaporo said, the continuous influence of Lantud to the military and police must be investigated and put an end to it to effect peace and order in the town and in the province. kikoKICKS December 6th, 2009, 06:02 PM ngano man kiko, naa ka UAE? diba naa may precincts diha sa embassy? Iligan is unique with its small town charm and laid back atmosphere. the city has some geographic limitations which will hinder further expansion, especially in the downtown area. The city govt should focus more attention is bringing development to the Northeast area. Land there is relatively cheap and there is substantial potential for inland expansion. Coming from my own experience, looking at tall and gigantic buildings gets tiring after a few years. sansan December 6th, 2009, 07:40 PM Well instead on asking for more malls, how about reviving the industrial sector. The government should focus on this. I agree, bentong! We were very progressive back in the 90s even without a mall... or a big department store. I have friends who "love the city life", where malls and bars sprout like mushrooms left and right... so off they left Iligan for Cebu, Manila, and the foreign lands. Sure they loved the malls, sure they reveled in their gimiks and night life... but then they all tell me one thing: they miss Iligan. I always say to my friends who envy Manila to try living here and I'll bet they'll be itching to go back to Iligan in less than a year... and it turns out I ALWAYS win. But then again, siguro there are really people who find beauty in the hustle and bustle that is Cebu and Manila... and there are those who find beauty in the simplicity that is Vigan, Batanes, and the towns of Laguna. I am one of the latter. Of course naman, I wish we'll have more street lights, gushing water 24/7, effective government agencies, and nice, eco-friendly parks to top all that... but, I don't know about all of you, I still want to see the Iligan (or even just a hint of it) I grew up with. I still want to see the tartanilyas. Next time be honest kasi... :shifty::shifty::shifty: It doesn't matter if his name wasn't mentioned, especially now that Iligan is a lone district. To be honest about this, I was shocked when I heard of the news about the cheating that took place during the last elections. And to think that the person involved was someone I personally know - a relative of my high school buddy - was even a more shocking news to me. I have known the young Dimaporos through my HS classmate who's a member of the clan, and I have known them to be persons of high moral and integrity. I have been to their residence in Corinthian Gardens, dined with Madam Anging as well as the children, and I was a true living witness to how behaved and morally upright the family was. That was about 6 or 7 years ago though. The young Dimaporos are well schooled. They attended Brent International School in Pasig, and later, De La Salle University in college. A few of the siblings studied at some prestigious schools abroad. At the time when I was at their house, I overheard them talking about their investments, so I can really tell that the Dimaporos are a wealthy clan. They have apartments in L.A. (I think in Chicago too) and who knows where else. So, all these, when put together, would give you a picture that the family is stable and secure enough not to seek for public office anymore. I guess it's just in the blood that they want to serve in public office, just like their lolo was for a long time. I have no idea how the young Dimaporo manage his district, so I can't rate him. But based on what I have known him alone, I would expect highly from him. Halatang mapulitiko itong si g@gong Cruz at pinabayaan si Varf lumaban mag-isa. the time the closure of nsc, it was not yet cruz who ran the wheel but it was that gonggong quiajono, he did nothing to make iligan move on but just kept sitting pretty, waiting to for a miracle and it didnt came so he did the most stupid thing in the whole wide world, he cut the salaries of local agencies like city hospital because iligan has no more money because of the closure of nsc...and to think it wasng nsc who was paying taxes but all the industries and corporations that are still present as of today. come to think of it, instead uplifting all the workers of city hospital, he instead built a terminal which now, mariajosef, ambot lang...claro kau na gbulsa ang uban kwarta kay la jud g.simento tanan...and then came after quijano and till to cruz, they keep on saying that all govt employees under the city goverment will receive their salaries late because again of that stupid reason that iligan has no money...common local officials, where are the taxes that all the industries in iligan are paying annually, where is it??!!! and lastly, please vote not the trapo kind of politicians this coming election!! -aspen- December 7th, 2009, 06:13 PM http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010445-1.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010542.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010541.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010515.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010529.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010530.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010531.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010532.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010535.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010536.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010538.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010539.jpg i dont understand why they set up a gym? its better a resto, i mean another jollibee and on the other side is mcdo or kfc bah..for me i think this will not click for long. and they should have a SELECT mart not that ordinary kind of store. anyway, we are not the owners. we will just wait and see... The gym owners are into fitness... themselves. They would have one, one way or the other. Below the resto bar would be a first-class coffee shop -- sort of like Starbucks. On the opposite side of it just below where the gym is would be a pizza parlor, but the owner was debating if they'll go with it or not as the gym needs an additional space for the earo exercises. From what I've gathered, the gym is making money, although it can make more if you and your friends will enroll. :) The gym has a fine lines of equipment that's of first-class standard. There's a hot and cold shower too, free use of towels, and soon, massage services for a good price rate. There's also a well-trained personal instructor for those who'll need one. It's the only gym of its kind in Iligan so far and you're getting your money's worth for sure. Here's the gym rates: P2,200 - annual membership P2,000 - for students P800 - monthly P500 - monthly for students If you want a try-out, here's the rates: P1,200 - monthly P1,000 - monthly for students Per visit rates: P150 - regular P100 - students RML December 7th, 2009, 07:49 PM the time the closure of nsc, it was not yet cruz who ran the wheel but it was that gonggong quiajono, he did nothing to make iligan move on but just kept sitting pretty, waiting to for a miracle and it didnt came so he did the most stupid thing in the whole wide world, he cut the salaries of local agencies like city hospital because iligan has no more money because of the closure of nsc...and to think it wasng nsc who was paying taxes but all the industries and corporations that are still present as of today. come to think of it, instead uplifting all the workers of city hospital, he instead built a terminal which now, mariajosef, ambot lang...claro kau na gbulsa ang uban kwarta kay la jud g.simento tanan...and then came after quijano and till to cruz, they keep on saying that all govt employees under the city goverment will receive their salaries late because again of that stupid reason that iligan has no money...common local officials, where are the taxes that all the industries in iligan are paying annually, where is it??!!! and lastly, please vote not the trapo kind of politicians this coming election!! The diesel-electric service would initially start offering passenger services but would later enable passengers bound for the Laguindingan airport to check-in their luggage at a local station from whence it would be routed straight to the airport. However, before construction starts, Buenaventura said the project still has to hurdle a number of obstacles, first of which is the restoration of the P13.2-million operating budget of the Mindanao Railways Project Office (MRPO) earlier scratched by the Department of Budget and Management. Rep. Rufus B. Rodriguez (2nd District, Cagayan de Oro), author of House Bill No. 1855 (creating the Mindanao Railways Corporation and providing funds for its operation) has assured the restoration of the full amount during the budget hearings for 2010. Besides the P51-million for the completion of the feasibility study (FS), Rodriguez said he would also lobby for an additional P100-million to commence acquisition for the 30-meter right-of-way (ROW) in Cagayan de Oro next year. A further P2-billion is needed to complete the ROW acquisition and start construction. “It usually takes 5-7 years to develop a railway project,” said DOTC Undersecretary for Rails Guiling A. Mamondiong, who is also Special Action Officer for the MRS. Mamondiong said the FS for the Cagayan de Oro-Iligan Corridor has been completed with the Cagayan de Oro-Davao-General Santos line ongoing and the Iligan-Zamboanga City line now undergoing technical assessment. The project has been endorsed by the Infrastructure Committee of the RDC X and will be part of the agenda in the 84th meeting of the Regional Development Council which will be conducted on December 11, 2009 in Malitbog, Bukidnon. After its approval and endorsement by the RDC-X, the project is next slated to be evaluated by the National Economic & Development Authority’s Investment Coordinating Council (ICC) technical committee and then endorsed to the NEDA Board for final approval. Earlier, the NEDA-X, which is the Secretariat of the RDC-X, facilitated the drafting of an statement of support signed by the RDC Chairperson, Gov. Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo of Camiguin, indicating that the project is among the priority projects of the region Mamondiong said the government is looking at a joint facility of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Iran with a minimal 2% interest and 25-year payback period to finance the bulk of the project. DOTC is also talking with China and South Korea for supplier credits. Earlier, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Spain were also being sought for possible ODA assistance. Buenaventura is confident the MRS would easily hurdle the ICC benchmarks for both the economic and financial rate of returns (EIRR/FIRR) of railway systems. “We are starting the project in the Cagayan de Oro-Iligan Corridor (CIC) are since the feasibility studies have shown it has the highest ridership in the entire Mindanao and showed very impressive’ EIRR and FIRR. Most recent project estimates have placed the total project cost at P66.5-billion (US$1.33-billion). It is envisioned to be implanted in four phases: initially from Laguindingan to Cagayan de Oro City; second from Laguindingan to Iligan City; third from Cagayan de Oro to Phividec area in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and the fourth phase from Iligan City to Linamon town, Lanao del Norte. The project aims to cut the present 90-minute travel time by buys between Cagayan de Oro and Iligan to 15-20 minutes. The initial Mindanao strategic railway development plan will link urban centers like Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog, Marawi, Cotabato and Davao cities. uonno December 8th, 2009, 02:40 AM ^^ yah lucky for me to see those oldies ,you're dad's right those old places i mentioned was "IN" that time.though i was just a child that time pero nkaapas pko sa time like enjoying some cerveza with matching lumi of big dipper and enjoying LSA's canteen special the siopao with vegetable and meatballs.... yah your right, masarap talaga yung siopao sa LSA yan kasi ang palagi kng snack pag recess na lalo na pag may malamig na pepsi .nakakamis tuloy. iliganon Boy December 8th, 2009, 05:47 AM http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010445-1.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010542.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010541.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010515.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010529.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010530.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010531.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010532.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010535.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010536.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010538.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010539.jpg wow ganda naman ng fitness center, next year mo transfer ko dinha, pila ang monthly and membership fee? Now, how I wish that the owner would stay humble... and would rather stay at the backseat of the resto especially when he's not there to warmly greet the guests or customers if he's really serious about the business. A resto business is a service oriented business, and somehow, that didn't reflect on his involvement and services in his very OWN business. I think somebody has to teach him management 101. BobNewYorkUSA December 9th, 2009, 05:16 PM So many memories of things past and some still present being mentioned here. These are some of the things that originally attracted my attention to Iligan when I first began seeing pictures of it on the internet. I grew up in what was then a very small town. The shopping area was not much more than one block long. There were no big chain stores and all of the businesses were independently owned and operated. For " big shopping " or for the purchase of things not available in the town where I lived, a nearby city about the size of Iligan was about 10 miles away and we would go there regularly. I have seen and experienced things in Iligan that are very reminiscent of that city near to when I grew up which no longer exist today. That city went under what was known as an " Urban Renewal Project " in the late 1960's and early 1970's. All of the older and long established business areas and shopping areas were demolished block by block and replaced by larger new buildings. Many people were displaced from their apartments and in some cases individual houses as well. Large multi-level parking areas were constructed to go along with the new bigger, taller and up to date buildings. Gone were many of the small independent small shops and stores that were like landmarks for many years and the proprietors that ran these businesses as well. Gone were all of the interesting and unique signs that hung out over the sidewalks and displays in the store windows. It was in some cases like the character and soul of this city had been stripped out of it forever. Now this is not to say that the re-built city was not attractive or there was anything particularly bad about it, I guess you could say the whole landscape and individuality of it as it was , would be gone forever. Even though Iligan is in a different place in the world and it is now a completely different era in time and history, many things I see in Iligan and some of the good experiences I have had there enabled me to once again almost seem like I was in a place I remembered from my own childhood. My dealings I have had in Iligan with some of the stores, restaurants and other types of business establishments had been very similar to the way many things were here a long time ago, good things, not so much of the hustle and bustle and the hurried atmosphere that I deal with here today. I never thought I would ever relive some of those experiences that I found in Iligan. I understand how many may feel about wanting new things like more shopping malls and other things and to an extent thats good although it should not be at the total loss of so many of the traditional things that are there now. Remember how Iligan is today, it is great that so much of it is being captured and preserved in Digital Photography for some day many of these traditional and long established things could be gone forever, replaced by everything new. The way I have seen many new things come along in Iligan in the past few years, to me, that is the way to do it, one, two or a few things at a time. Thats better than having large portions of the city demolished all at once and then completely replaced. This way it will give many of you that are , well lets just say a lot younger than me, things to fondly remember in your later years ! The place hardly had enough space to accommodate her guests, so some guests went in to greet my sister and left right away.:lol: again, the food was great (I love their steak and fruit shakes!!); the staff were attentive, gracious and accommodating; the ambiance was far from bad; the location is accessible and parking was never a problem. Maybe his kuya Renzo should since he's a very smart, highly-educated, down-to-earth person with high moral aptitude. :) Oh... I'll take note of the steak! Must be some cozy place, huh? I'm quite intrigued with the snotty owner part, though. Pwede mag expound? I heard the owner also cooks some food on the menu... how true? Maxblue21 December 9th, 2009, 06:45 PM Hi everyone! There are now 3 or 4 of these presentations on Youtube. More recently I was able to se a stage performace of the " March " or dance done on stage at MSU-IIT. Now this live performance by the Iligan City Jail Inmates, and I think they did a great job perofrming this. Thanks to one of my Iligan Friends, I now have an English Translation to the words and phrases of " Iligan March " to give me a better comprehension of the song. Occasionally a poster here on SSC-Iligan has asked me why I think Iligan is " Amazing ". One of many reasons are shown on these links. This is so, Cruz said, because the project is an on going one as this has been started long before the start of the election period. Nevertheless, Cruz however added, the city still sent a communication to the Commission on Elections, that it be exempted from the election ban. It was also learned that E. Japitana, Department Manager for the Loans and Services of the Land Bank of the Philippines has also wrote the Comelec requesting for exemption of the said project. The LBP, it might be noted is the conduit bank of the P495 million water project, P445 million of which is being loaned from the World Bank. Last November 21, groundbreaking ceremonies at sitio Abaga, barangay Suarez was held and Japitana was among the guests. Cruz had declared the project as a “flagship project” shortly his being elected as mayor on his first term in 2004. The project faced several setbacks but at last, with the signing of the contract for the civil works component between the city and the winning bidder and the subsequent nod of the Sanguniang Panlungsod shortly thereafter, the project is seen as already taking off. The infrastructure component though has still to undergo rebidding as the first bidding was considered a failure. kikoKICKS December 10th, 2009, 09:44 AM hello guys,im a newbie:)can i come onboard...im from iligan too:cheers: WELCOME @maialee Taegon December 10th, 2009, 09:44 AM hello guys,im a newbie:)can i come onboard...im from iligan too:cheers: Have our hearfelt welcome bai! Taegon December 10th, 2009, 09:48 AM Deliberation on P115 million city development fund up By NORA SORIÑO Updated December 9, 2009 12:00 AM Mindanao Goldstar Daily ILIGAN CITY -- The P115 million city development funds and its deliberation will be the main matter to be taken up during the envisioned full council meeting of the city development council on the third week of this month of December. City Mayor Lawrence Cruz was quoted as saying that the amount consists of the 20% Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) for the city for 2010 “for infrastructure, economic and social development” of the area. Cruz also said that during said occasion, he will also give his state of the city report (Socr) and should the mayor be lucky enough; he will be serving his third term, after the 2010 elections. It was noted that except for former Mayor Camilo P. Cabili who was city mayor for almost 30 year, no mayor has been elected for the third term yet. uonno December 10th, 2009, 10:37 AM hello guys,im a newbie:)can i come onboard...im from iligan too:cheers: Welcome Maialee.:cucumber::banana::banana: Tower-mad December 10th, 2009, 11:00 AM I remember nung unang pinalabas yung "Annie" sa maharlika theater, i think that was 1985, nanuod ako ng sine na nd nag paalam sa magulang ko...remember i was grade 5 then kaya pag uwi ko napalo ako ng balat ng troso.hehehe Oh my God! BobNewYorkUSA December 10th, 2009, 06:03 PM hey, Bob! wazzup wazzup? :) any particular place in Iligan that you'd like me to take pix of? @RML, Thanks for all of the pics you have been showing here the past couple of weeks. It certainly appears the Iligan is experiencing a lot of new Eateries ! Those Youtube Videos I mentioned in my last post really blew me away. This is something I never even thought of and while viewing and re-viewing them I thought to myself " What is Iligan going to show me next ! " . On one of the dance videos I was able to pause the video to get a good clear look at what it said on the backs of those ' T " shirts and I thought, what a way to advertise ! I thought it was great ! . This place is already on my list of a place I would like to see, or at least maybe a part of it, on my next visit. By " see " of course, that means as a visitor / tourist, Not as a " Guest " LOL . One place I had thoughts of going to on my recent visit was to see the local AM Radio Station DXRJ, since the online webstream for this station had been posted on the iligan.gov.ph website a while back. I have listened to the webstream occasionally. Although a good part of the time I can not understand the language ( I presume Bisaya ). The Station Identification and some of the commercials however are in English so that confirms to me that I am really listening to Iligan City, right here on my PC. This is something in Iligan I have yet to see anything in pics on it although maybe I have unknowingly seen the tower for it in a pic that has been posted here. I had plans on visiting DXRJ and one of my friends there most likely could have arranged that for me. As usual though I ran out of time so that too is something to look forward to on a future visit. Most of the ideas I get for things I want to see and / or do when I visit Iligan, I get those ideas from the pictures you and the other posters show here on SSC and also things I find about Iligan on Youtube. I see the pics first, and if it interests me then I try to go and see it in person. I walked by Highway 30 on Tibanga Highway probably about a week or two before your pics of the inside were taken. Thanks for showing it here. Now I have a better idea of whats in there. If I think of anything I'll let you know. Butch and I are friends, but he's older than me, so we really haven't caught each other in high school or college days. I know him because he's a friend of my older brother way back in their high school days in La Salle. Butch probably wasn't exactly someone you can approach easily - AT THAT TIME when he was still in college seeing he came from a well-off, and small, quite family. But I can guarantee you that things have changed now. He's no longer the shy Butch that you knew before. He has grown to be "man for others" and a servant of the people. In short, he has matured since the last time you've met him, and he has matured quite a lot. He's been in public office for 3 years now conducting youth oriented programs, most of which, are successfully accomplished through his efforts and personal finances. He gets frustrated all the time that the youths in Iligan are neglected by our local government when, in fact, they comprise half of the voting population of the city. Butch has studied human resources in a college in Manila after spending years in IMCC, and later, worked there until he got a job in Dubai, UAE. His experience there, according to him, was humbling and worthwhile. It's were he felt that humility is a virtue. He learned to interact with people coming from all social strata. He has learned that people are assets and so his program, when elected, is to help develop the assets that the local youths of Iligan have. He wants to invite investors to the city so that jobs will be made available to our fellow Iliganons who wouldn't want to work in other cities. And with his background and wide contacts, he may be successful in doing that. I believe 2 of the 5 BPOs in Iligan were products of his initiatives. For me, that's a testament to his dedication and truthfulness in helping our local youth utilized, improved and empowered. That's also a true test to his capability. I suggest that we give him a chance to be our servant. He's one of the very few young bloods in the current line ups for counselor. Almost all city counselor candidates we have are old and traditional. They're some of the reasons for the slow progress of our city. Butch will certainly add a new flavor to the local city government, because, like most of us, he is young, aggressive, decisive, idealistic, hardworking and strong. Most of our current city counselors aren't like that at all. They're old school, traditional, TRAPO, political, weak and chaotic. They just argue and debate all the time, that's why they haven't been productive. So, aspen, try to know Butch more. Find out what his agenda really is by talking to him in person, if he hasn't talked to you back when you were in college. He really is a nice person and very approachable - totally different from what you've known him before. I can give you his contact number and FB account if you like that. PM me. :) RML December 11th, 2009, 05:46 AM http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010632.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010633.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010634.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010637.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010638.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010639.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010640.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010641.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010643.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010644.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010645.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010646.jpg RML December 11th, 2009, 05:51 AM http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w133/torlayug/P1010674.jpg iliganon Boy December 11th, 2009, 06:12 AM This is good news! The place is owned by the Geronas. It's located in Tambo Highway just before the bridge going to Acmac, the rumored future site of SM Grand Mall - Iligan. It's a really nice place with a beautiful view. The interior design is so ethnic and the color scheme is rustic. I really like the place. It's like home away from home. Aside from taxes they generate, they can also provide jobs for the "tambay" professionals of the city. Katong mga graduates sa college bitaw nga gatambay kay wala pay masudlan nga trabaho. Actually, this is common in Cebu. Fresh graduates are most likely to apply for call center jobs samtang nangapply sa ilang mga gusto jud nga trabaho. :) Let's pray and hope for more jobs in Iligan. This is vital to the city's economy. More jobs = vibrant economy So di na jud maulaw molaag sa Gmall og uban pang stores kay naa na man wawartz :D bartholomew kuma December 11th, 2009, 04:55 PM padayun sa paglambo iligan! :D bag-o lang ko dre. so just a sort of introduction, i'm also iliganon. been in iligan sukad sukad pero dli taga-iligan ako parents. iligan has been my home ever since so it's just pleasing to see signs of progress in iligan. it's my first ever post, hehe, though i've already known about this thread long before pa, krun ra ko nag attempt og post kay pansin nako fresh pa ang mga posts kay last time napadpad ko dre nga site kay mrag weeks or months old na ang pinaka-last nga post. hehe. at least now going concern pa ang thread. credits sa tanan ga-maintain sa thread. i hope padayun japun ni bahalag unsa pa mahitabo, sa mulambo sa dli, basta hangtud naa pa ang iligan sa mapa. hehe. bartholomew kuma December 11th, 2009, 05:04 PM how about some direct flights to Iligan City airport,if im not mistaken it's in Ditucalan right?i'd like to try flying in straight to Iligan this time and not in Cagayan De Oro.all the best to Iligan and a peaceful and Merry Christmas to all.:) in case you haven't heard of Laguindingan airport, this airport which is currently being built in progress will replace the exisitng airport in CdeO. Laguindingan is i think approximately half-way between iligan and CdeO. I dont know what is the target date of completion and when it will get fully operational though. :) boom_box December 11th, 2009, 05:22 PM @bartholomew_kuma Welcome back again sa Iligan Thread.. RML December 11th, 2009, 06:33 PM I was in Gaisano Mall this evening and accidentally parked my car on the 3rd-level because the parking area on levels 1, 1.5, 2. and 2.5 were full. When I got out from my car, I saw a light beaming from a wall. Went closer to it until everything I was seeing from afar became clearer to me, and there I found out that it was a door leading to the movie houses. I stared on it for a while, looked at it thoroughly and was trying to memorize in my mind the details of what I was looking at. The place was busy. There were guys installing granite tiles...another group doing the paintings, some groups doing the electrical, lighting and whatnot. It looked like they were rushing what they're doing. Honestly, what I saw gave me a hint that the movie houses were being rushed so they can be opened to the public this xmas. But there were no words from Gaisano management about it yet. I wonder when would be the exact date of the opening of the movie houses. I honestly was thrilled with what I saw. I'll try to get some feedback from an insider within this weekend. And, you people will surely be the first persons to know. :D RML December 11th, 2009, 06:43 PM Hello bartholomew. It's nice to have you on here. Please stick around and continue posting. We would be glad to read your posts. :) I think our local politicians have not proposed for an airport before Laguindingan was constructed was because 1. they're weak 2. they're corrupt 3. the peace and order situation was terrible 4. they don't know what they're supposed to do as our local servants. padayun sa paglambo iligan! :D if we, Iliganons, really want Iligan to progress, then let's all kick Laurence's butt hard. He's the biggest stumbling block to Iligan's progress. If we will get rid of him, the flow of economic progress to the city would be smooth and fast. RML December 11th, 2009, 07:00 PM Unsay mga compensation packages ug benefits pag ma hire sa Excentrix..? Ga work ka dira sa company..? :) Murag interesado ko mu apply.. hi boom box. I'm sorry that i can't divulge to you that information, as that's not for me to say to anybody, especially on a public forum. :D I am not employed to any of those BPO companies and I have no experience working in a call center (as I don't think I would ever qualify), so I can't help much as to the details or nature of the job description, salaries and arrangements. What I can say though is that the pay is competitive, and the benefits are on par with what those BPOs in Cebu and CdO provide to their employees/staff. There's gonna be a round 2 on the application process at Abalos tomorrow, so if you're interested, or you know of someone who is, go there and tag along that friend of yours with you. Good luck! :) RML December 11th, 2009, 07:03 PM The building beside Tita Fannie's at the corner of Lluch and Zamora Sts. is undergoing a renovation. Me mag-oopen ba ng restaurant sa building na yan? I hope @RML can take some pix of the said building. :) Oh, yeah, I've noticed that one too, Alingatong. And it was funny that I was there this late pm but haven't taken some shots of it as I've not read your post on time. I would have plenty of time to do it in the next coming days, so don't worry. :) RML December 11th, 2009, 07:11 PM For the benefit of our new friend, maialee, I'm re-posting Laguindingan Airport's pictures on here as this will also be the same airport that's built and intended to serve the people of Iligan. In short, this is going to be our airport too, and it's obviously a shorter drive from Iligan than the current Lumbia Airport. http://photos.friendster.com/photos/29/96/101786992/2_938534899l.jpg http://photos.friendster.com/photos/29/96/101786992/2_249075291l.jpg http://photos.friendster.com/photos/29/96/101786992/2_147270770l.jpg http://photos.friendster.com/photos/29/96/101786992/2_366916914l.jpg http://photos.friendster.com/photos/29/96/101786992/2_412222750l.jpg http://photos.friendster.com/photos/29/96/101786992/2_421627189l.jpg http://photos.friendster.com/photos/29/96/101786992/2_909832504l.jpg http://photos.friendster.com/photos/29/96/101786992/2_890482456l.jpg http://photos.friendster.com/photos/29/96/101786992/2_548581812l.jpg maialee December 12th, 2009, 04:06 AM ^^ wow that's great,a new airport of international standards.before we left iligan there was some talks goin' on about an international airport standard to be built in linamon which could have been nearer than that of laguindingan. anyway i thought it was initao that was halfway of iligan-cagayan road.i can still remember a beach resort named midway owned by the echavez a close family friend. so what will happen to iligan airport now that we have new one some 50km away? :) RML December 12th, 2009, 04:40 AM Hi maialee. I'm not really sure what the government is using that airport for at the moment, but my guess is that it's now being used by the military. I think it has become their transient point whenever they travel to and from Iligan. The Linamon airport was obviously just a rumor. I think it was just a propaganda or political tactic by those old politicians to win in the election. The same tactic and style that the current mayor is employing -- making promises during elections and forgetting them after he wins. maialee December 12th, 2009, 05:17 AM ^^ tnx @RML,anyway what happened to the proposed mall by Pryce Properties.actually my mother was a close friend of the Escano's and we were invited to buy some rights to operate some stalls.i even remembered the wife of the recent mayor in iligan who also acted as a broker in finding a space for the mall and eventually it was decided to buy the lot in Tubod just next to a rice mill??so what's up with that mall?did it materialize?i hope iligan can have and be served by sincere leaders come May election.:) can you post some photos of LSA campus? kikoKICKS December 12th, 2009, 05:34 AM I did not know the City of Iligan opened seats for counselors. But so far, only a few have applied, and I'm not sure how many would be accepted at the end of the selection process. the company also accepts part time jobs. Excentrix, the one in Sabayle Street, is a bigger company with much, much bigger number of seats available. They have bigger resources as well. They're still hiring more people to fill in more than a hundred more slots. They haven't been receiving much applicants either, though they've contacted some iliganons who are now stationed in some BPOs in Cebu, Manila and CdO. This company is big and has big goals and ambitions. They also offer very competitive compensation packages. If you're interested to apply, you should do it now. These local BPOs are more than willing to accommodate you if you've made the cut. Good luck! :) Hmmm...I'm interested. Is this a local company owned by an Iliganon? To whom will the applicants send their resume? I hope this is going to materialize instead of applying for BPOs in Cebu or CdeO. ^^ i am also interested about the story behind the Ludo Building.i can still remember the site where Citi Hardware now sits was the home of born-again group called Interfaith and i know it was a movie house or theater before.beside it was a bowling alley too.the movie houses i can remember were Sun-O-rama,Cinerama(owned by the Sun's if im not mistaken)Premier(adult movie house),Maharlika,Plaza,Berds, and the hippest that time was Derby Cinema(now Iligan Fiesta Mall)..the old post office was located just behind the Maria Cristina Hotel before transferring to it's present site. Kadyot lang, ang katong "interfaith" kay katong man theater nga diha sa Kuzina Iliganon karon nga sinehan sauna na nasunog atong 1990 or 1989? Ang tapad ana Adelfa's pa to (now Kimberly Bldg.) Kanang Citihardware karon sinehan gihapon pero dili ko kahinumdum. Ang Kris theater di ba kato man tong sa PRYCE PROPERTIES nga sinehan ( now Bella's Chicken Ati-atihan) ? Regarding LUDO Bldg., murag hotel man siguro na sauna. Pero nakaabot pa ko ato nga time nga naay bargain sale ang Gaisano diha nga gamay. RML December 12th, 2009, 06:20 PM Hmmm...I'm interested. Is this a local company owned by an Iliganon? To whom will the applicants send their resume? I hope this is going to materialize instead of applying for BPOs in Cebu or CdeO. It's safe to pay them a visit before applying. Check out the place and ask some people once you're there. If you think you like what you've seen and heard, don't hold back and apply ahead. The owners are mostly Iliganons. I mentioned "mostly" because some corporate owners aren't exactly from here. Good luck! :) Again, I am in no way connected to any of the BPOs we have in the city. I happen know some infos about them because I have talked to them. Posted by Alingatong October 1st, 2006, 06:09 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Big Four Movie Theaters By Henry L. Yu Movies have always been part of our life, either as a lad, an adolescent, or even now that we have become adults. They are one of the cheapest ways to relax, forgetting momentarily the problems of daily living. Among the big four theaters as far as Iligan City was concerned in the '50s and '60s were: King, Queen, Century, and Premier. They formed part of our childhood memories back in our hometown for almost half a century past. These were the places we went to with our barkadas and classmates either after classes in the afternoon, or during Saturday afternoons, or during school hours when some of us would cut classes just to watch our favorite actors/actresses perform in the big screen. King and Queen Theaters were owned by the Bagatans. The former being located along Quezon Avenue, while the latter was at corner Roosevelt and Zamora Sts. King usually showed Tagalog hits, while Queen catered mostly to Hollywood blockbusters. In the '50s, orchestra rates were pegged at P1.00 while the balcony rates were at P3.00. Century was located at San Miguel St. and was owned by the Gaites. Premier was and is located along Cabili Avenue. Obviously, among the four, only Premier has survived the passing of time. It is still there, but for now it has become a third run theater. The orchestra of King has this canteen located near the entrance. It was where we bought peanuts, Kropeck, crackers, Coke, maruya, etc. The snack bar of Queen was at the lobby of the theater near the tiketera; so with that of Century and Premier. With P5.00 in your pocket at that time, you could already have a relaxing session of watching the movies with matching snacks. King was among the establishments gutted down in the big fire that hit Iligan on May 23, 1957. But it has restored its building on the same site in due time until its closure in the '70s. King was the venue of many a movies starring our favorite stars, like FPJ, Asiong Salonga (Joseph Estrada), Agent X-44 (Tony Ferrer), Agent Lagalag (Eddie Fernandez), Stella Suarez, Divina Valencia, the Sampaguita Stars '66, as well as those from LVN, Larry Santiago, Premier Production, etc. Queen was the home of Hollywood stars like Charlston Heston, Elizabeth Taylor, Yul Brynner, Victor Mature, etc., while Century featured films of Jerry Lewis, Clark Gable, Lana Turner, etc. Premier was another home for the Tagalog stars of the era. All these four theaters had only electric fans to wipe away our sweat brought about by the summer heat, which we never gave importance to as we were much too focused to the wide screen with our favorite movie heroes performing the greatest actions of their lives. Chinese films got the chance to be shown too during that time. They were usually shown either at Queen or Century. King Theater was located very near our backyard, so much so that we could even hear the intermission music. I remember our cook Leona Lantaka, who used to tell us how much she liked that particular song being played at King Theater every morning at 9:00 o'clock. It was "Bayang Magiliw". Poor Leona! It was the National Anthem which was being played to start the opening of the theater. King had another entrance near our backyard so much so that sometimes we could sneak in, passing through that way and went directly to the balcony without the tiketera noticing us. But not so with the other three theaters as the watchers were quite strict. Although we could get inside Century for free, courtesy of Mrs. Gaite (the grand matriarch, the mother of Martin and Maning). The Gaites were our close family friends, the same people who would serve us soft drinks and snacks each time we went swimming at their rest house at Canaway Beach. I have fond memories of Premier in 1966 when I went to watch the Star Parade Show of the Sampaguita Stars '66. It was a personal appearance matinee show featuring my favorites, among them: Bert Leroy-Gina Pareño; Edgar Salcedo-Juvy Cachola; Pepito Rodriguez-Rosemarie Sonora; Ramil Rodriguez-Shirley Moreno; Dindo Fernando-Loreta Marquez; and German Moreno in his younger and slimmer days. They were billeted at the Al Toro Hotel. And I got the chance to see them in person, with autograph in hand for their most valued signatures. All these courtesy of my Uncle Cresing who owned Vision Studio. Just how proud I was the following day telling my classmates about my encounter with these stars, most especially with the pictures that my Uncle Cresing took shots of - me and the Sampaguita Stars '66. Happily, mission accomplished! (Reprinted from the July 13 & 20, 1998 issues of the Spectrum.) http://www.geocities.com/spectrumarc...-09-16-02.html tough December 12th, 2009, 10:30 PM Repost... Posted by Alingatong October 1st, 2006, 06:12 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Iligan’s Movie Theaters – An Update By Charmaine Molo Of the Big Four movie theaters, only Premier is left standing, but shorn of its former glory. It used to be an air-conditioned theater showing top-rate movies, run and managed by the Borja family. Now, it’s worst than a third-run theater showing X-rated movies. It is no longer run and managed by the Borja family, but by some operators who are renting it. Of the Big Four, the first to go out of business was Century theater. It was not making money. This information did not come from the Gaite family, but from some displaced employees. They blamed the closure of Century Theater on the friends of the Gaite family. The Gaites were so good to their friends that they allowed their friends' smiling faces to serve as virtual movie passes. But that's not the way to do business, right? In its place now is a commercial building housing the family businesses of the Gaites. Next to go were King and Queen theaters. When the old patriarch Mariano Bagatan retired from business, both theaters were sold to the Sun family who changed the names of King and Queen Theaters to Sun-O-Rama I and Sun-O-Rama II, respectively. It was during this time in the early seventies that movie houses proliferated in Iligan. In Tubod area, the Celdran family opened the Kris and Ritz Theaters. In Tibanga area, the Kho family opened the Rajah and Ace Theaters. Along Roosevelt street, just in front of Sacred Heart Hospital, the Ang family opened the ABC Cinema. In front of what used to be California Bakery along Quezon Avenue, the Mendoza family opened the Maharlika Theater. And in Palao area, the Bernardo family opened Berds, Derbe, Plaza and Ultra Theaters. With 12 movie houses for a population of 200,000, Iligan residents never had it so good. Because each theater showed double programs, every week a moviegoer has 24 movies to choose from. There were no Betamax, VHS, VCD and cable TV then, and boxing events went out the way Century Theater did. For most of us, going to the movies was our only entertainment. With competition in the movie industry so keen and fierce, something had to give. One by one, movie theaters bowed out of business. They could not compete with the business acumen of the Bernardo family. The land where Kris and Ritz theaters stood was sold to Pryce Property. It is now a business park -- with no business, no park and no visible income. There, it sits idle like a white elephant. Rajah Theater was renovated and is now the site of CITI Hardware while Ace was demolished and its place is occupied by some commercial establishments. Sun-O-Rama II (formerly Queen Theater) is now being used as a warehouse of Trendline Department Store while Maharlika Theater is now being used by born-again Christians for prayer and worship. ABC Cinema was sold by the Ang family and was renamed Cinema Theater. Like Premier Theater, it is showing X-rated films that cater to the baser animal instincts. Sun-O-Rama I (formerly King Theater) is now the site of Maranao traders selling RTW’s, cloth, barter trade products and pirated VCD’s and DVD’s. By the end of the year 2001, there were six movie houses in Iligan: Berds, Derbe, Plaza, Ultra (all owned and operated by the Bernardo family), Premier and Cinema theaters (which survived mainly due to the loyalty of their special audience). Unlike in other cities, each movie house was still showing double programs. But the national anthem (Bayang Magiliw) was no longer being played. This year, the movie industry is confronted by a host of problems. First, there is the economic slowdown due to closure of several industries. Second, after the Sept. 11 attack, many moviegoers are afraid of grenade throwing by the terrorists inside the movie house as what happened in Maranding and Ozamiz City years ago. Third, there is a proliferation of pirated VCD’s that compete directly with the movie theaters. Fourth, Chinese-made but Japanese-branded VCD players are now being sold at only 2,000 pesos ($40) each. Fifth, rental cost of original non-pirated VCD's has been slashed to only 15 pesos ($0.30). Sixth, the cost of electricity has become prohibitive due to the imposition of power cost adjustments. Seventh, the local government has increased its real property tax assessments and continued the imposition of 30% amusement taxes. With declining receipts and increasing costs and expenses, the movie industry is in a very critical and precarious situation. Thus, it was no surprise to many of us when we heard that the Bernardo family has decided to shut down the operations of Berds Theater. The place is now undergoing renovation and is being converted into business stalls, arcades or malls. Signs are posted in prominent places announcing the availability of spaces for rent. It would be a great irony if one of the stalls would soon be selling pirated VCD’s. BobNewYorkUSA December 13th, 2009, 10:49 PM Some great pics @RML . I'll be looking forward to that food court in the mall. If you happen to go by the former location of Club 7, how about some pics of El Manual if you have the time to take some. Fortunately they still have the tables on the patio behind the building so once again I was able to enjoy a few evenings there with friends while having a few San Miguels. There too, I also had a pleasant chat with the owner of the place. Thanks again for all of the pics. uonno December 14th, 2009, 03:32 AM thanks for the pixs @RML...wa diay nausab ang Victoria...mao ra gihapon..Asa to dapit ang 7 story ng construction?
