Some great pics @RML . I'll be looking forward to that food court in the mall. If you happen to go by the former location of Club 7, how about some pics of El Manual if you have the time to take some. Fortunately they still have the tables on the patio behind the building so once again I was able to enjoy a few evenings there with friends while having a few San Miguels. There too, I also had a pleasant chat with the owner of the place. Thanks again for all of the pics.

Thanks for appreciating the pictures @Bob. :)
I'll try Club 7 next time. And for El Manual, I'm not sure where it can be found. Haven't heard of that resto yet. Do you have the address?

thanks for the pixs @RML...wa diay nausab ang Victoria...mao ra gihapon..Asa to dapit ang 7 story ng construction? Taas pud na cia. unsa to hotel o commercial bldg?

Pila ka food stall ang naa sa Gmall foodcourt?

again thank you so much @RML

Your welcome, uonno. :) I still don't have an exact idea on the intended purpose of the building. My guess is that it would be for commercial space for office tenants. The ground floor would either be a food outlet or a clinic, as it was once before the old building was knocked down. But I'll try to get some information about it from a reliable source.

As for the food court, it has just been opened. 2 outlets are now operating (Dimsum and Native) and the other one will be opening next week. There are about 8 stalls all in all in the area, but I have no idea when will the rest be opening. But there's construction I've seen, so more outlets are scheduled to open soon.

I think it's a shorter travel time to go to Ozamis from Iligan. The ferry/barge may delay your travel time a little bit depending on certain hours or day. But the overall distance from Iligan is shorter than CdO.

Been to Ozamis about a year ago, and I had fan. Ozamis is a small city but it's nice and clean. The roads are in perfect condition too, unlike what we have here. lol

ang tag-iya sa ENANG's kay si Sir Rico (i forgot his surname), not a Gerona.,sir rico's house is just infront of Mornons Church in Tambo Highway..tapad sa Tambo online sauna.:)

hello uonno. The place is owned by the Geronas. It's located in Tambo Highway just before the bridge going to Acmac, the rumored future site of SM Grand Mall - Iligan. It's a really nice place with a beautiful view. The interior design is so ethnic and the color scheme is rustic. I really like the place. It's like home away from home. As for the food, I think it's great and reasonably priced. I love their vegetables such as pinakbet, sinigang, ampalaya, etc... There's also a live band every wednesdays, fridays and saturdays.

And if I may ask a simple request from you, please quote 1 pix only when doing it on the same page so other lurkers wouldn't find it hard to navigate the thread/site. Thanks. :)

PS. I still owe you the Victorias pix and of Timoga's as well. begging for more time. i don't go out a lot. my stay here in only temporary as i'm actually based in manila.

I'll try Club 7 next time. And for El Manual, I'm not sure where it can be found. Haven't heard of that resto yet. Do you have the address?

Club 7 closed about 6 months ago or maybe a little more than that. From what I heard for the reason was not for lack of business, but difficulty with noise from the live entertainment in the later hours of the evening. The location is right next to Elena Towers Hotel and on the other side of it is a building used for housing of students attending MSU-IIT.

A new resto-bar replaced the Club 7 in the same location and is known as " Le Manuel " Resto-Bar. The side of the building that was opened up to accomodate more people when it was Club 7 has now been partitioned off with glass to better contain the sound of the Live Entertainment that still takes place there. It is under new ownership as far as I can tell, and I had a pleasant conversation with the owner for a few minutes. The location is right across from the hotel entrance for Elena Towers and just down the walkway on the right side of Red Ribbon on Tibanga Highway.

The food was good, the service was great and I enjoyed the evenings with friends at the outdoor tables in the back, the same way I did when it was Club 7.

Best I could determine, there are no plans on any re-opening of the Club 7, in another part of the city, by any of the previous owners, although that may just be speculation.

This is the only pic I have, taken on my last evening in Iligan from my recent visit. You can see the name of the place on the yellow shirt our waiter was wearing. At the time I just didn't think of taking pictures of the rest of the place. It has had a near complete make over since it was Club 7.

I found my experience at " Le Manuel Resto-Bar " most enjoyable.

@ RML, Thanks for those pics of LaSalle Academy, Iligan. This is one of the places still on my list to visit. The Main Building so easily seen from the street is what attracted my attention to LaSalle Academy from the first time I saw it. Unfortunately due to scheduling differences I have yet been able to visit it in person. Something to look forward to in the future.

From your pics, it appears the buildings and grounds are maintained to a very high degree. This place has real " Class " .

^ Thanks for appreciating it @Bob. :)

As for your comment about La Salle, well, what can you expect from a La Salle school? hehe...

The word La Salle in the Philippines is synonymous to high quality but EXPENSIVE education. And that has reflected on the high level of haughtiness of many of its graduates. The La Sallites call that "school spirit". I call that loyalty. Lol. And we even have school jokes pertaining to its classiness and elitist character. For example, people spell it: La$al or La $alle. (Noticed the dollar sign?) lol

Another La Salle joke.

3 friends from La Salle, St. Michael's and IIT went out on a camping.
whilst on their way to their camp, they saw a crocodile.
The IIT student jumped and shouted, "Bu-a-ya!" (a Filipino word for crocodile. Meaning, IIT students speak too local. hehe...)
The St. Michael's student was also startled by what he saw and shouted: "OMG! I just saw a crocodile!"
The La Salle student, however, was just a little relaxed and said: wow dude, a lacoste!"
hehe...:D

Nevertheless, La Salle in the Philippines is a highly respected academic institution. The one in Manila, De La Salle University, is the main La Salle school where college degrees are offered. The one in Iligan is just for elementary and secondary levels.

I am aware that there is a La Salle University (LSU) in Pennsylvania. But it has a modest and retiring atmosphere -- pretty much like an exact opposite to what La Salle's atmosphere here is in the Philippines. LSU is also a generous school offering their talented students a full-ride for a top-notched education. The La Salle University we have here (which is located in Manila) is quite stingy when it comes to scholarship grants. Maybe only about less than 1% of the student population are scholars.

In Iligan we have a joke which goes something like this:

If you are smart but with no money, go to IIT.
If you have money but not that smart, go to Saint Michael’s.
But if you have both smarts and money, go to La Salle.
Hehe… :D

Again, before I'm being cast and labeled here, let me emphasize it that it was just a joke. :)

Hello @uonno.

to be honest about it, La Salle isn't really that pretty. I mean, it's nice but not stunning nice, okay? There's nothing striking about its architecture. It's just buildings built like giant boxes. And, frankly speaking, IIT is way bigger. St Michael's' buildings are substantially better. Heck, even Capital College buildings are nicer. In my opinion, the only thing that made La Salle's campus nice is its cleanliness. The environment inside the school premise is always kept clean and tidy. Plus add to that the fact that La Salle students are clean and tidy too. Well, not all of them are. But I guess the vast, vast majority of them are well-groomed. But then again, many of them are from the upper class, so that's kind of expected from them.

As a LSA Alumni (Batch 1999), there are lots of changes already, especially the High School area. The last time I left was the classrooms are still one-story high and the library (my favorite hang-out after my lunch) is at second level, between 1st-2nd and 3rd-4th year classrooms.

And yes, at that time, the gazebo is built at soccer field area, close to classrooms.

I have two very old La Salle jokes! :D Share lang naku... Rampant mga school jokes diri... hehehe.

LAHAT MAHIRAP
Sa UP, mahirap ang Math.
Sa Ateneo, mahirap ang English.
Sa La Salle, mahirap ang parking.
Sa UST, mahirap umuwi kapag baha.
Sa St. Scholastica, mahirap sumakay sa LRT.
Sa San Beda, mahirap maging lalaki.

PASIKATAN
UP: A number of past Philippine presidents graduated from UP. Presidents Roxas, Quirino, Laurel, Garcia and Marcos, to name just a few!

ATENEO: Hah! That's nothing, a number of Ateneo graduates became national heroes like Jose Rizal, Gen. Gregorio del Pilar, Gen. Antonio Luna, Evelio Javier and many others.

UP: That just goes to show you, UP graduates become presidents and lead countries while Ateneans end up getting shot!

LA SALLE: Wala 'yan. Talo kayo sa mga gradweyt namin!

UP & ATENEO: Bakit sino ba ang mga graduates ninyo?

LA SALLE: Aba ! Marami kaming sikat na gradweyts; si Gary Valenciano, Dingdong Avanzado, Ogie Alcasid, Monsour del Rosario. . .

Peace everyone! JOKE JOKE lang! ;)

Thank you for your comment @RML, well I did not say that its very nice and bigger compare to other school. Nagulat lang talaga ako kasi its different from the time I was there compared it to now. Anyway your right clean and tidy as always.

They have a website at : http://www.lasalleiligan.org/

just clicked the link but it isn't working. I guess the server was down.

Here are some pix of La Salle which I personally took yesterday at around 5:20pm. This is the exact view if you're driving and is just passing by the school.

I would like to correct the information regarding MSU-IIT Integrated Developmental School.

IDS today is a semi-private school. That means a part of the students' tuition is subsidized by the local government.

A few years before, the school practiced the traditional homogeneous sectioning of the students. The school produced graduates of extraordinary talents in research, and science and technology with this kind of method. One example was the Filipino delegate from IDS, named Prem Rara, who achieved the second position in an international research position held in Kentucky, USA. Most probably it was an ultimate worldwide research competition, nga kung sa beauty pageant pa kay Miss Universe.

Only recently, I guess four years ago, they adopted the heterogeneous sectioning which the administration regarded as "fair and humane". In my observation, and experience in IDS as a former student and co-teacher, this kind of sectioning is a dangerous threat to its purpose as a science school.

In a heterogeneous mixture, students aren't divided into sections according to intellectual capabilities. Instead, and mga bugo og bright kay gisagol sa usa ka section aron daw dili mabiyaan ang bogo og dili sila mamarginalize.

What's the point? Their point is stupid! They are killing the atmosphere of competition between the gifted students.

Easy lang bai. Tagging their point stupid boils down to calling the people who made reform on the curriculum stupid as well and those people just happened to be your mentors in your high school. They deserve respect.

I say this heterogeneous sectioning is better than the other. For you, their point is stupid because academic competition may die out. I think the otherwise since as much as those gifted students would try to remain on top, those you call mga bugo (which i doubt kay wala man cguro bugo sa IDS, maybe less gifted lang cguro) if they're motivated enough would try to prove that they can at least catch up if not be at par with their gifted classmates making the atmosphere rather more competitive.

You would agree academic competition is a good thing since it's what makes a student motivated to be the best. But there is more to school than academic competition. It's not the main reason why a student go to school in the first place. Whether or not in a competitive way, an ideal student goes to school primarily to learn not just about knowledge but also the core values of an upright person. So you see, this is perhaps why the heterogeneous sectioning is fair, humane and rational, since students of different levels of intelligence may learn sharing and helping out each other to carry on academically in an honest way.

You may say that this type of sectioning would rather promote cheating because those less intelligent would just copy and rely from those gifted students. Regardless of type of sectioning, academic dishonesty, cheating in particular is inevitable. It's already the teacher's responsibility to mitigate or deter students from cheating.

I think the faculty have realized the downside of having all bright and all "bugo" sectioning. They may have realized, that this sectioning, in a way or two, seeds discrimination of teachers against those not so bright students and undue preference to those bright students and that can only be avoided by mixing the students.

I commend the faculty for making the class sections heterogeneous since i perhaps share the same reason why they made it such. This type of sectioning promotes holistic development of students into intellectually and morally upright persons.

Welcome back Timoga_Lover. How was your studies in Ateneo? Heard your school just opened a library. How nice was it?

Are there other Iliganons in Ateneo freshmen class?

@RML, I did not enroll in Ateneo. I took their entrance exam, which they call it, ACET, only as a fall back school, or in case I won't get into UP or De La Salle. Luckily, I got into all the Big 3 schools (UP, De La Salle and Ateneo) and, like you, I chose to be with the best - UP!

There’s only one from my batch who went to Ateneo and he’s majoring Computer Information System something, something there (not sure what the name of his course was.) He’s like our top 8 in high school but he didn’t pass in UP and he’s only waitlisted in De La Salle.

I’m like one of the only 4 from my batch that got into UP Diliman. I’m now majoring business administration here, but I may shift to accountancy next year if my grades would improve this semester.

PGMA orders fast tracking of ground works of P187.76-M Iligan-Cagayan-Butuan access road (http://www.pna.gov.ph/index.php?idn=0&nid=2&rid=247495)

Dec. 15 (PNA) -– President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday inspected the progress of ground works of the P187.76-million access road that connects the Northern and Northeastern Mindanao regions.

The Chief Executive made her personal inspection as she also instructed the officials and field engineers of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to fast track the ground works and hit the target timeline before she steps down in June 2010.

“The access road is very vital for continuous economic activities in this region and I want you (DPWH) to finish this in our target date,” said President Arroyo, who was impressed with the accomplishment of the four-lane access road.

The P187.76-million access road will connect to the Iligan (Lanao del Norte)-Cagayan de Oro City (Misamis Oriental)-Butuan City (Agusan del Norte) national highway.

In her swing in Northern Mindanao on Monday, President Arroyo also checked on the progress of the ongoing construction of the Laguindingan International Airport in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.

The Chief Executive, together with Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno and other local officials, walked through the Laguindingan International Airport terminal building which is still under construction. She then inspected the runway.

The Laguindingan International Airport sits on a 4.17- square kilometer site in Barangay Moog, Laguindingan 1 and is located 46 kilometers from the existing Lumbia Airport in Cagayan de Oro City.

Upon its completion, it will be the fourth international airport in Mindanao, after the Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao City, Zamboanga International Airport in Zamboanga City, and General Santos International Airport.

When completed, it will also be the first international airport in Northern Mindanao (Region 10).

The target completion of the said new airport will be on 2011. The project ground works of the said airport is now 54 percent accomplished.

It can be recalled that Mrs. Arroyo broke ground on the project on January 11, 2006. The runway of the airport as well as the apron could be completed by April 2010, before her term ends.

The civil works are being done by the Korean contractor Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Co.

Meanwhile, President Arroyo on Monday also inaugurated the 1.9–kilometer farm-to-market road (FMR) also of that same town, which represented the 17,000th kilometer of such farm-to market roads constructed so far by her administration.

Accompanied by Laguindingan Mayor Oliver Ubaub, Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno and Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap, Mrs. Arroyo led the inaugural drive-through of the Poblacion-Gasi-Liberty-San Isidro farm-to-market road.

The project will directly benefit more than 2,000 households of the four barangays of that town with farms planted to 600 hectares bananas, 177 hectares mango, 210 hectares coconut and 360 hectares corn. (PNA)

Thanks for your post, @timoga_lover. I'm always thrilled to hear that there are Iliganons in UP.

I believe your program, Business Administration, is one of the most popular programs in Diliman, and it's a quota course, so you must be really smart. :okay:

What did you major in UP?
I majored in economics.

What student org did you join in? Did you join in a fraternity?
I was a member of the UP Junior Marketing Association and AIESEC UP. Ironically, I did not join in our college org, which is the UP ecosoc.

I almost did join a fraternity. But I thought I was too involved with UP JMA that my time wasn't even enough for my studies. JMA is a super cool and enriching student organization. I had a great time at UP partly because of my active involvement with UP JMA. If you wish to join in one someday, JMA in particular, let me know asap. I will let someone contact you immediately. You can PM me anytime. :)

No; I didn't live in a dorm, which was one of my biggest regrets in college life, because we have a house in Tierra Pura Subd., Quezon City, which as you probably are already aware about it now, is a location just a stone's throw away from Diliman campus.

I'm not really familiar with the dorms in the campus, but I heard Molave is okay. Alternatively, there are many rooms or studio-type apartments for rent in Teacher's Village area with superb facility, so if the idea of living outside of the campus isn't an issue for you, you can get a good room for 5k or a studio-type for 7k or 8k.

Study hard and enjoy college life. You'll only go through it once in your life. :)

Okay

I would like to apologize for using the words stupid and bugo.

But anyway, bugo is not the word. Less gifted hinuon.

But I do believe even they are not gifted in academics, they still have talents in other fields. And with proper motivation and proper learning environment they can develop these talents.

But why is heterogeneous mixture not appropriate for a school with high standards in science and technology such as IDS?

1. Birds of the same feathers should be flocked together.
Before these so called "fair and humane" sectioning, IDS grouped the students according to their academic potentials. Pure science curriculum for academically gifted students and applied science curriculum for students who have greater potential in technology. To what curriculum the student should belong to depends on his performance in the aptitude test prior to the sectioning.
It is observable how student easily get along with each other especially with those who have the same talents and abilities. Even in a classroom setting, the whole class is "divided" into factions. Students would like to associate themselves to a much smaller group with a common interest.

2. You can identify the tallest cornstalk in a cornfield not in a jungle.
How can you get the best among the best? Well, gather all the best.
How can you get the best among the rest? Well, gather the rest.
Experience tells us that competition always produce the best. Don't get me wrong, competition within a classroom setting, with PROPER GUIDANCE, is healthy. (actually, every classroom in all schools deserves proper guidance) So you can tell who is best in math, best in PE, best in chemistry, best in physics, etc.
In fact IDS produced two lineups of honor students, one from pure science and one from applied science. SO that means, two valedictorians, two salutatorians, two first honorable mentions and etc...

3. In a heterogeneous mixture, it is more difficult to adjust the lesson to the class. Those who are not academically gifted when confronted with lessons which they find too hard to comprehend may feel left out.
It is not easy to be in my position. You are constantly pushed into a dilemma. Whereas in the homogeneous mixture, it is easier to adjust your lesson to your students.

How about the issues of insecurities? Usually man gud sa homogeneous mixture ani ang scenario: "mga bryt man gud cla nya kami dili..." But the same scenario occurs in the heterogenous mixture too! Well the blame lies on the kind of motivation in given by the authorized personnel. Maski asa pa na nga mixture kung walay lami ang motivation og encouragement, wala jud nay paingnan.

And lastly, there is no difference between the pure and applied science curricula when it comes to the status of the students. Each has his own talent and abilities. In fact, sa ingon ani nga sectioning mas madevelop pa ang studyante sa kung asa siya iyang field of interest. Those from pure science are most likely to excel in the field of natural and biological sciences, research, IT, engineering and etc. Those from applied science are most likely to excel in social sciences and arts, technology, nursing and etc.

Just compare IDS before and IDS today. IDS is supposed to be a science school. Sa karon, mas dakog emphasis na ang extracurricular og nonscience activities. As an alumnus man gud, di lang ako ang naka-observe, nakita lang nako ang dakong deperensiya sa IDS sa una og IDS karon. IDS today is no longer the shining IDS of yesterday.

In which floor are you in Kalayaan? I stayed in the 4th floor and hated the lack of water pressure up there. we had to go down to the first floor or basement to take a shower.

Is rodic's still serving Tapsilog? I miss the food at the shopping center coop?

IDS is a very good learning institution. But I like the old system of having 3 sections for science, and 5 sections for the revised curriculum.

Yes, Rodic's still serves tapsilog, and my favorite, sinigang na isda. The store is one of the only few existing food eateries in UP. I heard they've been around in the campus for more than 40 or 50 years now. grabe na kadugay.

here's my opinion with regards to the sectioning.

One science/math section where all the science geeks will be grouped together will actually do. But the selection for the section must purely be based on the student's interest in science and mathematics. IDS doesn't need 3 sections for that.

Studies have shown that students with balanced learning are more likely going to succeed in life, for they grew up with better personalities and good sense of understanding of other things related to social aspects. In short, not only has their IQ improved, but their EQ as well, so they're more balanced.

Science and maths are just instructions. Unless you're very sure that you would want to become a scientist, you must learn a broader academic scope such as literature, history, social science, humanities and mathematics.

Pooling the students according to their academic potentials was actually just a front on their real purpose of having two curricula. Pure science was just meant for bright students and applied for not as bright students. Students belong in PS curriculum were not trained to become pure scientist while those in the AP curriculum were not trained to become applied scientist either. What I mean is that the types of training in the two curricula are just plainly similar. Some of the math and science subjects like bio, chem, geometry, physics, research, stat and trigonometry are just taken in advance by PS students. AP students just take those subjects in the latter years. So you see, having such curricula were not as purposeful as it seemed.

It is observable how student easily get along with each other especially with those who have the same talents and abilities. Even in a classroom setting, the whole class is "divided" into factions. Students would like to associate themselves to a much smaller group with a common interest.

This is true. It is important however, for students to learn not to isolate themselves with the other groups rather be as sociable as they can be to be successful. They will be encountering a whole bunch of different people in the future that they need to deal with. So how would they deal with those different people when they are just used to getting along with people of common personalities the whole time. Hehe..murag layu na kayu ko naabtan pero murag mao na ako point.

2. You can identify the tallest cornstalk in a cornfield not in a jungle.

I agree. But are the students in the IDS really that diverse in terms of intellectual capabilities? Abe kog basta nakasulod og IDS, considered crème de la crème na. Well, lisud jud mag-assume. Hehe. But personally, I believe that of course they have individual differences but maybe not to the extent of setting them far apart making them extremely diverse.

35% ?... ra? Hehe… unsa diay nga subject imo gitudluan? I think quite an achievement nana labe nag trigo, physics, chem or calculus to think nga mga high school pa gud na imo gitudluan. Sa college man gali, lapas pa man cguro 35% ang bagsak sa mga ana nga subject. Basta bagsak, di bagsak. Hehe.

We can't help to get insecure at times and i think a dose of it is healthy as it drives you to strive better pero subraan na gali ka insecure, mao nay walay paingnan.

Im pretty sure aware ka nga sukad nauso ang nursing, mao nanay gipanguha sa mga taga IDS maski bright kayu or dli kayu bright. After all, bahalag mi-graduate ang bata og pure science or applied, it’s still a matter of choice whoever makes the choice be iya parents or siya mismo kung unsa iya kwaon nga choice which is a very good thing unlike what Phil Sci is doing that they’re making it mandatory for their students to take only science course and if their students choose to violate will be liable to repay their high school tuition that they enjoyed for free which I think is reasonable man pud.

I say recent graduates in IDS are more well-rounded. IDS is a science school but it doesn’t mean that training should just concentrate heavily on sciences, dapat balanse lang, which I think is what the current administration has been doing. Before, science og math achievements ra usually madunggan from IDS pero karun dli lang science og math but as well as from other fields especially IT, movie making, communications, og cheerdancing. Tanan studyante sa IDS krun naay opportunity ma-develop ila potential be it academic or not, unlike before nga kung bright kayu ka, ikaw ray nay chance mu-excel.

Basin kaingun ka brad subraan ra ko ka re-act, hehe, but i'm cool.
And I rest my case. El-o-El. peace! :)

Hwaw! Daghan taga UP! Mutanaw mog Lantern Parade unyang gabii??

timoga lover, nagpuyo ko karon atbang sa inyoha... sa tirahan ng mga gurang grad students: Sanggumay! (clap clap clap) ;)

For dorm ako. Take into consideration the difference between dorm fees and monthly rentals. Layo kaayo. I used to rent the smallest room last year for P1500 per month excluding water, electronics, etc. It was the cheapest I could find anywhere inside the campus... and with that, I meant it was just a tiny box of an attic room (I had to stoop down upon entering and stay that way all throughout my stay inside) and no windows (just a small exhaust fan to keep me from suffocating). It was H-A-R-D! I could not complain to the owner of the house because for P1500, what more can I expect? I got what I paid for. I was finally given a dorm slot early this year and I was so elated, I wept for the dorm's high ceiling and large windows. Ignorantehan ko kadjut. Haha.

And, for just a little over P600 per month including water, electronic fees, and WiFi.... what more can you ask for? The camaraderie is the absolute added bonus! Of course, you lose a little sense of privacy but then again, life is meant to be spent with everyone else. So I say, "pag dorm!" :)

Hmmm... aside from Molave, I can also suggest Yakal. My only basis for that is because we (Sanggumay and Yakal) have the same Dorm Manager, Ms. Alma Tirona, and she is very hands-on with her "residents"... if you want to have a "Mother Figure" of a dorm manager, stay under her wing. ;)

A new tourist destination in Iligan will be fully operational by summer of 2010. I'll post the pics of the NPC Nature Park someday when I have free time to upload the pics to my computer.

They also have a 4-station zipline and one 540m zipline (under construction). I tried the 4-station zipline and they're awesome.

A company officer also told me that they are planning to convert the old water diversion tunnel into an underground cave resembling the subterranean river of Palawan. That means, you need a boat and a good flashlight to explore the inside. As for now, the tunnel is a home to thousands and thousands of bats (very noisy inside).

Have a happy holiday guys!

Nice set of Iligan Bank Pics @RML and I think there are more of them. I did the " Bank Tour " of just about every bank in Iligan trying to get their ATM to work or to get a cash advance on my ( major brand name ) credit card but no luck ! I felt like I was playing " Bank Roulette " and the ATM's were like the slot machines in Las Vegas LOL. Other foriegn visitors have had a similar experience even though our cards will work at hotels, and major stores like Gaisano and others that take credit cards.

It is my impression that the ATM's in Iligan are not connected to the international or world networks so only domestic cards can be validated to complete a transaction. Maybe there is just not enough international card business in Iligan to warrant the additional expense of the ATMs to be connected into an international network.

That is kind of like saying, would you pay for an additional internet ISP for a few e mails a month ? of course not.

The only bank I could find in Iigan that would give a cash advance on a foriegn ( major brand name ) credit card is the Main Branch ( there are 2 of them in Iligan ) of Banco De Oro ( BDO ) located near the City Plaza. Their ATMs will not work, you have to go inside of the bank and request a cash advance.

Hi Bob & All,

Last time I was in Iligan (September this year) I was able to get money off my New Zealand Visa card at a PNB ATM at the main branch by the city Plaza, only thing was I could only get 4000Php at a time.

Thanks for that info. Sooner or later those ATMs will connect to international verification networks. On my recent visit, knowing of my past experiences with the banks and ATMs in Iligan, I made other arrangements so I would not have to consume time at any of the banks. Next time I'll try some of the ATMs in Iligan just to see if they will work for me.

My first experience in using an ATM in Iligan involved a situation I had never experienced before. It was the day after a Bank Holiday and there were long lines at almost every ATM I saw. The networks must have been experiencing an overload situation as the machines would be useable on a 5 minutes on and 5 minutes off basis. I had never seen anything like this before and when it was my turn to give it a try, it was then that I found out that my card would not be validated anyway. A bit frustrating, yes, but about all I could do was to become nearly hysterical in laughter. I had never seen anything like this before.

you should had pushed the other amount button..and i think the maximum withdrawal per day on an atm is 20k, though u have to enter 10k twice because thats the limit per atm transaction.

Phase 1 construction is still under construction and will be open for the public in the summer of 2010. Phase 1 lang sa na ha? SO be patient. But anyway, even at phase 1, you'll surely enjoy your visit at this park.

The rapids. The water is fast, noisy, and white enough for white water rafting. I don't know if white water rafting will be available at the opening of Phase 1. Beside the river, they also created a fishing spot. :okay::okay:

SO this is just a part of a wide Switch Yard. Just 30%. Ayaw ka, kay licensed technician pud ni ilang mga iro.:nuts::nuts:

Mga nabisitaan nako nga wala nako nakuhaag pics:
Lagoon -pwede mag-kayak diri
Bat Cave - dili ang HQ ni Batman. This is the old water diversion tunnel where tens of thousands of bats live. They come out in hordes at night to feed (also a nice scene to watch). As I have said, a company official told me that the company is planning to convert it into a cave resembling the Palawan subterranean river.

Og mao ra na. I wasn't able to libot-libot the entire place because one day is not enough for the whole activity.

More tourists and visitors for Iligan!:banana::banana:

I've visited the CdeO Gmall, the GCP Pagadian and the GC Ozamiz and compared them to our Gmall. Still, our Gmall is the most beautiful of them all even at her unfinished state. The interior is far prettier than other Gmalls in Northern Mindanao. Dako-dako jud siguro ang nagasto ani nga mall kay ang every detail sa interior kay gigastoan jd og panindot, asta ang mga aircon vents. Not being biased, just my observation.

Don't worry, if not RML, or Alingatong, ako ang magpost og pics.

nasuya kalang! :lol::lol::lol:

first of all, I have respect for elder people. I don't have respect for people who don't have respect for themselves, however.

second, if i want to flaunt my education or my alma mater school, not on here. Trust me; there are other forums where I can post, flaunt my achievements or my education and would be received by other members pretty warmly.

When I said this once I've said this a million times: I posted those shirts because I am now aware that there are many UP guys posting (or lurking) on this thread. It was the easiest way to inform them that such shirts are now available. If you don't like to see those pictures, don't look at them. It's actually just as simple as that.

If you want my respect, show me that you're worth my respect. If you you're trying to be nasty with me, I can be nastier. If you would behave, I can be as much behaved. If you don't like me; I can't help that. BUT do not come up here and insult me because I am going to throw it back to your face twice as much hurtful.

Peace out!

Iligan is striving to serve their visitors with wonderful experiences they can never forget. I'm hoping the local government will open an easier way to the Limunsudan Falls (2nd highest waterfalls in the Phil, if not the 1st) for the general public which could further boost tourism.

Before reaching the Switch Yard, you'll meet these creatures. Are these sheep or just goats? Og wala na lang pud nako gipicturan ang mga cows kay murag pikon kaayo sila og mga visitors, basin ako ilang mdiskitaan :) :bash:

Wow, ganda naman yan... at hindi pa yan tapos...

Disagree, Tagbilaran seaport is much cleaner than Iligan seaport :).

jeb, I have to agree with you that the TAGBILARAN port is cleaner than Iligan's.
this is because despite the heavy traffic in the port, they've managed to keep it clean. whereas for Iligan, it is clean because there's minimal traffic. but besides that, really, Boholanos love Bohol, so everyone contributes to keeping the whole island of Bohol clean. it's quite a different story with Iligan, considering also its geography, where it is a passage to & from Southern & Western Mindanao provinces to & from Northern Mindanao. because it is just a place people pass through, these transients do not always respect the city's cleanliness drive.
I don't know if it's still true, but 4 years ago, the National highway leading to NPC was littered with empty food packing and paper cups, courtesy of transients and passers-through who thought Iligan's street sweepers should be given something to do.:ohno:

Tagbilaran's port is indeed clean. And it should because it is a tourism paradise and most of its of scenery are white sand beaches. A lot of westerners frequent Bohol for its beaches and it needs a clean port to greet them. My wife is from Bohol and the first I landed on that port, I felt its hospitality right away.

Iligan on the other hand has a clean port not because it lacks shipping calls but because the management is able to do so. The industries that Iligan hosts have their own private ports so no wonder Iligan's port has little ship calls. I guess one has to note too that the port is between major ports (Port of Cagayan de Oro and Port of Ozamiz) that's why it's market is clearly of its own population while Ozamiz and Cdeo caters to Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga Peninsula province (for Ozamiz) and Bukidnon, MIsamis Oriental, Camiguin provinces.

I also noticed that. Even traffic rules and traffic enforcers aren't respected by many of Iligan's visitors especially those from Marawi City let alone the city's cleanliness drive.

We need officials and police forces with real iron fists and steel balls to implement the city's rules.

Not actually a lot. The ff are those ports that I can still remember that I've been to:

Manila - wide but extremely dirty and congested
Cebu - wide but clean and well-kept
Iloilo - wide but not that well-kept
Bacolod - can't recall what it was like
Ozamis - small, clean and tidy
CdO - wide, not so clean, but looks okay overall.
Iligan - medium-sized but very clean and well-kept
Tagbilaran - small, clean and tidy
Roxas - small and clean
and those ports around Katiklan and Boracay area.

agree on the guy who commented na malinis ang pier ng bohol though..
Malinis nga yung sa Bohol but it didn't strike me that much. It was smaller too.

the Bottom line here: the more clean seaports the Philippines has the better. :)

Is the Port of Iligan no longer open for viewing by tourists, visitors or the general Public ?

On my recent visit, some of the things I wanted to see and do that I had not done on prior visits were to take a ride on a Tricicad , visit the Port of Iligan ( after viewing the pictures of it here on SSC-Iligan ) and see what some of the residential neighborhoods of Iligan looked like.

Along with a couple of my Iliganon friends, I had them ask one of the Tricicad drivers if we could hire the tricicad for up to a few hours and the arrangement was agreed upon. I had told my friends that I wanted to see " The Docks " which may have indicated something other than the " Seaport ". From Tibanga Highway we went through an area behind the property of MSU-IIT and ended up at what appeared to be a beach and I asked my friends " where's the Docks and the Ships " ? It was then they realized that I was talking about the " Seaport ".

We continued on the Tricicad to the Port of Iligan ( I knew the driver was really putting some extra effort into this as at times my Iliganon friends hopped off of the tricicad to lighten the load on some steep inclines ). I asked my friends to please have the driver wait for us as we might be a while looking around at the seaport and I gave the driver some peso for him to have some food and refreshments if he so desired.

At what appeared to be the street side entrance to the seaport, we were informed by multiple security officers that we could not enter. I got the impression that some kind of event or special ship arrival was going to take place that day, so unfortunately there was nothing to be seen inside of the gates for me.

All was not lost on this outing however as I recognized the neighborhood from pictures I had seen here on SSC-Iligan and there was a nice Electrical / Electronics shop that I wanted to visit and one of my friends pointed out the Cheddings Store, another place I saw first, here on SSC-Iligan which proved to be well worth the visit.

Although I was unable to see the inside of the Seaport area, at least now in my mind I know where it is in relation to other parts of the city. A little at a time I am putting together a mental image of a map of Iligan so when I read or hear about different places I can visualize and sense being there.

I had the Tricicad Ride, I did get to see a little of some residential areas so it was a good afternoon outing even if I did not get to see the seaport in person. Two out of three, not bad !

Iligan City

Simply Amazing

btw, thank you for your warm welcome sir!!

anyway, what you have asked,i could say yes..though i'm not that updated to iligan port status nowadays..but we often roam around the port early in 2000..we just go there with my family because i'm a ship lover..one day,i was actually throwing stones at the seaside near a departing ship and suddenly there were 2 muslims fighting and 1 man wanted to separate them but the fight just turned alerting..the 2 muslims hostage the man who helped them..and we just run with my mom out of the port and the marines came about to abort the fight..we were so frightened that they used their guns..i think that's the time iligan port became strict..years passed,we wanted to go to the port..the guards eventually didn't permit us to enter and my father reasoned out that we people are the ones who are paying the taxes and we even cannot use it..now,if we're going to travel,we prefer to start at cagayan de oro port for they are more convenient..

TO: -aspen- and RML

You both have been brigged for keeping up with this idiotic and trivial tirade. If you want to beat each other senseless, do it on your own time and do not include SSC. You both had been warned prior to this brigging and yet your boneheadedness still rises above reason. I suggest that you take the month off and do something productive and of value rather than to argue with each other.

If in a month your attitudes and behaviors haven't changed, then I would have no other option but to ban you from SSC. And don't event think of re-registering under a new username. There are ways to detect that, and don't even try me, because you'll be the sorry one in the end. That's not a threat. That's a promise!

^^ Hmm...just wanna ask, is Aspen the same as Rascof? I think this is his 3rd username after being banned before. Both usernames could be owned by the same person. Rascof always talked about Shabu while Aspen does the same...they both have the same font style used... I wish his IP won't be allowed to register any username again. His posts are always on the negative and he even does the same to the other threads.

ba't nadamay si RML, kiretoce?

I don't question your authority, but I think you missed it that he's a sensible poster, and was only provoked - repeatedly - by both kikoKICKS and aspen. You should have considered that and investigated first who's really causing the troubles on this forum. By just reading their posts alone, we can already assume that both kikoKICKS and aspen are just trolling... They even haven't contributed anything to the thread. kikoKICKS is obviously just as guilty of the same mistake as his best buddy, aspen, and it's sad that the fag got away with his stupidty unscathed. Don't you think that's quite unfair? But then again, you are the moderator, so do what you think you think is right to do.

It's ok to vote for senior candidates as long as they had performed well during their last term. But still, we need young bloods with revolutionary ideas for the local government. Maski dili kaayo ingon ka lalom ilang experience sa politics, definitely they're the ones who are more familiar with the current situation of our city.

Crisven Fried Chicken Restaurant will transfer sa Pala-o beside Silvestro's Bistro (Shoppe24)

Thriving hang-out, party, og dining na gyud na nga area diha sa Pala-o ah. I'm looking forward for more developments in that area in 2010. Hopefully, our City Engineer's Office will widen further the road going to Palao and continue the road widening that they halted near the junction of Jeffrey Road - Quezon Avenue Extension. I hope that they will extend it further to City Hospital area.

And hopefully, after the 2010 elections, they will make a long term plan to stimulate growth and create new urban center for Iligan City to realize its potential as a highly urbanized city. Medyo kulang na atong central business district og space. Unta they will try to look for strategic areas and stimulate those areas with new complexes para naman madungagan ang business/commercial area sa atong dakbayan. This is what Cebu and Cagayan de Oro is doing with their SRP and the new Pelaez rotunda respectively.
