mao ni kadto atbang sa el sentro, i heard that mang inasal is the owner of this, i hope so..MSU-IIT will become ILIGAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY if we give a chance to be independent..:cheers:
g0Rs September 7th, 2010, 06:03 AM @vox_21 It's corner Quezon and Roxas Avenues
@cyberwizard they'd like to retain IIT then attach NATIONAL UNIVERSITY.
uonno September 7th, 2010, 07:05 AM Yeah. Its time that we will have our own University in Iligan and come to think of it, IIt is competent among the universities in the Philippines. Sana lang matuloy na ito.
bentong September 7th, 2010, 08:38 AM Whatever name of IIT shall be upon separation from MSU, it will not affect the university's quality of education.
IIT must separate from MSU as soon as possible so that positive physical and curriculum development will be a lot faster. It is no wonder the upgrading of facilities and construction of new buildings and classrooms are slow this decade because IIT under the shadows of MSU economically despite being the best performing unit of the system even surpassing the mother campus in achievements.
IIT has proven herself and will continue to do so. Give her her own identity, separate her from the system now!
TONZI September 7th, 2010, 01:16 PM ^^ tama ka @bentong.. it's been long overdue that IIT needs to stand on its own. Alam naman ng lahat na ginagamit lang ng MSU Main ang IIT so that its budget will continue to pour because of IIT's strong performance in board exams. If IIT wasn't there, MSU will surely be void of budget as CHED will surely sanction the system because of low quality education.
The sad thing is, there is propaganda spreading that once IIT separates, it will become another UP in the making where tuition fees will go high, which we all know is hoax just to scare people and students to support the said bill.
bentong September 7th, 2010, 03:50 PM ^^ @TONZI
That black propaganda was spread by some of the unwilling officials of MSU and their sympathizers and of course the anti-Varfs. And unfortunately many IITians were ignorant enough to be scared by those threats.
IITNU will be a state university and therefore will be given appropriate budget by the government. The separation will not mean an increase in tuition fee. The increase in tuition fee is a serious issue in a state university and is a subject of a thorough analysis and study by both the government and university officials. And besides the students are still the backbone of the university and therefore have the power to exercise their rights to the fullest. If the increase in tuition fee (I pray this won't happen) is unjustifiable, unfair and stupid, then the students shall break loose all the hell like what happened in PUP. Imagine 5000 students demonstrating with full force and high emotions in front of the administration.

g0Rs September 8th, 2010, 07:53 AM Iligan City Codifies SP Resolutions & Ordinances (http://www.iligan.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4342&Itemid=762)
A landmark accomplishment of the City Government of Iligan City, spearheaded by its City Mayor, Hon. Lawrence Ll. Cruz, is the publication of the first compendium of all resolutions and ordinances passed by the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Iligan City from 1950 to 2008.
This feat was made possible through the efforts of the Editorial Board created for the project, headed by Hon. Moises Dalisay, Jr., as editor-in-chief. Kag. Dalisay says that after this first volume, the editorial board will continue with the project, until all SP Resolutions have been, edited, collated, indexed and bound.
Iligan City is one of only three local governments in the country, Tagum City in Davao del Norte, Cebu in the Visayas, and Mandaluyong in Metro Manila, which has an on-going project for the codification of their respective local laws and ordinances.

The renaming of our public roads have created much confusion. The old name was Roxas Ave and renamed to A. Bonifacio but still some media ads on our radio use Roxas as their address. I hope somebody in the city council make a clear solution to this confusion coz for me if a road has a name, then, that road from both its end should be called a single name; if it is renamed, then, that new name should prevail along its route.
Not the other way around that from first 5 kilometers its Macapagal Ave., and then on the next 5 kilometers its Roxas and on the later stretch its A. Bonifacio. Haven't we noticed that there are some offices who use Roxas while there are street signs that say "Andres Bonifacio Ave." ??? :bash:

hi TONZI, I believe the confusion does not lie with the city gov (CPDO to be more specific), as they follow their own road-/street-naming code (every city has their own, also following their national code). the confusion begins when establishments / companies declare incorrect addresses.
a continuous stretch of road, the former National Highway, for example, stretches beyond Iligan's borders at Buruun and Dalipuga, but it can be renamed by the city it belongs to. such a road, although continuous, can be sub-named at junctions, to simplify locating any building or house.
therefore, we can observe that Roxas Ave. ends at the Y-junction near GMall, and marks the start of Andres Bonifacio Ave., straight through Tambo.
DISCLAIMER: the preceding are opinions based on observation. I don't claim to speak in behalf of CPDO. Any forumer who's with the department should be able to shed some light on this matter, though.:cheers2:
g0Rs September 11th, 2010, 12:01 PM Region X wins 1st runner-up award for National Search for TESDA Idols (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=12&fi=p100909.htm&no=91)
by Marigold Cherie R. Garrido
(9 September) -- An Associate Professor of Electronics Technology of School of Engineering Technology of MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, Engr. Danilo C. Adlaon, bagged the 1st runner-up TESDA Idol National Award.
This was announced by the TESDA-10 Regional Director Edwin C. Gatinao via text message while he is attending the awarding ceremony in Manila.
The region marked a track record in this prestigious award for having garnered the first national winner of the search last year, said Dr. Remegio Gonzales who also works in the same institution.
The Search for TESDA Idol was launched by TESDA last year to give due recognition to skilled workers who have become successful through tech-voc programs.
These are the workers, whom are aptly called "Pinoy Workers of the World Well-Employed" (Pinoy WOWOWE), have contributed to the development of their communities yet have remained unnoticed.
In addition, Dir. Gatinao said this recognition helps increase the level of public awareness and appreciation for tech-voc education, as well as raise the self-confidence level and morale of tech-voc graduates.
Engr Adlaon is a graduate of a technical-vocational course for Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology at MSU-IIT, Iligan city in 1981. He worked as Electronics Technician in MSU-IIT upon finishing the tech-voc program, he pursued a degree program B.S. in Electrical Engineering until he attained the Masteral degree in Master of Teaching Technology in 1996. He is indeed one of the few who exhibits the qualities of an outstanding Filipino skilled workers.
Adlaon was duly accorded with the award at the TESDA Central Office last August 25, 2010 in time for the 16th TESDA Anniversary celebration.
Dir. Gatinao said that this year's celebration will mark the 16th anniversary with various simple but festive activities such as skills competitions, fellowship for TESDA employees and other agency promotional activities.
These activities are aimed at making the general public have a better appreciation of the opportunities in technical education and skills development or otherwise known as blue collar jobs. (TESDA 10)

It should be verified. Is this really true that Roxas Ave. name ends at the Y-junction where also the name A. Bonifacio starts? I mean if that is so, then, that is really confusing. I understand that the national highway is a stretch of road that reaches as far as Surigao City and Zamboanga City but as far as Iligan is concerned, there should be one name that should be assigned and not that way where the "A-name" starts from junction A to B, "B-name" from junction B to C, so on and so forth.
I know all of us know that the longest avenue in the world is Broadway of New York City and it stretches 241 kilometers (150 miles) from the southern tip (south) of Manhattan up to Albany (north). I mean, we can just imagine how big New York is and the number of junctions that ply along Broadway and yet to its last stretch it's still called Broadway even to the numerous municipality/city it traverses. Are there any rules of street/avenue/road naming? Or is this another "only in da Pilipins" thing? I am new to this naming thing though and it really confuses me about this avenue in Iligan...It's very disturbing. Aren't we following the basics and standards of naming public roads/streets? I am not an expert on this naming thing though but there should be a standard or norm that should be followed.

like I said, someone from CPDO should speak up to shed light on their system of road nomenclature.
OTOH, for a local Iliganon, it's really a matter of getting used to the street names. no big deal. we all know where Roxas, Aguinaldo, Bonifacio, BSOng, Quezon, Sabayle, Mercado streets are. those streets already define Iligan.
heck, most people even just need landmarks, and that's it.
the more important thing, I believe, is making and keeping all roads in good condition, and something we can be proud of.
having been away for nearly 5 years, I was in Iligan the last week of August, and I could hardly see any change in the roads' conditions. that's what disturbs me. :ohno:
doncha think so?

I always avoided websites like facebook because of such a high rate of hacking and virus on those websites. When " Explore Iligan 9200 " became a Facebook feature, obviously I could not resist starting a Facebook Account so I could participate in this.
Today when I tried to access my Facebook pages, it would not allow me to sign in unless I supplied a Cell Phone Number !
I amy be one of the few holdouts in the world as I don't even have a cell phone and I don't really want one. I wonder if this is another Facebook Hack to phish peoples cell phone numbers or if Facebook has entered some kind of business venture with cell phone and network providers.
Explore Iligan 9200 on Facebook is an open page so it can be accessed and read without a log in to Facebook. A bit dissapointing when you can not sign in to participate but it is still a good read and info source !

From what I have read about this topic there seems to be somewhat of a debate over MSU-IIT becomming its own entity or continuing on as part of the MSU system.
I realize there are advantages and maybe disadvantages to what ever the outcome of this will be and not being as familiar with this topic as much as those that are there I can only go on my own personal experiences and opinion.
I feel IIT is in a position of excellence and leadership that it can independently stand on its own two feet. I also feel that it is really what is best for todays students and those of the future are what really matter.

Iligan City and MSU-IIT
Simply Amazing !
uonno September 15th, 2010, 02:55 AM Gud morning. Iligan.
Alingatong September 15th, 2010, 08:44 AM like I said, someone from CPDO should speak up to shed light on their system of road nomenclature.
:ohno:
doncha think so?
may Iligan's leaders be blessed with a vision for the future :cheers2:
I got a chance talking to a friend from CPDO about street names. The National Highway is generally called the Butuan-Cagayan De Oro-Iligan Road. But the stretch of that road starting from Mandulog Bridge II up to the Y-Junction of M. Badelles Sr. St. (formerly Luna St) is specifically named A. Bonifacio Ave. From Y-Junction down to Tubod Bridge, it's called Roxas Ave. and that road after the bridge is named Macapagal Avenue. :)
tough September 15th, 2010, 11:22 PM Iligan exec sets public hearing on HB No. 1743
by Lorry V. Gabule
Iligan City (15 September) -- Introduced by Rep. Vicente "Varf" Belmonte, Jr. of the Lone Congressional District of lligan City, House Bill No. 1743 seeks to convert the Mindanao State University-lligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), this city into a national state university to be known as the lligan National University.
In a public hearing with the Congressman held at the MSU-IIT campus, several issues were raised from a multi-representation, approximately 500 in attendance.
Concerns of the faculty and students on the increase of tuition and other fees, decrease in employees' salaries and other benefits, security of tenure, disintegration of the MSU System, localization of IIT, and privatization/commercialization of IIT among others were deliberated.
All these were answered by Cong. Varf as the proponent, based on the primer of the bill, as to what kind of university it will be and how it differs from what is IIT today.
MSU-IIT has reached an outstanding level of accomplishments and stage of growth and development for it to be converted into a national state university, in addition to University of the Philippines (UP) and Mindanao State University (MSU).
Thus, it is high time for it to become a full-pledge and independent University, not just an institute and a unit or campus of MSU, said the proponent.
Further, IIT can be a national state university in the country to serve Southern Philippines, based on its achievements, faculty strength and varied expertise, quality of its academic programs and graduates, and physical facilities.
As such, it can provide the people of Southern Philippines, especially the tri-people of Mindanao, access to quality state-of-the-art education, as well as help answer demands for globally-competitive human resources.
Coming up with positive responses from within the MSU-IIT family, the local government unit represented by three (3) council members, the punong barangays, the civil society groups, business/industry sector, the non-government organizations, students from and outside IIT, observers and concerned constituents of lligan, the proposed conversion of the MSU-IIT into a self-determining national university in southern Philippines, can grow and develop even faster and strategically serve lligan City and Southern Philippines as the hub of socio-economic and industrial development.
It will also serve as the venue for Filipinos in the south to have easy and affordable access to quality tertiary and graduate education and programs in many fields which are currently only available in Metro Manila and outside the country.
Another public hearing is slated in October this year, so as to deliberate the house bill itself, Cong. Varf said. (PIA LDN)

tough September 15th, 2010, 11:28 PM Kasadya streetdancing highlights "Diyandi Festival sa Iligan 2010"
by Lorry V. Gabule
Iligan City (15 September) -- More exciting and colorful Kasadya 2010 awaits lligan's biggest cultural event of the year.
The Kasadya Streetdancing and Merrymaking Festival has become a major tourist attraction of lligan drawing both local and international crowds in the street parade and in the showdown proper at the Anahaw amphitheatre, city hall heights, every 27th September.
We have sent invitations to contingents from Cebu, Butuan, Zamboanga, Siquijor, Bukidnon, Midsayap, Pagadian and Ozamis to join the contest, said Ritche C. Rubio, over-all project chairman, KASADYA 2010.
The Festival's two (2) main features include:
First, the Open Invitational Category which is designed to make lligan the center of Street Dancing Competition in Northern and Western Mindanao.
This is showcasing various tribal dances with the incorporation of the battle between San Miguel and Lucifer with Eskrima as the highlight.
The Eskrima is a war dance among the Maranaos but has been adopted by the Iliganons to offer thanksgiving to Saint Michael the Archangel.
The contest is open to all schools, industries, barangays, establishments and groups in lligan City and from the neighboring cities in Mindanao and Visayas.
Chanting to the words "Viva Senor San Miguel," Kasadya" and the like during the performance is incorporated in their presentation.
Second, the Higantes San Miguel Agta Agta Contest, a challenge to creativity using materials such as newspapers and other recycled materials to create a giant San Miguel and a giant Agta.
Participants are encouraged to create historical characters relevant to KASADYA as Higantes figures.
Higantes San Miguel/Agta Agta figures must be suitable for family entertainment.
The Higantes Paper Mache Contest is open to all groups, individuals, organizations inside and outside Iligan.
Contest prizes for the street dancing presentation will get cash of P200,000.00 plus a trophy, P150,000.00 plus a trophy, P100,000.00 plus a trophy, for the champion, 1st runner-up, and 2nd runner-up, respectively. A consolation cash prize of P20,000.00 each for the non-winning group shall be given away.
The group garnering the Best in San Miguel Attire and Best in Colorful Costume will have a cash prize of P5,000.00 each.
While the Higantes Contest prizes at stake will receive each winner a cash of P25,000.00 plus trophy for Best Higantes San Miguel and Best Higantes Agta Agta, respectively. A consolation cash prize of P2,000.00 will be given away to non-winning group.
This is the time when practically the major streets of lligan are jampacked with people who wanted to celebrate fiesta and enjoy merrymaking.
Rubio said that the Junior Chamber International-lligan, Inc. (JCI), being the proponent to this annual event, has contributed to making this Festival known here in our country and abroad, showing the cultural diversity of our place. (PIA LDN)

ILIGAN CITY, Philippines – Residents of this city mobbed the free lechon (roast pig) handed out free during the “Indigay sa lechon sa Iligan” (roast pig competition) along Quezon Avenue here Monday.
Councilor Marlene Young, who chaired the competition, told dateline.ph the Indigay sa lechon sa Iligan, one the highlights of the month-long celebration of the Diyandi festival, drew huge crowds who partook of the city’s famous lechon.
Helpers chop roast pigs into bite-sized portions at the "Indigay sa Lechon sa Iligan (Iligan roasted pig competition)" on Monday, one of the major hightlights of Iligan City's month-long celebration of the Diyandi Festival 2010. The competition drew 12 entries while 20 other lechon were given free to church goers and people who came to watch the contest. (photo by RV Umel)
Young said 41lechon were displayed, including the 12 entries in the competition. The roast pigs were chopped up and handed out to the crowd in paper plates with puso (boiled rice wrapped in leaves).
“We are looking forward to sustain this activity, which promotes the city’s tourism industry,” Young said.
Dodong’s Lechon of Hinaplanon bagged first place in the competition, taking home P10,000 cash. Second place Jaime’s Lechon of Bayug took P7,000 and third prize winnder Amalia’s Lechon got P5,000. Five other participants – Aling Pinkay’s Lechon, Voltaire’s Casa de Lechon, Anduyan’s Lechon, Lola Titang’s Lechon and Milling’s Lechon – received consolation prizes of P1,000 each.
The lechon competition and feast was followed by the religious ritual “Pag pakanaug sa Imahen sa Senior San Miguel“(the lowering of the image of St. Michael the Archangel), the city’s patron saint, marking the start of a nine-day novena.
Business side:
Iligan City Lawrence Lluch Cruz lauded the city’s lechon dealers, who, he said, had placed Iligan on the map as a source of some of the best roast pig, especially from Bayug and Timoga of Barangay Buru-un .
Melvin Anggot, city information officer, said a regular lechon goes for P3,000 to P3,500 or for P350 a kilo.
Travelers and tourists who visit Iligan City usually take home a whole lechon with other Iligan products like “Sukang Pinakurat” (vinegar) and Chedding’s peanuts as “pasalubong” (gifts), Anggot said.

BobNewYorkUSA September 24th, 2010, 03:51 PM The new home of Imperial Appliance looks very exciting and it is on my list of places to go next time I visit.
There are many incedents of foriegners and tourists being " Kano Taxed " or otherwise " Ripped Off " in the Philippines. This is not something unique to the Philippines but also happens in New York City and other popular tourist destinations the world over. Airports, Taxis, retail shops, etc.
In stores I have done business with in Iligan City, I have never experienced being " Kano Taxed " or otherwise taken advantage of because I am a foriegn visitor. If anything, I would say I had just the opposite experiences in Iligan. I was welcomed, all questions politely answered, and no " funny Money " business when paying for my purchases. The things I purchased were all in good condition and are still working. I have returned to Imperial Appliance on my additional visits and made further purchases, and I am not talking about trinkets here either.
In another store in Iligan, I walked in and a few moments someone from behind the counter exclaims " Hey, you must be Bob New York ! " That store has also had repeat business from me and I do not even have to be in Iligan to do business with them.
The business savvy merchant knows that even from a foriegner from about as far away from Iligan as someone could be, there is still a big potential for " Repeat Business " in the future, and that is where the profits are, " Repeat Business " and not charging an extra few peso just because someone is from another part of the world. My compliments to Imperial Appliance Plaza and the other fine merchants in Iligan who I have dealt with.
Always something New
Things to look forward to
Iligan City
SImply Amazing !

Linguine September 25th, 2010, 10:15 AM Officials ask DPWH to Complete 3 KM Road in Lanao to Spur Economic Activity
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
September 25, 2010, 3:40pm
TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – The provincial officials of fast-growing Lanao Norte province on Saturday appealed to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to allocate funds for the completion of the remaining 3 kilometers which according to them if completed will contribute to the economic activity of the province, particularly to the farming and fishing industries.
Gov. Khalid Q. Dimaporo and Lanao del Norte solon Rep. Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo are working very hard that the unfinished part will be included in the next DPWH budget for implementation.
“We are appealing to the DPWH to include for funding the said remaining 3 kilometers stretch which is very vital to our economic activity and food security program,” stressed Gov. Dimaporo.
The 3 kilometers road will connect to the Metro Iligan Regional Infrastructure Development Project (MIRIDP).
MIRIDP is the biggest infrastructure project in the province and is expected to catalyze the economic development of municipalities covered by its implementation especially the interior towns of Lanao del Norte, the young provincial chief executive said.
On Thursday, members of the Provincial Inspectorate Team, together with Engr. Rene Penados of the Commission on Audit conducted the final inspection of the MIRIDP.
“We are inspecting the different road segments as a requisite for the issuance of the certificate of completion to the contractor. The Inspectorate Team will then make its report and recommendation on the defects observed so these can be repaired before we can finally issue the certificate of acceptance,” explained Board member Bal Zamora, chairman of the Committee on Infrastructure.
Only ninety-four percent of the total project was already successfully completed by Hanjin Construction Company.
With the passing of the loan closing date set by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on June 7, 2010, all unfinished portions of the MIRIDP will now be completed by the project beneficiary, it was learned.
“Only 3 out of the total 53 kilometers remain to be completed. However, with the conversion of this road network into national road, Gov. Dimaporo and Congresswoman Dimaporo are working very hard so that the unfinished part will be included in the DPWH budget hearing for implementation next year,” said MIRIDP-Project Management Office Project Director Engr. Dennis Aguipo.
Other members of the Inspectorate Team present were Ramon Serapio, Engr. Marietta Borillo, Abener Mabugnon, Engr. Juliet Amas, Engr. Marilyn Ballesteros, Ruth Rudinas, Adela Ancheta, Archt. Globen Catubigan, Bernie Caroro, Marciano Miculob, and Engr. Melba Maghuyop.
In another development, Gov. Dimaporo and Rep. Dimaporo led the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Barangay Bualan Health Center opening rites at Bualan area here early this week.
“I will do my very best so I can extend whatever assistance I can to this newly-opened health center so it can immediately serve the people of Bualan especially the children,” said Rep.Dimaporo during the ribbon-cutting ceremony program.
The healthcare sector have seen significant improvements over the last few years as Gov. Dimaporo focused most of his projects and programs during his first term to this critical sector.
Funding for the construction of the health center building amounting to Php 500,000 was taken from the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Mindanaoan Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri.
“We would like to say thank you to Senator Zubiri for giving us this project. The people of Bualan are very grateful for his generosity,” also said Barangay Chairman Lindbergh Lao.

Linguine September 25th, 2010, 10:17 AM 7 Villages Identified as KALAHI-CIDSS beneficiaries in Northern Mindanao province
By MIKE U. CRISMUNDO
September 25, 2010, 3:38pm
TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – At least 27 barangays are being identified as beneficiaries of the government’s poverty alleviation program, the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan- Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) in Northern Mindanao province, it was learned Saturday.
These barangays are located in the far-flung villages of Lala town, Lanao del Norte province. These 27 barangays will be granted projects totaling to Php 450,000 each bringing the total project cost for the municipality of Lala to more than Php 12 million, it was also learned.
Funds for the approved projects will be released directly to the barangay’s KALAHI-CIDSS bank accounts so that residents also manage, monitor and supervise the implementation of sub-projects.
“During the municipal inter-barangay forum, at least 80% of the residents must agree on the project that they will endorse. It is the people in these communities who will decide for themselves the projects they want,” explained Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator Ramonito Liwanag.
The greatest legacy of KALAHI-CIDSS is not in the number of structures it is able to provide the communities. It is in the number of people transformed to become more proactive, empowered, and resourceful members of the community who could determine their own paths of development and raise themselves from poverty, it was gathered.
Meanwhile, Gov. Khalid Q. Dimaporo early this week handed over a check amounting to Php 1.8 million to Lala Mayor Allan Lim representing the provincial counterpart fund for implementation of the KALAHI-CIDSS program in the municipality.
“We are so happy and we consider ourselves very lucky that we have a very dynamic governor who fully supports the municipalities especially in laudable programs like the KALAHI-CIDSS,” expressed Mayor Lim.
The KALAHI-CIDSS is the brainchild of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman.
It is the Philippine government’s flagship poverty-alleviation project implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development through the financial support of the World Bank.
KALAHI-CIDSS’ built-in transparency mechanisms have nearly attained for the Project a nil record in graft and corruption. Through a complaints and grievance system, issues pertaining to the project are addressed expeditiously.

Alingatong September 26th, 2010, 03:14 PM Cuello stops Rachman in 9th round
09/26/2010 | 04:14 PM
Filipino Denver "The Excitement" Cuello remained a strong contender for a world title fight when he stopped former world champ Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia in the 9th round Saturday night at the Mindanao State University Gym in Iligan City.
The southpaw Cuello (22-4-5, 13 KO's) dominated the fight, which was aired on GMA-7 on Sunday, with an array of accurate shots and wily movements on defense despite a slippery ring mat brought about by too much water poured by cornermen on both fighters during breaks.
After a typical feeling-out opening round, Cuello's left started to find its mark starting in the second frame, forcing Rachman to be turn more defensive.
Cuello floored Rachman with a well-timed left straight in the fifth round, but the tough Indon stood up at the count of four, looking more surprised than dazed.
The fleet-footed Cuello, who staked his World Boxing Council (WBC) International minimumweight crown, put up a rock-solid defensive effort as he made a fairly active Rachman miss most of the punches he threw.
The crowd of about 1,500 were so aware of Rachman's futile offensive attacks that when the Indon connected a rare punch to Cuello's face, it elicited a rather sarcastic applause from those who filled the upper section of the venue.
Cuello maintained his pace thropughout until he caught an obviously outclassed Rachman with a solid hook to the face that gave referee Bruce McTavish a chance to wave off the fight at the 63-second mark of the ninth round.
"I was just taking my time and being patient with my attacks because he hurt me in the fourth round with a clean punch. That showed that he is really determined to win," said Cuello in a post-fight chat.
Cuello's technical knockout (TKO) win was the first time Rachman lost by stoppage in his illustrious 76-fight, 17-year career that saw him reign as world minimumweight kingpin.
Cuello's manager Aljoe Jaro said he will now work on a possible title shot against WBC world champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai of Thailand.
Jaro believes Cuello is also ripe to move up in weight and challenge World Boxing Association (WBA) lightflyweight champion Giovanni Segura of Mexico.
Meanwhile, Rachman, who owns a fledgling construction company in Indonesia, plans to have a farewell fight in his home country before he hangs up his gloves for good. – JVP, GMANews.TV

Alingatong September 26th, 2010, 03:18 PM Jeson Crushes Chinese Foe
By KRISTEL SATUMBAGA
September 26, 2010, 5:45pm
Top seed Jeson Patrombon smashed unseeded Chinese Cao Zhaoyi, 6-1, 6-3, to cruise into the finals of the China Junior 2 Saturday in Xiamen, China.
Patrombon was so fired up he rattled his rival with his aggressive attacks at the net.
With the win, Patrombon moved within a win from clinching his first title of the year.
“Our strategy was to play fast and aggressive since these Chinese players like to rally a lot. If you engage them into long rallies, they start playing better,” Patrombon’s coach Manny Tecson said. “We managed to work it out.”
The triumph arranged the Iligan City native a date with seventh pick Nikola Milojevic of Serbia, who stunned sixth seed Sergey Shipilov of Uzbekistan, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Milojevic, 15, is only ranked No. 194 compared to Patrombon’s No. 38, but has won one Grade 4 title in Estonia and had three runner-up finishes.
Patrombon’s finals appearance already assured him of 75 ranking points, but a victory will earn him 100 ranking points and a big chance of making into the top 20 for the first time next week.

@Cant_tnac, I think some video may appear on youtube within a few days. Sometines it takes a bit longer to put a video presentation on the internet depending on if it is going to be edited, titled, etc. I think sooner or later something will appear.
If you could not be there this year, you will always have the memories of being at all of the previous ones so when the video eventually appears, you can fill in the live ambience from your memories of past years.
I hope the video will show Jollibee in the parade ! LOL

Wala ba tayong magandang hotel or in jan sa Iligan na pwede nilang matirahan? I think its time for the government to look into this and bigyan ng pansin yung accomodation natin, sayang naman. Dapat eto kailangan nilang tugunan to kasi lagi na lang pag may mga celebrity ay sa CDO parin ang tuloy nila. Dapat they(governments) should convince na we have that and its safe to stay in our city.tnx.

^^
we do have some nice decent hotels/suites like ELENA Tower Inn or CHERADEL Suites, probably the reason why they chose to stay in Cagayan De Oro instead is because their ride back to Manila is in Cagayan De Oro(airport) and of course CDO gets the credit for that.

I would agree. kasi KOresco is just 5 minutes away the lumbia airport and its veru secured here.. wala masyadong mga tao most are koreans and foreign delegates kaya wala pasyadong gumagambala sa kanila...just like last night.. when they arrive back in koresco about 11 pm... wala masyadong tao.. so freely silang mag libod sa lobby.. without suitors....

Does anyone know if there are any marine base\station\etc in or near Iligan?
I've been looking at the phone directory and I've called what were supposed to be the marines but instead were residential places.
I also called what was listed as the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) but turned out to be just the Army.

g0Rs October 8th, 2010, 09:14 AM Iligan celebrates World Teacher's Day (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=12&fi=p101006.htm&no=88)
by Lorry V. Gabule
Cagayan de Oro City (6 October) -- While the World Teacher's day is celebrated across the world on October 5, Iligan city marked it with verve and enthusiasm.
Since the importance of teachers has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), by adopting the "Recommendation concerning the status of teachers," World Teacher's Day has been celebrated annually.
This includes celebrations to honor the teachers for their special contribution in a particular field area or the community in general.
Schools Superintendent Cherry Mae Limbaco of the Department of Education (DepEd), Iligan City Division Office, said the program in the city started at 10:05 in the morning simultaneous with the activity of the different schools nationwide.
Students at the secondary level of the Iligan City National High School led the program honoring and presenting the teachers with orchid corsages, flower and greeting cards.
Groups of students representing various grade levels perform short skits or song and dance numbers, or read poetry for their teachers in front of fellow schoolmates in school-wide activities.
These activities were planned by senior students in the Student Council who coordinated the activities well in advance.
In private schools, there are some activities for the students to show their appreciation to the teachers, such as presenting gifts including cards and flowers.
It represents a significant token of the awareness, understanding, and appreciation displayed for the vital contribution teachers make to education. (PIA LDN)
g0Rs October 8th, 2010, 09:15 AM Lanao del Norte wins in Tourism National Convention (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=12&fi=p101006.htm&no=89)
Tubod, Lanao del Norte (6 October) -- Lanao del Norte grabs the top awards in both the Group Regional Costume and in the Cultural Tourism events category during the recently concluded Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) 11th National Convention held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, October 3-6.
ATOP is the official organization of all tourism officers in the Philippines accredited by the Department of Tourism and a major contributor to the development of tourism and tourism-related industries nationwide.
"We are very happy with these awards especially because we have successfully put the spotlight on our capitol town's Sagingan Festival," said Provincial Tourism Head Minda Regis.
Sagingan Festival is a feast in honor of San Isidro Labrador held every 17th of October at Tubod, Lanao del Norte. This festival is a thanksgiving celebration for the rich harvest of their sweet-tasting bananas which abound in the municipality. Participants in this event wear colorful costumes artistically made from parts of the banana tree.
Present during the national convention were Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim, SBMA Administrator Armand Arreza, DOT Undersecretary Simeon Marfori II, Phil. Biodiversity ConservationFoundation Regional Director Lisa Paguntulan, Camarines Sur Governor Lray Villafuerte and Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane, Jr.
The annual convention is a major convergence of various tourism and investment industry players graced by top officials of the Department of Tourism. (VNL/PIO-LDN)

PROJECT COMPONENTS
The solid waste management system is composed of two major components; the infrastructure development and the institutionalization program.
The infrastructure development is composed of site development, access road development, and the construction of the following buildings; namely, materials recovery and composting facility, special waste and hazardous facility, administration building, warehouses, guardhouse, motorpool, and agri-demo farm. Closure and rehabilitation of the existing dumpsite is part of the infra development.
The institutionalization program aims to strengthen the Iligan City Solid Waste Management Board and the 28 coastal and the host Barangay Solid Waste Management Committees. It includes institutionalizing the ICSWM-Project Management Office. The program includes providing alternative livelihood to affected families of Brgy Santiago and Brgy Bonbonon; recycling projects; information, education and communication campaign; strengthening the existing garbage collection fleet; and policy advocacy. Implementation of the project includes city-wide and barangay-based activities.

Tower-mad October 20th, 2010, 07:13 AM For the guys here who are active in the Pinoy Exchange forums, someone just started a thread about Iligan asking for recommendations on places that they can go to and eat at. There didn't seem to be a lot of responses (aside from the usual Maria Cristina--Tinago--Macapagal ancestral home bit) nor photos. Maybe you could help. It's a good platform for everyone to highlight Iligan's other interesting sites and dining options, both old and new.

tough October 22nd, 2010, 12:42 AM P800million allocated to Lone Legislative District of Iligan in 2011 proposed National Annual Budget

Iligan City, Philippines -More than P800 million has been earmarked for the programs and projects for the long legislative district of Iligan City in the 2011Proposed National Annual Budget.
This was learned from Cong. Vicente “Varf” Belmonte during the program of the celebration of the first anniversary in the creation of the Lone Legislative District of Iligan yesterday. Belmonte said this appropriation has passed the second reading in Congress.
The congressman said the allocation is bigger than last year because these are all for Iligan City. It maybe recalled that the allocation for 2010 was P1 billion because it included the towns along with Iligan City in District I.
Belmonte added that the annual budget of the country next year is P1.641 trillion.

yah it's really sad how our city has become into an extension route.we have one of the cleanest port because of very few ships serves the place.sad but true.but of the years i have been in shipmanagement,i still think intervention from the Local Govt. can make a big difference.how did Surigao City have Cebu Ferry 2 in their port?it's because their Local Govt.had convince that their city has something to deliver...same with our air transport in Iligan...napabayaan na kasi yung transportation sector sa ato city.even the PU's/taxi are asking over the limit..
on the other hand fastcrafts is not feasible in Iligan because of low ridership and too much badge passes.WATERJET has served and failed before.

BobNewYorkUSA October 23rd, 2010, 09:36 AM On the past few visits I have always brought a small radio with me to see what is on broadcast radio in Iligan. Unfortunately for me, I could never find one in English Language ( like what was I expecting LOL ).
Recently a new station DXMA going by the moniker of " EDGE-FM " came on the air. Soon after that they began webstreaming and I was very happy to hear the Air Staff on this station talking in English, and doing a good job of it too !
As DXMA is streaming in English I think they could really help in boosting International Tourism to Iligan City from people like me, that are only really fluent in American English or even British English ( yes, there is a bit of a difference ).
Now, DXMA EDGE FM Iligan is posted and linked on the home page of the Iligan City Website and it is prominently shown that this is an English Speaking station. Another part of Iligan that has come closer to me via internet.
Don't be too surprised if one of these days you hear me on DXMA EDGE-FM talking " Live " right from their studios in Iligan City.

Public hearing on the Proposed Revenue Code (http://www.iligan.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4570&Itemid=762)
Thursday, 28 October 2010
by:Melvin T. Anggot,Virgilio C. Garcia
Iligan City, Philippines - A public hearing will be conducted today at the Sangguniang Panlungsod session hall on the proposed amendments of the Revenue Code of Iligan City.
City Councilor Rudy Marzo, Chairman of the Committee of Ways and Means will present the 139-page proposed ordinance which is hoped will improve and enhance the revenue generation for the City of Iligan.
Invited to the public hearing for consultation are the members of the Iligan Hotels, Restaurants and Resorts Association (IHARRA), Iligan Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industries (IBCI), Chamber of Commerce and Industries Foundation of Iligan (CCIFII), Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants and different vendor groups.
Also invited to the public hearing are the City Treasurer, city hall department heads involved in the collection of regulatory fees, barangay captains and others.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Improving the economic environment in Iligan City must embody a climate that makes business less costly and employs measures that improve productivity.
Investments are very crucial at this point, and this is probably the most effective way we can generate new money into the circulation.
Kudos to everyone who initiated the proposed amendment of the revenue code. It's a good start.

Region 10 supplies 65.61 percent of Mindanao power dependability (http://www.businessweekmindanao.com/2010/10/region-10-supplies-65-61-percent-of-mindanao-power-dependability.html)
The Mindanao Power Grid had an installed capacity of 1,835.48 megawatts, during the second quarter, this year, but it had a dependable capacity of only 1,089.34MW, during the period.
Installed capacity means the number of megawatts that a power plant can produce while dependable capacity is the number of megawatts produced during peak hours, Engr. Leon M. Dacanay, Jr., Regional Director of National Economic and Development Authority, region10, said.
