wheel of steel May 11th, 2009, 04:10 PM Ang Commuter Express po ba ay yung Bicol Train?..
May Commuter Express sa Alabang to Calamba at Commuter Express from Tagkawayan to Guinobatan...
wheel of steel May 11th, 2009, 04:11 PM Para nga....
Well, aside from the resumption of the PNR service, Im really anticipating the Almazora and Sta Rosa refurbished trains...
Their work will be a gauge if we can slowly graduate from just a mere importer of trains to fabricator of trains...
I guarantee you guys the Bicol tracks are still ok except that some really looks like the embankment was eaten by grass and soil. But if they will test it, it still ok. The clips are still there though some were gone.
wheel of steel May 11th, 2009, 04:14 PM nice.. sna nga mabuksan na yan.. Metro Manila needs na talaga more trains to move millions of commuters daily.. ok din ang PNR commuter express na yan kasi it serves as a metro line din..
That's true, millions will benifits with this. It an MRT for 65km of length with trains frequency of at least 5 min each.. Wow!
Cheever May 11th, 2009, 04:15 PM May Commuter Express sa Alabang to Calamba at Commuter Express from Tagkawayan to Guinobatan...
wheel of steel May 11th, 2009, 04:17 PM Ano po ba yung Commuter Express? Para po bang BMU o parang 7A?...
Any model can ba a commuter. Pang short distance lang ang commuter train. Most of the seats are designed for shorter travel only. For long distance, of course mas comfortable.

Full operational na yan New Narita Airport Train Sir Wheel actually isa yan sa mga nagustahan kung disenyo ng JR Train at meron pang isa ang New Kesei Skyliner Train na mag seserve rin for Narita Airport sa Japan. Pwede siguro yang design na yan for Northrail.

Mostly in province siya...

Im still longing for another Japan trip with my bro. ...... Perhaps it will be operational already by that time.
wheel of steel May 11th, 2009, 04:28 PM Ahh, ang gamit niya ay parang New DMU na short distance lang kaso wala siya sa city center. Mostly in province siya...
That is regardless of whether it passess on the city or in provinces. As long as it serves as daily tranportation between two point and has numerous trip frequency.
riles28 May 11th, 2009, 04:33 PM Ay ganun. :)

wheel of steel May 11th, 2009, 04:46 PM Okey... :)
I thank him so much. I become used to it already here that this thread becomes so interesting in our daily lives. Sooner or later, right from my phone, magrereply ako just to make a fresh post.. But always in Tagalog....

Tsaka yung sleeper nya ay state of the art. Talagang pang 130kph mag express, airport o cargo....

Lucentino May 11th, 2009, 06:23 PM I have placed some model numbers on there.
The website is just for basic information on what is running.
More railfan friendly details will be in the books we are proposing.
Problem is getting the content we need, especially locomotive and carriage information pre-80s.
Brad
Thanks mate! I have seen the webpages with updated model numbers, but I think you missed updating pages of Series 2500 (http://philippine-fleetlist.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2009-01-20T17%3A54%3A00-08%3A00&max-results=1) (U10B)... no hurry though... :)
When can we expect the books (mentioned up there)? Is that proposal like the Mindanao railway (hoping stage)? Or the Matnog line (Planning/Feasibility stage)? Or the Southrail (on-hold)? Or ZTE deal (cancelled)?
I hope, aside from history, it would also cover some technical information regarding locos, DMUs, etc. --- Note: dont forget that @kaelthas have those PNR blueprints as well... :cheers1:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3545/3404572650_490e748c7c.jpg
^Is this the result of this:
Tomorrow I will go to the railway room and get photos of the different plates and what locos they came off.
In the mean time, I am still looking forward to this:
Oh my goodness, don't know who originally drew those drawings, but I have never seen a U10B with a nose before. Indeed if you put a toilet there all the squatters would be laughing at you.
Even that U15 drawing is not correct.
I think they just got one standard Yankie drawing and used it for everything.
I'm sure I have drawing somewhere - hmmm somewhere
Sorry to drill a bit too much on this uncle Brad. You (and @Mithril Cloud) seem to be my only hope in getting to know our locos more. Before I get pretty tied up with other things, I plan to create a spec-sheet based on info you provide... and yes, diagrams/drawings will be included there (unless somebody stumbles upon a manufacturer's spec-sheet somewhere).

Sir Alcogoodwin, is the line between Alabang and Biñan is close?...
It was suspended temporarily. A very short period it transpired and I am unsure the reason why.
Sadly it is impossible to instantly update all the websites regularly.
I shall update that one during the next session.
Thanks
alcogoodwin May 12th, 2009, 02:29 AM maybe in the future ,this train will be standing in front of the PNR terminal..hehe just like the good old Dagupan...
May still be possible.
Have had it confirmed that some of the 7E type carriages were still in Caloocan as of February, but all are likely destined for scrap.
Despite a number of railfan visits since, I have not recieved any confirmation of their continued existence.

OK!
Locomotive Book: Linkage project stage.
Carriage Book: Mindanao railway stsge.
Paco Booklet: Bicol line reopening stage.
Seriously though, it all comes down to the help we get from both societies (RIHSPI and Philippine Railways SIG).
The locomotive one can virtually be done with existing information, with some additions.
The carriage one will be hard and never complete. The best we could hope for is some publication with lots of carriage info and photos and hope readers will wish to contribute more.
The location booklets are small booklets with info on specific locations. Besides Paco, we have had no offers to do other locations from anyone.

shranethomas May 12th, 2009, 04:20 AM Good Day to all,
I,m back. Kahapon pumunta kami Divisoria and gusto magtrain ng sis in law ko kaya sumakay kami. Dami improvements especially sa stretch between blumentrit to espana yung dati na lubak lubak na inasahan ko nawala na... smooth ang ride sa part na yon. Busy ang tampering machine between bicutan and fti... I think. Buda car is still not on display pero malapit na. TY.

Also not in view is the collection of Tanduay banners and posters on the other wall, something I am trying to always add to.

Sind24 May 12th, 2009, 05:33 AM Bikol Express (http://www.voxbikol.com/story/669/bikol-express)
09.05.2009
It is welcome news indeed that the operations of the Philippine National Railway or PNR are set to re-commence by the middle of next year. The reopening of PNR's Manila-Bikol line may yet provide an economical and efficient transportation alternative for travelers who remain at the mercy of bus operators. For the latter appear oblivious to several oil price rollbacks and maintain fare prices set when oil prices reached an all-time high.
Nicolas Beda Priela, the Private Sector Consultant to the PNR, informed Regional Development Council (RDC) members that the completion of PNR's rehabilitation work for Bikol is scheduled by the end of this year. He identified the numerous tasks of this rehabilitation project which include not only repairing of tracks and train stations, but also the much needed refurbishing of locomotive engines, freight cars, and passenger coaches. By May 2010, the trains which were known as "the Bikol Express" (nowadays though, the name had been popularly affixed to a native, spicy dish) return to serve the public after a hiatus.
With its return, commuters may expect better coaches and shorter travel time as compared to the Bikol Express of old. Among the targets of the rehabilitation project is enabling the train to speed up to 120 kph on some track sections, hereby transporting passengers faster but in safety. Another is improving safety in its operations by installing protection devices in road-rail level crossings and by the upgrade of signaling and communication equipment and facilities Moreover, with fares expected to be usually lower than those of buses, the new Bikol Express is seen to be a more economical means of transport between the region and Manila.
Hence, it is hoped that with Bikol Express' return, the law of competition within the market would benefit commuters by driving bus fares down and by offering the former a suitable alternative in travelling. The train would give the buses a run for their money. Literally.

Literally.

SC allows lower court to hear Northrail case
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
abs-cbnNEWS.com | 05/12/2009 1:26 PM
The Supreme Court has denied a bid by the Chinese contractor in the controversial Northrail project to stop the Makati City Regional Trial Court from hearing a case filed by a group of lawyers and civil society organizations questioning the multi-billon dollar railroad project.
“Acting on the prayer for the issuance of temporary restraining order and/or writ of preliminary injunction, the Court Resolved to DENY the prayer for lack of merit,” the High Court said in a one-page en banc resolution dated March 24, 2009 and made public Monday.
Judge Cesar D. Sta. Maria, former presiding judge of the Makati City Regional Trial Court’s Branch 145, earlier denied a motion by China National Machinery and Equipment Corporation Group, its Philippine partner Northrail and the Office of the Solicitor General to dismiss a petition brought against the allegedly graft-ridden deal by lawyers Harry. L. Roque Jr., Joel R. Butuyan, Roger R. Rayel, Romel R. Bagares and Christopher Francisco C. Bolastig and joined by urban poor groups affected by the project.
CNMEC later filed a petition before the Court of Appeals asking for a reversal of the lower court ruling.
When the Court of Appeals threw out the petition, CNMEC filed an appeal with the Supreme Court. In its appeal, the Chinese firm asked the High Court to issue a temporary restraining order against the trial court while its appeal is being heard. The Supreme Court’s Third Division initially heard the case but it subsequently turned the case over to the High Court en banc.
The Office of the Solicitor General brought a separate certiorari petition with the Court of Appeals, now pending with the Seventh Division of the appellate court. Roque’s group has asked the appellate court to put on hold any hearing on the petition in deference to the High Court.
“We’re ready for an oral argument before the Supreme Court on this case,” said Roque, who chairs the Center for International Law, an NGO dedicated to the promotion of the Rule of Law in the Philippines and Asia through the observation of international legal norms.
The citizens’ suit, docketed as Civil Case No. 06-203, sought to void the contract between the Philippine government-owned Northrail and CNMEC to build a US$ 509-million railroad from Caloocan City to Malolos and a loan agreement executed between the Philippine government and China EximBank to fund the project.
In their suit, the lawyers argued that various legal and constitutional defects hound the two deals, including, among other things, (1) that it did not comply with the twin constitutional requirements that the loan should first get a nod from the Monetary Board and that it pass through the Senate’s concurrence; and (2) that it did not go through a public bidding as required by law.
Northrail and its Chinese counterpart CNMEC asked the court to dismiss the case, anchoring their principal argument on the claim that the court has no jurisdiction over the case because what is being sued is an agent of China, a sovereign state.
A May 15, 2007 omnibus order issued by the judge had denied the motions to dismiss filed by Northrail, CNMEC and the government, represented by the Office of the Solicitor General.
In his omnibus order, the judge ruled that the plaintiffs have capacity to sue because they are taxpayers who may question a government action involving the expenditure of public funds. He also said the plaintiffs were able to show in their pleadings that the contract violated the constitution and other laws that the case is of such urgency because aside from public expenditure, many informal settlers stood affected by the project.
Judge Sta. Maria also brushed aside the contentions of the defendants that CNMEC acted as an agent of the sovereign state of China, saying the deals involve private or commercial transactions and are not treaties or executive agreements between two sovereign states.
He also downplayed fears by the defendants that he has already prejudged the case by calling for summary hearings because such hearings are only meant to determine whether or not the proper court should issue a preliminary injunction against the project while the case is being heard in court. Judge Sta. Maria retired from the Bench in early April this year.
Judge Sta. Maria also denied the motions for reconsideration the defendants subsequently filed in a one page-order dated March 10, 2008. On March 17, 2006, the Makati RTC granted the plaintiffs’ motion to hold preliminary summary hearings on the case. Judge Sta. Maria retired from the Bench in early April this year.

Yes.
Went there myself in 2007.
It is a great morning shot for trains, either after the sun gets up a little to stop shadow on side of train, or on overcast days at any time.

I really don't trust that information as Bicol Trains can only travel with 120kph by the time they finished implementing Southrail or they have replaced the rails and ties suitable for heavy railways.

jafiti May 12th, 2009, 02:50 PM Good Day to all,
I,m back. Kahapon pumunta kami Divisoria and gusto magtrain ng sis in law ko kaya sumakay kami. Dami improvements especially sa stretch between blumentrit to espana yung dati na lubak lubak na inasahan ko nawala na... smooth ang ride sa part na yon. Busy ang tampering machine between bicutan and fti... I think. Buda car is still not on display pero malapit na. TY.
Thanks Marvin. We will install more pictures this weekend. Abangan!

One locomotive: An O&K built 0-4-0T of 1910.
He may be able to tell us when they stopped using it, or of any photos exist.

Is this a very narrow gauge locomotive used for the building of MRR lines? I have two pictures of O & K in action in Laguimanoc (now Padre Burgos)

Dati na kaming ng try ng ganito. We have tried this style and it was proven good and fast.

Im very confident happssss, they will reach the target. I know there technique and very much similar to KTM double tracking between Ipoh and Padang... Di pwedeyung LRT1 North Style ng pagconstruct. Mas mabigat ang loading ng Northrail and they must able to stabilize the soil ASAP.

They were separated with each other. Yung diameter ng pile is almost 1 meter and every column 6 piles are ereceted. In LRT1, they simply create a big whole of 2.5 m in diameter and simply sunk the rebars then puor concrete. In the case of Northrail viaduct, they'll have to bore those 6 piles and create a huge footing emcompassing these 6 piles. Columns will be erected above this huge footing.

Once you design a viaduct, kailangan you have to specify kung ano yung topography ng lupa na dadaanan ng riles. Before they started construction, they made first series of soil test. Because in these soil test, they will deteremine which type concruction is suitable for that area.
wheel of steel May 12th, 2009, 03:40 PM BTW, hanggang saan ba aabot ang Northrail?
When designing viaducts for railways you need to study the load expected on that viaduct. Theyre were very much concerned of the locomotives (the heaviest one expected to pass) and that is no other than Diesel Locomotives. Yung mga bago ngayon, average weight is 80 - 90 tons and LRVs are no match with this.

Once you design a viaduct, kailangan you have to specify kung ano yung topography ng lupa na dadaanan ng riles. Before they started construction, they made first series of soil test. Because in these soil test, they will deteremine which type concruction is suitable for that area.
Diba mag extend yan up to Tutuban Terminal. Magiging 4 tracks itong riles malapit dito sa amin. At from Tutuban Terminal ba ma extend din ba ang northrail up to North Harbor?

Eto pala out my memory lang, there is (or was) a short spur line of PNR in Tunasan, Muntinlupa. Its actually a line that goes inside Pacwood, I think its the one that made timber power post for Meralco before. the switch is right after the Tunasan river at the boundary of San Pedro and Muntinlupa if you are coming from the south heading north. Although I can't verify it, most probably there is another spur line for train coming from the north entering this factory.

le Reine May 12th, 2009, 09:04 PM They were separated with each other. Columns will be erected above this huge footing.I see. If I'm not mistaken, this was also done in the foundations of the Petronas towers because the soil there is also very soft. I think the same it also true for the Tibet railway to avoid permafrost. So that's how soft the soil is in Bulacan?

Most of the areas along the ROW in Bulacan are alluvial deposits. When they constructed the original Manila-Dagupan line, they had difficulty constructing bridges because of this. Opening of the line was delayed too because of problems encountered in constructing Calumpit bridge. If they will not elevate Northrail, baka kailangan ng steam boat instead of trains.

It was of 2ft gauge.
I suppose it may have been used for building MRR, but it was supplied new to San Miguel to work for them.
There were however four other narrow gauge O&K narrow gaugelocos that went there.
All 0-4-0T
2 x 750mm
2 x 600mm (strange gauge, just under normal 2ft)
Two for LAGER MANILA

wheel of steel May 13th, 2009, 02:14 AM China firm loses bid to stop Northrail case (http://www.bworldonline.com/BW051309/content.php?id=046)
THE SUPREME Court has junked a Chinese company’s bid to halt litigation over the legality of the $503-million Manila-Clark Rapid Railways or the Northrail project before the Makati Regional Trial Court.
In a resolution, the high court said the Chinese firm’s request for an injunction did not have merit.
In February, the China National Machinery & Equipment Corp. Group asked the high tribunal to halt proceedings at the Makati court.
The litigation could strain the relationship between China and the Philippines, it claimed.
The Makati Regional Trial Court has received evidence on the Northrail case on the back of a Court of Appeals ruling. The appellate court late last year ordered the proceedings to continue amid a clamor from nongovernment organizations for the contract be annulled as it did not go through public bidding.
The project, which will rehabilitate the old northern line of the moribund Philippine National Railways, will link Metro Manila to the Clark Economic Zone in Pampanga.

No I think they are going to have another station between it and the second.
Will this be the only Philippine station to have had three sites? I think a couple have had two, Tutuban especially.

Sky Harbor May 13th, 2009, 04:19 PM POSTERS
Dear SSC Railways Forumers and Team RIHSPI,
I would like to propose that we put the following posters inside the 7A coaches:
1. AKO AY RESPONSABLENG PASAHERO NG TREN. ANG PAMASAHE AY BINABAYARAN NG TAMA AT HINDI DINARAYA.
2. TICKET FIRST BEFORE BOARDING
3. HUWAG IPATONG ANG PAA SA UPUAN
4. PNR TRAIN: PILIPINONG NAGMAMAHAL SA RILES AT TRAIN
5. ANG TREN AY SASAKYAN, HINDI BASURAHAN
6. NEW PNR AIRCON TRAINS SOON
PNR TRAIN should be PNR TREN. *purist tendencies at work*
However, signs at trains and stations would be an excellent idea! :okay:
Mithril Cloud May 13th, 2009, 05:36 PM Better yet, turn it into fully Filipino.
Sky Harbor May 13th, 2009, 05:49 PM ^^ Sign number 6: PARATING NA ANG BAGONG TREN NG PNR NA MAY AIR-CON. Actually, PNR is translated into Filipino as Pambansang Daangbakal ng Pilipinas. The appropriate acronym would be PDaP, since PDP is already used by the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-LABAN, Aquilino Pimentel's party). That would mean that the sign, if fully Filipinized, would read as follows: PARATING NA ANG BAGONG TREN NG PDaP NA MAY AIR-CON.
Mithril Cloud May 13th, 2009, 05:52 PM But is that translation even recognized by the PNR? If not, that would be overdoing it.
Anyway, to complete the set: 2. TIKET MUNA BAGO SUMAKAY
Sky Harbor May 13th, 2009, 05:54 PM ^^ It's in a list of translations of state-owned companies and government agencies I found in a dictionary. The list was issued by the Surian ng Wikang Pambansa, the current Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, back in the 1960s, when Filipino (then Pilipino) was still unfettered by the scourge of Taglish.
Anyway, if you want to be really purist, number 2 would be "BOLETO MUNA BAGO SUMAKAY".
Mithril Cloud May 13th, 2009, 06:00 PM I'm not sure if many would be able to understand that.
Anyway, the point is making it understandable to the general masses, not to purely translate.
Sky Harbor May 13th, 2009, 06:02 PM ^^ Well, not a lot of people know that the Filipino word for "card" can either be the English "kard" or the Spanish "tarheta". By extension, "credit card" can either be "kredit kard" or "tarheta de kredito" (at one time, I translated it as "tarhetang utang"), with the latter sounding better than the former. As much as Filipino is an evolving language, it is a horrible sight to see its written form be littered with English words where there are appropriate Filipino/Tagalog translations.
But moving on from signage, hopefully the new DMUs will have electronic signs! :D

Pardon my purism in Spanish, "tarheta" is spelled as "tarjeta".
Sky Harbor May 13th, 2009, 07:22 PM ^^ Not in Tagalog/Filipino. :D

They will replace it with concrete blocks. Crossings normally has the same construction with ties and ballast in order to be tampered and straighten. Of all the portions in the tracks, crossings must be secured enough to allow smooth pass. Once tampered, the precast concrete blocks will be installed to flatten the surface of the tracks and also for the vehicles to pass smoothly.
The current ones that were using is only asphalt covered which cannot be tampered. Its a quick fix but it will soon be replaced with concrete blocks like the one in Espanya.

Batangas is a must really, as are inland freight terminals outside of Manila and at other major locations.
It must be so obvious to anyone in government that the day of road freight must be brought to an end, except as feeders to a major rail hub.

Actually, those words are now hard to understand because they fell out of common use in the 1970s. Taglish, propagated by the "Manila Sound" of Hotdog, became in, so to speak. Prior to that, very rarely would Tagalog and English mix in either dialogue or print, and people were still fluent in both languages. Pilipino at the time had purist tendencies.
The bigger blunder though in Taglish came from the moving of the medium of instruction from English to Filipino. No only did we begin replacing words en masse out of convenience ("Nasa refrigerator ang pagkain mo" is supposedly easier than "Nasa palamigan ang pagkain mo"), our English fluency also went into decline. The second was the definition of what Filipino is: a Tagalog-based language which is enriched by other Philippine languages, English, Spanish, etc. More often than not, instead of borrowing from Philippine languages or Spanish, we borrow from English, which led to our current predicament.

This is a very interesting topic for me. I watched a fantastic episode of Manalo Quezon's show here all about Tagalog and how it came about.
Think it was on my last trip, or the one before, they were debating mostly teaching english in schools there.
Many were complaining, and I agree, that this would mean the awful loss of the language. This should never be done.
Where do you guys personally see the Tagalog language in 30 years given the changes now?
My youngest son has been taught to speak Tagalog. Wish his dad found it so easy :-)

At the moment the ANZ division is handling North America and we invite members to help us with this project..
Check HERE (http://philippinerailwayhistoricalsociety.blogspot.com) for more details.
Please feel free to join, we need all the support we can get, so we can give the guys in Manila all the support we can.
One day there may be a seperate division, if anyone else is as mad as us to go into the huge amount of work required to set such a group up outside the Phils.
