daily commuter September 16th, 2009, 11:43 AM ^^Another news from PNR.. Tuloy pa rin byahe ni T407. Paalis na daw ngayong 5:30pm sa Tutuban.
Confirmed! Nakaalis na ng Tutuban ang T-407 ng 5:30PM today
Bahay_Kubo September 16th, 2009, 11:59 AM hello Pinoy railfans! :)
hello Sir Happy Happs, Sir D.C., Sir absinthe at sa lahat lahat na! :)
@ Sir Happy Happs, nice photos of the Blue Whales. bale natutulog lang ba sila sa shed nila sa Tutuban? may plans ba na bigyan sila ng repairs or upgrades at nang muli silang tumakbo?
i still wish to see the Blue Whales wearing their old blue livery and the old PNR logo. :D

Another look of the kitty cat resting on the soft accomodation by PNR track ballast
Bahay_Kubo September 16th, 2009, 02:33 PM it's really disappointing to hear or read news about those new DMU's breaking down this early. sayang naman yung ginastos natin kung masisira agad ang mga yun. :ohno:
Mojacko September 16th, 2009, 02:51 PM ^^ Perhaps that's why the Grey Sharks are teasingly nicknamed DMU - "Daling Masira Units"!?
Anyway, still from last Monday's PNR ride - while waiting for Train 403 at Alabang (also posted on the "Funny Signs in the Philippines" thread):

Loose translation: No water. Do not defecate, urinate only.
The sign was useless anyway; the bathrooms were not in service, the staff told me.
:ohno:
boom_box September 16th, 2009, 04:03 PM 1km to 10km the range in which construction might takes place. The highway of Misamis is winding based on the images at google. That could be exactly the cause why they have to design a tunnel to correct and follow the design parameters for 160kph line speed. Too many curves will result if they follow the terrain of Misamis Oriental.
indeed.. TBM's in action... parang Channel Tunnel ang dating...

pi_malejana September 16th, 2009, 10:23 PM Tama ba to Sir, 2026? 17 years pa naman yan.
US$38billion daw eh...
ay naku sana nga, pati sa Cagayan may linya na by that time...:D

^^Habang may buhay may pag-asa.
US$38billion daw eh...

^^Ang saya siguro nun.. Magbabakasyon ka sa Pagudpud via PNR. Hmm.. Ilang oras kaya ang byahe? Dapat by that time may diner car na ang PNR.
Hmm... kaya pala may built-in kitchen at living room si rerailment car...
Puwede ka rin magpalaba habang bumibyahe. May built-in sampayan din kasi sya...:lol:

:ohno::ohno:

Very nice.
I think PNR fans should be patient with the rehab.
Well, if they were able to rehab the rolling stocks in Naga sana naman yung sa Manila din para mawala na talaga yung image na bulok ang PNR which is definitely not true today.
Christian_123 September 17th, 2009, 03:33 AM From what i heard, puro pintura at loob lang ang ginawa sa Naga coaches. Kaso, un boogies ay un luma parin. Kinulayan lang..

partly true siguro. Kasi from the pictures posted by Bobbymay74, kita sa pictures yung mga gi shhet tsaka pangwelding.

Yup, only if the alignment will directly hit a mountaneous terrain and that there is no economical option, tunneling applies.:)
shranethomas September 17th, 2009, 04:44 AM I am still hoping PNR will turn things arround. Also include natin ang Mindanao railways.

This is T-407 bound for Biñan, Laguna.

kratos1211 September 17th, 2009, 01:30 PM PNR train bogs down in inaugural run
By Juan Escandor Jr., Pons Caudilla
Philippine Daily Inquirer
NAGA CITY, Philippines - It took more than five hours for the commuter train of the Philippine National Railways to travel through the 80-kilometer stretch (not 377 km as earlier reported) in its inaugural run, on Wednesday.
And before it could embark on another trip, the old engines of the train, which traveled from Tagkawayan, Quezon, to Naga City, in Camarines Sur, bogged down.
Leaving Tagkawayan station at about 5 a.m., the commuter train, which was expected to arrive at 9 a.m. at the Naga PNR Station, came an hour late.
Nevertheless, the train was welcomed here by the excited crowd, who had not been served by the PNR, for three years.
The PNR has scheduled the Tagkawayan-Naga, Naga-Ligao, Ligao-Naga, and Naga-Tagkawayan trips.
But before the commuter train could leave this city to its final Bicol destination in Ligao City in Albay, the locomotives broke down and were sent to the shop for repair.
"The engines are old so they shut down," locomotive operator Romeo Caucil told the Daily Inquirer.
Confident of the feat to beat the deadline of running the train not later than the Peñafrancia Fiesta this week, the PNR management decided to send back the commuter train Wednesday night to Tagkawayan and to go back Thursday with devotees of the Virgen of Peñafrancia.
With its inaugural run to Bicol from Tagkawayan, Quezon to Ligao, Albay, the PNR is offering free rides until Sunday in celebration of the Peñafrancia Fiesta.
At 5:54 p.m. Wednesday, the three-coach commuter train left Naga PNR Station en route to Tagkawayan. It chugged laboriously across rice fields until it approached a rail bridge in Sampaloc, Pamplona, Camarines Sur, where it overheated and stopped, some 20 km up north of Naga City.
Earlier in the day, the engines were repaired in time for another test-run going back to Quezon. After several calls on their cellular phones, concerned employees of the PNR aboard the commuter train discussed whether or not to continue the run going to Tagkawayan, where it could have provided free services to Peñafrancia devotees from Quezon in the early morning Thursday.
"We will not push to go back to Tagkawayan because we are afraid we might just give so much inconvenience to the riders," Caucil said in explaining why they had shelved the ride back to Quezon.
The engines of the locomotive roared back to life after being repaired for more than 30 minutes and it went back to Naga City and reached the station at past 7 p.m. Constancio Toledano, manager of the Naga PNR Station, revealed that the engines easily overheated because the two locomotives were surpluses from Singapore bought way back in 1987.
On the train's way to Naga City from Tagkawayan, the engines bogged down several times, he said. Toledano said that after assessing the first commuter train run, they decided to shelve the plan to extend its operation to Ligao City for the meantime.
As of press time on Thursday morning, he said the two engines of the locomotives were still in the shop being reconditioned.
"The commuter train will run again going to Tagkawayan if the engines would run by four o'clock in the afternoon," Toledano said.
The commuter train is composed of two 60-passenger capacity first-class coaches and a third-class coach with a capacity of more than 100 passengers, according to Beda Priela, chief of staff of the general manager.
Manuel "Ower" Andal, PNR general manager, said the commuter run had exceeded expectations when it was able to beat the deadline to link Tagkawayan to Naga.
Andal said the rehabilitation of the PNR lines solely depended on available government funds from the Office of the President and endorsement from Congressman Diosdado Ignacio "Dato" Arroyo.
Despite the glitches, Andal was optimistic about the opening of a Metro Manila-to-Bicol line by March next year. He revealed that some P400 million had already been programmed for the rehabilitation work.
A feasibility study of the National Economic and Development Authority on the railway operation in Bicol showed a two-phase project with the first phase involving rehabilitation and reconstruction works of 89 percent of the southbound railway tracks from Calamba, Laguna to Legazpi City in Albay, which stretches 422.662 kilometers.
It is estimated to cost US$627.81 million. The second phase is the construction of a 112.23-km new rail line extending to Matnog, Sorsogon (takeoff port towards the Visayas and Mindanao) from Legazpi City. It will cost the government US$304.23 million.

^^Sumakay ako kanina kay T-407. From Tutuban to Blumentritt station lang.
| Tutuban..........<- DMU05 - >...........Tayuman
| Tutuban..........<- DMU04 | DMU03 ->Tayuman
| Tutuban...<- DMU01 | DMU02 ->.......Tayuman

The good news is that all 18 railcars to be acquired under the Northrail-Southrail Linkage Project, Phase I has been delivered on time by Rotem of Korea and are ready for operations. The commuting public can look forward to fast, comfortable, reliable and punctual trains. The six 3-car train sets can make as many as 100 trips a day between Tutuban and Alabang. No more waiting, no more asking what time the 8 o’clock train will arrive, no more fully packed trains, no more late arrivals and missed appointments.
The bad news is that all of the above will not happen. At least not until after the repair and reconstruction of the tracks and other railway facilities are completed by the Korean contractor, Hanjin. Originally projected last April 2009, completion is now—according to the most optimistic forecast—March next year. But at the rate Hanjin is doing the job, we should not be surprised if the project will be completed only in December 2010.
The above would be funny if the implications are not serious. At present, there are only 10 trips a day and these are between Tutuban and Bicutan only. Two train sets are used; the other four are idle—monuments to the inefficiency of the Korean contractor. Considering that these rolling assets are worth all of $30 million, the PNR management should shed its complacency and read Hanjin the riot act or, better still if possible, replace the present contractor with one who can do the job better. Perhaps the Korean government, through its local ambassador can do something about this embarrassment. After all, it is their policy that Korean-funded projects be contracted out only to Korean contractors.
In the meantime, sorry na lang to those commuters who thought that their commuting problems would be solved by those sleek world-class commuter trains. Perhaps by Christmas, not the coming one but the next one, you will have what you deserve!

Revolving seats in PNR trains (http://opinion.inquirer.net/inquireropinion/letterstotheeditor/view/20090808-219245/Revolving-seats-in-PNR-trains)

I just want to make a comment regarding Belinda Olivares-Cunanan’s July 23 column titled “Wanted: efficient trains for working commuters.”
In that piece, she said, “But I think too much money was sunk into the first-class trains with their revolving deep-cushioned seats and yellow silk curtains (why revolving seats?).”
The newly refurbished coach is not a commuter coach but a “De Luxe” coach for passengers going to or coming from Bicol and the Southern Tagalog region. It used to have reclining and revolving chairs with white fabric and the PNR logo at the headrest.
All PNR De Luxe coaches are with reclining and revolving chairs. Cunanan should visit the Tutuban shed to see the white De Luxe coaches. The coaches have a revolving mechanism to allow their seats to turn.
Why the revolving seats? This is to eliminate the use of a triangle rail or a turntable to make the coaches and their seats face in the direction a train is going. All trains can run forward or backward with the same speed, unlike road vehicles which can do the reverse only at low speed.

Clean trains, clean service, frequent travels, and siyempre freight trains na tiba tiba. Iba ibang train set, like the "Bicol Express" would be those old orange trainsets na may old type of GE locomotive, serries 2000 ata yun. Siyempre kahit luma na ang paint scheme with modern amenities like air-conditioned na mga coaches, with stewardess na nag serve sa mga pasahero, "sir would you like to have a pillow?" sagot mo naman sure why not cooconut:lol:. corny hehehe. Imagine all of these ay nangyayari sa super busy na Tutuban Central station. Tapos maririnig mo "Ilokos Express is ready to depart please board your trains now, thank you for choosing Philippine National Railways, serving the Philippines 160 years, enjoy your ride, thank you". Tapos tagalog version "Salamat po, Mabuhay" hehehe. Then while the train is pulling out from the yard to the mainline you will see lots different rolling stocks. Whew...:lol:

finally, a retired PNR employees wrote a letter to the Inquirer to make the public aware about the "patarantadong trabaho" that Hanjin is doing. it is high time that the public would be made aware about what this contractor is doing to an infrastructure project that would be beneficial to everyone. it is high time that someone in the PNR (hello Mike Defensor!) compel Hanjin to do its job the way it should be done.

Bakit ako magso-sorry? Sila ang dapat mag-sorry (Why should I say sorry? They should be the ones apologizing)." This was Vice President Noli de Castro’s response to calls for him to apologize for his “outburst" against militants and members of the urban poor sector who interrupted his speech in Los Baños town in Laguna province last Thursday. “Dapat sila ang mag-sorry dahil binastos nila ako. Nag-drive ako ng 2.5 hours para pumunta sa Los Baños then pagdating ko doon, babastusin nila ako (It’s they who should apologize for being rude to me. I didn’t drive for two-and-one-half hours to Los Baňos to be insulted)," De Castro said over his Saturday radio program Para sa Iyo Bayan. De Castro drove to Laguna to award land titles to beneficiaries of the government’s housing program on Thursday. In the middle of his speech, he was interrupted by members of the Kalipunang Damayan ng Mahihirap (Kadamay), who were protesting against what they claimed were “anti-poor" government programs like the South Rail Project. The protesters expressed concern that tens of thousands of residents would be evicted from their homes when the 423-kilometer railway line from Calamba, Laguna to Legazpi City in Albay undergoes a reconstruction as part of the two-phase project. De Castro went on with his speech but took a swipe at the rallying militants, saying: “Sana nilapitan na lang ako. Baka kulang lang … KSP… kulang sa pansin (They could have just approached me instead of launching a rally. Maybe they are just insecure people)."

The railroad network in the Visayas (II)
In the previous column, it was stated that the construction of a system of railroads in the Visayas was one that was given emphasis by the government authorities in the early days of the American occupation of the Philippines. These railway lines were to be constructed in Panay, Cebu and Negros.
The preparation for the construction of the Visayan railway system began in June 1906. After location surveys were completed, orders were placed for large quantities of construction materials, tools and machinery, 4 locomotives, 50 construction flat cars of 40 tons capacity and 50 ballast cars from the United States (Manila Daily Bulletin, November 3, 1907).
In order to be able to unload and care for the shipments upon their arrival and for all future orders, surveys were made for terminal grounds. These were found in Lapuz, La Paz across the City of Iloilo and along the pier in the City of Cebu. Temporary wharves and bodegas were constructed, and temporary tracks of light rails were laid to help in the storage and movements of the materials and tools.
By the early part of November 1906, the task of locating the lines where the railway will pass were partially done. The relevant maps and profiles of the final location of a 36-km. line from Iloilo City to Pototan and another 36-km. line from Cebu City to Danao had been filed with the Insular Government. On November 14, 1906, the American governor-general formally opened the construction of the Panay line in Iloilo, followed by that in Cebu on November 17 (Report of the Philippine Commission 1907).
In both Panay and Cebu, construction works involved not only the laying of the railroad tracks but also grading of the land and construction of the terminal building, bridges and culverts. The steel spans for bridges were fabricated in the U.S.
To provide for the operation of the lines whose construction was in full swing in mid-1907, orders were placed in the U.S. for 6 additional locomotives, 23 passenger coaches, and 80 freight cars. At this point, there were already in Panay and Cebu 7 locomotives and 100 freight cars (Manila Daily Bulletin November 3, 1907).
The locomotives were American in make and consisted of 50-ton for heavy construction work and ballasting, 30-ton and 35-ton for mixed train service. Generally, 70-pound steel rails, hardwood of the highest grade for ties and 6 inches of ballast were used. The passenger coaches had steel underframe and were equipped with complete air brakes and signals. The first-class and parlor coaches were finished in teak and the second class in sheated yellow pine (Report of the Philippine Commission 1909).
The railroad project in Negros, on the other hand, was postponed by the Americans to a later date because of the pre-occupation on Panay and Cebu. Unfortunately, the work on the Negros line never materialized.
On September 16, 1907, the Philippine Railway Co. opened the 36-km. line between Talisay and Danao in Cebu. In Panay, the first 36-km. line from Iloilo City to Pototan was opened some time in December 1907. The complete line to Capiz was not completed until June 1910 (Manila Daily Bulletin November 3, 1907).

Sana by next year simulan na Northrail phase diyan sa Pampanga, possible kaya?:)
i think full blast na.. possibleng possible yan, it's election fever :)
navideohan pala namin on the way sa ibang street ung northrail.. mas clear ung width ng row nya dun, am currently uploading it on youtube :)
it looks narrow kasi ung blue bldg on the left ay within the row,, it'll take longer to remove this kasi it's a business establishment.. anyway im posting a video of northrail from another street, i think you can better judge the width of the row there :)
TheNicoVillanueva September 20th, 2009, 12:31 PM So is the rails. The rails are gone too. Tama nga ba ako yan nga ba ang right of way na nasa gitna?.:)
yan ung old row. the rails were scavenged after the demolition. i think. basta i'm sure that the rails were still there before the demolition because it was embedded on the cement :) you can see the overhanging rails from the cement at the bottom of the pic..
nope, they're lucky because, from what i see, the width expansion of the row is eastward. not on both sides :)
Bahay_Kubo September 20th, 2009, 12:41 PM it looks narrow kasi ung blue bldg on the left ay within the row,, it'll take longer to remove this kasi it's a business establishment.. anyway im posting a video of northrail from another street, i think you can better judge the width of the row there :)
hey Nico! what's up? :)
thank you for providing the pictures of the development on the Northrail side of things. it is so nice to see the slow but sure development on that side of the PNR railway system. :)
hmmmm... bale marami palang legitimate business establishments ang sumakop sa PNR ROW sa Angeles? how about sa ibang areas ng Pampanga at Bulacan? ganun din ba?

well,, you can call it my hobby.. i just feel that it's my responsibility to tell the whole philippines that we're not hopeless.
actually konti lang ung matatamaan nyang establishments.. not sure if they're legit. mostly squatters lang tatamaan nya.. in angeles the big business that it would hit are jolibee clark-main gate, and the hotels in fields avenue. but i think the biggest challenge in pampanga is the san miguel brewery because the row practically divides the plant. smc requested that it be viaducted*. i don't have any news on bulacan.. i only see it from pampanga.. pero kung titingnan mo din.. pagnatapos ang isang activity sa pampanga, sigurado taung tapos narin sa bulacan weeks earlier. :)
Bahay_Kubo September 20th, 2009, 12:56 PM ^^ now, that's what i call a really cool hobby, Sir Nico! :)
a San Miguel Corporation Brewery Facility sitting right over the PNR ROW? what the?! hindi ba alam ng San Miguel na PNR ROW yung lupa ng planta nila and now they are asking to build a viaduct over their plant instead of vacating the area since lumalabas na squatter sila sa lupa ng PNR?!
happosai September 20th, 2009, 01:03 PM ^^OK lang na naka viaduct. Basta SMC ang mag popondo..

precisely!
Bahay_Kubo September 20th, 2009, 01:41 PM ^^ aside from them paying for the viaduct that would pass right over their plant, baka may balak din silang magbigay ng bagong Blue Whales PNR. wala lang.

no no,, i mislead you.. the row runs through the lot but not under any of its buildings. it'd just be a problem for them since there's heavy traffic inside. there are so many trucks coming and going by the hour that its own avenues are wider than NLEx. take note that the san fernando brewery is i think the second biggest smc brewery in the country, supplying the whole luzon, except NCR. splitting the plant in half or moving to another location would spell disaster..
but anyway, smc may be forced to finance the viaduct kasi they're at a disadvantage. viaduct or not, northrail will still push through.
heto na, heto na, heto na.
after hours of attempting to upload on youtube, i gave up. sa facebook ko nalang inupload ung video ng NRt (i just wanna call it NRt para sounds like MRT/LRT)

i am liking the old PNR logo on the new couches. kitang kita mo how much it has progressed over the years. i grew up hearing the PNR trains everyday but never had a chance to try it. maybe next time na nandyan ako makakasakay kami ng aking tsikiting. congratulations and more power sa lahat ng involved sa project na to.

Sky Harbor September 20th, 2009, 07:04 PM ^^ Blumentritt is the closest example of an LRT and PNR station being close together, followed by EDSA (PNR-MRT) and Santa Mesa (PNR-MRT2).

Sen. Edgardo J. Angara pushed Sunday for the establishment of a national railway system in the country to boost economic progress and national development, considering the wide-ranging economic and social benefits of investing in a nationally-linked rail system.
“Enacting a comprehensive policy for the establishment of a national railway system has long been overdue, considering the food and fuel crisis that many countries of the whole world now suffer. Having a definitive government policy on this matter will ensure an efficient and effective mass transport system nationwide that will facilitate the movement of people, goods and services around the country,” said Angara, who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance

it's a good thing that Senator Angara has now thought of a national railway system. we can actually link the railway system that is fully in place in Luzon (provided that the Southrail would reach Matnog, Sorsogon) with a new railway system within the islands of Samar and Leyte (we can connect the Samar and Leyte railway systems by building either a bridge that would run parallel to the San Juanico Bridge or an undersea railway tunnel) by building an undersea railway tunnel right beneath the San Bernardino Strait, the body of water separating Luzon and Samar (narrowest point is eight kilometers wide, according to Merriam-Webster's geographical dictionary (http://books.google.com.ph/books?id=Co_VIPIJerIC&pg=RA1-PA1038&lpg=RA1-PA1038&dq=San+Bernardino+Strait+kilometers&source=bl&ots=PvmJlDBu10&sig=BRZ_x4QcjM7BFPdiip68hFOwH6s&hl=en&ei=o_a2SsuxHoWgsgOmyvTRDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3#v=onepage&q=&f=false)).
i just do not know if it is possible to connect the railway system in Samar-Leyte with that of the railway system in Mindanao given the fact that the Surigao Strait, the body of water separating Leyte from Mindanao, is much wider (width of 16 to 40 kilometers, according to Merriam-Webster's geographical dictionary (http://books.google.com.ph/books?id=Co_VIPIJerIC&pg=RA1-PA1140&lpg=RA1-PA1140&dq=Surigao+Strait+Merriam-Webster%27s+geographical+dictionary&source=bl&ots=PvmJlDCpYZ&sig=KNSsiqigc8p6iD5s7cZlV264guA&hl=en&ei=Yvi2Sqr5MIbKsAP4s7zQDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1#v=onepage&q=&f=false)).

Bahay_Kubo September 21st, 2009, 06:11 AM ^^ ikaw naman. libre naman ang mangarap eh.
seriously, the more feasible option would be to have the railway systems of Luzon, Samar-Leyte and Mindanao be inter-connected to port areas. kung baga, yung mga isasakay na mga pasahero at mga kargamento sa mga tren ay deretso na agad sa mga barko dahil yung riles ay konektado sa mga pier. :)

kratos1211 September 21st, 2009, 10:28 AM PNR train derailed; Bicol run suspended
By Juan Escandor Jr.
Inquirer Southern Luzon
NAGA CITY, Philippines—The commercial run of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) train on Bicol to Quezon routes was put on hold Monday after the train got derailed in one of its trips Sunday, local authorities said.
The PNR train was supposed to serve Tagkawayan and the routes of Quezon-Naga City, Camarines Sur-Ligao City, and Albay starting Monday.
Beda Priela, chief of staff of the general manager, said the PNR management suspended operations after its Bicol commuter train got derailed on Sunday in Barangay (Village) Del Rosario, Lupi, Camarines Sur at about 8 a.m. on its way to Naga City from Tagkawayan, Quezon.
Priela called it a "minor derailment" in which the engine stopped before the train went off the rail tracks because of loose wooden ties.
He said the commuter train was running at an estimated speed of 50 km/hr and no one was hurt among the passengers who were on their way to celebrate the Peñafrancia Fiesta in Naga City.
Priela said mechanics and workers were sent immediately to the derailment site to re-rail the locomotive and another coach. These were successfully driven back to the PNR Naga station for further repair.
On Monday, the locomotive went back to Del Rosario to tow back to this
city the two remaining coaches, which were left behind.
Priela said they had moved the target for a commercial run to the end of September.
"Even though we were not able to meet our objective of providing free rides for the Peñafrancia Fiesta, on the positive note, we have identified the weaknesses and strengths in the system. We could have not probably known these if we had not run the train," he explained.
Priela said the second-hand diesel-fed engines manufactured by General Electric and were acquired in 1987 from Singapore should be further reconditioned because its electrical wirings have been failing, causing them to shut down due to overheating.
Ding De Guzman, PNR consultant for rolling stocks, said spare parts and electrical experts would have to be brought in from abroad to fix the train.
De Guzman said that during the repair of the locomotives, rail tracks would be rehabilitated and wooden ties would be replaced with concrete ones.
Priela said that the Bicol commuter train made a successful run on Thursday as it reached Tagkawayan without hitch at about 10 p.m..
Tagkwayan is about 80 kilometers away from Naga City where it left at 5:43 p.m.
However, on Friday the engines again overheated in Sipocot, Camarines Sur at about 8 a.m. after it left Tagkawayan at 5 a.m.
The engine was revived at 1 p.m. and was sent back to Naga City.
Priela said the passengers of the train who were on their way to attend the Peñafrancia Fiesta were made to transfer to a bus to reach Naga City.
As the Bicol commuter train reached Naga City, the engine was again repaired the whole afternoon Friday and it was able to go back in the afternoon at Tagkawayan, arriving there at 9:20 p.m.
On Saturday, it left Naga City and made another successful run to Tagkawayan until it conked out again on Sunday in going to Naga City.
Priela said they would deploy teams to inspect and determine the integrity of the rail tracks.
"We don't want to start commercial operation just to earn jeers from the passengers so we want to make sure that the system would be okay before running again the Bicol commuter train," he added.

absinthe_888 September 22nd, 2009, 02:52 AM ^^ ikaw naman. libre naman ang mangarap eh.
seriously, the more feasible option would be to have the railway systems of Luzon, Samar-Leyte and Mindanao be inter-connected to port areas. kung baga, yung mga isasakay na mga pasahero at mga kargamento sa mga tren ay deretso na agad sa mga barko dahil yung riles ay konektado sa mga pier. :)
Libre ba mangarap? hehehe.
Pero the port area option would be more feasible and definitely less bukol kehza gumawa ng tunnel. Parang pag nagtunnel ang gagawin, budget na ng govt for 1 year ang gagastusin eh :D

SOUTHRAIL RESETTLEMENT UPDATES:
Tomas at Tanuan.

Yung sang katerbang IS, panis na yan ngayon. Tomas at Tanuan.
wheel of steel September 22nd, 2009, 05:04 AM Hundreds of poor residents along South Rail and Manila Bay hold rally at HUDCC (http://laborpartyphilippines.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=138&Itemid=2)
Some 500 urban poor residents living along the South Rail in Laguna, Batangas and Cavite, and along the coastlines of Manila Bay held a rally at the Makati office of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and a dialogue with housing officials on their demand for decent housing and livelihood opportunities.
Romy Cabugnason, spokesperson of Alyansa ng Maralitang Pilipino (AMP), said that “Thousands of families will be displaced by demolitions along the Calabarzon areas of South Rail and Manila Bay to give way to rehabilitation of the railway and clean up of the bay. But the urban poor are not garbage that should be thrown away to give way to so-called development. There is no real progress unless there is social justice.”
The Calabarzon urban poor assembled at Magallanes in Makati around noon and then marched to the HUDCC office by 1:00 pm. They then held a dialogue at 2:00 pm with HUDCC officials regarding their demands.
The residents along the Manila Bay are asking for in-city relocation, alternative forms of fishing for livelihood, and financial assistance for relocation, livelihood and social services. While the demands of the urban poor along the South Rail line are the release of the funds meant for relocatees, sale to informal settlers of the Philippine National Railroad lands that will not be used in the rehabilitation, and representation in the inter-agency committee on relocation.
Members of Alyansa ng Mamamayan na Apektado ng Road 1 (AMAR-1), Samahang Mamamayan Naninirahan sa Riles ng Calabarzon (SMPRC) and Partido ng Manggagawa joined AMP in the march, rally and dialogue. The protesters came from the towns of Calamba, Los Baños and Bae in Laguna, Sto. Tomas and Tanauan in Batangas, and Bacoor, Kawit, Cavite City, Rosario and Tanza in Cavite.
Demolition of fishing communities along the Cavite coastline of Manila Bay was supposed to start yesterday as per the notices sent to residents promting the urban poor to hold a rally and dialogue with HUDCC officials. Preparation for eviction of residents along the South Rail starting from Calamba are also underway.
Cabugnason explained that “We are merely asking for the social cost of these development plans that should already be factored into the project cost. The urban poor demands amount to only a small portion of these multibillion projects.” The South Rail projects costs more than P 40 billion with an allotment around P 1.8 billion for relocation. The government meanwhile recently allocated P 1.6 billion for the Manila Bay clean up, of which P 250 million is for relocation of informal settlers on open waterways in Metro Manila. ###

^^Jampack full of passengers. With daily trips like this, the DMUs already reach its maximum load. Making the suspension to deteriorate faster than normal wear and tear. The PNR solution, double the train. Instead of the usual 3 car set DMU. Tomorrow, PNR will do a trial run of 6 car set DMU. By coupling 2 DMUs together. They will do the trial run on the first and last trip in the morning. If all goes well. They will apply it to all of its trip.

Just a question: how will two coupled DMUs fit given the relatively short length of the platforms? I don't think they'll only board passengers in the back and then all of us go up front; that type of loading would be very inefficient.
^^Sabi nung PNR official. Yung unahan bahagi muna ang titigil sa platform then isusunod nila yung last part.

Kalbongdad - agree ako sayo, nung nawala mga IS at luminis ang mga tren bumalik ang customer.... sabi nga if you provide good quality and price, the customers will come
Sky Harbor September 23rd, 2009, 03:32 AM ^^ The three-car DMU is actually as long as the five-car locomotive. The configuration of the DMU actually allows for more people to be packed inside the train than the locomotive does. However, to have a four-car DMU run on existing infrastructure requires extending platforms to MRT-2 or MRT-3 length, and although PNR has the ability to do so for many stations, it does not for others (Buendia comes to mind).

Sky Harbor September 23rd, 2009, 03:41 AM ^^ In Vito Cruz, the platforms are designed to fully accommodate locomotives. That's why when the DMU stops, there's some available platform space left.
The only way Buendia can accommodate a longer platform is if the Dela Rosa crossing is placed underground.

Na compare ko na yan nung magtabi sila sa tutuban the last time I went there.
