THE DUBAI GUYS September 5th, 2008, 10:25 PM Al-Rihab selects Alec to build 99-storey tower in Dubai
Published: 05 September 2008 15:20 GMT Author: Colin Foreman
The local Alec has been selected for the AED1.8bn ($490m) contract to build a 99-storey tower at Dubai International Financial Centre, the highest yet of a series of newtowers planned for the area.
The mixed-use tower will include offices, apartments, a hotel and retail space.
The final height has not been decided, but it is expected to be between 380 and 405 metres tall when completed, making it the tallest building at DIFC and one of the tallest in Dubai.
A 405-metre-tall tower would be the eighth tallest completed building in the world, although several other, far taller projects are under way, including the Burj Dubai.
The architect for the new tower is UK-based Broadway Malayan. The development manager is the local Roya International. The client is the local Al-Rihab.
Another 400-metre tower is planned for the DIFC area by the Dubai International Financial Centre Authority.
The Lighthouse tower has been designed as a low-carbon-emissions building.
Its energy consumption will be cut by up to 65 per cent and water consumption by up to 40 per cent using passive solar architecture such as awnings, low-energy and water use techniques, and recovery strategies for the energy and water used (MEED 27:4:08).
The UK's Atkins is the consultant and US-based Hill International is the project manager.
Construction work is already well advanced on another super high-rise project at DIFC.
The local/Australian Nasa Multiplex is working on the AED1bn construction contract for the 328-metre Index Tower. The local Union Properties is the developer.

Dubai Addiction September 6th, 2008, 03:31 PM If they just remove that huge helipad from the top, I think it looks a lot better without it

Still meh...I really think this one needs to be redesigned. That spiraling tower posted a few days back as the new DIFC supertall would have been great.
docc September 6th, 2008, 06:41 PM I meant, that one should replace this :D
Errr, i don't know why my post is above malec's; i posted it as a response to his comment.
malec September 6th, 2008, 06:41 PM ^^ That spiraling one has nothing to do with this tower, it's across the road from that one.
I think it looks quite good, except for the helipad on top of course.
By the way that website says this is 5 park avenue not 1, which is it? :dunno:
malec September 6th, 2008, 07:34 PM So is this right then?

malec September 6th, 2008, 07:40 PM Who the hell is Al Rihab by the way?
AltinD September 6th, 2008, 08:59 PM ^^ Should be a typo because the developer is Al Jaber Group, the parent company of ALEC (the contractor).
LeCom September 6th, 2008, 10:10 PM Bump this bad boy to 100 stories, why not.
docc September 6th, 2008, 10:38 PM The palace plot in front of The Index is HUGE. Is it going to be redeveloped as well?
SkyscraperCity man September 8th, 2008, 11:33 AM I think it really needs to be. I understand the man trying to hold on to the little palace but for the greater good... say goodbye.
malec September 8th, 2008, 11:46 AM You mean the one between the murooj buildings and the index?
SkyscraperCity man September 8th, 2008, 12:14 PM yup.

Guest89 September 8th, 2008, 03:05 PM Those small buildings next to Islamic Towers should go, they are ugly and too small compared to the buildings around them. Instead, build 5 supertalls. ;)
