South Africa almost has NO international retailers. As the USA is to Americas in retail (many stores in USA have taken hold in the Americas retail market), so most big-box retail is truly South African here with us being the dominant players in the African market, and to a small degree Australia and Middle-East. We have stores representing every equivalent of the retail niches.

American: South African
Home Depot: Builders' Warehouse
Lowe's: Penny Pincher's
Dillards: Stuttafords
Publix: Pick 'n Pay
JC Penny: Edgars
--No American equivalent-- :Woolworths (department store, clothes, café, gourmet food, high-end-housewares; like Marks & Spencer UK)
Banana Republic: Markham/Fochini
Aeropostale: Identity
Barnes & Noble: Exclusive Books
Urban Outfitters: Urban Degree/Hilton Weiner:
Abercrombie & Fitch: Aca Joe/Vertigo
Gap: Truworths/Daniel Hector
Albertsons: Shoprite/Checkers
Ikea (coming to SA I think): Coricraft/Weylandts
Bed Bath & Beyond: @Home/Mr. Price Home
Old Navy: Mr. Price
Starbucks: Vida e Caffe

There are tons more
