MDguy September 7th, 2008, 04:15 AM 9.5/10 VERY daring and bold design. The only reason its not a 10 is because im not a fan of a few of the lines in the facade that are crooked. But other than that, its incredible!

mckfmn October 4th, 2008, 12:41 PM 9.5/10 VERY daring and bold design. The only reason its not a 10 is because im not a fan of a few of the lines in the facade that are crooked. But other than that, its incredible!
those crooked lines were ment to follow the irregular supporting structure behind them. i think they are only half-successful, cause during the design a need for more structure occured, so the lines doesn't follow all of the beams. but they still reflect tensions inside the structure. the net is denser in 'dangerous' places of the building.
anyway I like the building for its funny ideology suggested in one of architect's book: it is the tallest skyscraper ever - as a loop it has infinite height. 10/10

mibome August 11th, 2010, 06:08 PM For me this is the Number One Building worldwide, of course I give it 10 points. In fact I followed the building process whenever I went to Beijing. Here are some photos in chronological order. I wish I could finally see this building inhabitated and operational, maybe even go inside....

One question that I could not find an answer to is how they could actually calculate and build the angles and height of both towers that they connect precisely to the millimetre, considering the additional inclination due to its own weight and due to tolerances in the material. Also wind and temperature add another portion to an incalculable tolerance of both towers.
Despite all the incalculable parameters how could they build both towers with such accuracy that they could actually connect with zero millimetre tolerance?
I know they connected both towers in the early morning to minimize the temperature effect. But what is with the bending and shaking effect due to the massive off-centre weight and variations in the rigidity of the material and joints?
Also: were the movements of both towers due to wind, weight, and temperature visible to the naked eye when they connected both towers? What were the frequency and the amplitude of these movements? Even if it was just a small amplitude, the force behind it must have been very strong, so how could they connect them despite the tower’s oscillations and how did they quickly enforce that first joint to resist the huge oscillation forces of wind, weight, and temperature, during that small time window?
Is there anybody who can point me to references or links that give technical detail answers?
Why is, by the way, the main thread closed? CCTV is still not open because the adjacent TVCC is still not repaired. Therefore, posts for the main CCTV thread should still be coming in, in my opinion.
