Infoman September 7th, 2008, 01:29 AM This thread is dedicated to Charleston, SC and it's surronding cities. Ill start off. http://www.realtown.com/CharlestonSC/blog/charleston-sc-real-estate/magnolia-development-charleston-sc, This is a development named Magnolia. I do not know if it's still on or not but it look's nice. It will include 700,000 sq ft of retail, 500 hotel room's, 450,000 sq ft of office, and 6,000 residental unit's. Also you can click here to look at Magnolia, and Midtown which are Charleston's two big projects, and let me tell you Midtown has good density. Let's please try to stay on development's on this thread. StevenW September 9th, 2008, 12:58 AM ^^ Sounds good. Love to see other specific renderings and plans. Infoman September 9th, 2008, 01:40 AM http://www.charleston.net/news/2008/sep/08/biomedweb53469/ Work to start on MUSC'S bioengineering building, it will be 4 level's, and will be 100,000 sq ft. Infoman September 9th, 2008, 01:43 AM http://www.charleston.net/news/2008/sep/08/contractors_hired_neck_project53364/ 2 contractors hired for Neck project. What a big coensidence this something on Midtown and I just though the project was off. :bash:     Infoman September 9th, 2008, 01:47 AM Meanwhile, Republic Contracting Corp. of Columbia will start building a 1,400-foot bridge over marshland that will connect the proposed community's southern end with entrances to U.S. Interstate 26. Tsoman September 9th, 2008, 01:54 AM The Magnolia project sounds really attractive. I hope some more urban refill occurs in the area around the crosstown, too. Infoman September 9th, 2008, 02:01 AM There will be a new bridge included which really caught my attetion. ohioaninsc September 11th, 2008, 03:16 AM Newbie here, I live up in Rock Hill, SC, but have family in Mt Pleasant, just across the harbor/Cooper River from Charleston and I visit it often. Here are some of the projects going on in the Holy City and surrounding area... Noisette: N Charleston @ the Old Charleston Naval Base. http://www.noisettesc.com/ http://www.navyyardsc.com/ http://www.noisettesc.com/images/photo_over_rivercenter.jpg http://www.noisettesc.com/images/photo_over_rivercenter2.jpg http://content.ll-0.com/mitcre/mitcre_e_a000745990.JPG?i=021407171132 This is development has had some financial issues, and issues w/ the city of N Charleston, but they are still pladding along w/ it. ohioaninsc September 11th, 2008, 03:27 AM Here's a link to the full conceptual plan w/a lot of specific details for Magnolia. I can't copy the pics off it, b/c it's a PDF File. If I can eventually move down to Charleston, like I hope to, I'd love to live in this area once it's completed. http://www.charlestoncity.info/shared/docs/0/magnolia%20concept%20plan_approved%2006-20-2007.pdf ohioaninsc September 11th, 2008, 03:34 AM Another new development that has been recently announced is the Ginn Group's Promenade. It is located along Town Creek, just north of the Ravenel Bridge over an old dump site. http://www.charleston.net/news/2008/jul/29/plans_ginn_co_s_promenade_take_shape49033/ http://media.charleston.net/img/photos/2008/07/28/gx29promenadephoto.jpg This is in the beginning planning stages. In fact, I think they have said that the proposed amphitheater will be on the bridge side now. I think that will actually be cooler b/c if you go to a concert, and have the bridge behind the stage, that will look cool. There is too much surface parking in this rendering for my like, so hopefully they will change that, and put in a parking deck, and either add more density, or add more park space. ohioaninsc September 11th, 2008, 04:00 AM Here are some more smaller developments throughout the Charleston area: The Green at Meeting: http://www.charleston.net/news/2008/jul/24/downtown_condo_plan_unveiled48509/ http://media.charleston.net/img/photos/2008/07/24/green.jpg Ansonhouse Condos: http://www.ansonhouse.com/ This is located on the corner of Laurens & Concorde. http://mediaservices1.com/sherman/LG_Uploaded/323-ansonhouse-condos.jpg Carolina First Center: The new arena for the College of Charleston http://www.cofcsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=14800&KEY=&ATCLID=876737 http://www.cofc.edu/about/images/full_carolinafirst.jpg George Str apt complex at C of C http://www.cofc.edu/about/images/full_gstcomplex.jpg I'll get a few more of the project going on up later. I'm a big fan of Charleston. I hope to move there someday, b/c I like it even better than Charlotte, though CLT is exploding w/ growth. I'd be happy in either place, but I really like the ocean. Infoman September 12th, 2008, 04:06 AM I like Charlotte and Charleston but Charleston is more special to me than Charlotte. desertpunk June 27th, 2011, 06:00 AM Hellooooooo Charleston! In Development New Charleston Cruise Terminal http://wciv.images.worldnow.com/images/14216349_BG1.jpg New cruise terminal expected to deliver $43 million impact Posted: Mar 09, 2011 7:28 AM MST Updated: Mar 09, 2011 CHARLESTON, S.C. - A new cruise terminal is creating millions in cash for the Lowcountry. The construction alone of the cruise terminal will bring in $43 million of economic impact, and with that, more than 330 jobs. In just weeks design work will begin to replace the old cruise terminal. The Charleston Chamber of Commerce says it's a $25 million project, to build it 336 jobs will be created. Those workers will be the keys to the economic engine. "When they go out and buy the goods and services they need everyday to live, whether it's groceries, eating out in restaurants, wherever they're spending money, those are the businesses that are going to see the impact," says the chamber's Mary Graham. Graham says the Charleston area will feel a jolt to the tune of $43 million during the 12-month construction phase. The work will transform the area on the northern end of the port's union pier, to keep the $37 million cruise industry going strong. "We have about 90 that will be calling on our area over the next 12 months," says Graham. Local businesses have started to depend on the cruises. They rely on turning those passengers into customers. "We do get a lot of business from the cruises," says Laurie Ann Patrick at Tabbuli Grill. Tabbuli Grill is in a prime spot, one of the first choices for folks getting off a cruise ship. "They feed right into Market Street right here and even if it is a block that way, Market is where everyone wants to be in Charleston, and they got to pass us to get there," Patrick says. The new cruise terminal is sure to keep that trend churning. It's scheduled to be ready in late 2012. Like the current terminal the new one will handle one cruise at a time. Of the 336 new jobs, 178 of them will be directly tied to the terminal's construction. http://www.abcnews4.com/story/14216349/impact-of-charleston-cruise-industry-discussed?redirected=true Proposed developments Magnolia http://activerain.com/image_store/uploads/5/6/4/6/3/ar118265290236465.jpg http://www.realtownblogs.com/uploads/CharlestonSC_magnolia_development_charleston_sc(1).jpg Here's a small summary of Magnolia which has been on hold due to the bad economy: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBYQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fcharleston.thedigitel.com%2Fbusiness%2Fmassive-charleston-magnolia-development-stalls-plu-30057-0417&ei=bPwHTuCeA5LmsQPXwaW3DQ&usg=AFQjCNHB5mFV0kNl_5bf-9uesXPgknqwTg&sig2=0YFXSh3NNwDz2FDJ545Vgg Filed Apr 17, 2011 at 8:33 am Massive Charleston Magnolia development stalls, plus a trip down memory lane It's really been quite remarkable just how long cleanup and improvement of the 214 acres of polluted former industrial land on Charleston's Neck has continued in hopes of building the massive "mini-city" Magnolia Development despite the collapse of the market. Plug away since 2007 it did, cleaning up nasty chemicals in the ground, making nice with the neighbors, and securing $9.8 million to build a now-bridge-to-nowhere. Not all hope is lost for the millions of square feet of new space and 4,400 homes that was seen as a game changer for Charleston's urban style. The Post and Courier has a nice rundown on the situation and its candle of hope; read it here. But this seems to be a good time to take a trip down memory lane of massive Charleston developments that have been pitched in recent years but have yet to materialize: - The 1,500-unit Promenade to sit on the lower east side of the neck atop an old landfill near the Cooper River Bridge; - The $155 million "Horizon Redevelopment Project" near the downtown ballpark backed by Medical University of South Carolina and South Carolina Research Authority; - The 43-acre urban living project that was due to come in just north of Park Circle's Old Village; - The little-engine-that-could Noisette project in North Charleston; - And the massive 1,800-acre Ingleside Planatation development for North Charleston is still floating out there somewhere. Still, there is hope: The downtown city-backed Concord Park project is coming back to life, the Federal Building project seems alive again, and we've been hearing good things about the long-dreamt Midtown project for Upper King Street. Which dreams are yet to be, we will see. StevenW June 28th, 2011, 11:44 PM cool. thanks for the updates. b4z August 20th, 2011, 04:18 AM actually every single project that was proposed in this thread in '08-09 are on hold or dead. The condo market is almost dead. The only real estate market that has any real life is Mt. Pleasant. Developers are looking to assemble parcels for APARTMENTS. There are 0 condo projects in the planning stages. The rental market is the strongest I've seen. |
