View Full Version : ABU DHABI | Central Market | 381m | 1251ft | 88 fl | T/O
cleveraz September 8th, 2008, 01:26 AM I have searched this forum and I couldn’t believe how this was missed…About the project -- The new central market built on the same location where the old souk ( market ) was. Here are some renders from AL DAR.
Central Market
A turn key project for both ALDAR Properties and Abu Dhabi, the Central Market redevelopment occupies 5.0 hectares of prime city space, and will comprise luxury apartments, international grade A office space, restaurants, world class hotels, branded retail outlets and a traditional Arabian souq. Upon completion, Central Market will be a true city centre destination for the Capital of the UAE.

Yeah! In Abu Dhabi, Things take a bit longer than Dubai to happen....
johnvill September 13th, 2008, 06:16 AM here in philippines the tallest man made structure is crown regency hotel and towers at Cebu Philippines its a 40 story tower .. and as i have seen the photos here it might look like very small compare what are presented here .. these are giant towers ... i hope someday we will have these towers someday here in philippines ..
dachacon January 4th, 2009, 08:02 AM any up dates??
JyeJye January 4th, 2009, 08:26 AM Wow awesome~What a great building!!!
saeed January 4th, 2009, 11:21 AM I think when world financial crisis take effect, only few cities can stand powerful with almost no effect.....Welcome to ABU DHABI !!!!.
DennisS January 4th, 2009, 11:25 AM ^^ Too bad almost everything in Abu Dhabi is 'On Hold'.... ;)
ausie January 4th, 2009, 11:28 AM awesome but really weird cladding
Dequal January 4th, 2009, 11:51 AM Don't like it. It looks cheap. Especially in between the towers.
radiant_city January 5th, 2009, 04:19 AM The interiors look stunning, and the actual towers themselves look quite distinctive (and I like the cladding too)-- but setting them atop those building-block things at street level makes them look like an afterthought-- a cranial implant cheaply grafted onto a body unprepared to host it. I kind of wish the base looked more like the towers above them.
Other than that though, can't see much else wrong with it. A shame these things are on hold though..
Imperfect Ending January 5th, 2009, 12:15 PM wow... i think...

Odoyoz January 8th, 2009, 06:25 AM Abu dhabi is a very crowded city. Some times it feels like walking in Hong Kong or Tokyo

Adam2707 June 2nd, 2009, 09:07 PM I'm surprised we don't find any more updates on this to be honest. Neary a 400m tower in any other country and it would be the talk of the city.

Blue Flame August 3rd, 2009, 03:07 PM Well, there may not be any neighbors in the exact vicinity, but of course Abu Dhabi has the Sky Tower, the Ethiad towers complex, and The Landmark.
AltinD August 3rd, 2009, 05:03 PM The Landmark is not that far actually.

No MEP, VT or anything else!
The developer put it on go slow as they needed to push all the money towards the F1 circuit.
I hear the the PM/ cost consultant is in trouble as well and maybe "removed".
When does the Souk open? It was meant to be Aug 08! Still no signs of it....:bash:

ZZ-II January 17th, 2010, 01:59 AM nice, the core of the 3rd tower is starting also now :)
btw...are these number still up-to-date?
1. Tower: 382m
2. Tower: 278m
3. Tower: 255m
cmjohns6 January 17th, 2010, 01:36 PM Thats right ZZ-11
382m 88fl The Domain (tower 1)
278m ?fl Trust Tower (tower 2)
255m 58fl Central Market Hotel (tower 3)
DennisS January 17th, 2010, 02:09 PM Great, I hope it's going to look really shiny!
Pantsoff January 20th, 2010, 09:46 AM Hotel has been stopped, the operator walked away as it was being built to slowly by the developer (but not the contractor)!
Pantsoff January 20th, 2010, 09:50 AM Good to see the bridge link going in on Khalifa street. I was told it was stopped due to the poor performance by the Souk contractor Mushriff (spelling?) which in turn held up ACC who are doing the towers and emporium through the middle.
There was an annoucement saying the souk will be open in March, a friend drove past today and said, "if they only meant the ground floor for soft opening not a chance!"
kitayabi January 20th, 2010, 08:46 PM this building deserves more attention, especially considering its Abu dhabi's first super tall

Adam2707 January 20th, 2010, 09:23 PM this building deserves more attention, especially considering its Abu dhabi's first super tall
More likely to be its fourth.
Sky tower (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=516916), eternally complete. 310m.
Eithad Tower 2 (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=516893), almost topped out. 305m.
The Landmark (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=381077), should be done before this. 324m.
I do agree that it need more attention though, simply because of its fantastic design. A shame we dont get more updates on this one...
hato January 20th, 2010, 09:41 PM Does anybody now if the green roofs (not on the skycrapers) are going to be made or are they only on renders? they look fantastic...

Yea Dubai's done a good job of over shadowing Abu Dhabi
AHundredStories January 22nd, 2010, 08:49 PM I'm not a fan of this design. It looks kind of sci-fi evil empire to me.
zander0501 January 24th, 2010, 08:16 PM Hey Abu Dhabi, call them: "Khalifa Tower 2,3 and 4!" The first in Dubai and the 2nd 3rd and 4th in Abu Dhabi.....
What a wonderful futuristic Tower Trio - need more Popularity.

MOHMOH March 23rd, 2010, 04:47 PM Abu Dhabi Central Market's first phase to open in Q3
Emirates Business 24/7
23 March 2010
The first phase of the Abu Dhabi Central Market project is 95 per cent complete and the market will open in the third quarter of 2010, said Reham Abdulla, Senior Leasing Manager, Central Market Project, Aldar Properties, while speaking to Emirates Business yesterday.
Aldar Properties said at a press conference that it has begun leasing shops inside the Emporium, which forms part of the second phase of the Central Market - a high-end, fully integrated, mixed-use redevelopment in the original commercial district in the heart of downtown Abu Dhabi. The anchor store at the Emporium will be House of Fraser, the chain's first store in the region, it said.
The project's first phase covers the traditional Arabian Souk, built over an area of 14,500 sq m. It will have 300 shops with areas ranging between 40 sq m and 50 sq m. Nearly 50 per cent of the shops have been leased to investors from the UAE and elsewhere, said Abdulla.
The second phase features the Emporium and a 59-storey office tower. About 60 per cent of this phase has been completed and it will be opened next year, she added.
The Emporium covers an area of 62,000 sq m, has 170 shops with areas of 80 sq m, 100 sq m, 2,000 sq m and 10,000 sq m. Billed as Abu Dhabi's high-fashion destination, the Emporium will house 150 chic boutiques offering a blend of local and international brands, and food and beverage outlets spread over eight levels of arcades.
The third phase is due for opening in 2012. This includes the 88-storey Domain residential tower - the tallest tower in Abu Dhabi city - of which 78 storeys have been built. Two 59-storey and 16-storey hotels also form part of the complex.
Abdulla said that Aldar has signed a 10-year renewable contract with Retail Arabia International to set up House of Fraser.
MOHMOH March 23rd, 2010, 04:48 PM House of Fraser signs 10-year lease for Abu Dhabi store
Aldar Properties and Retail Arabia International announced on Monday they had signed a 10-year lease agreement that will see the development of the region’s first House of Fraser store at Central Market in Abu Dhabi.
House of Fraser will be the anchor store for Emporium, a fashion retail centre that will feature 150 chic boutiques as well as food and beverage outlets over eight floors, the companies said in a joint statement.
In addition to Emporium, Central Market will be home to a traditional Arabian Souk featuring three ultra-modern towers providing apartments, office space, and hotel accommodation.
Nabil Daud, managing director and CEO, Retail Arabia International, said: “The signing of House of Fraser for the Middle East marked a very important step for Retail Arabia International.
"It is with great excitement that we look to launching this iconic brand in Abu Dhabi as the anchor to the Emporium, Central Market."
"We believe that this mall will become a major shopping destination in Abu Dhabi," he added without giving details of when the mall would open.
Fred Douglas, director of leasing, Aldar Properties, added: “We are delighted to welcome House of Fraser to Emporium at Central Market, our high fashion destination. Aldar is committed to bringing world class retailers and unique concepts to our developments, and is looking to form strategic relationships with groups such as Retail Arabia International to achieve this.”
Last month, House of Fraser signed a franchise agreement with the aim of expanding into the Middle East market.
As well as Abu Dhabi, the agreement could see House of Fraser open stores in Cairo, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dhahran, Muscat and Doha.

droneriot July 24th, 2010, 04:46 PM I don't see why it is necessary to dig out that old chestnut of doing the apples-and-oranges comparison between Abu Dhabi and Dubai whenever someone pays a compliment to one of Abu Dhabi's great projects.
jcmaldonado13 July 24th, 2010, 08:56 PM Abu Dhabi is so much greener compared to Dubai!
AltinD July 24th, 2010, 09:30 PM ^^ That's totally true.
The passed away Abu Dhabi ruler was very keen on greenery and forestation. Millions of trees have been planted in Abu Dhabi (out of the city), farms were created and his gardens were regular winners on (UK) Queen's gardens competitions.
However Dubai has also allot of greenery for a desert city, much more then you would ever imagine, however most of the construction is happening in new areas and also allot of landscaping has been destroyed during the infrastructure work like the Metro etc, but it will be restored.

Abu Dhabi looks at economy and profitability. Dubai builds everything as big and as high as it's possible no matter how expensive it can be. They have a different politics and that's why Abu Dhabi gave them big loans (when Dubai had financial problems).

Blizzy June 28th, 2011, 06:47 PM I just watched a documentary on Discovery about this complex, and they were pretty full of crap, saying that this will be the tallest residential tower in the world. I guess checking stuff out in a 40km radius was too much for them.

I saw just the same documentary.... but don't blame them, it was released years ago.

I really doubt that. Judging from the progress it was shot about march-may last year (residential tower was at floor 80 with cladding already done on some floors, the Office tower was almost topped out - with two months more work on the roof and the souk was pretty much complete - four months from being ready I believe). So Princess Tower and 23 Marina were well under construction then - even mentioning those two would suffice. I don't know, maybe the site visit was like "you can come shoot, but you have to say Dubai sucks and is an indebted scrap of desert with all projects stalled". :)

The following article from July 6th, 2011 on worldpropertychannel.com (http://www.worldpropertychannel.com/international-markets/commercial-real-estate/trust-tower-abu-dhabi-aldar-properties-new-office-buildings-in-uae-commercial-office-space-for-lease-in-abu-dhabi-british-architect-lord-norman-foster-rami-nasser-4502.php) about Trust Tower sounds more optimistic:
"Abu Dhabi's Trust Tower Starts Office Pre-Leasing Program Ahead of 2012 Completion
Abu Dhabi-based Aldar properties announced this week that Trust Tower, the latest of its commercial office developments, is now available for pre-lease.
The building will be available for tenants to start their fit-out on a phased basis from November 2011 prior to officially opening in mid-2012.
Located in the heart of Abu Dhabi city, Trust Tower provides an ideal location for corporate tenants wishing to benefit from premises that blend commercial
connectivity with the premium housing and a wide range of shops and facilities that will be on offer at Central Market in downtown Abu Dhabi.
The building offers 59-levels, 72,000m2 of flexible office space at the heart of Abu Dhabi.
Its design allows tenants to occupy space at a density of 1:10, up to 40% more efficient than the average density for other grade A offices in Abu Dhabi,
meeting the needs of tenants looking to maximize floor space in the current market.
Designed by leading British architect Lord Norman Foster, the building includes a number of distinctive features that fit the needs of demanding
international corporations. These include an 'intelligent' façade that controls light levels into the building for cooling purposes; a state-of-the-art
vertical transportation system with three banks of double-deck lifts providing high-speed access for large numbers of occupants to all levels of the building;
and flexibility in the ceiling design that enables tenants to efficiently customize their office space.
As one of the few buildings in Abu Dhabi that is designed to internationally accepted, Grade A standards, which enables incoming tenants to minimize
both expenditure and time during their fit-out, Trust Tower once again demonstrates Aldar's credentials as a developer and commercial landlord of premium quality,
practical office space.
"Trust Tower has been designed with efficiency and flexibility in mind to meet the needs of today's enterprise and demonstrates once again Aldar's track record
of developing the highest quality commercial buildings in Abu Dhabi," said Rami Nasser, Director of Sales and Commercial leasing at Aldar Properties."
And here are two great pics linked from the article above on www.worldpropertychannel.com.
The second one with the view from the Residential Tower down to Trust Tower is breathtaking!

SAS International, the UK based metal ceilings manufacturer, has supplied a bespoke metal ceiling to the Trust Tower in Abu Dhabi.
Currently being installed in the building, the radial SAS System 330 ceiling system was specified by leading architects Foster + Partners, with more than 300 different trapezoidal panels designed for the project.
In addition, specially made panels will be installed around columns and the building exterior to allow a continuous shadow-gap, avoiding on-site wastage.
