Park Tower
Chicago, USA

HEIGHT: 257m/844 feet
FLOORS: 67 floors
COMPLETION: 2000
ARCHITECT: Lucien Lagrange & Associates/ Harwood K Smith & Partners

Designed to assume a prominent place on Chicago's Magnificent Mile, this elegant 67-story tower intelligently integrates a preeminent luxury hotel with high-end condominium residences. The lower 18 floors of the structure are occupied by a sophisticated new Park Hyatt Hotel, the chain's new corporate flagship. The remaining floors are devoted to luxury condominium residences, including eight penthouses. This mixed-use project was developed by Hyatt Development Corporation and LR Development.

Yikes, very thin. It's roof is vg, and it's shape is not bad, just needs a few more curves.

I LOVE the height and slim profile but they lost me towards the top floors. A nicely woven residential all the way up until you hit the cheap looking roof. 7/10

I gave it a seven. That is a copper roof right? If it is, the building could look it's best after some weather has turned it's crown green.

7 - It's so slim that it takes to the sky well. and its curves, not to mention that bay window and the indentations, make it more interesting than a plain box, but the lower part of the facade is kind of tacky, and the facade as a whole could use a little something more, though I can't decide what that would be. I'm not sure about that roof...

very tall & slim...looks like a pencil!!...this one soars into the sky and actually looks taller than it is....some have called it cheap but I bet it's not cheap to live there!!...not bad for a residential tower...8/10

WOW! I've got to say...this place looks supertall! It is sooo thin it makes it look as if it is soaring into the sky. I hope a plane doesn't run into this one, i'd topple right over.
I love the roof....I don't dislike the spires, nor do I like them. Is that possibie? After looking at the facade, it appears that it was a last minute budget type of thing....they could have done it MUCH nicer.

They did well with what they had though. For height, and slimness ;). this gets a 7!

this really is what skyscrapers are all about! its slenderness, its sleek lines, its rooftop termination. brilliant! 10/10
if you love skyscrapers (and thats why were all here), you would love this one. its screams>> SKYSCRAPER!!!
it compliments the historic water tower perfectly and at nearly 260m tall, it would of been one of the tallest apartment towers in the world if the lower floors werent put aside for hotel use.
glorious!!!

Great looking building. If the roof is made out of copper, then it will look much better when some time and weather turn it green like the Statue of Liberty. I love its tall, slim look.

Justadude, you said it right, Old School. I feel most buildings that try to look old fail miserably, but this one succeeds. I love the buttress near the bottom, and the facade, while plain, is quite pleasing. The top is great. This building tried to do a lot of very difficult things and pulled them off, this is a great skyscraper. Feels tall, and the balconies are nice without overwhelming the building (see Bayioke in Bangkok for one that failed). Excellent building.

Very impressive and soaring in person. It has a classic design that is well-suited to the area. If I was going to live in Chicago, this is where it'd be. Another great addition to the Chicago skyline. Shoot, it's taller than the tallest bldgs in most cities and the views are amazing.

In person its height has the ability to sway your judgement of it (it person its a 9-9.5) but looking at the actual elements of design in it I have to reduce points off. The thing that gets me the most is the fact it appears as though its trying to be a high rise from another decade with the ornamental topping. However the plus is how slender it is and seems to poke into the clouds during summer days, great contrast to those goliath bases they are building off of (Trump Tower for example)

It's amazing this was completed in 2000. It looks really art deco and complements Michigan Ave.'s style and history quite well. But aside from having some older-style touches, it's kinda bland. If the designers were after a retro theme, they accomplished it maybe a little too well because it's a "haven't I seen this building before?" scenario that's going on in my head. The height is impressive at least. Suits Chicago and Michigan Ave., just makes me *yawn*

I don't understand why so many are giving this building a low score just because it looks 'old'. I think a lot of people on here have already pointed out why this building is so successful. It looks like it's been standing there for decades despite the fact it is one of the newest additions to the city skyline. That was precisely the goal of this project from the beginning and it can be rather difficult to pull that off. Obviously, it worked judging from the comments on here.

And the facade and street presence of this building is anything but cheap. In fact, if anything it makes most glassy structures look delicate and lightweight by comparison. Despite the slim profile, from street level it still maintains a strong presence. I think the architects did an excellent job of incorporating a high profile art deco style skyscraper into this end of Michigan Ave. More modern designs had recently dominated despite the fact that some of the oldest structures (water tower) exist here. It's a nice connection between different eras.

It looks alot taller than it is due to it's slim profile. The roof is a nice feature but the rest is abit bland. 5/10

Completed in 2000? I was sure it's a 50 years old building.
It would receive an 8 from me if it was an old skyscraper, but since it is new 6 seems enough. It's just a shame to build a new skyscraper without using modern-looking materials.
