this buddhist temple houses a 33 meter long reclining Buddha droped in agold-leaved saffron robe. i think it is the world 3th longest Buddha.:)

Anyone has pictures of one of the world's largest Sleeping Buddha in Tumpat, Kelantan?

Tumpat is quite an important place for Buddhism in Malaysia. You can find so many Buddhist temples including the sleeping buddha.

I got old photos of my trip there when I was small but they're all in my hometown lah.

I was there back in 1997 and it is the 2nd largest in the world........I dunno lah....now 3rd meh?

I took some pictures but scanner rosak.......so no pictures to show - furthermore dunno put where already.

There is also a reclining Buddha nearby - even larger than the one in Penang! :eek: .....dare I say.....could even be bigger if not nearly the same size as the one at Wat Po, Bangkok ;)

I used to have these four monkey's dolls. One of it cover it's eyes, second doll cover it's ears, third doll cover it's mouth and the last one i have forgotten cover which part. i was told by my cousin that it's mean we should not swear or gossiping, we should not listen to rumour or easily influenced by others, we should not watch inappropriate action (perhaps pornography?)

I love those traditional Buddhist temples with courtyards, twin tower pagodas (drum and bell pagoda), entrance arch, numerous halls, side entrances.

yap kongsi is not like other kongsi where there are houses surrounding it. those houses beside it is just any normal houses by the road (armenian street)....... i think

The temples in other parts of China have no exact blueprint to go by to restore how they were pre-Cultural Revolution and the modern era.

it was chopped off. (i don't really know the story though but it has something to do with it's height which is taller than the state mosque)

Yes it was! No joke! :rant:

It is true that the original Kuan Yin statue is taller than the State Mosque's minaret. So they asked Kek Lok Si to make it lowert which they did......they lessen the height by imitting the foot (can't really see cause she's in a high position and she's wearing a flowing dress. :rant:

'Legend' has it that the collapsed of the Ferry Terminal at Butterworth the same year is due to this factor. And it happened on Kuan Yin's birthday. :(

But since she is the Goddess of Mercy I believe she did not do it. But many think that is a bad omen and the coincidence if the events make the entire episode kinda spooky. :)

I've been to Tumpat Kelantan and I could tell ya that the so-called 'hardcore' Islamic PAS didn't even do this to the World's second largest (after HK's) Buddha statue. It towers higher than any mosque one would find there. Guess they aren't so insecure afterall ;) And that surprises me a lot! :eek:

I wonder why they are so petty about the height of this and that.

they are different "gods", but are in the same religion of Mahayana Buddhism.

Guan Yin is a boddissatva (sp) that has achieved enlightenment, but decided to remain on earth to help those in need.
