Mega City in SC4.
population:
City: about 1,850,000
Region: 2,919,633

CURRENT STATS:
MEga City - about 2.3 million
Neo MEga City - 1.1 million
Kilo City - about 800,000

region: 11,300,000

medium-sized satellites with large populations:
- 718,000
- 630,000
- 610,000
- 430,000

old info:

started: June or July 2003
cheats: weaknesspays a few dozen times here and there during budget crises. before Rush Hour, I'd have huge population spikes, 100,000 people would move in in a month, and then it'd return to normal within two years. expenses would go way over income when this happened.

Currently there's a budget shortfall thanks to the effort to keep schools no more than 60% occupied. There's also redevelopment of previously industrial areas, especially the dirtier industries, and a smaller rezoning program for larger towers.

Neo Powerpack is also about to soon be redeveloped into a residential commerical area, with the power plants being moved farther out.

here's some various pics, which are slightly out of date (there's been more supertalls and large park projects since these were taken:)

Its good to see that you have a very large population. The problem lies in that you admit to using cheats. I have obtained a city of 950,000 people with no cheats and using village and suburban area tactics. If I used the grid systm, I coudl probably get 2,000,000+ - but originality and hard work is what I do :D it pays off eventually :P I aint bothered with Rush Hour cause ive been busy with the nice Fresher girls down here in Portsmouth :D I doubt I will ever play SC4 again :D

it's not like the cheats were an integral part of the city, i consider them more of "government assistance" than cheats. and they were only used when the game's bugs would hit me.
crazy limey.

terrain's a work in progress.

update: the financial loss is over thanks to cutting spending to some of the large high schools. the brownfields of commercial and residential zones seen in those pics have also developed, with dirty industry now nearly gone. right now i'm making more money to build more subways and improve roads. then i'll lower taxes and watch some more boom.

I suppose so - still good work though.............but nothing compared to my mother of a 6,750,000+ region, one city of 1.6million, once city totally made of 2,000,000+ commercial jobs and at least 3 cities of 500,000+ industrial jobs - no cheats, no hacks, no bad stuff except pure skill at macro and micro economics :)

Not to mention a terrain that is not flat (unlike this region sadly), with valleys, hills, mountains, lakes, rivers and islands that seperate great land masses, cut off isolated villages high above the cities. That is artistic :)

blahblahblah...not like it was a big cheat.

and it's a coastal plain under the process or terraforming. this is SIMCITY, not SIM LANDSCAPING last time i checked.

and not quite as big a cheat as altering the tile size of all the cities in the region.

nope totally wrong - using larger regions enable greater control over terraforming. No coastal plain is 95% totally flat, so dont try to use geography to back up ure ideas, because I see no water mass to indicate such a geographical feature. Just admit it - its easy to build on a flat area AND WITH CHEATS. It is an art and skill to terraform your region to a city style and to then create a city on a terrain which costs more to allow for building areas. It also provides me with inspiration for mountain villages, cut off from the rest of the city and region bar a slow and windy road going down through parks and forests. So dont give me your unskilled, non-labourous shit

No you are wrong - simcity is meant to be a simulation where you have to try and overcome the many obstacles that you or the game put before you. Thus it proves if you are seriously skilled, if you can defeat the terrain you make. I cant really see how you can re-terraform your city, when its all built up - doesn't really make much sense. So cities are all built on flat terrains..........deary deary deary me.

not the city terrain, the region terrain.
yeah, overcome obstacles, not spend time crafting them like a landscape painter.

besides, this is only once region of two which I've played; the game hasn't even been out a year. seeing how there's about 3 years between simcity games, at least, i've got plenty of time to play with challenging terrain.

no, not all cities are built on flat land. I've lived in two (one of which I'm currently in) that have plenty of mountains, hills and valleys.

living in this environment for about 20 years, I don't want to play it, at least early on.

Its sarcasm - referring to your perfectly flat cities. You have done well though to get a high population, even though you cheated on a few of the hurdles on the race to get the biggest city :)

Cheating in your game is not bad. I have cheated in many of my cities but they were my first ones and were crappy cities overall so I just demolished them. :)

Sometimes a city gets in a crunch and you do not want to wait for it to come back up and you want some money to screw around with. So, you cheat. It is simple.

LSyd
December 25th, 2003, 08:16 PM
i think of low-grade cheating as "federal aid," yes, for when a city gets in a crunch.

bad cheating is using the money hack or whatever, that's just not fun, nor realistic.

the air, to land elsewhere. :D or it's recycled, and what's left goes to landfills that are in sections along the borders, preferrably with Sim Nation, in the industrial/power/dirty parts of the cities.
