Greek consortium wins €650m power plant project in Syria
10 September 2008 - Greek engineering company Metka SA said its consortium with Ansaldo STS has won a €650m ($918m) contract to build a 700 MW gas fired power plant in Syria.
Thomson Financial reported that the project involves the study, supply, construction and commissioning of a natural gas fired electricity plant, which will have to be completed within 36 months from the signing of the contract.
Metka, a unit of Mytilineos Holding SA, said this is the largest contract it has ever won and boosts its backlog to €1.3bn. Ansaldo is a unit of Italian giant Finmeccanica SpA.
