I've talked to the agent of Palexpress in Calbayog (he is the agent for both Calbayog and Catarman, btw and a good friend of mine), kulang sila ng aircraft and most of the Q400 are based in Cebu. And lately yata isa sa Q400 is under repair.

Ah ganun ba? sana magdagdag sila ng aircraft to compete Cebu Pacific and Zest Air... parang humihina kasi sila ngayon dahil nabawasan ang sumasakay sa kanila at lumipat sa ka-compete na airlines na mas mura.hehe..... And I like if there's a competition, kasi nagmumura ang mga tickets and the service ay gumaganda.

I'd rather chose to go to Calbayog than Pambujan kung ganun. and in that case mahahati ang passenger load ng Catarman at dadami sa Calbayog.

What do you mean by maraming tao sa Catarman airport?

Pagasa warns E Visayas, Bicol to brace for storm Feria (http://www.pna.gov.ph/index.php?idn=0&nid=1&rid=213261)

MANILA, June 23 (PNA) -- The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) urged the provinces in eastern Visayas and Bicol region to brace for inclement weather as tropical storm Feria makes a landfall and hit these areas in the coming days.

"Feria has intensified into a Tropical Storm and signal number 2 has been raised over Masbate, the nearby Ticao Island, Sorsogon and Albay," latest weather advisory issued by the state weather bureau stated.

As of 10 am Tuesday, the eye of Feria was spotted 100 kms East of Borongan, Samar packing winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 22 kph.

Feria continues to move closer to Eastern Visayas. It is seen to make a landfall over Eastern Samar this afternoon.

Signal number 2 is also hoisted over Samar Provinces, Leyte and Biliran Island.

The Pagasa reiterated its warnings to people living around the slopes of Mayon Volcano in Albay and of Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon - especially along the areas where possible lahar flows are located - to be alert due on possible landslides and flashfloods due to to heavy rains in the coming days, the Pagasa said.

In 2006, typhoon Reming incurred more than 1,000 fatalities due to lahar flow from Mount Mayon, part of the government's effort to mitigate disasters is to alert people of effects of imminent dangers caused by natural disasters.

Feria was spotted as an active low pressure area Monday afternoon. It moved rapidly and intensified into a tropical depression overnight.

Signal number 1 is raised over Camarines Provinces, Southern Quezon, Catanduanes, Burias Island, Romblon, Marinduque, Southern Leyte, Camotes Is., Cebu, Bohol Northern Negros, Capiz, Iloilo, Aklan, Dinagat Is. Siargao, Surigao del Norte and Camiguin.

Feria is expected to reach 100 kms Southeast of Tayabas, Quezon Wednesday morning; and about 200 kms Northwest of Iba, Zambales Thursday morning. (PNA)

Storm ‘Feria’ leaves 800 stranded in Visayas (http://www.gmanews.tv/story/165607/Storm-Feria-leaves-800-stranded-in-Visayas)

MANILA, Philippines - More or less 800 passengers were stranded in central Philippines as tropical cyclone "Feria" intensified into a storm Tuesday morning.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) head Prisco Nilo said "Feria" is expected to make landfall in Borongan in Samar Tuesday afternoon.

"Yung bagyo inaasahang mag-landfall sa Borongan ngayong hapon [The cyclone is expected to make landfall in Borongan this afternoon]," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Nilo said that as of 10 a.m., Feria was 100 km east of Borongan, Samar. He said the cyclone had winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

It was moving at 22 kph, and is due 100 km southeast of Tayabas in Quezon province Wednesday morning. By Thursday morning it is forecast to be 200 km northwest of Iba, Zambales.

By Friday morning it will be 480 km northwest of Laoag City.

As of Tuesday noon, seven areas have been placed under Storm Signal No. 2. They were Masbate, Ticao Island, Sorsgon, Albay, Samar, Leyte provinces, and Biliran.

Under Storm Signal No. 1 were Camarines provinces, southern Quezon, Catanduanes, Burias Island, Romblon, Marinduque; Southern Leyte, Camotes Island, Cebu, Bohol, Northern Negros, Capiz, Iloilo, Aklan; Dinagat Island, Siargao Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Camiguin Island.

"Residents living in low-lying areas, mountain sides and in coastal areas under Signals 1 and 2 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides," Pagasa said.

Stranded

Meanwhile, dzBB's Cebu affiliate reported more than 800 passengers were stranded in Central and Eastern Visayas. These included 507 passengers stranded in Cebu, 139 in Catbalogan, 98 in Ormoc, 33 in Maasin, Southern Leyte, and 27 in Tacloban in Leyte.

Coast Guard commandant Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo advised vessels in areas under storm signals 1 and 2 to observe the proper guidelines.

The Coast Guard is following a new policy barring travel of ships lighter than 1,000 tons in case of Storm Signal No. 1. All seacraft are barred from leaving port under Signal 2.

Meanwhile, Visayas-based Bombo Radyo reported classes in Eastern Visayas were suspended due to "Feria."

Coast Guard Commander Anelito Gabisan also cited reports indicating those stranded included 103 in Danao Port, 118 in Cebu and 68 in Hagnaya Port.

Meanwhile, elementary and high school classes in Eastern Visayas were canceled due to winds and rains from Feria. - GMANews.TV

^^ Yups, Sa Leyte galing...

Tourism industry in Southern Leyte shapes up despite need for aggressive marketing and promotions

By Erna Sy Gorne

Maasin City (June 24) -- Investments in support to tourism industry start shaping up in the province despite the need for the local government units to set up a more aggressive marketing and promotional campaigns, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Provincial Director Micheal Nuñez revealed.
Provincial Director Nuñez cited that construction of several facilities to support tourism industry surprisingly sprouted all over the province recently particularly along those areas where dive sites were identified.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) together with the non-government organization (NGO) German based, GTZed in close coordination with the local government units are drawing an investment code incentives to further encourage investments in the province.

He said the group expects more investment will continue to pour in the near future should an aggressive marketing and promotional campaigns be completely designed for each of the local government units.

He said tourism in Southern Leyte takes off due to newly discovered dive sites that draws thousands of foreigners throughout the world despite the global economic crunch.

Dive sites located in Limasawa, Padre Burgos, municipalities along the Sogod Bay Area and Napantao in San Francisco, the twin islands of San Pedro and San Pablo in Hinunangan and the whale sharks watching in Pintuyan, were among the tourists attractions that begins to call the attention of both local and domestic tourists, he said.

To mention a few, the newly completed construction of a beach resort in Kuting, Macrohon, the Padre Burgos Castle in Tangkaan, Padre Burgos and a hotel in Silago, all of Southern Leyte, were among the most recent investments, he added.

Nuñez added that more tourist destinations were awaiting to be tapped to include the no less than 2,000 - hectares natural forest in Silago, among others.

He is also optimistic of the economic growth to take place in once-the farthest town but due to the opening of Abuyog-Silago road network, Silago has become the nearest point to a commercial airport in Tacloban City throughout the province. (PIA Southern Leyte)

Gaisano, other investors keen on locating in Maasin City

By Bong Pedalino

Maasin City (June 24) -- All times, according to a Chinese proverb, are times of crisis.

Perhaps this was the reason why, in spite of widespread talk on financial crisis gripping economies global and national in scope, a number of commercial building construction is visible here, obviously upbeat despite claims of perennial bad times.

And the local government unit here is up for the challenge.

During the bi-weekly radio program yesterday dubbed "Maasin City in Action", City Mayor Maloney Samaco disclosed that aside from the Gaisano chain of superstores, other investors were equally excited to have their presence felt here.

At least two Mall-oriented business enterprises from Manila have expressed their intention to open shop in the city, Samaco said, naming one of them as City Square and another unidentified prospective locator.

In a brief chat at his office today, Samaco told PIA that even a local grocery owner from Sogod town informed him of her willingness to invest in the city.

The city LGU has been in the thick of preparation to build a dry goods market at the integrated terminal building, at the other side parallel with the newly opened wet market.

In fact, when President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo shall visit the city on July 2 (no longer July 1) she will lead in the groundbreaking ceremony for the soon-to-be-constructed dry market, a 36 X 36 square meter structure that will add glitter to the city's already expanding business landscape.

It has been an open secret that the new structure would house the Gaisano, but Mayor Samaco said negotiations are still ongoing, and as this developed other investors are also willing to take the place of Gaisano if they will not push through.

Samaco stressed the need for the city to have an advantage of the proposed business deal, in which the city will shoulder construction costs, and locators pay monthly rentals.

He said there's no need to rush this development undertaking, adding that the city can wait for the proper time -- until after the elections, if necessary -- to dispel notions of politicking. (PIA-Southern Leyte)

Naga council opposes local gov’t code change (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/regions/view/20090626-212599/Naga-council-opposes-local-govt-code-change)

NAGA CITY, Philippines -- The Naga City Council has passed a resolution strongly opposing a House bill seeking to amend the Local Government Code of 1991 (Republic Act 7160) to allow several municipalities to become cities by exempting them from income requirement.

In the resolution, passed on June 16, the council said it was joining the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) in opposing the bill which it said discriminates against other local government units in favor the 16 municipalities that recently lost in the case “LCP versus the Commission on Election.”

In the case, the 16 municipalities argued that they should be exempted from the minimum income requirement to be a city because their charters had been approved by Congress before the Supreme Court nullified their elevation to the category of city in November last year.

The Naga City Council said the proposed amendment would violate the “equal protection clause under the 1987 Constitution” and would be a retroactive implementation of a law, which is in violation of Section 450 of Republic Act 7160.

It also noted that the 16 municipalities must comply first with the requirements provided under Section 450 of Republic act 7160 which states that to become a city, a municipality should have an annual income of at least P100 million.

It said that when the decision of the Supreme Court in the LCP vs Comelec case became final, Naga City, for instance, was notified that it was going to receive an IRA adjustment amounting to P42 million.

The cities reverted back to being municipalities and call themselves the "League of 16", which include Baybay (Leyte province), Bogo, Naga and Carcar (Cebu), Catbalogan and Borongan (Samar), Tandag (Surigao del Sur), Lamitan (Basilan), Tayabas (Quezon), Tabuk (Kalinga), Bayugan (Agusan del Sur), Batac (Ilocos Norte), Guihulngan (Negros Oriental), Cabadbaran (Agusan del Norte), El Salvador (Misamis Oriental), and Mati (Davao Oriental).

BOTH SIDES HAVE THEIR OWN REASONS/ARGUMENTS. SO LET THE COURTS DECIDE. HOWEVER I MUST ALSO SAY SOMETHING . . .THE BIGGER AND MORE AFFLUENT CITIES SHOULD NOT BE GREEDY AND MUST LEARN TO SHARE THIER WEALTH TO THOSE CITIES-TO-BE/ASPIRING TOWNS WHO ARE IN NEED OF FUNDS IN THIER OPERATIONS.

One of Binay's platform is to give poorer municipalites the biggest share in IRA.

One of Binay's platform is to give poorer municipalites the biggest share in IRA.

Yeah..we know that he will not win.. and even Bayani Fernando... they are only popular in Metro Manila or can win in Makati and Marikina but not in the whole country... even though they want good for our country.. they can't win...

Same with me. He is not my type of politician. mayabang! The richest city in the country not because of Binay of course.

PAL Express (Q400 -76-seater), Cabu Pacific (ATR 72-500
72-seater), at Zest Air (MA60 -56 seater)..
Yun PAL Express, previously gumagamit daw ng Q300 - 50-seater.

Project Site

The site has two especially prominent features. Firstly, the site is located on the center portion of 5 kilometer white sand beach facing the Pacific Ocean with 450 meters (1476 feet) of ocean frontage.
Secondly, the site is approximately 15 minutes from the Guiuan Airport, which has an existing 2,134 meter (7,000 feet) of asphalt runway maintained by the Department of Transportation of the Philippine Federal Government. The approximate flying time to Guiuan utilizing a commercial passenger jet from Cebu-Mactan Airport would be about 20 minutes. And, the Cebu-Mactan Airport has numerous daily domestic and international arrivals. Therefore, the proposed development will be easily accessible to both domestic guests and those originating from international locations.

http://www.cirdc.com/images/calicoan%20resort%203d.jpg

Development

The proposed development consists of a total of 550 residential and hotel units. Specifically, the development will have:
288 Condo Hotel Units
150 Time Share Units
120 Condominiums
60 Poolside Suites
18 Private Residence (Fractional Ownership)
636 Units+(40 to 48 Poolside Cabanas)

In addition to the Residential and hotel units, Calicoan Island Resort includes:
• Casino
• Spa and Sports Complex
• Medical Facility for tourism related medical treatments
• Various Restaurants and Bars

http://www.cirdc.com/images/overview/overview_resort_site_pic.jpg

Development Schedule

The Calicoan Island Resort will be developed in two Phases. Phase 1 is to be developed on approximately 3 hectares of the total 11 hectares and will contain the casino, the spa, a restaurant and corresponding hospitality units. The hospitality units will be designed to provide hotel accommodations until the principal hotel is available (288 units), which is Phase 2 of the development. Once the principal hotel is opened, the initial Phase 1 hospitality units will be converted into the timeshare component. The entire development will take about 3 years to build, where Phase 1 will be constructed in about 2 years with a scheduled completion date of December 2009.

I have no idea kung nagstart na ang construction sa area. Pero sabi ni urban the last time he went to Calicoan wala pang malalaking infras na tinatayo dun :(

Really?

maasin doesnt deserved to have an airport and sogod has no vast plain land to build an airport.there is an airport in the nearby hilongos but to date no commercial or even private plane who used the airport.why not upgrade this airport to served the southern part of the island.i remember back in the 90s, Aerolift advertised to have service in the area but i dont think if it was possible since aerolift lasted shortly.i heard also that this airport is very short and can't handle commercial flights.
