calbayognon September 18th, 2010, 04:46 PM mall-type ba ung proposed gaisano sa calbayog or dept store and supermarket lang kagaya ng Gaisano Tacloban Main and Gaisano Ormoc??
Mall type yata kaya lang walang cinema. Siguro yung design and size will be made according to their market in Calbayog.
^^^^
Nice choice of artists:okay:
Mas maganda kung Pop-Jazz ang genre na ipapatogtog nila. Maganda yung ambiance kung iyan ang ipapatogtog jejejejeje...
mall-type ba ung proposed gaisano sa calbayog or dept store and supermarket lang kagaya ng Gaisano Tacloban Main and Gaisano Ormoc??
^^ sana.. pero i doubt the moviehouse.. sa new gaisano mall sa ormoc wala daw moviehouse. tsk tsk
^^^^
I think the Gaisano's that are operating here in the region is under Gaisano Capital management. If you are keen enough, malls or department store under Gaisano Capital management has no cinemas or moviehouses even their other outlets in Vis-Min area.
catar city September 19th, 2010, 10:56 AM Congrats Calbayog. . .
catar city September 19th, 2010, 11:10 AM 3 years ago the place looks like this
http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss11/catarcity/DSC_0207_JPG.jpg
Now the place looks like this. The gasoline station is now upgraded into a Super Station category. opposite this gasoline station is Tsiban Bar a popular hang-out during night time co-operated by a Taiwanese and a local partner ( Tsiban a taiwanese word for Bankerohan). It seems that progress is slowly changing the Catarman Landscape. However recent events seems to stall all this hard-earned progress. Just a week ago another policeman was killed right in front of this station. . .

calbayognon September 19th, 2010, 12:48 PM Good news for Calbayog. Before the end of the year the whole city (from PNB up to the city proper) will be a Wi-Fi zone courtesy of WestSamar Telecoms (PLDT). It started this month by activating the routers in Brgy. Obrero (where their main office is located) making the said barangay a Wi-Fi Zone starting last Monday. Just dont know the code.:)

^^Wow! ayus pala dyan sa Calbayog. free ba yan? hehe
calbayognon September 20th, 2010, 10:09 AM Good news for Catarman. Starting October 21, Airphilexpress will have a three (3x) times a week flight to Cebu. Every T-Th-Sat.
pthfndr19 September 20th, 2010, 11:15 AM ^^ Wow! This is a very good news... nakita ko rin yan sa website nila.. sa wakas.. natupad na rin ang minimithi ko... it will boost the tourism and business in our province.
Last year nag-daily yan nung PAL Express pa pati ang Cebu Pacific between Manila to Catarman/Calbayog e.
I will try next time the Cebu-Catarman via Airphil Express... maybe this December.:D
catar city September 20th, 2010, 06:08 PM Good News nga yan for Catarman.

malaking potential yung Samar, lalo na pag ma develop yun as a tourist spot,...
pero kelangan pang ayusin yung tourism industry ng Samar eh as well as the whole region...
All out war ata kelangan dyan eh... o di kaya if the president is smart enough then give them their satisfaction like help them get jobs specially in agriculture or bla bla bla but if they insist communism them they should face the AFP,...
Miss N September 22nd, 2010, 05:06 AM I agree, dapat magkaroon ng solution ang insurgency problem. I used to live in an area na sabi nila NPA-infested. Tumatakbo kami most of the time. Or magtatago sa "paksol" (fox hole).
I have a group of blogger friends who I was supposed to take around some spots in Northern Samar. Now they have decided na i-postpone muna. Natakot. Three of them saw the youtube video. Kung tutuloy pa sila dito, I don't know. But I feel sad. And it seems that all the efforts of the government and other individuals promoting the province will just go pffffffft kung may mga ganitong pangyayari.
Share ko lang isang experience ko during a conference many years back.Yung isang nakilala ko sa conference na yun, sabi sa akin upon learning I'm from Samar: "Samar ka? Di ba maraming NPA sa inyo?" Ouch. What a reputation.

If I heard the news right, dalawa ang pulis na pinatay on that day: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I can only wish na mali ang dinig ko sa news :(

^^ We need a strong Leader... kung kailangan blood to blood gamiting solusyon,... but we can have it the other way, satisfy them what they want but be sure to limit like rejecting their maoist ideology... mahirap lang sa mga NPA kasi they always take advantage of human rights,... kung maka patay yung AFP sa mga kasamahan nila,... magsasaka ka agad claim nila... parang theyll make a story na nagtatanim lang mga yun tsaka binaril ng mga sundalo... mahirap din namang tanggalin yung Writ of habeas corpus eh... hahaizzz... :ohno::ohno:
One side of the sandbar is facing the ocean and the other side faces the river. A possible river cruise is also being studied with the island inside the river being one of its features. A park along the river bank is being develop and a boulevard is being planned from the park going to the foot of the sandbar. An ocean cruise to Hirapsan Island near UEP White Beach, identified as a dive site is also part of the plan. With the forthcoming flight between Cebu and Catarman malaki sana ang potential ng Catarman as a tourist distination along with the island towns of Biri, San Antonio, Capul and San Vicente. Ang problema talaga ng Catarman is the peace and order situation.

calbayognon September 24th, 2010, 04:38 AM OMG, Cebpac will temporarily stop flying to Calbayog from November 1, 2010 to February 15, 2011. Tatlo pa naman ang tickets na nabili ko na during that period. Bakit kaya? Mataas naman load factor ng Calbayog. May problem kaya sa mga aircrafts nila. If i remember last July bumalik kami to Manila dahil may problem ang aircraft.:ohno:

RP gets $434-M poverty-reduction grant
REPRESENTATIVES of the Philippine and the US governments finally signed on Thursday in New York City the agreement for a five-year $434-million anti-poverty grant from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a statement of the US state firm said.
Finance Secretary Cesar V. Purisima and MCC Chief Executive Officer Daniel Yohannes signed the agreement on the grant, which will be used for investments in roads, community development projects, and improvements in Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III and US State Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton presided over the signing ceremony, held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.
"The Philippines compact is a results-focused program promoting sustainable economic growth. This example of country-designed solutions strives to move the poor from poverty to prosperity,” the statement quoted Mr. Yohannes as saying.
Bulk of the MCC grant will be used to fund three projects, namely:
* $214.4 million to build and repair 220 kilometers of Samar Road, which is expected to improve access to markets and services for farmers, fishermen and small businesses in 15 municipalities;
* $120 million to support the building of infrastructure like water systems, clinics, and schools in select poor communities under the Kalahi-CIDSS program; and
* $54.3 million to computerize and streamline processes in the BIR to help boost revenue collection and reduce occasions for corruption.

^^ yes, you're right! Catarman is the second busiest airport in Region 8...3rd is Calbayog and 4th is Ormoc. Ormoc is currently being served only by AirphilExpress with 5 times a week flight.. Maasin, Guiuan, Catbalogan and Borongan airports has no commercial flight.. only used for general aviation.

pthfndr19 October 2nd, 2010, 08:00 AM Guiuan airport to be operational soon
GUIUAN, Eastern Samar –The newly-rehabilitated and upgraded Guiuan Airport with an estimate cost of P115 million will be soon be operational.
This was disclosed by Mayor Annaliz Gonzales-Kwan in an interview for the update of Guiuan Airport which was rehabilitated during the presidency of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo under her Guiuan Airport Development Project in line with her super region concept of development where Region 8 is part of Central Philippines Super Region envisioned to be the tourism center of the country.
“The airport is already there and the facilities are already finished, but I am still waiting for the requirement that the airline company had asked for us to have a fire truck in the airport,” Mayor Kwan said.
“But I cannot give it to them because it is very expensive, that is why I talked with the people from the Department of Transportation and Communications if they can provide the said equipment to us and I think they will do so,” she added.
The said fire truck will cost about P5 to P10 million, according to Mayor Kwan.
“This is not an ordinary fire truck because it will not use water in controlling fire but a specialized chemical, that makes it costly,” she explains.
Based on the latest update from the town mayor, she said that the airline company that had agreed to begin its operation is Cebu Pacific and aiming to start their operation by December of this year.
In an interview with Eastern Samar Congressman Ben Evardone, he said that as of the moment he still doesn’t know if there is an airline company who wishes to operate in the said airport.
“It is them who are the best one to ask that question if they will operate soon in Guiuan airport,” Evardone said in interview.
During his term as governor of Eastern Samar, Borongan Airport was opened to commercial flight but its operation did not last long.
The concreting of Apron and Taxiway was completed in January 2008 while the Passenger Terminal Building in August 2008.
The construction of airport’s perimeter fence, access road, and asphalt overlay of runway was also completed.
Guiuan airport is one among historic airports in the country.
The said airport used to be a US Navy airbase during World War II liberation period and was constructed by the 93rd Seabees.
After the war, the facility was turned over to the Philippine government.
Originally, the airport have two runways but at present only one is operational.
Guiuan airport runway measures 2.8 kilometer longer than the runway of DZR airport, the busiest airport in the region located in Tacloban city.
Mayor Kwan said that once the airport becomes operational, it will be a big help for her town since they are embarking in the promotion of Guiuan as a major tourist destination in the region being one of the most historic places in the country.
Must see places in the said town are Homonhon and Tubabao Islands, the pilgrimage island barangay of Sulangan, US Naval Base and Calicoan Island dubbed to be the surfer’s paradise. (ROEL AMAZONA)

pthfndr19 October 3rd, 2010, 07:05 AM N. Samar gov asks additional police troops to his province
Government Center, Palo – Northern Samar Governor Paul Daza said that there is a need to increase the number of population of police force in his province after the ambush and killing of eight policemen by the New People’s Army.
In an interview, Gov. Daza revealed that recently the Regional Office of the Philippine National Police deployed additional police force for his province but the number of law enforcers deployed is not sufficient to their needs.
“They only deployed 20 law enforcers for my province as replacement for those who had been killed in the series of killings where law enforcers are most of the victims,” Daza said.
“They should have at least deployed 100 police personnel instead of just 20 to meet the need of our province, for us to have if not the ideal number of law enforcers to the population,” Daza added.
“I am hoping that aside from the recent deployment of police force they will soon provide additional police personnel,” he added.
In the first Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) meeting for the new set of officers where Gov. Daza was elected as the vice-chair while Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla of Leyte province was elected as the regional chair, he revealed that aside from the eight police personnel who were killed in an ambush there are two other separate incidents of killings where law enforcers are victims.
“This is quite alarming because most of the targets are police personnel,” Daza said.
“Prior to the ambush in Brgy. Imelda, there was a shooting incident which happened in my province where the victim was a law enforcer and just a week ago another shooting incident happened where another law enforcer was killed,” Daza revealed.
Meanwhile, Major General Mario Chan, commanding general of the 8th Infantry Division stationed in Camp Lukban, Barangay Maulong, Catbalogan, Samar when asked to react on reports that some of the killings in Samar Island is not just caused by rebel groups but also perpetuated by armed groups being managed by politicians.
He said that reports alleging that some killings in Samar are not perpetuated by red groups but also by members of armed groups manage by politicians had not reach his office.
“I am new to this post, and my intelligence officers had not briefed me yet regarding that,” Maj. Gen. Chan said.
“But if these are committed by armed groups this is purely police matters and it is their concern, we will only intervene once the law enforcers and the local government will ask our help,” he added. (ROEL AMAZONA)
pthfndr19 October 3rd, 2010, 07:06 AM 239 Army soldiers for deployment mostly in Samar Is. against NPAs
Rep. Mel Senen Sarmiento of the first district of Samar delivers his speech to participants of the 21st National Statistics Month celebration held at the Robinsons Mall. Lito A. Bagunas
CATBALOGAN, Samar- Over 200 soldiers are to be deployed to various parts of Eastern Visayas as the military officials in the region vowed to step up on their campaign against members of the New People’s Army.
The 239 soldiers, who just finished their four months training in jungle warfare, will be deployed mostly in Samar Island, Major General Mario Chan, commanding general of the 8th Infantry Division, said.
Chan said that the soldiers will be a big help on their campaign against the members of the rebel group, the New People’s Army.
“Expect a good result in a month’s time,” Chan said.
He said that with their relentless campaign, he expects more rebels to surrender and their lairs, mostly in the mountainous areas of Samar Island, will be recovered.
Early last week, the military discovered a camp of the rebels located in the boundaries of Silvino Lubos (Northern Samar)-Matuguinao (Samar) areas.
The recovered camp was the main lair of the national organizational committee of the rebels, Chan said.
Chan said that they would continue their relentless campaign against members of the NPA operating across the region, mostly in the Samar Island.
Last August, eight policemen based in Catarman, Northern Samar were killed while responding on a killing incident in Barangay Imelda.
The killing of the policemen was described to be the worst ever suffered by law enforcers inflicted by the rebels in years.
Chan, however, said that while they are pursuing their military campaign against the rebels, they still hope they would voluntarily surrender.
“Killing is not our happiness but how many lives can we turn around and become productive members of our society,” Chan said.
The national leadership of the Armed Forces of the Philippines has vowed to eradicate the country’s insurgency problem in three years time.
During the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, she set a June 30, 2010 deadline to end the insurgency.

Linguine October 7th, 2010, 06:12 AM Bangus breeding tanks to encourage backyard hatcheries
TACLOBAN CITY -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is pushing for milkfish (bangus) backyard hatcheries with the scheduled construction of land-based breeding tanks in Guiuan, Eastern Samar this year.
Backyard hatcheries will be operated by fisherfolk in Eastern Samar to meet the growing demand for milkfish fingerlings in mariculture parks in Eastern Visayas, said BFAR Regional Director Juan D. Albaladejo.
These backyard hatcheries are patterned after those in Bali, Indonesia, where major exporters of milkfish fry to the Philippines are located.
The bureau will spend about P1 million to build two land-based breeding tanks that offer controlled temperature the whole year round.
Each facility will house 1,000 milkfish breeders with each mother fish capable of producing about 50,000 eggs in one year.
BFAR has been planning to implement the backyard hatchery scheme but it was hampered by the unsteady supply of eggs.
Since the breeding area is located in sea cages, production is affected by the rough sea weather and changing water temperature.
"For 60 breeders, the production of eggs went down to 20 million this year from 30 million in 2009 because of climate change," he said.
Towns between Tacloban City in Leyte and Guiuan in Eastern Samar are the target locations for hatcheries because of their accessibility to the egg sources and market. Mr. Albaladejo said they will initially establish 10 hatcheries in the area.
The project is part of the bureau’s programs to increase milkfish production, sustain milkfish fry requirements and generate livelihood opportunities.
"If there’s a steady supply of eggs, we can now start backyard hatcheries. We will supply the eggs every month to raise these into fry for one to three months," Mr. Albaladejo said.
A technology demonstration project will likewise be set up in some areas to encourage more fisherfolk to get involved in milkfish fry production. -- Sarwell Q. Meniano

pthfndr19 October 10th, 2010, 08:47 AM Mining company in E. Samar to plant 3,000 seedlings as rehab
MANICANI ISLAND, Guiuan Eastern Samar – Nickel Asia Corporation Community Relations Officer, Ronald Asignacion, said that although their company is ready to start the mining operation that Hinatuan mining had left, he stressed that they will focus first on their social responsibility to the island residents, particularly in the rehabilitation process of its environment.
Among the activity that they will implement while waiting for the order from Department of Environment and Natural Resources Central Office and Resolution by the members of the Sangguniang Bayan of the Municipal Government of Guiuan allowing them to re-start the mining operation is the reforestation of the island covered by their operation.
“At present we have more than 3,000 seedling of indigenous tree to the island that is to be planted in areas we have identified,” Asignacion said in an interview.
Among the seedlings that are to be planted in the island is the local pine tree “agoho”, the mangrove talisay tree, fruit bearing trees like jackfruit and lanzones, among others.
“These seedlings are to be planted all over the island as part of our social responsibility to the people and our program on environmental protection,” Asignacion added.
Aside from reforestation of the island, Asignacion added that they will also plant trees at the watershed area of Manicani to secure the protection of the area from soil degradation and erosion.
Asignacion revealed that an area in the mine camp is also being planned to be converted into an eco-science park, where residents and students in the island can stay to conduct research study and recreation.
He added that they are experiencing a problem with regard to the watershed since some of forested parts are privately owned but this was immediately resolved in the Ulat sa Bayan when one of the owner of the land agreed to let them plant trees in the areas they owned along the watershed.
The owner then promised to help Asignacion to talk with the other land owners to settle their problem as it is beneficial for the whole residents in the island once the watershed is planted with more trees.
Moreover, Asignacion added that the previous operation of Hinatuan mining should solely be blamed in the destruction of the natural environment of the island for some of the reason why those problems occurs was created by some of its residents and people who are not conscious to environmental protection particularly fishermen who are into illegal fishing.
Asignacion cited using of “firewood” as one reason why trees in the island are slowly diminishing.
He added that the trees that they cut for the said purpose were not replaced by those who cut it that is why in some areas of the island it can be noticed that there are only few trees existing.
He then added that the presence of dynamite fishing had contributed to the turn down of fish catch in the waters surrounding the island.
“You can see in some parts of the coastal area of the island that there are traces of cracked coral reefs and these are caused by illegal fishing,” Asignacion said.
“And when we have dive in the waters of the island to conduct research and investigation in the condition of waters, we saw that some of the coral reef are already dead due to the dynamite fishing and cyanide fishing,” he added.
Nickel Asia Corporation is the mother company of Hinatuan Mining Corporation that operates in the island of Manicani. Aside from Hinatuan, it has five other mining companies operating in some part of the country like Rio Tuba in Palawan that can attest that their mining company is responsible especially in protecting the environment, Asignacion said. pthfndr19 October 11th, 2010, 07:53 AM 5J Flies Guiuan
Low cost carrier Cebu Pacific intends to fly to surfing hotspot Guiuan Airport in Eastern Samar by December says its local executive.
Mayor Annaliz Gonzales-Kwan said that the P115 million Guiuan Airport expansion and rehabilitation project is already completed and open to general aviation. But the requirements of the airline industry deferred its commercial opening due to absence of firetruck.
“The airport is ready. But we are still waiting for an airport firetruck to serve the requirements of airlines,” Mayor Kwan said.
Cebu Pacific intends to operate Cebu-Guiuan-Cebu flight on a thrice a week service.
“We already talked to CAAP and they said that the firetruck for the airport is already procured and they are just waiting for its delivery,” she added.
Guiuan airport is one of the longest airports in the country that boast a length of 2.8 kilometers having been used as a US Navy airbase during World War II and boast two parallel runways. The airstrip was constructed by the 93rd Seabees.

If you are familiar with the Calbayog Public Market Phase I and II that's their location. Parang may bridgeway to connect the two buildings. Di kasi pud mataas na building dahil sa quality of soil doon. Its 2-3 floors lang yata pero palapad lang ang design plus provisions for parking. Ayaw kasi muna ilabas ng City Planning and City Engineering Office yung design kasi sinubmit pa lang for approval. Pero they promised naman to share it once approved na.

catar city October 17th, 2010, 04:22 AM congratz calbayog...hinaot unta tanan na probinsya ha region magka Gaisano...:)
Your idea is not very remote. . .Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar and even Biliran have all great potential for bigger commercial establishments. In Northern Samar for example, it is not only in Catarman where Gaisano has shown interest. Two years ago, when I visited Allen Municipal Hall, some officials and employees told me that a representative of Gaisano visited their place and inquired/scouted for a possible site. I have'nt heard though of subsequent news about it. Gaisano may not have immediate plans yet of establishing their business in this two towns but at least they have identified this two places as a potential location for their business.
catar city October 17th, 2010, 04:45 AM One factor that the malls consider before establishing thier business in the provinces is the income which include the IRA that is being received from the National Government. Calbayog received an IRA of more or less P600m plus per year in past years, while Catarman received a mere P90M plus more or less per year during the same period.
catar city October 17th, 2010, 05:31 AM It may seem funny and unbelievable, There are talks that it is not only Gaisano which is scouting for location in Catarman. SM malls have also inquired the Singzon property in Dalakit area, several years ahead of Gaisano. Last week a friend of mine who is a member of the Araiza clan intimated that SM is interested on acquiring their family property located in the rice fields along the eastern diversion road. Funny indeed but who knows, SM and Gaisano's presence in Catarman might just come true in the future in spite of all the odds. Catarman's economic growth is unpredictable. In CY 2010 alone, there are scores of stores which opened shop here such as; SUREMED Lab, Mang Inasal, Chooks To Go, South Star Drugs, Grand Tours, Motor Trade, DES Marketing, OCCCI, UNO Business Center, Bodega Homes, Manatad Optical, Tsiban Bar, Sambo Bakeshop, Chikko Grill etc. While Security Bank and Rose Pharmacy will open shop before the year ends, so as the expansion of Airphils' Cebu-Catarman Route this month. I am not sure though if these are all signs of an economic upswing.

Solon sees world-class highways for Eastern Samar
By Alice Nicart
Botongan City (6 October) -- Congressman Ben P. Evardone perceives better if not the best roads are about to happen in Eastern Samar once widening and rehabilitation project are completed.
This was Evardone's insights which he shared to his constituents after the ocular inspection that was done along the highways by a team of American engineers and experts from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Central Office Manila which was led by Secretary Rogelio Singzon.
According to him Secretary Singzon told him that they are ready to spend if only to improve the province's roads.
Cong. Evardone referred to the huge budget which President Benigno Aquino III brought home from the United States' Millennium Challenge Corporation(MCC) amounting to some $214M which DPWH would be disbursing for the project construction in the province.
He reported that DPWH is set to prioritize the road portions where there are no serious problems i.e, road-right-of way, environmental issues.
"Just like the McArthur-Hernani portion where the stretches are quite wider and with lesser number of houses where constructions would be done, I think this portion will be done ahead of the rest", Cong. Evadone predicted. He also mentioned another example, that of brgy Libas coastal stretch leading towards San Julian town which is oftentimes washed out during bad weather is a candidate for transfer by using and passing through the back of the mountain.
"I really see a world-class, 20-meter wide highway, wide enough than ordinary highways and of good quality", he added.
Another good thing he said with the project is that it is conscientious in protecting the environment, the water sheds as well as the convenience and safety of the riding public.
As the project is likewise very much aware of the number of days to fully finish, Evardone said that the consultants are asking the suggestions of the 23 mayors, to submit the map of the areas where they would opt to have the widening and or rehabilitation of the roads would pass through in their area of responsibility.
Meanwhile, in an earlier interview, Evardone stressed that bidding of this kind of project which involves a huge sum of money and which is believed by many to be the final solution to the road problem in Eastern Samar will be straightly done at the DPWH, Central Office Manila and not at Regional level, Tacloban and local contractors are not qualified to participate. Eastern Samar roads get funds from US
By Michael Lim Ubac

MANILA, Philippines – From “no-class” to “world-class,” the infamous Eastern Samar roads will be repaired soon with funds from the $434-million (P19-billion) United States grant to the Philippines of the US-run Millennium Challenge Corp. (MCC).
After hearing the news that President Aquino witnessed the signing of the assistance compact in New York on Friday, Eastern Samar Representative Ben Evardone was ecstatic when he contacted the Inquirer on Saturday.
“Our dream to have a world-class highway will now be realized. Thanks to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Aquino,” said Evardone, former provincial governor. He said $214.4 million had been earmarked for the rehabilitation of 222 kilometers of his province’ main arterial roads.
The main artery is littered with potholes and craters. A priest of Arteche town described the roads as “at best, bad; at worst, impassable.”
“This will definitely spur development in our province, which has been long neglected by the national government. We will make sure that the funds will be used judiciously and with transparency,” said Evardone.
The improvement of the main artery would boost economic activities and improve the lives of the people, he said.
The road improvement project will pass by the scenic-but-typhoon battered towns of Eastern Samar along the Pacific coast.
Evardone said it would cover coastal municipalities of Eastern Samar, from the junction of Buray and Wright to Taft, Sulat, San Julian, Borongan, Maydolong, Balangkayan, Ilorente, Hernani, McArthur, Quinapondan, Salcedo, Mercedes and Guiuan towns.
The grant is intended to be used to build roads and carry out projects aimed at reducing poverty and fighting corruption, said Clinton.
Five-year grants are given by the US for countries that pass the MCC’s eligibility criteria.
For the past years, the country has failed the eligibility criteria because of corruption and the government’s failure to show improvements in poverty reduction, education and other millennium development goals.
“[The] investment will increase commerce in and between the provinces of Samar and Eastern Samar, and ultimately increase incomes,” the MCC said in a brief.
It would connect 15 towns in one of the country’s poorest provinces and reduce transportation costs for farmers, fishers and small businessmen who bring their goods to the markets, said MCC.
The roads in Eastern Samar could be the worst in the country, with national politicians purposively evading this campaign trail, preferring to fly to its capital, Borongan, or Catbalogan City in Samar, from Manila.
However, their staff, with the national media pack in tow, have to endure these roads once every three years.
The roads, in various state of disrepair, have been the butt of jokes among tourists and aid donors, and even residents themselves.
From allegedly qualifying for the Guinness World Records for the most pockmarked road, other jokes boast “off-road competitions” in Samar. Another joke calls Eastern Samar “home to the safest drivers in the country.” This is because drivers cannot drive fast but have to crawl through in their dilapidated highways.

Good news nga yan. .
catar city November 4th, 2010, 02:49 AM AIRPHILEXPRESS New Schedule.
Seems Catarman has a good market as they added new flight there. I have no idea why they don't add for Calbayog.
First, the plane is from Cebu --> Catarman -->Manila --> Catarman -->back to Cebu..:D

Oo nga ano. . . . . Its quiet amazing, N. Samar was dubbed as the poorest province in Region VIII but it has the second busiest airport in the Region next to Tacloban.
